Our impression of this campground was that they do not do any maintenance. The laundry room was filthy (floors, washers, counter) and the lock on the door is missing altogether, so they close the door with a large rock on the floor. The campsites are uneven. They have a restaurant with entertainment (college students), but their prices are high. The trains and highway close by make it a noisy place to stay. In addition, tractor trailer trucks park overnight next door and run their loud generators all night. We will not return to Black Bart's and do not recommend it. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We stayed four nights. The sites were semi-level. The interior roads were very bumpy with potholes. The campground and restaurant share the bathroom/shower. The restaurant has tour busses which use the bathroom, leaving it crowded and dirty. It was not cleaned the entire time we were there, as proved by the debris in the same places each day. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
We stopped here so we could have dinner at the restaurant; good steak and entertainment. But the RV park was awful. Very hard to get level on any of the sites. The laundry was filthy. Lots of permanent residents, and not much maintenance being done. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Sites are fairly level, close to freeway and town access a plus, restaurant available for dinners only also a plus, people working office are very friendly and helpful. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is a dated camp, but it was fine for a short trip to Sedona, not long term. There were no pet places, the showers were so small it was easier to shower in the rv, and everything looked old and in dire need of remodeling. I was afraid to wash in the laundry room. The steakhouse seemed to be busy, but too expensive for me, the meals averaged about 25.00. They had a great sing-a- long though, so it might have been worth it. I probably wouldn't stay there again, but it was close to car rentals. NO WiFi at all, definitely a problem. We camped here in a Motorhome.
A very rundown park. It needs a lot of repair and upkeep. No one really knows what is going on in the park or cares. It is all about location. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We just stayed overnite here and would not want to stay any longer. It is next door to a truck repair and overnite stay area for truckers. Also lots of train noise. Resturant was very pricy for what we ordered. Sewer sites are dangerous for the sites as they are left with a steel rod coming out of it (they must of been old ones) which they didnt take it out of ground for newer ones. We had to place a chair over it as not to fall over it coming out of our door. Lots of rubish all over the place even one rv with no tires on it. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Level sites, clean and well laid out park with great resturant! Very friendly and helpful staff. Looking forward to returning again! We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
We spent a night here on our way to the Verde Valley. It is an older, rustic park with lots of mature pine trees. It's like camping in the woods, but in the city. The temporary guests are separated from the full-time residents. The sewer hookup is curbed with bright yellow paint, and has a brightly painted yellow steel rod with which to remove the sewer cap (so you don't have to pick it up with your hands). It is nearly impossible to imagine how someone could not see this, or trip over it. We didn't get to take advantage of the amenities due to our short stay. The truck stop diner across the street is walkable, and despite appearances, has the best truck stop food ever. We camped here in a Motorhome.
My Husband and I stayed here on our way to New Mexico for Thanksgiving. It was a quaint RV park, which had a lovely little restaurant and a wonderful view of the snow capped mountains. We will stay here again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Nice park but i was next to some noisy neighbors and a barking dog. I have no pets but I do not mind them as long as they don't bark all night! We camped here in a Motorhome.
Easy access from Hwy. 40 thru town. Sites are dirt, numerous sites under trees. Paved driveways. Sites are fairly level. A reasonably decent park for an overnight stay. Great restaurant on the premises known as Black Barts Steakhouse which uses local university students for doing waiter/waitress chores. The waiters and waitress employees also sing solos and group numbers while also serving your meal. Prices at the restaurant are average, food was quite good. Good idea to have a reservation as the place can fill up early, especially on weekends. The east side of the park has a number of what appears to be permanent residents in older RV's. Park was fairly quiet except if you slept with your windows open you could hear a train across the freeway. We have stopped here for one night stays each year for the past 4 years and have had no problems and have not heard of any problems. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
The worst dump I have seen in 21 years of full time camping. Honest. We called in advance to verify availability but no one ever answers the phone. We went anyway. No one in the office so we sat for 10 min. and she came walking up complaining about having to call the police again because of campers fighting. We all go inside and she tells us she only has 50A hookups and charges $25 to purchase a 30A adapter. So before we even answered her the phone rang and she is gabbing with her boyfriend about a date. In the mean time customers are piling up inside the office. I just looked at my wife and waved her to come on. We left without a word spoken. Outside an older couple leaving said they would not give them $25 for a 30A adapter if it was the last one on earth. So we drive out to the end of the driveway and start looking at our Woodalls book. About 3 minutes later this office woman comes screaming to get the **** out of here. I guess this is Black Bart hospitality. I would not go there again if it was the last camp in the world. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Terrible park, we were actually afraid to stay here. Many fulltimers. The Black Bart restaurant was quite cute and fun, so if you get stuck staying here, at least go to the restaurant. Local college students perform while serving We camped here in a Motorhome.
Ok for one night stay. Diesel smell from large truck stop at Little America required us to close our windows and use air conditioning rather than breath fresh mountain air. We were in a pull in site that was suppose to hold 2 rigs but they would need to be two short rigs. Associated restaurant very expensive. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Positives: wide sites, mostly level, some shade trees, 50 amp service, restaurant on-site, easy access from I-40 Negatives: some sites are near the permanent residents' area which is an eye sore, never saw personnel checking on campground, dog poop on sites, near railroad tracks, no wi-fi or cable Other: water pressure is 100psi so be sure you have a pressure regulator, discount available for senior citizens. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We should have read the reviews before staying at this park. We were tired and it was conveniently located. We were parked across the street from the back row of dilapidated RVs with permanent residents. Everything about this park is in need of a lot of maintenance and cleaning up. It is not a good place to spend the night. We would not go back. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Where to begin. Police cars called for domestic problem. Rottweilers running loose and pooping on our site. Dogs tied outside barking as you walk by the scary guy next door. Ok, actually everywhere on the back row. The upper part of the park upfront hides the back part of the park. In the back, all manner of ratty, old, falling apart trailers with debris around them, including trucks on blocks. Office very friendly. That's a plus. No we won't return here again unless someone else reviews it and says it's under tighter management. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Boy have we seen the rotwilers!! And the run down trailers. It used to be a very nice park. If you have to stay there get a site up front call ahead and make reservations. We camped here in a Motorhome.
In response to reviews of the park, we were reluctant to stay here, but this was one of the only RV park open in late December 2004. There is 20 and 50 amp service only; office loaned us adaptor for 30 amp service. We have NEVER had to do this before.
Railroad is about 1/2 mile to the north and busy; runs east west thru town parallel to Route 66. I am sure that it is noisy in the entire town. If railroad bothers you pick another town to stay in. We don't use bathroom or laundry so did not go in them. There are several older permanent rigs with lots of "extras" around them - this doesn't bother us. We did eat at Black Bart's Restaurant - We enjoyed a lot. The wait staff provides the entertainment without ignoring dinner service. The restaurant web site prices are wrong - dinners were about $18 to $26. The grounds are VERY dirty with trash - the park is in need of cleaning and maintenance everywhere. It does not look like much maintenance has been done since the Clinton Presidency. NO cable tv and poor antenna reception. GPS coordinates N 35 11.535, W 111 37.073. Ok place to stop for a few days very moderately priced park @ $20/night (over 55 yr rate) We camped here in a Motorhome.

This was a nice friendly park, close to the city and attractions. Our only concern was that some of the "campers" looked a little disreputable. While in the laundromat, some strange looking characters asked a lot of questions of us. We did keep our campers locked when we weren't actually at the site. We only stayed a couple of days. We probably would go back again though. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Large parking lot with hookups. Bathrooms are unkept, shower area has standing water most of the time. Large number of permanant residents with some trailers looking like they're returning to the earth. No real facilities, as the RV park appears to be an afterthought of the on-site steakhouse. While we were there our cat was taken, I was assaulted by a permenant resident in plain view of one of the park maintenance men (about which the management did nothing), and the train noise kept us up all night...and I do mean ALL night. Worst park I've been to: I'll never return. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Several permanent sites. Very little shade. level, grass (dust) sites. Okay for overnite - easy on/off
access. We camped here in a camper.
This is a great "dry camping" type campground in the cool pines. Located about 10 miles north of Flagstaff on Hwy 89. Campground is adjacent to the Sunset Crater Visitor Center. The $9 rate reflects Golden age pass otherwise $18 night without the pass. Sites and roadways are all paved. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This is a beautiful, well maintained National Forest Service Campground adjacent to Sunset Crater Volcano and Wupatki National Monuments. Sites are very large with lots of space between them. There are pull-along sites for very large rigs. Restrooms only, no showers. Ice and firewood are available. Good paved roads; concrete paths to restrooms and around picnic tables. Across road from Sunset Crater Volcano Visitor Center (16 miles north of Flagstaff on US-89). We camped here in a Motorhome.
