There was good and bad here and a rating depends on what you are looking for. We were there for fishing and for that, this site is excellent. If on the other hand you prefer a “camping” feel, then this is not for you. The good: the showers and bathrooms were clean and there is laundry available. There are full hook ups. For fishing, this was perfect, we could roll out of bed at 5:30am and walk the one block to the harbor and on return the freeze and ship location is right across the street, next to a small coffee stand. It is a close walking distance to groceries and restaurants. The bad: The sites are close, our slides could open, but there is not really room to put chairs out and no way to have a fire or other classic camping experience. The staff was okay, but not particularly friendly or helpful, but not unfriendly either. There is no shade or trees, it is basically a parking lot with hook-ups. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Nice campground, but no trees or shrubs. We had a front row site with a beautiful view of the estuary and surrounding mountains. Easy walking distance to just about everything in Valdez. Office staff was very friendly. The internet service and cable TV both were excellent. The laundry room was clean and open 24 hours a day. There was a little bit of traffic noise, but not too bad during the night. Unlike previous reviewer's comment, they did not fee the eagle while we were there. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Park is near the harbor, easy walking distance to restaurants, stores and tours. The park is gravel with back-ins, we had plenty of room on both sides. We had a beautiful view out our front window. The park has a permit to feed the eagles which they do at 5:30 pm each day, pretty neat. The park allows you to wash your rig at your spot. Everything worked good, staff very helpful and nice. We enjoyed our stay, we really liked Valdez. The Stan Stephens Glacier/Wildlife cruise was wonderful. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This is a brand-new campground, opened Memorial Day 2009. Every campground has to start somewhere, and I think in a few years, this one may have all the kinks worked out and be a spectacular place. The location is great if you want to be far away from Valdez, as it is not within walking distance of anything. It is very close to fishing at Allison Point. It is a gravel parking lot, very few trees, no picnic tables, no fire rings. Lots of huge potholes, sites unlevel, electric service unreliable, and a stagnant pond on the grounds providing an enormous amount of insects. The sites are VERY poorly marked, and are quite narrow, not wide as the website indicates. You will be stacked on top of your neighbor. The bathrooms were rather unconventional, as they are unisex, but they were quite clean. It appears that cable service might be coming in the next few years. The staff were very nice, though, and I think this campground will get great reviews in the coming years when it gets established. I just don't think it was worth $39 a night as it stands right now. It is very weak in comparison to the campgrounds in town. We camped here in a Motorhome.

True to commercial campgrounds throughout Alaska, this was no more than a gravel parking lot with hookups. We were VERY close to the campers beside us. The location is GREAT: just beside the small boat harbor. Restrooms and showers were very very good. Internet was terrible. Signal was too weak and will be that way unless they put up an outside antennae. You cannot beat it for location and for price. We qualified for Military Discount and it was a nice percentage. Thank you! We camped here in a Motorhome.

Even though it's a gravel lot, without grass or trees, it is within walking distance to the waterfront, shopping and restaurants. Of the others here in Valdez, we feel this is the best one and are happy with our pull-in site. Sites are close together and very open. We stayed 3 days and would stay here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Just a big gravel parking lot, like all the parks in town, but everything worked, including the WiFi. It's a very friendly place, close to the harbor. This will be our choice in Valdez next time we come. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Absolutely beautiful views of glaciers and mountains surrounding an alpine lake. Excellent paved roads and campsites. I only saw a couple of sites that would accommodate a big rig, but it's a small park to start with. Strictly dry camping, but the beauty of the park and the isolation rate a "WOW". Alaska at its best. No trash receptacles in park, so plan on packing it out. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

What a surprise to find such a nice campground in such an isolated location in Thompson Pass at high elevation only a short distance from Valdez. I was afraid we might blow away during the night but the site was so beautiful near an alpine lake and the winds were never strong. The air was crisp in September. The sites had a table and fire pit and there were several from which to choose. The sites were private with berry bushes surrounding each site with a spectacular view. The road was paved and although right off of Richardson Hwy a mountain blocked the road noise and the night was very quiet and peaceful. I continue to be impressed with the AK state park sites, their abundance, and their maintenance. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This is a gem of a dry camping site in a spectacularly beautiful location, the Thompson Pass. When the sun comes up in the morning you are on the top of the world! This site is 25 miles north of Valdez and is a couple miles from the Worthington glacier. The campground is located next to a high alpine lake that offers grayling fishing. Three of the campsites have shelters over picnic tables. The campground has clean vault toilets. The hand pump had been removed from the well at the time of our visit. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Great location with a gas station, restaurant, pharmacy, liquor store and Safeway within a block of the park. Long sites both back in and pull-through with 50 amp service. Gravel which works well in rainy weather. They have cabins and tent sites. They can book fishing charters, helicopter rides and glacier tours out of the office. Office people are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Their internet was great until they changed the password and then it was slow and often kicked you off. I still rated this RV Park a 10 as they are working on this problem. We will definitely stay here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed here 4 years ago, and the WiFi didn't work. They're still "working on it." I never connected. We didn't stay in a "super site" since we didn't need 50 amp, but we were so close to our neighbor, whose furnace whined and ran all night, the big sites were looking good. Instead we moved to Bear Paw, saved $2 and had working internet. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

