The staff was not very friendly and short with people if questions are being asked. They advertise WiFi but the signal is very poor and you get timed out all the time. The sites were narrow and felt as if they are stacked right on top of one another. Every time we dealt with office staff they were impersonal to us but yet if an "old-timer" came in they went out of way to help and ignored us. The only time they would help us was if wanted to spend money on an item i.e. ice. The one thing that was good was location was excellent. So if you are willing to put up with unfriendly people for convenience this would be your spot to stay. If the office staff would act as if they enjoyed life and treated you decent then please stay here. Also if planning on using internet at all stick with your iphone or blackberry as WiFi is useless (don't expect what they advertise). We camped here in a Truck Camper.
Sites are very close together. Bathrooms are clean. People are friendly. It is also close to town. I would stay here again. We camped here in a Truck Camper.
We stayed there four nights. The RV sites are like most places in Alaska--a gravel parking lot. The sites are tight and you can look out your window and see what your neighbor is having for breakfast. The WiFi is up and down like a yo-yo but when it is running it is fairly fast. The staff were friendly and helpful. There is ample room for maneuvering in the park. The park is close to the businesses and wharf, one can easily walk to them and the supermarket. We would stay there again because I believe it is one of the best there based on seeing the other ones. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We stayed here five nights. The sites here are level but very close together with not a lot of eye appeal. The staff was friendly and made glacier cruise reservations for us; a cruise shuttle picked us up at the campground office. A plus is that we could walk to "downtown" from the campground. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Sites are not wide or long. We had to park our car across the campground road in the boat storage area. The online website states Wi-Fi however we could not get connected. On the plus side it is a short walk to town and the surrounding mountains are beautiful. We camped here in a Motorhome.
The rate of $29 is for up to 3 people. For my family of four we had to pay an extra $3 per night for one of our kids. The restrooms and showers are very nice but there are only two. They have cable hook-up. Hosts are friendly. Sites are a little close together but we would stay here again over the other places in town. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This is our second time here. This year the monthly rate for our 50amp/full hook-up site is $640.00. $ 21.00 a night ! What a deal! The views are fantastic. Every night in June (until the salmon run) they feed the eagles right here in the park. Fabulous pictures and terrific people. If you come to Valdez there's no better park in town ! We camped here in a Motorhome.
WOW!! We came for a week - we're staying a month. Fabulous scenery and all of the people, including other RVers are exceptionally nice. This park is our hands-down favorite of all the parks we've stayed at in Alaska. Everything in town is within walking distance. Including the small boat harbor. A short drive away is Allison Point - the pink salmon were here during our stay - simply amazing to see! If you're in Valdez, don't miss it or this RV Park! We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is a brand-new campground, opened Memorial Day 2009. Every campground has to start somewhere, and I think in a few years, this one may have all the kinks worked out and be a spectacular place. The location is great if you want to be far away from Valdez, as it is not within walking distance of anything. It is very close to fishing at Allison Point. It is a gravel parking lot, very few trees, no picnic tables, no fire rings. Lots of huge potholes, sites unlevel, electric service unreliable, and a stagnant pond on the grounds providing an enormous amount of insects. The sites are VERY poorly marked, and are quite narrow, not wide as the website indicates. You will be stacked on top of your neighbor. The bathrooms were rather unconventional, as they are unisex, but they were quite clean. It appears that cable service might be coming in the next few years. The staff were very nice, though, and I think this campground will get great reviews in the coming years when it gets established. I just don't think it was worth $39 a night as it stands right now... It is very weak in comparison to the campgrounds in town. We camped here in a Motorhome.