Pinegrove is one of our favorite places. Lots of shade from the numerous Pine trees, easy to access level sites, and the sites can be reserved. Various hiking trails and fishing close by. It is only open between May - Oct and a favorite place for people wanting to get away from the heat as the campground is at approx. 7000 elevation. It would rate a 10 if it had full hook ups. It does have an easily accessible dump site, clean flush toilets, and showers. It is managed by US Forest Service Paid Volunteers (camp hosts). Most of the time these hosts are friendly and helpful and check on visitors regularly, however this stay the camp hosts were unfriendly and avoided contact. You had to hunt them down to get any assistance at all. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This is a National Forest Campground maintained by volunteer concessionaires. They were very friendly and prompt when campground or visitor attention was required. There are no hookups and generator quiet hours are from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., but there is fresh water for tank filing and a convenient dump station. There are many lakes, trails, and sites to see within a minutes by car. I have found a new favorite campsite! We camped here in a Motorhome.
Stayed in this park back in 2005 and thought it to need freshening up. Well, someone else thought so too and this June stopped to only stay a night but the park is groomed, many neat setting areas through out with a work kamper staff that is fantastic. We stayed for several nights relaxing, found great little pizza place near college and the lovely smell of the pines with the cool nights was delightful. Hard to leave to the heat of the plains states and humidity of the southeast. Yes we will return even being a big pricey, but Flagstaff is a unique place everyone must visit. We camped here in a Motorhome.
I previously avoided this park when they charged for internet access, but internet access is now free, and works well. Check-in staff was very friendly, helpful, and quick. The only problem was that they were so quick that the people escorting campers to sites couldn't keep up, so there was a small delay in getting to camp. Even they were extra friendly, even taking the time to wipe off the faucet (and brag about their great tasting water). We camped here in a Motorhome.
Sites definitely not for big rigs. Talked with two other campers who had problems getting rig in. Both, like me, scraped trees with their rigs. We were all guided in by employees of the park and still had great problems. Easier getting out...thank goodness. If I were to return to this area, I would look for a different park that is more accessible with my size rig. Very close to traffic. You hear it quite a bit and trains all night. On a good note. Park is beautiful. Employees are very nice. Kids loved the playground. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This was/is a very, very, very nice campground. Yes the sites are a little tight, yes you are near the road and yes the roads are a bit much for a big rig... but like the last few posters have commented you are at the base of a mountain in a beautiful shaded pine forest. The staff is great, the store is great, the view is great. My kids really liked the playground, my wife liked the view and I was happy, everyone else was happy! It was nice to see lots of tenters mixed in with RVs... everyone at the KOA seemed to be having a great time. The only thing this campground is missing is a pool! Also the Wi-Fi went out for a while in the morning - overall it was great. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We camped here in a 40ft rig towing a 20 ft trailer and I have read the past reviews about it being narrow. Well it is narrow but it is in the mountains, and it is beautiful! If you know how to drive your rig it is not a problem. Yes, we had to use leveling jacks but it is on the side of a mountain. You can not have it all and what they have a ton of is beauty. I think this is the best KOA we have ever stayed at. The staff was extremely friendly, the managers were great, the kamp kitchen had an excellent made to order breakfast. They even had an events center that they served an all you can eat home made spaghetti dinner with salad and garlic bread that was to die for! They had free wi-fi that worked great, the cleanest bathrooms I have ever seen, the office was beautiful, the store was packed with items you couldn't find at a grocery store and I would stay here again anytime. There are 200 sites here and they are in row just like any other RV park. I am sure if they had less sites people would complain because they were sold out. I heard several people in the laundry room which was so clean talking about how great it was to be in a real campground and not a wal-mart RV park that was ugly. So learn how to drive your rigs people and quit complaining, nice campgrounds like this are becoming rare. We loved the tree's and the mountain and will put in the extra ten minute effort to enjoy nature. Flagstaff KOA should not be missed. If you want an overnight stay find a wal-mart so you can be lazy, but if you want to feel like your at summer camp with games and activities and food and a family atmosphere then go to the KOA and enjoy your vacation. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Your experience will depend on what site you get. We had a non-cable pull through site that was long, level and open enough for our satellite. Wi-Fi worked fine. The park has cut quite a few trees in the back pull-throughs to accomodate larger rigs, but the roads getting to the back are still crowded with trees. Overall we were very happy with the park. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Beautiful campground right next to national forest. You could look out of your site and see the mountains. All the sites are very shaded but very tight. If you own a large motorhome you will have difficulty driving through the park to get to your lot. Most of the sites are unlevel which require more work when you unhook. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Although many of the sites are well spaced, we ended up with a very narrow, non-level and dirty spot. There was not even enough room to sit outside comfortably. Fortunately it was only a quick overnight stop. They emphasize in their hand-out rules that this is a "35 year old campground, not an RV park" and this is very true, however you would never know this by reading the KOA directory. It is really not suitable for large RVs due to the narrow roads, trees and large boulders obstructing travel. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
The receptionist was very helpful and friendly. The maintenance staff loaned us an extra water hose. Restroom and showers were very clean. The campground was exceptionally clean; the sites were shaded; the pet area was clean with paths. We definitely would stay here again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Beautiful park in a mountain setting. The park was quiet and beautifully landscaped. Staff were friendly and helpful. The wifi went down while we were here. tengointernet.com operates the wifi, but it is free. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Beautiful setting, roads are a little narrow, but if you go slowly you will be fine. Very clean and well maintained. We would stay here again. The managers were very nice! We camped here in a Motorhome.
This park is in a very nice forested location. Although the park can handle big rigs, it seems a little tight getting around, and you have to watch out for trees. Our site was not level and it took all of our leveling blocks to level our rig. Very convenient to National Monuments in Flagstaff area. We stayed here two nights in off season and I would have to say that rate seems quite high. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This time of year (late February/early March), this was a great park as many sites were empty. It's in the tall pines and backs up to open land (we assume National Forest). Might get crowded mid-summer as sites are tight. We had no problem negotiating site with a 36 ft motorhome pulling a 15 ft toad. Would camp here again when driving thru. We camped here in a Motorhome.
As with so many KOA's, the sites here are quite narrow so there isn't much privacy. However it is a very pretty campground with lots of pine trees, and it backs up to a Forest Service area where you can take a nice morning walk if you're so inclined. The campground is right off a very busy boulevard, but once you get up inside it's quiet enough. The folks who work in the office are nice both on the phone and in person. We will probably stay here again on our way east from California. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Although they claim to be big rig friendly, with the exception of a few sites, it is challenging to maneuver a 40 foot motorhome into the sites. We were "escorted" to our site by an employee who got out of the cart and stood there watching, and not warning us about a rock on the passenger side, which did major damage to a basement door. The rock on the driver's side was very evident. He then denied the fact that he was out of his cart and stated that I turned too sharply. The sites are very narrow, the roads are narrow, and there are trees which hamper the extension of slides as well as entry and exit from your site. This is a corporate KOA, and I can't believe that they are so willing to continue to keep known hazards such as the rocks in their campground, and not warn those driving larger motorhomes of the tight nature of their campground. Even without the damage, we will not return to this campground. There are others in town, and we rejected them based on prior experience, but they now look better than this campground. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We have stayed in a number of koas & this one was by far the worst. The clerk at the counter was completely disinterested in working & kept talking to some of the other workers. We should have left right then. The site was uneven & took a lot of effort to get close to level. Lots of trees & tight turns. Next time I will just keep driving. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This is a very family and pet friendly campground. Nice amenities and the staff was pleasant and very helpful. However, the pull-through site we were assigned had dozens of ant hills, so we could not really enjoy sitting outside. Upon leaving, we had a difficult time getting out because of the small access roads and location of trees. We have a 30ft fifth wheel and had to wait for the camper behind us to leave so we could back up into their site to leave. Could not pull through because of the proximity of the other fifth wheels and motorhomes across from our site. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Flagstaff is a tough town to get a room no matter where you stay. If you dont call by about 6pm, you will be out of luck for hotels or campsites. For this reason I think this campgrounds figures you can take it or leave it, because they will be full every night. The drive in, after dark, to our campsite, we were "escorted" by an employee in a golf cart. They drove thru the site, stopped and waited for us to negotiate our way between the table and another camper in the next site. There was about 3 inches clearance. When we stopped we were at a downhill angle banked to the right. Being the middle of the night in the dark we slept "off-kilter" and left the next day. If we can avoid Flagstaff in the future we will, otherwise the Walmart lot looks inviting. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Unable to level 40 rig in uneven site. Very tight access roads and sites. Not really suitable for big rigs. Friendly staff. Noisy party next door no fault of the park. We stay in a lot of KOA's and this was not a good example for us. In their defense, we did see a lot of younger people in small RVs - more suited to the small size. We camped here in a Motorhome.
