We camp here every year and have been happy. There are some pull though sites too. They also have a museum on the way in. Interesting facts and other things about Shaver Lake. If you want to make summer reservations, make sure you do them asap when they open up in Dec. They book up fast, so you have to make them 6 months in advance if you are camping with a group of people. If you bring a computer, you can get an hour free internet everyday, or pay for more use. They also have cable TV. Clean campground too. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
PROS 1. we stayed in the full hookup area and were very happy. 2. Lots of trees, large spacious sites, 3. walk to the beach down a trail, about 1/4 mile CONS 1. you pay extra for everything: showers, dogs, kids 2. reservation system is horrible 3. It seems a lot of people with large scary dogs like to camp here. Our neighbors on the last day came with two large scary dogs, tied them to a tree and left them there. No one payed any attention to them, they were tied day and night. Barked at any passing dog day and night, including ours. The beach also had lots of scary dogs and we have a pit bull but the dogs I'm talking about were much scarier than our pit bull 4. dusty 5. uneven and lots of steep hills on the site We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Great location. Spacious sites and access to the lake. Good fishing and a nice store. It was pretty cold when we stayed so there were not a lot of people. I can imagine it being pretty crowded in the summer but I don't think it would be a problem. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
I have stayed at this park nearly every summer for the last 10 years. Our family loves the cleanliness of all the facilities, and for a private campground the relative spaciousness of the sites. The lake is refreshing and the boat dock and store well equipped and very convenient. What we dislike is the reservation system; it seems harder and harder every year to obtain any type of space let alone our favorite lakefront spots. This campground needs to get a clue and update their website for online reservations and/or at least phone reservations We camped here in a Tent Trailer.
This is our favorite place to camp. We visit here at least twice a year. The park and lake are beautiful, the sites are large, heavily wooded, well maintained, and private. The restrooms and showers are very nice. The staff is great. The website is great because you can view a photo of each campsite in the park and get an idea of how it looks. The only thing I would change is the reservation system. It would be nice if it were possible to choose and reserve online instead of only by faxing. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Just spent the first week of October at Camp Edison. What a wonderful campground. We stayed at one of the full hook-up sites and didn't have a problem. Cable connection was OK but not great. Weather was warm during the day and cool at night. We even got some snow by the end of the week. What a sight! The drive in the towed vehicle on the Kaiser Pass Road to Edison Lake had awesome scenery. Will definitely return. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We really liked it here and lucked out by getting the best spots in the park (we think). We had spots 226 and 227, very flat and large. We only had electric, but water was right across the way to fill up and we used a dump station on the way home. After all, that is why we have a self contained class c. I would recommend the Manzanita circle, particularly sites 225-228, 239-241, 245, and 216-218. I would not recommend the f/h sites, they are very close together and seem like they would be hard to maneuver big rigs. It is quite a haul up a steep grade to get to the campground but worth the drive. Very hard to find true RV camping in the mountains like at this place. Although the lake was low, we did fish and hike a bit and would come back to enjoy water sports. We camped here with our 2 and 4 year old and my parents who have a 35 ft Alfa. I only rate it an 8 out of 10 because they do seem to charge extra for every little thing. Even though it was $32/night, you could easily end up paying 40 something for extra people, vehicles, wifi, showers, etc. Would definitely go back though! We camped here in a Motorhome.