In all fairness, Bear Paw looked like the other campgrounds in Valdez; more like a used RV lot than a campground. Pretty ugly. Very unfortunate since Valdez is such a lovely town. The hosts were very nice, the restroom/showers were clean and the sites were level, but these things can't compensate for the ugly parking lot appearance. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is a parking lot with close sites. The 30 amp electric was very poor for our 40' motorhome. The restrooms were reasonably clean but saw people come in off the street to use them. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Gravel parking lot, not much space between sites. Cable was only working in half the park. Short walk across the street to Stan Stephens cruise. Showers clean and free, however they close for cleaning between 10 am and noon. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Large parking lot in downtown area with relatively narrow gravel sites. Fishing village ambiance, and right in the middle of everything, directly across street from small boat harbor. Good wifi and great cable tv selection. Surrounded by mountains. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Great place. Across the street from Small Boat Harbor. Mountains all around. Eagles soared all around us. This was our 2nd visit and well worth the drive. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Sites are tight, but everyone is friendly, lots of RV's that have been coming for years, canning and smoking salmon. Great place to stay if staying long term in Valdez.. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This campground is right on the water. The only problem was the salmon were running and there were dead fish all over the place. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Pretty nice campground for Alaska. Enjoyed 50amp service, good water pressure, level site, cable TV and great views. Did see an Eagle!!! We are in the "caravan" section: sites a little narrow but long enough for the 40' motor home with mid-sized pickup behind and room to spare. Only complaint: wireless did not work at all. Called office last night and they said they would "reboot". Later learned it was totally down and would be until someone comes from Anchorage. A park this big, advertising free wireless, should have arrangements to keep it working. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This park has been reconfigured since our last visit in 2006 - appears most sites are now pull-through. Rate reflects a "super site" - wide enough for slides and awning - barely long enough to park tow vehicle behind coach. Site was level. Wi-Fi worked well. Park was fairly quiet, considering the number of fishermen/boats, etc. that were there. Used the laundry in the Tesoro located in the same complex with the RV park - it was clean and all washers/dryers worked well. Only disappointment was no eagles spotted during the week we were there - in 2006 they were everywhere. We would definitely stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We loved this park. We were in a "super" site and it really was nice. The internet didn't reach our site, but we were so busy it didn't really matter. The sites were level gravel, but the roads coming in and out were pitted and bumpy. The park is located right in the middle of everything. There is a small eatery right on site, and within easy walking distance is a large grocery store and the downtown area. We camped here in a Motorhome.
The campground has level sites, is clean and services worked and while a "typical" gravel lot type park, the spacing is better than similar parks elsewhere. As mentioned you are allowed to wash you vehicle(s) at site. It is surrounded by great views in all directions. We would camp here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
A very nice park with beautiful views of the mountains, and an easy walk to the grocery store, harbor or downtown. No trees or landscaping except lots of potted flowers at the office-this is your typical big gravel lot. The entrance is a little tight but once inside the park, the gravel roads are wide and in good condition, sites level and plenty of room to maneuver our big fifth wheel. Also, enough room between the gravel sites so you don't feel crowded. We had a pull-through site with full hookups, excellent wifi, and cable tv with about 40 channels that came in nice and clear. Our site was very long with more than enough room to park the truck in front of the camper. Big, clean laundry room, and you could wash your rig on site for no extra cost. Price is a little steep and reflects a discount, but we would absolutely stay here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
As stated before this is a large gravel and treeless park but it does have some positive things going for it. You can wash your RV and vehicles at your site, they have freezer space you can rent for your fish, and there are full hookups. We had a super site which was wide enough for slide outs and awnings and was more than long enough for our 33 foot 5th wheel and truck. The sites are easy in and out for even the largest RVs. The cable and Wi-Fi (at your site) both worked well. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Solid park with 50 amp hook ups. Typical Alaska gravel only campground that also has a bunch of 'camping cabins'. We camped here in a 45' rig and had plenty of room. Main turn in to campground is very tight. Swing as wide as possible.. We camped here in a Motorhome.
I will stay here again. The reasons are simple. The staff and owner were friendly, helpful, and well organized. They made the park a 10. The park was clean, well laid out, and the sites were large enough to allow you to feel comfortable. The WiFi was good, and the TV was great. The views surrounding the park were awesome. The park was dog friendly with lots of places to walk your dog. You could wash your vehicles/RV at your site which is a much needed privilege after driving the Alcan Highway. I would recommend this park to all my RV friends. They provided 3 scrumptious Salmon fish feeds in the 10 days we were there. All you could eat and then some more. UMMMM UMMMM UMMMM. We camped here in a Motorhome.