The biggest drawback here are the access roads...narrow with lots of trees. It is manageable with a big rig, but you have to be careful. Like so many parks, it was designed and laid out when camping rigs were smaller and changes have not been made to accomodate larger motor homes with slide-outs. All-in-all, a nice park with good facitilties and a pleasant staff. Lots of trees so sat reception is possible but not guaranteed. We would stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
An older, but very well maintained park. Roads are narrow and windy, but was not a problem for us (our trailer is 34ft). The cable TV was clear, and the wi-fi signal was strong in the back of the park. Free wi-fi was a big plus. Nestled amongst pondrosa pine trees made for very cool camping. I enjoyed hearing the wind go through the pines and aspens, very relaxing. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. A very nice place to stay, and will do so again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
The location for this campground is nice, set amongst the Ponderosa pines. It's close to Flagstaff Mall and a Safeway grocery store, but is surprisingly quiet given its proximity to busy Route 89. The roads are paved, but somewhat narrow and windy (not a problem for us towing a popup, but could be a problem for someone in a big rig). Staff was friendly, Wi-Fi connection was good, and proximity to the dozens of sights in the Flagstaff area is good. We'd stay there again. We camped here in a Tent Trailer.
It's a KOA. What can I say? Small sites, packed together and very crowded. It's hard to negotiate the roads due to trees and large rocks (rocks oddly placed by staff to define sites). I hit one on the way in trying to turn into my site. On a positive note, the owners have tried to free up a little green space, with flowers and lawn-based sitting areas here-and-there. This is nice. The staff is friendly and helpful and they have a good camp store. There is some train and freeway noise, but it's not unbearable. Restrooms are clean. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Nice park; great to camp among tall pines again after a month in the high desert/great plains. Staff was friendly and helpful on check-in, terraced site was level, the back bathhouse is modern and very clean with tiled floors/walls and showers. The CATV, if anything, is too good with so many channels you can spend all night surfing without settling down with any particular programmer. The only things precluding a higher rating was the lack of a pool and the slow WI-FI (Tengo) which took me back to the old dial-up days. Can't comment on the lack of maneuvering space as we drive a 20-ft B. Would certainly return if in the area again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
The staff was very friendly and accomodating when we checked in early, before check-out time. They gave us a choice of several large sites in the back two rows that would accomodate our rig with three slides and tow. Wi-Fi was excellent, cable TV did cost an additional $3 but with all the trees it was worth not messing with the satellite dish. The sites were all sloped uphill as it is on the edge of a mountain but our jacks accomodated the incline well. We would return as the location was excellent for our travels. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is an old park with lots of trees. It is very hard to drive through, and we saw several trees that had been hit so you had better go slow. We saw one camper who had to have lots of help getting into his site. Sites are rocky with too many trees for satellite TV service. We probably would not camp here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Have stayed here a few times. It is true that the park roads are narrow. The park is well treed and said trees bear the marks of many a camper either too big or in too big a hurry to get around the park. We were in a 35' motorhome and had no problems at 5mph. We had the full hookup/pull through and had no problems with any of the services. WiFi ok, plenty of cable channels. My only problem with the sites was they were on an incline. The whole park is in the foothills of Mt. Elden, so the whole park goes uphill. Nice hiking trails though. My only problems were with the clientele. I don't begrudge anybody who has toys (bikes, trikes, atvs). I got 'em too. But in such a narrow setting it makes navigating a big problem. I don't begrudge anybody who has dogs. I got 'em too. But I don't need to listen to them bark at 6am. I can stay home for that. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Very narrow roads! Entry and exit into the park is by the same road and only one vehicle fits at a time. We were in a line of vehicles to check in. Went inside to check in and came out to see my husband fit to be tied as a tourist in a rental tried to squeeze through (the obviously too small space) and ran into the side of our 5th wheel. Not the campgrounds fault - except that their road is too narrow and they need a separate exit road! Roads to sites are narrow with lots of trees (many people scraped down them), but it can be done if you go slow and pay attention. Park atmosphere is nice, you're in among the pines and at the base of Mt Elden with immediate access to great trails. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
The woman at the registration desk was very rude. The sites were small. We had a pull thru site that was not long enough accomodate our 23' trailer and pick-up. Had to park the pick-up in an un-used site next to us. Couldn't use our a/c with 30 amp power. The roadways were very narrow and bordered by trees. I wouldn't attempt to get into this park with a larger rig. I don't think it was worth the price and we won't stay there again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
We have decided not to stay here again. The office staff is nice and helpful but the campground itself is 40 years old. The oldest sites are suitable only for small rigs and pop-ups. There are some older sites that would work for big rigs but they are reserved well ahead of time. These are the 50 amp sites with cable. Seems you can reserve particular sites here so it's hard to get a 50 amp site for more than one night at a time. The back row will accomodate bigger rigs but there is only 30 amp service and they tell you not to use the A/C but you can run your generator until 10PM if you like. If you are away from the office the wi-fi is iffy. The 30 amp sites are narrow; on one site we could not put out one slide, on another site we tried the awning couldn't go out because of a tree. Our motorhome has scratches from the tree limbs rubbing on the side. It took three people to help me back into our last site because of the trees and rocks. We saw more than a few big rigs come in and then leave because they couldn't get into a site. Electricity on 30 amp sites went out on us about five time because of the overload somewhere in the row. During one night it went off and our refrigerator defrosted by morning. For the price, it's not worth the hassle. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is the worst KOA we've ever stayed at. The people who own the park are obviously not investing any more money in it. The park is run down, there is NO pool, the sites are crammed, the bathrooms are stinky and the owners are so cheap they won't even buy toilet seat covers, and worst of all, if you are in a 30 amp site, you are not allowed to run your AC on their electricity. It's 103 today, and we got a knock on our door telling us to shut the AC off. "The park is so old it can't handle it" the clerk told us. Then we were told to use our generator if we wanted AC. This park is the biggest rip off EVER, and if we weren't desperate for a place to stay in the area, we would move on immediately. Avoid this place at all costs. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
A typical KOA, meaning clean restroom/showers and no real surprises. This is much more a family camping destination than most KOA's along the interstates. Place was packed and staff woman was short and frazzled at check in. I probably would have been too. Wife stayed here 40 years ago with parents, said it looked just like she remember then. Little signed nature trail a nice touch for kids. Our site had no cable. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Rude people at the front desk. Wouldn't even move to explain something about washing machines. Although the campsite wasn't even half full, they put us at a bad site facing a wall. Would never visit this site again and also don't recommend it. You'd better park at a parking lot, looks almost the same and people are nicer to you. This site almost made me decide to never visit a KOA again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We enjoyed it. It is tight but we had no problem in a 35 MH and there were rigs bigger than ours. Beautiful setting in the woods on the side of a mountain...we had no trouble leveling and didn't see anyone else with a problem. WiFi is not free. Cable is not on all sites. Staff very friendly. We'd go back if we pass this way again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Overall a nice park. We stay there a few times every year to escape the Phoenix heat. I have never had a problem with any staff. There have been some minor improvements over the years. It is definitely in the woods, and would be difficult for a large rig. Some sites have cable, some do not. The shower facilities are clean and functional. If it had a pool and a few other amenities it could be a 10. It is just a nice quiet place in the woods. There are some permanent residents that have never been a problem while we were there. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Front desk personal were rude. Too lazy to deal with my situation for a long site as I was pulling a trailer. The person I worked with when arriving said I would have to move to a different site for my second day. When I came back the next morning I talked with another person who had no problem allowing me to stay in the same site, but she wasn't very nice about it. Way too many trees for any large RV, the longer sites are not level. In order to level my 34' Motorhome my front bumber was an inch from the ground while my rear tires were off the ground. They only had a few sites with Cable TV and charged an extra $3.00/Day for it. We camped here in a Motorhome.
They put us in the most unlevel site I've ever seen. While there were other sites available, they wouldn't let us move to another site. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This park looks pretty good from the raod, but once inside, it is appearant that it is getting old and the owners are not putting much $$ into it. The sites were tight for our 27' trailer, I don't know how some of the bigger rigs get in here. Most of the sites appeared to be far from level, and many had hookups on the opposite side from the correct side. It is in a nice location and there are plenty of shade trees. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Overall I enjoyed this park and would stay there again. That said, there are some issues:
1. Campsites have strange layouts with utilities sometime s on the wrong side or on *both* sides. 2. There are very few pull-through sites, so if this is important to you, call ahead. 3. Few level sites. Managment was very good to us and even assisted us in trying to resolve a minor catastrophe with our rig. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Very limited big rig sites, due to all of the mature trees. We were there in a very heavy snow and had a difficuly time getting into the seasonal spots open for winter. Office appeared to be closed for the season, just had a slot to deposit the nightly fee. I am sure that in warmer weather it would be a more user friendly spot. It was the only open park in Flagstaff in January when we were there. Would go again, only if we had to stop for weather again. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Some of the sites can take big rigs, but getting to them can be difficult. Also hard to find a level site. We camped here in a camper.
