We stayed in Old Baldy. There are several campgrounds one beside the other; check in all at the same entrance office. Very nice location. Staying in a somewhat mountainous area after days of traveling through the prairies is a relief. Our rate was for a pull through water and electric site including taxes. The site was spacious, very level and had good hookups. Unfortunately it was raining all night so we didn't hike on one of the nice looking trails. We would have stayed longer but next morning it was still raining and all the trails were muddy and uninviting. However, this is a very nice place to stay and hike or enjoy the lake. There is no Wi-Fi in the parks and we couldn't steal a signal from a nearby lodge either (rangers tip). When in the area we would stay again and take the 35 km detour from the Trans Canada Highway, it's worth it. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Cypress Hills is in southern Alberta about 60 km south east of Medicine Hat, Alberta. The town of Elkwater is adjacent to Elkwater Lake just off Highway 41 which continues south to the USA. We stayed at the Beaver Creek campground but there are others including Old Baldy and Lakeview which are part of the Alberta segment of the Cypress Hills. This Provincial Park has many services including a grocery store, visitors center, a pavilion, boatdock etc. The Cypress Hills area is very popular with western Canadians. The employees are very client focused and provide survey forms at your campsite. They are keen to do a good job. They are very friendly. The bathrooms are very clean and modern. We were fortunate to see fireworks across Elkwater Lake at dusk which were very impressive, as part of 'Park day festivities'. The Beaver Creek campground has small paved sites which was quiet after 11 pm. There is a small beach area which was busy. Dogs are not permitted on the sandy beach of Elkwater Lake. The place was sold out and many people reserve sites on line. We highly recommend this campground, provincial park and region of Canada. We camped here in a Motorhome.
