I would have given this place a 10 if it were not for the wind, although it was not constant. Wonderful hiking, lovely information center, big sites. Water was good and close to sites. Dump station was very easily accessible. Spectacular views and clear skies. Some light pollution from Vegas. We stayed there 4 nights and it never filled, yet the host said that was their busy Easter weekend. Cost was $12 but they honor Senior pass for 50% off. The nearly 20 mile road from I-40 was in very good condition. Beyond the campground it was dirt and washboard. Too rough for our rig. We camped here in a Motorhome.
A beautiful spot to camp and hike but the high winds drove us out. Sustained winds were around 45 mph and may have gusted to 60. We spent two sleepless nights with the sound of the wind coming down the canyon, rocking our 32 foot Class C, and flapping the awnings on our slide-outs around. Even so, the campground is nicely laid out and many of the sites are pretty level. There were several RVs there and even some guys in a tent. Our toad caught a lot of gravel on the road in, even with the heavy duty and full-width mud flap at the rear of the RV, so take it slow. The ranger at the campground was excellent. Wish we had been there on a weekend to take advantage of the ranger programs. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We only stayed one night but the campground was quiet and all the sites were level. The bathrooms were clean. We hiked in the area and thought it was just wonderful. Would be great to stay longer next time. We camped here in a Tent.
This park is perfect for the camper willing to travel off the beaten path in order to experience spectacular night skies, interesting geology and desert scenery. Most of the camp sites are large enough for a large trailer and tow vehicle, or a motorhome and toad. There are picnic tables and fire rings at each site. Vault toilets and hand pump water are available not too distant from each camp site. This is a great place for family camping. We enjoyed watching a scout troop during our stay. We camped here in a Motorhome.