Low mark because this this campground has few facilities, no washrooms, no laundry, no internet, no cable, and not cheap. They also charge extra if you want to use AC or electric heat. The park has mostly seasonal residents. The KOA just down the road is a little nicer. On the plus side, the host was friendly and gave some good sightseeing advice, and there is access to trails from the park. We camped here in a Motorhome.
The manager here is quite friendly and helpful. He even has a card posted on the door of the office with a note stating his phone number and to contact him if he is needed after office hours. The park has many Ponderosa pines providing shade, and does have 50 amp service available. However, there are some negatives. Our site was roomy but very uneven. Sites are confusingly and somewhat haphazardly arranged. Sites and roads are a mixture of gravel and dirt, which would be sure to be muddy in wet weather. Cable TV and Wi-Fi are not available, although there is a coffee shop next door that does have Wi-Fi. Sadly, the scenic value of the pines is almost nullified by the overwhelming number of dilapidated trailers and motorhomes, apparently belonging to dozens of full time or part time residents of the park. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We spent two nights here and found it to be pleasant, well maintained and very quiet. The Manager was very helpful. He found us a long pull-thru site to accomodate our 40' motorhome along with our 20' car trailer. He also arranged to have our propane tank filled, since the delivery was scheduled for a day we were there. The roads are paved and quite narrow, but we were able to drive the big rig and trailer to and from our site with no problems. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This park is clearly designed for longer-term summer residents (as evidenced by rules about planting of flower gardens and installation of carports and storage units, not to mention the fact that "children are welcome to visit for one week at a time"). This is one of the tightest spaces we have occupied, and the park itself is rather claustrophobic. Our pull-through site was not quite level, and very difficult to enter due to the very odd layout of sites in the park. There are no restrooms, no showers, and we did not use the laundry. There is no cable TV and only a few OTA stations (satellite access will be tricky due to the large number of tall pine trees in the park). Wi-Fi is available for a $1/day fee, although management explained that the signal from the nearby coffee house is accessible from the laundry room. Our Verizon cell and broadband service worked well in this park. When asked if we planned to use air conditioning, we were charged an additional $2/day for the increased electricity usage. We camped 1 night with no pets. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Park is for seniors, so no kids running around. A lot of people from PHX spend summers here and we met some very nice folks. Great walking trails on National lands at the rear of park. The park ranges from 6960 to 7000 ft. in elevation, but the sites were level-all gravel. Verizon service is great here. Lots of nice restaurants in nearby Flagstaff and remnants of the old Hwy. 66 era. Would stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We loved this park. The people were wonderful and the setting in the trees was beautiful. We stayed here in a fifth wheel and it was easy to get in and out. You can take a walk right behind the park on national forest land. It's close to Sunset Crater Volcanic Monument and Walnut Canyon National Monument. We will stay here when ever we go through Flagstaff. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This is an RV park that is occupied mostly by monthly renters that are not present. I suspect that people from Phoenix put their trailer there, pay monthly rent, and come up on the weekends. Lots of big trees so if satellite TV is important (it wasn't for us) call ahead to see of they have a suitable spot for you. It's an adult oriented park, with nothing for kids to do. No bathrooms. Staff was very friendly! Our site was a pull through. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We second the previous review about this being a basic campground. We had a nice, shaded, level, gravel spot, which we backed into, with 50 amp, water and sewer. That's all. Other than a laundry and card room there isn't much here. The campground was full. Manger tells me that people from "the valley", meaning Phoenix, park their RV's here all summer and commute up to get out of the heat as the elevation here is almost 7000 feet. The sign in front says it is an "adult oriented" park - meaning no kids. If you just want a place to hook up for the night, this park is just fine. The park is not well marked so look closely - it is just south of a Shell station. GPS Info: 7101 N. Hwy 89, Flagstaff. Lat/Lon N 35d 14.479m, W 111d 34.225m. Google Earth shows N 35d 14m 28.48s, W 111d 34m 10.90s We camped here in a Motorhome.
We stayed here for three nights. The park seems oriented toward long term guests. There are no community showers or restrooms. Very clean and orderly. The hookups looked almost new. Easy access and good location to the city. This is a good place to park your RV, but not really a campground. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This park is a basic RV park. There are no public restrooms or showers. There is a small laundry with 4 washers and 4 dryers. There is no swimming pool. The sites are well-tended and quite large. I believe it is an adult park. We stayed at the park in 2006 for about 3 weeks and enjoyed it very much. They have potlucks, ice cream socials, lunch/dinner outings, card nights and crafting. Owners of the park do not reside there and the managing staff (one or two), very friendly and helpful. There is no restaurant in the park. The park is conveniently located to the large Flagstaff Mall (less than a mile away), together with major grocery stores, restaurants, an RV Repair/Parts Center located at the end of Flagstaff Mall, golf courses and not far from the famous Route 66 area. If you want a basic RV park with reasonable rates, check out Greer's. We camped here in a Motorhome.
The reason we went to this campground was that the bathrooms were rated a 9.5 and I needed to wash my hair. I was very disappointed in the showers! There were only two, they were small, the shower head was tiny and placed very low, and it just was not worth a 9.5 rating at all! The campground has a 10:00 o'clock curfew, which is ridiculous for adults. We wanted to go out to hear some live music Saturday night, but it didn't start until 9:00 pm and we knew we would not be able to be back by 10:00, so we were unable to go. We went to the TV room to watch TV instead and sit on their big, comfortable sofa, but were kicked out at 9:00 pm so they could lock the doors. The park rules are printed on the back of the campground map and we didn't read them until after 6:00. The office closes at 6:00 pm so we could not go ask about staying out past 10:00 pm. The park was clean and neat, but it is located a ways outside the town, so it's not very convenient. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Nice park with level sites, shade trees but close-packed. Next site over was about 7 feet away. Sewer plug is right next to the concrete curb, so hard to get to sometimes. Lots of big Class As in the park, so we felt a mite small. The guy next to us left at 5:15 in the morning! So quiet hours are not necessarily observed. Highway noise from four-lane highway. Hard to see their sign because of local sign codes, I guess, so we missed it on first try. Fairly big pet area where they can be off the leash. Very pet-friendly with 3 "Dog Pots" with bag dispensers and trash bins. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
The owners, JoAnn & Harvey Mickelson, were both very nice and attentive to our needs. The park is clean and entry/exit friendly. The only issue (minor) was street noise; we were in the site closest to AZ-89. I would highly recommend this park. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
I enjoyed the big sites and that it was very pet friendly. Anytime I had a question, it was answered. They have rules and as all rules, they keep the campground safe and pleasant for an all. The RV park was so nice, we stayed an extra week. The owner even watched our dogs for us. How nice is that! So, for all you RVers that want clean sites and a pet friendly place, this is it. We camped here in a Motorhome.