The place to stay in Valdez. Wonderful view, wide open layout, easy in and out. One of the best parks on our Alaskan trip so far. Would stay here again. People very friendly. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Not sure of rate, we are part of a caravan. This is one of the best parks we have stayed in so far. The first with 50 amps, water, sewer, wi-fi and cable too. It is also the first one that allows rig washing on site. We washed the car only as we are heading back down through more construction when we leave. We have been walking to pretty much everything and have not needed our toad yet. We will use it to go back up to the waterfalls and the old Valdez location, and to see the pipeline terminal. We camped here in a Motorhome.
The overall experience camping here has been great. The staff are welcoming and very helpful. The park has great location clean modern facilities. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Nice park. You can walk to everything in town. Wi-Fi was very good, and 50 amp power was very nice. They have 2 shower rooms and laundries; one in office and one in the adjacent gas station. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Good place overall to stay while in Valdez. The best part was the very fast internet which is lacking in most of Alaska & the Highway. It is an easy walk to the dock or town and right next to a great grocery store. The reason it goes down to a 7 is the fact that it was a little too expensive and no character in the campground. However, the high mountains in the back are pretty cool. Sites are easy to park; long, & wide for all rigs. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This is a very friendly and well-managed campground. The setting is magnificent. Sites are roomy and easy to get in and out of. Our only complaint was that the WiFi was very inconsistent. Valdez is a great place to visit. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Except for the fact that this is another large gravel parking lot, the people running this place were the friendliest of any RV park we encountered on our month long trip. What facilities we used were clean. We traveled with our kids and at least they had a large grassy area for them to run around on. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Large park with easy access. A plus is the Service Station on the property with diesel and propane, and enough room to fuel without disconnecting the towed vehicle, also, a full grocery store within one block of the campground. Friendly, helpful staff. We will be back. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Great park for Alaska, staff is the best in AK, you can wash your rig at your site for free, this is huge in Ak. Park is close to everything. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Nice park, clean and well kept. It's all gravel, but that's not unusual up in Alaska. They also have a fish cleaning station that is top notch. Walking distance to everything in town. Excellent staff, almost all seasonal people. The wifi was a bit problematic, until I fixed their configuration. Would I go back? Absolutely! We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
The park has a great location near gas station, grocery store, within walking distance of downtown - but then almost all parks are in Valdez. It is noisy near the roads and near the gas station. The sites are level, full hookups, including 50 amp, but not overly large. There is no landscaping. It looks as good or better than others in town - all appear similar. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We stayed at Sea Otter RV Park for three nights. I can honestly say that they had the rudest campground staff I have ever encountered. We arrived late (around 11:00 p.m.) so the office was closed. My husband paid in the morning for three nights. We were staying in a tent and it still cost $30 per night since we were in a "waterfront" site. The only reason we stayed was because it was raining and we had already set up camp the night before. My sixteen year old son walked over to the office with my nine year old to get a cup of coffee. The woman in the office told him that he couldn't get coffee, it was for adults only.
The bathroom floors and showers were filthy. There was mildew growing in the corners where the linoleum was rotting off the floor. The showers were made of painted concrete and the paint was peeling off. By the time I was done with my shower I was standing in two inches of water. Even with flip-flops on it was disgusting. To top it off, when we were taking down our camp on our third morning the lady who worked there came around and asked if we were staying another night. I told her "no, we're taking down our camp" (it was obvious). She replied "Well, check out is 11:30, if you aren't out of here by 12:00 it will cost you another $15. Do you want to pay it now? (it was 11:15). I told her no, that she could talk to my husband who was down cleaning fish. She went and told him the same thing and that if we were there any later than 12:30 it would cost another $30! My brother-in-law ended up paying her $30 even though we were only there for another half hour. It wasn't as if they had lines of people waiting for a spot, there were lots of empty spaces. Needless to say, I will never stay there again and I highly caution anyone else to either. There are several other RV Parks in Valdez that look more spacious and well taken care of. It would be hard to find a more unproffesional, unfriendly campground host either. If you want to stay on the ocean and don't care about the rest, then here's your place. Also be aware, this campground is by the port where the boats go in and out: they start very early and they don't stop. We camped here in a Tent.