I loved all the trees and this was a wonderful park. We stayed in our motorhome the roads were a bit narrow, however it was like camping in Yellowstone. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We have stayed here once in the early spring. At that time of year the park is not crowded, and a nice spot to relax. For us, summertime would be like staying in a small city. Very few sites have a view of the lake and the ones that do come at a premium price. If you are a boating fan this is a good place to stay. If you want to relax or fish, head to Huntington or Wishon. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Stayed with three friends with 42' motorhomes. Sites were tight but we all got in. Wifi was available for a fee but the signal was weak; we were in a forest so to get a signal was surprising. There were a couple of sites on the lake that would fit a big rig as well. Friendly staff and they were around often. Had problems with stuff left out at night turn up missing. And the staff told everyone to put stuff away because of the problem. Nice trails for walking to lake. Marina a short distance away. Boat launching in the park. A very nice week stay in a family friendly and quiet campground. Very long climb to get to there from the valley and narrow roads as well. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is our favorite place to camp. Not only is it beautiful there, but the lake is warm too. You can bring your own watercraft or rent some there. You can take a short drive to a small Sequoia grove for a picnic, go to the powerhouses (some offer a tour) or drive up to Huntington Lake too. There is a small store that offers things that you might have left behind. The town of Shaver Lake is just around the bend as well. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This is a beautiful campground in the Sierra Mountains with abundant pine trees and beautiful large camp sites. It is about a 20 minute drive to Shaver Lake, where we usually spend a day or two each year. There is a great creek for swimming (it is cold) and fishing. The fish and game service stocks the creek with trout regularly during the summer months. We have camped here for many years, typically for a week near the beginning of August, and will continue to visit on a regular basis. In the past couple of years, the restrooms have been redone, and now nearly all in the area have flush toilets and faucets. Showers are available at the Dinkey Creek Store for a nominal fee. The store also has some supplies and ice. The downside, no hookups and water has to be hauled to your site. There are not enough water faucets in each loop and you may have to hall your water 100 or so feet as the only faucets are near the restrooms. I carry a 5 gallon water jug and a small collapsible dolly for this purpose. There is also no cell service in Dinkey, but pay phones are available at the store. There is cell service in Shaver Lake as well as restaurants and grocery stores. Overall, if you don't mind dry camping and you love the serenity of the mountains you can’t beat Dinkey Creek. We camped here in a Tent Trailer.
Beautiful park with large campsites with lots of mature trees in a mountainous area that may put a strain on some motorhomes. Nice creek for wading or fishing or near by Shaver Lake for all water sports.gets crowded on weekends. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is a great place if your okay with dry camping. Sites are very spacious and setting is gorgeous. The only reason it didn't get 10 stars was that the closest dump station is 15 miles away at Edison Campground. The river is wonderful for fishing and play. Very clean campground. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This was a beautiful park close to Shaver Lake. Most sites do not have a view of the lake but the lake was very close to all spots and the boat ramp was very close as well. It was off-season so the park was almost empty but the sites were well spread-out. Beautiful hikes all around. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Decent campground located on Shaver Lake. This lake is a haven for water sport enthusiasts so the campground is filled with a very energetic crowd. In fact they had so much energy that it was impossible to sleep some nights because of the late night parties. But this park is a very short walk to very nice beaches located in a cove of the lake. That proved to make up for the constant chaos that the campground was filled with. The lake itself is wonderful and I am sure that when it's not the peak of summer, the campground is much quieter too. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This was a convenient park to stay in while exploring the Shaver Lake area. The sites are all dirt so you need to watch the dust and bring mats. You can walk into town or to the shore of Shaver Lake. No amenities (cable or Wi-Fi) since it is mostly long term residents or folks who leave their RVs and come up on weekends. We got cell but no Wi-Fi. Nice friendly managers. It's impossible to get into Camp Edison as they book a year out. This worked well for short notice. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