The owners have worked so hard to make this park attractive, they have forgotten that people being there can cause disorder. I felt like I was in a library and the librarian was constantly saying "Shush." We had a mechanical problem with our motor home and were aided by the repairman the owners recommended and they scolded him for opening the engine compartment. They enforced the rules like the Gestapo the entire week we were there and made us feel unwelcome. The 10mph speed limit was rigorously enforced. We camp six months a year and have never encountered such a lack of understanding from campground owners. They acted like we were the Beverly Hillbillies defiling their campground with our malfunctioning rig. Too bad - it was a nice park otherwise. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This was a one night stay. Access to the site from the freeway was easy and upon our arrival the staff was friendly and helpful. Full service hookup points were easy to get to. We would stay at the park again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
As stated in other reviews that sites are very nice, however the owners are a bit officious on some of their "rules." I was stop in Flagstaff again we'll find other accommodations. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Although I agree with the previous reviews comments, there is more to a campground than the physical facilities. Unfortunately our week stay was marred by some heavy handed rules and poor practices by the management. If you stay only a single night, you probably will not be affected by the control over your activities. We asked for a satellite friendly site over 6 months in advance and although available when we arrived, we were denied this type of site because they are "saved for overnighters" (this doesn't make sense to me either). Have water on your slide covers, too bad because you are not allowed on your own roof to push it off - and you are also not allowed to use a ladder for any purpose. Campers are expected to be home by 10PM. And don't even think about opening your hood to check the oil. Some rules are written with a wink, but these are enforced. The only conclusion I can reach is that management runs the campground for their convenience without regard to their customers needs and interests. I would think twice about staying for any length of time and would not stay again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
J and H RV Park has made some important changes for the big rigs that travel East and West on I-40 or are headed to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. In the past two years, they have removed 30 sites and made huge open sites. With relocated utilities in the rear, it makes entry and exit very easy without unhooking. This park has a pickle ball court so you can get some exercise on the road with this new sport phenomenon. A basketball hoop is also available. Because of schedule, we stayed only one night but will definitely plan on more time there on the way back. Harvey and Joann, who own and operate this park, have won many awards for their management style and it shows. The restrooms and showers were spotless. Probably the park’ finest attribute was appreciate by the small Minpin who travels with us. An enhanced dog run, over 500 feet, was a shady and pleasant place to spend time. Although we have stayed in this park many times in the past, this was the first time in the past five years and the improvements really show forward thinking and were greatly appreciated by this RV enthusiast. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We really loved this park! The owner, HaRVey (yes, that's how he writes it!) made us feel welcomed and at home, immediately. The park was clean, well maintained and our site was an easy pull-through. The office/gift shop/store was well stocked. This is a good location for visiting the Grand Canyon, Sunset Crater, Jerome, Oakcreek Canyon, and Sedona. Our only tiny complaint is the red, crushed lava on the sites. It is easily carried into the RV on shoes and is messy in the rain. We will definitely stay here again when visiting the Flagstaff area. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Rate with Good Sam discount. Friendly owners, nice, clean park. Large sites accommodate big rigs easily but are a bit close together -- when we put our awning out we nearly touched our neighbor's slide-out. We were able to get our satellite TV so didn't use cable, but it's available. Contrary to other posts and what their literature says, we were able to get wi-fi at our site -- hope it was the campground's and not someone else's! Quiet, convenient, nice place to stay. We're here only for an overnight stay; if we were going to be here longer it would be nice to have a bit more space or some grass to put out our chairs and grill. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This very clean and well managed park clearly shows pride of ownership in all its facilities and operations. It is, as other mention, geared to adult and really senior adult clientele. The sites are reasonably level gravel. The hookups are a bit oddly positioned with respect to the vehicle locations but manageable. Restrooms and showers are spotless and there is a nice doggie run facility. Free Wifi is apparently available in the office but there are fees charged for Wifi at sites which is annoying in this modern day. Road noise is quite noticeable in the front sites. Overall a pleasant, albeit a bit expensive, spot to stay especially if you fit the demographic. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
An adult campground. Nothing for children to do here. All sites are gravel. In fact the whole campground is gravel, no grass. Sites are almost level. Staff was cordial. When registering you're informed that you drive to your own site. Your tow vehicle MUST be parked in a certain manner on site. Pro's: Sites are large. Facilities clean. Easy access gravel roads. Free Wi-Fi and Cable TV. Cons: No trailers over 10 years old. No clotheslines or bird feeders. No tents. No car or RV washing. No climbing on roof of your RV. Np camp fires. No pool. No entering park after 10PM. We requested a picnic table and was told they would deliver them later. Well, 3 days later still no table. We would stay here again but would enter in to other parks also. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This is a very nice park, located about 3 miles from I-40, so road noise isn't a problem. People are friendly and the sites are nice and wide. The park is maintained very well. Access from the road and within the park is very good. There is a huge dog walk as well as a pet wash. The only reason I don't give it a perfect 10 is that the WiFi is expensive and occasionally slows down to a crawl. Also there is no cable TV. We would definitely stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is one of the nicest parks we have stayed in. We arrived with the thought of only staying 1 night. We extended our stay 2 additional days to rest and relax. The park is small but extremely neat. The red gravel keeps everything clean while it rained on us all 3 days. We found Harvey and his wife (the owners) to be very friendly and helpful. As we were leaving, Harvey came by our site and gave us a thank you card. Perfect park, perfect stay!!! We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
In twenty years of Rving, J&H is by far one of the best parks we have found. They are one of the few who enforce their rules making it wonderfully quiet and peaceful for everyone. We were there during some rain storms and were glad that the park had a covering of gravel so that we didn't have to step in mud anywhere. The owners have gone beyond the call of duty to make this park comfortable, friendly, clean, and beautiful for those of us who are full time rver's. We camped here in a Motorhome.
After reading other reviews didn't know what to think...this is a really nice park..owners nice, have lots of rules yippee!! if you don't like rules don't go here. Restrooms spotless, dog run great. Would return in a heartbeat.. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Small park but we liked it for a one night stay. The site was level and had shade. There is a fee for WiFi if you use it at your site, but free inside their building. We would stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We are rating this average due to a few things. The couple that manage this park do not communicate very well with each other. One will say something is ok to do, then the other one says its wrong and that's not park policy. The park also states it's family friendly, and although they provide a playground, which looks like it hasn't been used in years, we felt like children were not to be seen or heard. There were families staying in the park during our stay, but we never saw them unless they were going to the showers. They do provide good pet areas. There is an extensive dog run and dog wash area. The bath facilities are spotless, as are the rest of the facilities. The owners seemed a little too festidious and demanding in their park policies. We wanted to stay longer to explore the Flagstaff area, but we moved on because of the way we felt at the park. If you are a senior citizen traveling in a big expensive rig, you will be welcomed and treated like royalty at this park. We would choose another park to stay at if we passed through Flagstaff again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This is was a very pleasant park to spend a few days at. It is small, seemed to cater to retired/senior RV'ers, very quiet, and the owner (Harvey) was very helpful and pleasant. I would certainly recommend it and would revisit for future trips. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This campground has a variety of sites. Some are quite large others are very tight. At our site the guy next door had parked his 5th wheel where the slide actually was over our site and then complained when our slide would have been right up next to his. The hostess actually asked me to move over, which meant that we wouldn't be able to park the toad at the site. The Wi-Fi available at the site is a commercial service and isn't very fast. Wi-fi was important to us since we work remotely and needed a day or two of good access. Campfires were not allowed. Overall we managed OK here. We worked one day then went to the Grand Canyon another day and then went our way. We would stay here again but only for one or two nights. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Best park in Flagstaff! Spaces ere easy to get our 40' motor home in and out of. We didn't care much for the red lava rock on the sites. Everything, but the dog run was well maintained. We felt it was good place for a short summer stay. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Super clean park with a nice staff. Not much in the way of a setting, just a place off the main road toward Zion, etc. Not a place I'd stay for very long as it really lacks any true ambiance and doesn't have Wi-Fi. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Watch carefully for the small sign or you will miss this park. It is well kept, but could use better gravel, the current mix means you will be tracking dust into your RV unless you are really careful. There is a hot tub, but not in an attractive location. Unlike most parks (and motels) in Flagstaff, it is not near a train track or crossing. It does, however, get quite a bit of road noise from Highway 89. Our biggest problem in our recent stay there was the wind. If it is windy anywhere in Flagstaff it will be very windy at this park. We will probably stay here again, but only in a calm season. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This tightly-managed park is visually appealing, with long, level, reasonably wide sites. Very nice common areas, both outdoors and indoors. Wi-Fi at your site costs extra (we had great reception on our Verizon aircard), but is free in the TV lounge. Our rating would be higher if the sites had cable TV and picnic tables. Noise from Hwy 89 is somewhat annoying. We don't have a dog, but the dog walk area and fenced off-leash area seem like useful amenities. We will return when we are in the area again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
The hot tub is small, above ground, could not fit 4 people; book exchange was take 1/leave 2 (first time I saw this in 16 months of fulltiming); sites were on crushed red rock that got into your shoes and were carried into the RV; the pet wash was not open; the owner seemed more interested in selling short manuscripts (20 pages for $5) he had written; no picnic tables at sites; signage to find the CG woefully inadequate We camped here in a Motorhome.
Wildly divergent ratings depending on what you're looking for. Clean park, decent location (close to town and local attractions), **very** clean restrooms and showers. Big screen TV in clubhouse for customer use - a nice touch. This campground, however, was the most family-unfriendly in my four-week-old road trip so far. On check in, I was asked how old each of my three children was - which isn't a problem in and of itself, but we were charged an additional $5 fee for our oldest, who is 3 years old. This is a first on this road trip or any other. We were told that the policy is that the base rate covers 2 people, and that each additional person who can walk costs an additional $5 per night, regardless of age. The park is small, the sites are small, and the service is decidedly unfriendly. The facilities, however, are more than adequate re: cleanliness and location. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Park has easy access for large rigs with very level sites. Located close to highway 89 and just off I-10 with noise level very acceptable. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Nice park - well laid out with wide level gravel sites. Gravel patio with picnic table. Roads are well packed gravel as well. Fenced in dog run is nice but a little out of way if your site is toward the front of the park. Wonderful Sunday Pot Luck Dinner, great friendship among campers. Excellent owners but have a tendency to be a little overbearing. Chastised us smoking IN our RV with windows open, and a cigar outside of our RV with wind blowing. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Small park which did not deliver the reserved pull-through (with no apologies), and did not seem to want to make good on the promised site. We reluctantly agreed to a very small back-in. We checked in early and saw many pull-through sites open; however, by nightfall, the park was completely full. Sites are covered in dusty red dirt/rock, and not as level as they appear. Internet access is not quite as advertised. Yes, there is fee-based wifi at your site, but the “free modem” in the main building turns out to be an old data phone with a phone cord (you need your own modem and ISP with toll-free dial-up numbers). The restroom and shower areas are very clean. Next visit will probably be to another park. We camped 2 nights with no pets. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Park was very clean, friendly, and quiet. Had a nice dog run but was not lit at night and not very big. Had a play area for kids and basket ball hoop. Easy access for big rigs. It seemed mainly people wintering from Phoenix. Overall a good place to stay. We will stay there again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Nice small park. Staff was very friendly. Well maintained park. WiFi costs extra, which most top parks are including. Easy access off US89 and not far from I-40. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We really liked this park. The site we had was quite large and we had lots of room for our 40 ft. RV with 4 slides out. The dog park was in good shape and bags provided. (I do apologize to the owners for other dog owners who still don't clean up after their pets. Here is a campground that provides a safe run for you pet plus bags and they are still too lazy to take care of their own mess). The park was quiet and the owners friendly. We will stay here again when in Flagstaff. We camped here in a Motorhome.