RV's be aware: bad electric, spotty internet; be careful. Boy, did we hit the jackpot with this one. The wife decided that being water front was worth not having full hookups. Sea Otter RV Park has only water and electric at the sites, with a dump station up front. I should have known this was going to be a bad experience by the fact that on the front door a sign reads: "Cash only, no refunds". They only have 20 amp service, but I figured we could get by, since you should never need air conditioning here. First off, we had a water front space, but they stupidly put the utilities right in front of the embankment. This means, if you want to pull in head first (in a motorhome, especially a big rig) you better bring a long power cord. Our's barely reached, and that was after I pulled as far forward as I could. At that placement, the embankment started to climb, thus my electric step wouldn't extend because it hit the ground. There's no shutoff for my step, so I had to unplug the power to the electric step motor (thankfully it was a simple snap type connector). So far just some inconveniences, but nothing I can't work with. We arrived at the park around 11am. After doing the aforementioned hookups, I was ready to do some internet. That worked fine until it started to rain; yes RAIN gave me spotty connection to their WiFi. Good for a minute, then disconnected, then so-so for a minute, then disconnected again. It also slowed down their WiFi to a crawl. I'm guessing they might be using some satellite based internet access, or they have crappy WiFi APs. Then the electric went out on me. Took out my 120 outlet tester and found that when wiggled, the tester shows "open ground." Not safe at all. I believe that's why my Surge Guard RV protector kept resetting. So now no electricity, great: no microwave, no convection oven, no TV, etc. (Yes, I realize I could have used the generator, but by then it was late and couldn't disturb the neighbors. I didn't want to put the load on my batteries via the inverter either. Remember this is a review of a "RV park" with services: I'm not boondocking but it sure feels like it.) If that wasn't enough, while cooking via the propane cooktop, the water went out: to the entire park. There was a water leak they were fixing, ETA would be fixed in 10 minutes; try more like 45 - 60 minutes, but who's counting? (It's not like I left a deposit in the toilet that I can't flush now.) So to sum it up: if you'd like to boondock on the water for $30, then stay here. Otherwise if you want reliable utilities, look elsewhere. The location may be great but they need to really upgrade the utilities at this place: I'd feel afraid to plug in again. Ratings at 10 high, to 1 low: Location gets a 10. Service rates a 2. Cleanliness, I can't comment, didn't use facilities. Value rates a 2. We camped here in a Motorhome.

We stayed at Sea Otter RV Park for three nights. I can honestly say that they had the rudest campground staff I have ever encountered. We arrived late (around 11:00 p.m.) so the office was closed. My husband paid in the morning for three nights. We were staying in a tent and it still cost $30 per night since we were in a "waterfront" site. The only reason we stayed was because it was raining and we had already set up camp the night before. My sixteen year old son walked over to the office with my nine year old to get a cup of coffee. The woman in the office told him that he couldn't get coffee, it was for adults only. The bathroom floors and showers were filthy. There was mildew growing in the corners where the linoleum was rotting off the floor. The showers were made of painted concrete and the paint was peeling off. By the time I was done with my shower I was standing in two inches of water. Even with flip-flops on it was disgusting. To top it off, when we were taking down our camp on our third morning the lady who worked there came around and asked if we were staying another night. I told her "no, we're taking down our camp" (it was obvious). She replied "Well, check out is 11:30, if you aren't out of here by 12:00 it will cost you another $15. Do you want to pay it now? (it was 11:15). I told her no, that she could talk to my husband who was down cleaning fish. She went and told him the same thing and that if we were there any later than 12:30 it would cost another $30! My brother-in-law ended up paying her $30 even though we were only there for another half hour. It wasn't as if they had lines of people waiting for a spot, there were lots of empty spaces. Needless to say, I will never stay there again and I highly caution anyone else to either. There are several other RV Parks in Valdez that look more spacious and well taken care of. It would be hard to find a more unproffesional, unfriendly campground host either. If you want to stay on the ocean and don't care about the rest, then here's your place. Also be aware, this campground is by the port where the boats go in and out: they start very early and they don't stop. We camped here in a Tent.

We have used this park multiple times. It is secluded and excludes a fire pit and picnic table with each site. There are approximately 20 sites with electric. The showers are cleaned frequently, but can get messy at high use times. There is no water at any of the sites, but is available near the dump site and showers. There is a dump fee of 5 dollars if not staying in camp. There is a host on site. We have rented one of the rental trailers there which was not the most clean, but the campground is very nice. There is an eagle's nest on site, so watch small dogs. Additionally, there are bear around so don't send the kids off to play in the woods unattended. It is about a 5-10 minute drive to town, but it is a very pleasant place to have a fire and sit with friends and family. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Wonderful place. Gem in the rough. Stayed three nights. Took cruise. Have a toy schnauzer and met one of the wonderful campground hosts who took her out for such a minimal charge. We felt so safe and the host loved our pup so much and checked on her so often. We would return in a minute. Prior military, so price was just right. This park is now open to the public! (Public rate is double the military rate.) New section with wide, level gravel sites and electric hookups (20/30/50A), with trees between each site. Water pump near entrance. Dump available. Each site has a picnic table and fire pit. (The older part of the park needs a lot of upgrades.) Park was quiet. Brochure rates are higher than the rates posted on the fee payment post. We were there early in the season, so may have been charged a lower seasonal rate. The park is about 5 miles from town. We would recommend this park and would stay here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