I loved this park. Large wide spaces and it feels and looks like a park and not a RV park. They are terraced so you have a lot of privacy. All of the sites had been raked and have clean fire pits. It's quite a drive but worth the beauty of the area. Close to two lakes. Courtwright reservoir is about 30 minutes and is breathtaking with granite all around it. No cell phone or cable but you can use a satellite dish in most sites. Great trout fishing in both Wishon and Courtwright. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Very interesting drive to reach this campground from the Fresno area because of the elevation (6800') and the serpentine roads on the last 60 miles, but particularly the last 17 miles. Driving slowly and defensively a must but worth the rewards of the area. Hiking, fishing and exploring are readily available. Could be very crowded in the Summer. Sites are generous and gravel covered. A more rustic feel to this campground. No cell or Wi-Fi. Would definitely return. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This is one of the best campgrounds we've stayed at. The area is fantastic. Waterfalls all around the lake. Do yourself a favor and rent a boat to drive around the lake. Also check out Courtright Reservoir about 30 minutes up the road. The scenery is incredible. The RV sites are some of the largest we've seen in a campground. Would have given it a 10 if it had cable hookups. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
I would have rated this site higher, but for the lack of cable TV hookups. With a toddler, we get used to having cartoons and the local TV reception is almost nil. We aren't full-timers, so satellite is a hassle. Other than that, it is a clean, quite, peaceful park. The store is well-stocked with friendly service. There was a men's retreat happening while we were there, and aside from hearing there sound system during the day, their activities did not get in the way of our enjoyment, which is a tribute to the camp setup and management. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Great campground helpful staff. We stayed here to travel to surrounding areas Yosemite, etc. Long commutes because of winding roads. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
We have stayed twice at this location. It has big spaces and is quiet. We got into a problem with a reservation over Memorial Day weekend. We drove within 10 miles of the RV park when we got into snow. I was afraid I would get stuck, so we turned around. We arrived home three hours later and I called and canceled. Since it was a holiday they kept one day fee and $10.00. They allowed us to reschedule the other two days during the week. We accepted and went a few weeks later. The park is clean and the people there were very friendly. We would definitely go back. The elevation is about 6800 feet. A lot of the sites don't have a lot of trees so be sure to have something for extra shade during the summer afternoons. There is no TV hookup or newspapers. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
What a fabulous park. Absolutely beautiful. We camped here the first week of May, and there were only 2 trailers in the park. Still had snow on the ground. Big spaces. Would have given it a 10 if it had cable TV and recycle bins. (I know logistically speaking this may not be possible given the isolated location.) We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
We stayed in this park every weekend of the summer. We like sites 1-24. Sites 25-97 are a bit more crowded, and the smoke from the night fires tends to linger. I believe sites 38-48 are 50 amp. Some sites have steep approaches and tight corners. The park rents small fishing boats and a couple of pontoon boats. Wishon Reservoir is a 15 mph lake so it is very quiet. The park is at 6700 feet and the night sky is magnificent. There are many hiking trails and 4 WD off road trails to explore. Plan on it taking 30-40 minutes to cover the 15 miles after turning onto McKinley Grove Road. It is a winding mountain road with 20-30 mph curves. We plan for two hours from Fresno by car, and about two and one half hours by RV. We camped here in a Motorhome.
From check in to check out everyone was very friendly, even the dock man was great with the children and loading the boats. The campground has huge spaces with trees and at least half day shade. We really enjoyed the amount of space each site was given! The roads around the campground were a little narrow, making getting in and out of our spot a little more difficult than normal. The lake is a mile away and has great boat fishing and limited shore fishing. The store was well stocked and reasonably priced. A great place to spend a relaxing week, even with the kids! We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
We visited this camp ground on a hunting trip, very quit and peaceful. Very few people around during this part of the year. The store had very little to offer also do to the end of the season and getting close to closing for the winter. Mangers where very helpful with any questions. Camp sites are very big and roomy with tables and fire rings. Would add that there is no C-phone service but a pay phone near the office/store, be advise that long distance and collect call charges are outrageously high. $35.00 for a 4 min. call. Would return again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
High up in the big pines, nice people at the store where you check in. Extra for pets and
two or more people. If your going to use your satellite dish, make sure you ask for southern exposure, lots of trees. Very tight to maneuver big rigs, all site are back in. Fishing not far away by car at Wishon Reservoirs. Lots of jeep trails and hiking trails. We camped here in a Motorhome.