I stayed here 2 nights. I found the sites to be very skinny and you had to hug one side so that your electric steps could open. You could not open your awning if you wanted to. Wi-fi was expensive per day charge. The staff was organized and check in was speedy. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Very nicely layed out RV park. Some sites are fairly close but acceptable. I would stay here again. Staff helpful and really work to make this park nice. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We really enjoyed this park. Although small, the owner has turned the narrow spaces into larger ones by eliminating every other space. Nice shade trees surround the area and beautiful group picnic areas available. The park was quiet and peaceful. The park does have a lot of rules posted, but if you take time to read them you'll find the owner's humor at every turn. We were impressed with the dog run, but unfortunately, if you're not a "little person" you run the risk of being decapitated while entering the "no leash" zone. My husband ran into the aluminum frame that houses the gate twice. (You'd think he'd have learned the first time??) We found the owners to be pleasant and helpful and we will definitely return to this park again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Actually a very nice park. Unfortunately, it feels like living in a prison camp. A senior couple across from us had had a young couple visit with their tiny baby. Maybe great-grandson or something. The owner chased them from parking in front of the spot. It was clearly NOT interfering with any traffic. The couple left in less than a half an hour. It was sad for them to have to move their van for only a few minutes when is would not have interfered with anyone anyway. Also, they encourage you to turn in your neighbor for bad behaviour. In fact, they REWARD you for turning in your neighbor for bad behaviour. On top of all that, the picnic tables are stained. Unfortunately, it stains your clothes when you sit on it. The sites were not level as you would expect. My friend stayed in a smaller site for his little class c. He could barely open his door without hitting the RV nest door. I never seen anything like it. But they did have a good dog run. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This park was very nice. I found the owners to be very friendly and helpful. In some parts of the park they have converted two spaces into one large space so they now have some quite large spaces. We would definitely stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Flagstaff has very little greenery, so this park (like all others there) has a lot of red volcanic dust. Hard to keep your dog clean, but this park is quite pet friendly. This park was nice and well maintained. Tending to be more of an adult park, it has several recreation items. Small store, nice laundry set-up and rec. room. Would stay here again. Bring warm clothing. It snowed here the end of April. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We stayed in Oct. 2005 in a 37' motor home. The park was spotless, you can tell the owners took great pride in their park. JoAnne and Harvey were very helpful and funny. The wife and I had a great time and we will be back. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Nice looking park. However they have way to many signs for rules. The trash was over flowing and it was impossible for me to find the dog run. Most of the spaces are very narrow and allow little to no room. Wifi access was good from our location. If I'm in the area again I would not stay here. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We've stayed at this park several times and it's very neat and tidy. Full of rules, etc., just like everyone else has noted. Our site was the last one closest to the highway and it was extremely noisy and busy. But the one annoying new rule I noticed this time was the exclusion of malamutes including mixed breed. Having owned such a dog who was a therapy dog to boot and to think she would not have been allowed, ruffles my feathers big time. I have to add that I heard a lot of "yapping" of the little dogs. But I guess that doesn't annoy him!! We'll stay at Greer's Pine Shadows across the street next time where everyone is welcome. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This park has the prettiest gravel I have ever seen, in fact, the entire place is very neat and tidy and pretty. But there is a Stepfordian feel to it that made us rather uncomfortable. Hard to relax with all those rules and regulations posted every 5 feet offering a "bounty" for offenders. The dog walk (so highly praised a couple of reviews above) was admittedly nice but unusable after dark. I had to let my dog take a stealth pee in the gravel at about 5 a.m. luckily, no one saw and reported me, or I'd probably have been kicked out! And the sites were uncomfortably close together, even though we paid extra for a wide one. Since we were only there overnight, we didn't experience any of the problems that a few others have noted. And I must emphasize that the owners were very polite to us at check in. As noted, it IS a lovely park. I can understand why they are proud of it. But, the abundance of signs and rules made me feel like I was staying at a pleasant little detention camp. I could understand all those "thou shalt nots" if we were staying at their house for free, but we were paying customers. Note to J and H, unfortunately, when you're running a business, sometimes you just have to deal with the pesky public! And most businesses try to cater to the customer, rather than expecting the customer to cater to them. If you like things just so and are an unabashed nit-picker (or a former high school hall monitor) you will enjoy your stay greatly. If you're the type that tends not to wear your panties in a knot, then you probably would be more comfortable camping elsewhere. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We have stayed at J&H RV Park several times and always enjoy it. The park is clean, quiet, and well maintained. There are several nice patios with flowers and fountains, good places to relax and meet your neighbors. The owners are always friendly and greet us with a smile and usually a hug. Yes, there are rules; but nothing you would not expect in a park of this quality. As for the signs, I guess you either love them, hate them, or don't really notice. Many people seem to love them as they walk around taking pictures with their cameras. Most are humourous and usually hit the mark. The WiFi worked very well for us. There is a weekly potluck cookout, with burgers provided by the park. Everyone was very friendly and made us feel welcome and at home. This is one of the best parks we have stayed at, well deserving of its high Trailer Life rating and selection as RV Park of the Year; twice. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

J&H does have an excess amount of rules. You are expected to leash your dog on the way to the block long pet run (which has sections for large and small dogs) or to the dog bath (which has hot and cold running water and an electrical outlet). The doggy pooper bags stations all over the park indicate that you are expected to clean up after your dog. Yuck. There is a cookout every Sun. night. The resort furnished the entre but you are expected to provide your own beverage and eating utensils. And the free breakfast is only coffee and rolls--not an omlette in sight. The outdoor activity area boasts a number of activities as basketball, horseshoes, pickle ball, etc. However, you are expected to supervise your children and not let them run free and that's a real pain. How can you have any peace and relaxation if you have to supervise the kids all day? Because of the fire danger, it is suggested that you use the gas grill provided instead of the charcoal grills. If you do use the charcoal grills, they expect you to waste time extinguishing the fire. Like a little charcoal fire is going to burn the place down. Sounds paranoid to me. The inside recreation room closes at nine o'clock so if you want to party till the wee hours, you are out of luck. Just because the owners have put their life's blood into building and maintaining this place, they think they can run the park any way they want. They will be happy to refund your fees if you can't live with their rules and even your visitors are expected to follow the rules. That really seems a bit much. If you like to party hardy, drink a lot, smoke some weed, and raise a ruckus, you will hate it at J&H RV Park. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This park is clean, well kept and all the don'ts are visible posted. The lady was very nice. The old gruff that is referred to in previous reviews wasn't present (must have been making new signs -- at least 200+). My impression about the signs left me feeling that Serbian prision camps had a better customer relations department than this place. The dog walk/playground is nice except at night it's darker than pitch black! The tempary visitors were nice and friendly, the perminent residends must have been recruted from the retiring Serbian prison guard ranks. Don't leave early, you be greated by some very unfriendly "crusted out bats". We only stayed one night so we may have cought them and a bad time...(or the rest of the staff was out tormenting street people and we got them on a good day). I'd stay again only if I got a signed statement from six people saying they planted (carried him to his grave) the absurd moron that posted so many DON'T or TURN IN OFFENDER sign's. Rember Big Brother (or his crotchty old father is watching). We camped here in a Motorhome.
My first visit to J & H RV Park was in May, 2004. I intended to stay 1 month. Because of the owners and the guests I got to know, and the park, itself, I stayed until the park closed for the winter on October 15th. Tigger the cat and Edmund the squirrel are the only full time residents. In 2005, my stay began on April 15th and will, again, last until the end of the season. I like it here. When I was young, I was told to leave things better than I found them. Part of this is valid criticism. The personal insults and vitriol spewed by some of the reviewers are uncalled for. It's as bad as the political campaigns we've had to endure. Perhaps an old quote from Sgt. Joe Friday applies - "Just the facts, ma'am." We camped here in a Motorhome.

I'm a bit amazed by the number of negative reviews; my stay there was pleasant, and the
owners were really good folks...even hand-delivered a "thank you" card before we left. The park is probably the cleanest I've seen, with really good WiFi available. The only real complaint is that the sites are *really* narrow. Because of this I went with the "wide" site (for more $), but even then there was only sufficient room on one side: the rig on the other side was literally about 4 feet from my wall...note that I *don't* have slide-outs. The only other thing that reduced the rating for me is that the place is not at all kid-friendly...as in they'd rather see your dog than your kid. So a 7 with kids, and a 9 without them: I split the difference. Once the kids are grown I'd come back. We camped here in a Motorhome.