We stayed here at the Sea Otter this past weekend. What a waste of money. We did have a nice site on the water, but that was the only nice thing about this place! Bathrooms were so disgusting!! Washers and dryers, again were so disgusting!! Dirty Dirty Dirty!! The woman at the front desk is so rude. Not friendly what so ever. We were in the office asking a question and while we were still talking to her, someone walked in the back door and she says to them with out even looking up: Can I Help You?? They don't take credit cards. The book we have said make reservations, we called to make reservations and they told us they don't take reservations. No type of discount either (Good Sams, Military, etc.) They only have water and electric hook-ups. You have to dump up front. The electric really sucks: we tried to run our microwave and it ran on a really low power. So if you have a big rig, I would be afraid to try it. There was no Wi-Fi what so ever! We asked the rude woman at the front desk: she wrote a phone number down and said "Use this" as the pass word, it never worked. This was our first time saying here and I am sure our last. There are plenty of other places to stay in Valdez. We camped here in a Truck Camper.
This campground is in need of a lot of work. Its just a big gravel lot with no shade. The 20 amp electric kept tripping. The only thing good was the waterfront sites. We backed right up to Prince Williams Sound. They is no place to walk a dog, other them in the gravel lot. The person saying there is a dog walk here is reviewing the wrong park. The laundry and shower areas were very dirty and needed a lot of work. The paint was peeling and it smelled bad. We would not stay here again. They do not take credit cards. They offer no discounts at all. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
The staff and owners were extremely friendly, organized, and helpful. They made the park a 10 in my book. The spaces were wide, there was very little shade. The views surrounding the park were awesome. The park was very dog friendly with expansive areas to walk your dog. The salmon fish feeds were to write home about. We enjoyed 3 feeds in our 10 day stay. The cable TV was great and the WiFi was better then most. I would stay here again, and I would recommend this park to all my RV friends. Being able to wash your rigs was a real winner especially after driving the Alcan Hwy. We camped here in a Motorhome.
The location (on Prince William Sound, directly across from the Oil Pipeline Terminus) is the biggest selling point for this campground. It is big-rig friendly, but the electric service is terrible. Listed as 20 amp service, our surge protector kept tripping off, not from high voltage, but from low (101-103 volts). We couldn't run a hair drier and microwave at the same time. Despite this disadvantage, we modified our daily activities to enjoy viewing the fishing boats, sea otters and the rest of the harbor. There is a dump station on site. The staff was friendly and helpful. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Gravel parking lot, no shade. (But that's what we expected). We were only about 30' from the sea otters at play out our rear window and great views all around. Strong, free wi-fi at our site. A few of the waterfront sites have 20 amp, so look before you park. We would definitely return. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We found that most of the RV parks in Valdez are of the gravel parking lot variety, but chose the Sea Otter RV Park because it is away from the highway and therefore not so noisy, and because of the incredible view from our ocean front site. The park is about 24 years old, but is somewhat "down at the heels", but clean and well maintained. Make sure you watch out for the hole in the floor in the laundry area! A nice perk is the free popcorn! There are beautiful potted flowers around the office to dress things up a bit. This park also had shuttle service provided by some of the local tour operators. What The Sea Otter lacked in modern amenities was more than made up for by it's location in our opinion. We would definitely stay there again just to watch the sea otters playing in the water right outside our motorhome windows. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Big gravel parking lot, but stunning scenery of Prince William Sound if you have a waterfront site or no one in front of you. Owner keeps pet wild bunnies and they are everywhere, although you must not in any way harrass them. Facility is old, worn and rustic but met our needs and we couldn't get over the view. Oil pipeline terminus is directly across the sound. Would definitely go back. We camped here in a camper.