VERY strange little RV park. Run like a concentration camp. I understand the need for rules, but these folks take it to EXTREMES! There are over 200 (counted 'em) signs around the park, many offering a reward (they throw out the offender and give a free night to the person that turned them in) if you turn in fellow campers for offenses (they ask that you write down a description of the person and get their site number!). The capital offenses are: dog indiscretions, cigarette butts, blowing your nose in the shower, leaving/entering the park before 8:00 am or 10:00 pm, bad aim at the toilet, motorcycles (big time!) going the wrong way on the gravel roads, you get the idea. I have never felt so uncomfortable in a park, EVER. We couldn't wait to leave. Yes it is clean (chain gangs keep it that way I guess), but we had numerous problems: 1. Water pressure was only 6-9 PSI. 2. Voltage dropped to 94VAC and 54Hz 3. They changed the combination to the restroom and did not inform anyone and were nowhere to be found to get the numbers. 4. Front desk staff gabbed on the phone rather than assisting people and were never on time opening in the morning. 5. I almost broke an ankle using the very dark and unlit dog run (there is a big step down right after you get through the gate and it is pitch black). 6. WiFi (the reason I chose the park) is almost unusable and I needed to make 12!!! calls to get back on and they double billed me (twice the price for half the service...) - this is RV Wifi.Com (using AirPath). 7. Don't even think of doing ANYTHING to the exterior of the RV - I got barked at for checking the pressure in my tires! 8. I was asked three times (not by Park owners)whether I "was LDS" - very weird. 9. Trash dumpster was overflowing multiple times (they need more). 10. All of the sites are covered with small red rock which gets everywhere in the RV (especially if you have one one of those evil 4 legged critters). One of the owners has a real anger problem, and detonates on a fairly regular schedule (goes after wife, kids, campers, anyone). Believe me I could go on. So if you like things tidy and ummmmhhh... organized this is the place for you, otherwise stay somewhere else. We previously stayed at Woody Mountain and it was great (but not Internet friendly). I spent twenty years in the military and they have too many rules even for me! We camped here in a Motorhome.

The older negative comments seem to be a bit extreme with respect to the signs and rules. I
found at least 50% of the signs to be humorous, albeit sometimes an effective way to communicate the rules. By the same token, the most recent comment stating that it had been the best campground that the reviewer stayed at in the 100 campgrounds they'd visited, also seems a bit extreme. My husband and I have been full-timing for over a year now, and it's certainly not the best campground at which we've stayed. The campground certainly has a lot to recommend it: The people were friendly at check-in; they recommended a decent restaurant at which to eat, and the campground is relatively neat and clean (the granulated gravel kept getting in my sandals.. A minor irritation). However, one minor problem was that the campground info flyer indicated the office and main laundry opened at 9 am. Yet I received a recording several times when I called one morning. When I finally reached someone shortly before 10 am, she said that they didn't open at 9 am. I certainly don't think they ought to reprint the flyers, but surely they could hand-write the change or let people know when they checked in. All that said, I would've rated the campground a 9 were it not for the problem with the WiFi. I confess, I'm spoiled by the fast speed and will go out of my way to stay at campgrounds with WiFi when I have a lot of things to do on the internet. When I made the reservation, I specifically asked them for a site at which we would be able to receive the provider signal (some campground provider's either can't or won't cover the entire campground with their signal requiring that you park RV in sites near the signal). She said no problem: all the sites were covered. All day the signal has been either low or very low (very similar to the speed when we use wireless via our cell phone), or it cuts out all together ...right when I'm in the middle of doing something. In fact, I am re-writing this review [in a word document before I paste to the website form] because I had almost finished typing in the last review and went to submit and got kicked out. If campgrounds are going to "benefit" in getting the increased traffic from those RVers who want WiFi, they need to be responsible for the product that is provided via the third party provider. I don't think we'll be back We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

A couple of previous posts complained about the "poor attitude" of management at this
park, and I want to correct it. It is true that they strictly, but fairly, enforce rules that are for the benefit of everyone, and it is also true that they do not allow repair work in the park unless it is an emergency. These folks have built this RV park with their own hands and are intensely proud of it. They consider it their life's work, and it is immaculate. I found both Harvey and JoAnn to be really fine people who go out of their way to accomodate any reasonable request. (Harvey even came to our rig one day when we could not get back in time and let our dog out and fed him.) We recently spent six months on the road and stayed at over 100 campgrounds in 29 states. This was the best of all. The "signs" all over the place are for sale, and are very, very funny. This park is a gem and anyone who badmouths it (like a couple of people did), are people who don't want to follow the rules which make a park superior. You try this park and you will love it, and you will love the owners--two of the finest people I have ever met. We camped here in a Motorhome.

DO NOT have RV or Truck problems in this park. I had a valve stem go bad on a tire on my truck while we were at the park. The (woman) management did not want to allow my emergency road service (Good Sam ERS) in the park to change my tire. She was very uncooperative! I understand the park wanting to maintain a good image and not allowing major repairs but, this woman was very hard to deal with and did nothing to help me get back on the road. She had a TERRIBLE attitude for someone in business and working with the public. However, they do have a nice park. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed here only because the KOA up the road really wasn't able to accommodate our rig (56' overall length, truck and 5W combined, and 12 1/2 feet high). We found JoAnne to be a lovely person, but Harvey is one of the most obnoxious individuals I've met. He epitomizes the grumpy-old-man persona. He has posted negative signs all over the park. The only way to escape them is to stay in your rig 24 hours a day. At first I thought it was just an overdone joke, but I decided that the signs really do reflect his personality. He's obsessed with rules, and doesn't know the word "please". The park is immaculate and lovely to look at but the atmosphere is hostile. Harvey made us very uncomfortable (think "Gestapo"). We won't go back. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed at this park on our trip West for about four day's due to some repairs at a local RV repair shop. Great repair shop. The lady manager at the RV park seemed nice enough, but the man (her husband) walked around with a scowl on his face all day and didn't have too much to say. On our return trip, we stayed here again with our new coach we had purchased in Oregon. We were leaving on a Sunday morning. I went down his one way road, had to disconnect the tow car and turn around. This is when this "man" went wild. He told me I couldn't park in the main road to connect my car. He and I were
the only ones out at that time of the morning. I told him I could connect in five minutes. He got in his van and scratched off in the gravel and called me names as he drove away. Mind you, this man was dressed for church as he had his wife in the van with him. He got me so bumfuzzled, I started driving off with the emergency brake on the car. He pulled along side and told me about the brake and cussed me out further!!!!!!!!!! NO, I don't think I would stay here again and I sure would not recommend this
to my worst enemy Plus, he has these DUMB signs all over the park that he had put up. We camped here in a camper.

Nice well kept park, very quiet, cool mountain breezes. Would return again! We camped here in a camper.
We knew we wanted to escape the heat this summer and thought what better place than in the cool Ponderosa Pines of Flagstaff, Arizona. One of my brothers lived in the area for awhile and loved it. Some very good friends of the family had stayed at Kit Carson RV Park and had very nice things to say about it. Our reservations were made during winter for a June through August stay. We're now three weeks into our stay and have not had a single positive experience with the park. Hang onto your RV's steering wheel, here's where it starts to get ugly. * After pulling into the site and setting-up we were shocked, no pun intended, to discover that the site only has 30 amp electrical service. When making the reservation we specifically requested a 50 amp site. On check-in day we once again received assurance that the site has 50 amp electrical service. When we confronted the Manager, Pat, about the discrepancy she replied, "I'm legally blind, I made a mistake." Pat, and her sidekick Diane, proceeded to get nasty with us when we expressed our frustration with the situation. We agreed to try the site and see if it would work-out, if not, they would refund our money. * Our mail (like most full-time RVers) follows us from our home state to wherever we happen to be. Everyday for 8 days we checked with Pat to see if she had made a mail key for us. On the ninth day the heavens moved her to get the job done. Each day we checked with Pat we received a new sarcastic, nasty excuse. * The bulk of our mail arrives by Fedex on Tuesdays. Tuesday, June 17, 2008 we arrived at the office to collect our mail only to discover the office was closed while Diane took Pat to a doctor appointment. We continued to check back throughout the day until 5:00 - the office never opened. We were unable to retrieve our mail until Wednesday morning. Instead of an apology from Pat and Diane we received a snide remark. Later in the day after checking the Fedex website I found that our mail had been left outside the door of the office which sits on Route 66. * Dumping waste tanks is one of the not so pleasurable but necessary evils of a life in an RV. Friday, June 20, 2008 early in the evening our "black" tank was full; it was time to do the deed. Immediately I knew we had a problem. Waste water, raw sewage, was leaking from around the hose that coupled to the parks sewage system. The situation grew worse very quickly - I won't gross you out with further details. I flagged down my parents and asked them to help. My mother found our family friend who tried to find staff from the park to help - no luck. We got the situation under control as best we could and I placed an urgent phone call to the office. I left a voice mail explaining the situation but was disappointed that there was no "in case of emergency" contact information offered. Eventually the Manager's home was found and she said she would alert the caretaker. We didn't hear from anyone Friday evening. When the office opened Saturday morning my parents were there to discuss the situation with Pat. She informed them that the situation would not be corrected until Monday when the plumber would be out. They asked about getting someone out over the weekend but Pat told them that wasn't going to happen. My Father told Pat that he was sure the Health Department would have something to say about that. Pat replied, "Do what you have to do." It's Sunday morning as I write this - we're still leaking raw sewage. * Rules of the park are unenforced. Pat's "management style" is neglect. Several of the park models have tarps erected at various places that make the place look like a refugee tent city. There is no enforcement of site decoration rules. Loud dogs are commonplace. Many sites have more than two dogs (the limit imposed in the rules). Gatherings at campsites are very large and inconsiderate of the noise they create for neighbors. Kit Carson RV Park offers a beautiful setting in the Ponderosa Pines of Flagstaff, Arizona. It also offers the most unfriendly, uncaring, rude, ineffective, and inefficient management I've ever encountered in any business. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This park might have been a good park in it's day. That time has passed. Many of their electrical connections are broken and laying on the ground with exposed wiring. They have no water pressure. There was a significant amount of garbage laying around. We would NOT stay here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We have stayed here many times over the past few years. We love the heavy trees and sounds of Elk in the woods. The most friendly staff who always escort you to your site. This time we experienced something new. We all know there are some real bad people in the world but rarely a real bad RVer. We woke up to find some one stole our waste hose. Talk about low lifes. But it was a one time incident. I would go back again and again. Try the Campus Cafe in town. Great coffee drinks, great breakfast and lunch too. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We stayed at this campground due to the reviews I had read on this site before our trip. The staff was very friendly and they escort you to your site. You can even have pizza delivered to your camper! Can't comment on showers as we did not use them and can't comment on the pool as we did not see it. We would stay again for sure. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
I consider Woody Mountain more of a campground than a RV park, which is what we prefer. We stayed for 9 days/8 nights. It is rustic, with soil/cinder sites, and it is forested. This was our base for exploring Flagstaff, Oak Creek Canyon, Sedona, the Grand Canyon, Walnut Canyon, Sunset Crater, and Wupatki National Monument. We will make it a point to stay here again when we are in Flagstaff. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
I have read the reviews of this campground. This is Arizona. There is little grass and lots of dirt and sand. This park is like being in the mountain area. Lots of pine trees, roads are dirt and rain washed. Sites are not very level. You have to drive through carefully because of the trees. Tried to get a local tv station. Could only get one and it was fuzzy. Our biggest problem was the 7,600 ft. altitude. We were not use to the thin air and had to leave after the first night. We were going to stay for 3 nights but they gave us back our fee for the other 2 nights. This is not a Resort. It is more like being in the sticks and not for everyone. The people are great. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
I read so many complaints about the red dust. It never even dawned on me. My only problem was the tiny pebbles that managed to stick to your sneakers and get inside our MH. I agree with everyone they are all very very friendly. This was our second stay there. That construction in the back has been stalled for the past 2 years so there is no noise back there anymore. The trees and rustic feel is part of the experience. Clean fresh cool air and you will hear the Elk roar back in that forest. Oh and they have AZ lottery there too ! We camped here in a Motorhome.
Positives: friendly staff, pool (small), trees, big sites Negatives: red dust everywhere, no wi-fi or cable, highway re-construction going on right behind the campground. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Staff was friendly and did escort us to our site. It is not paved and there was a lot of red dust all over everything. Some of the sites are very hard to get into and a few of the roads were tricky getting around on, due to severe wash outs. They said the pool was heated, but that is questionable. Overall the park is a little run down and could use some upgrades. We camped here in a Motorhome.
The desk person at this campground was very friendly. Great place to spend a couple of days. The sites were close but no problems. No train noise which is important for the area. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
The staff at this campground were very friendly and helpful. They had a pool and a store. Some of the sites were close together. We felt we were a little close on one side. On the other side was an rv that stayed there from March to October and they had set up fountains, canopies, wildlife statues, you name it! Only thing missing was a pink flamingo. The campground was heavily wooded and there seemed to be a fine coating of red dust everywhere. That might have been natural or it might have been due to the fact that a forest fire had been put out right across the street from them the previous week. We stayed there a couple of days and I was ready to leave because I was really sick of that fine red dust! If they had gravel sites, it would have been much better. I might look around for something better but would stay there again if everything in the area had that red dust. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is a nice park. It is rustic, with gravel sites, no patios, but you would expect that in Flagstaff. It is up amongst the pine trees. People are friendly, you are escorted to your site. The staff monitors the campground continuously, which I assume is for safety of your property. It is on Route 66, and out of the busy downtown area. Close to an I-40 exit, but off of the Interstate enough that you don't hear it. You do hear the trains coming and going, but no whistles to scare you out of a sound sleep. We would stay here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We were only going to stay a couple of nights but when we set up our site with the wonderful smell of the pines and the beautiful weather we decided to stay a week! There is lots to do on day trips- Oak Creek Canyon Scenic Drive(WOW!) into Sedona,Gorgeous Sedona, The GRAND Canyon, and four national monuments. The sites are hard packed red dirt, fairly level and shaded by Ponderosa pines. The staff is wonderful, friendly and very helpful. We loved this park! We camped here in a Motorhome.
Quiet campground on the edge of town. The sites are dusty and close together. Water is trucked in, so they ask you to be considerate. Our outside flow restrictor was dripping, so someone came along and shut off our water, without telling us! Otherwise, everything was fine and we would stay here again, but probably only as a stopover, even though the Grand Canyon and other notable sites are nearby. Staff was friendly and helpful, at the campground and with local information as well. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
If you like a park that is very old and rustic, dusty and not maintained very well, then this is the place for you! Way too much dust. We were there 3 days and although they do use an old water truck to wet down the roads, they never once came down the road we were on. There is a new housing development just starting to be built at the rear of this campground and the heavy equipment started in at 7am and continued all day. It appears that the owners are just waiting for the right offer from a developer to sell to as the maintenance is very lacking. Will not stay here again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Interior roads and sites are dirt, some roads are deeply rutted. The bathrooms/showers were dirty with mud and overflowing trash cans. The mens restroom was virtually flooded from a roof leak. The swimming pool was filled with grey/green water. Some minor train noise. Site themselves are fairly level with lots of pine trees around. The campground is quiet and a great basecamp for day trips to Sunset Crater and Wapatki National Monuments. The office staff was very helpful and gave us lots of very useful literature. Next time though, if it were open, I would stay at Bonito campground (no hook-ups) at Sunset Crater National Monument. Driving through we saw that the sites were level and spacious and although Trailer Life says no slides for this campground there is plenty of room. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Dirt roads and sites, very shaded, even some trees could go to make access better. I had to
pull thru the site across from mine to leave. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

This is a very nice, quiet secluded, and rustic campground in W. Flagstaff, even though it
is only 2 mi. from I-40, exit 191 on Old Rte 66. All roads/pads are dirt/gravel with fairly level pads. The park is maze-like and confusing in its layout, but all rigs are escorted to their sites and once you know your way around, it's kind of neat! The management is very camper-oriented and friendly. There many restrictions, but the pluses far outweigh the minuses.(For example, the water is very good, but they truck every drop in, and they want you to conserve. They are strict, but they are polite, friendly, and will work with you on most issues. They are very "homey" but they are professionals, and they will provide you with info, directions, maps/ and whatever else you require, in order to insure that your camping experience is positive. They have the following conveniences/facilities: heated outdoor pool, campstore w/limited groceries/rv supplies, deli, lounge, tours, hiking area, movie rental arcade games, adult room, rec room, playground, horseshoe pits. excellent central base for exploring flagstaff area, Grand Canyon National Park, and Sedona-to Prescott tour. The park is very dark at night, due to minimal lighting throught, so those checking in after dark should have two-way radios and a good flashlight/lantern on hand when they arrive. We found this to be an excellent experience and we(me/61, her/51), will definitely stay here again, as we have not yet even seen nearly all this part of Az. has to offer, and this park is the spot for us! Decided on this park due to previous two reviews and we are very happy. Compared to the KOA it was so easy to drive to our site without all the obstacles. Nicest folk we've ever talked to on the phone or with at the front desk. Park is very neat and organized. Sites of all sizes even accomodating big rig with trailers behind. Even though heavy with pine trees we managed to find a Sat. signal. Comfortable space between rigs. Quiet. Nice little pool.
