KOA used to mean some degree of quality. This park is terrible. The owners have not spent any money on upkeep or improvements. Many sewer connections are buried or 16 inches high, pads cracked, cable is poor and they haven't planted a tree, shrub or flower in 30 years. The picnic tables are falling apart, fire ants are everywhere, no shade and the water view is of a retention pond. At $35 a night, it is relatively cheap, but it is over priced for what you get. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

We called ahead to reserve a site and were not told that there was no usable water and the hot tub was broken (which was part of the reason we picked that park). We paid for a night, set up camp and called back to say we would stay a week. They advised they would give us the week rate however when we went to pay she "couldn't go back on the computer" so we paid the daily rate. The lakes are small lagoons. Most of the exercise equipment was broken and actually dangerous. We paid $17.00 a week for Tengo. Fire ants, no see ems black flies - one couldn't sit outside. We spoke to the GM who said he would "do something" but did nothing. You could not be without a car as everything was so far away. Not a good pick. Kudos however to the friendly maintenance staff. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

We read the comments from other customers of this campground and decided to check it out in person before making a choice. This park is unique because it's both a KOA and a Encore property. Our rate reflects the Encore rate because it's a better deal if you stay more than a few nights. Pine Island Resort is an older park with many park models but everyone is extremely friendly and helpful. It does have lots of seniors but they are very young at heart and love to have a good time. The new managers are improving the property with the support of the the general manager who was on site often. Everything was well maintained or in the process of being improved. If there was a problem the front office took care of it immediately. They don't have pull throughs but the staff will help you drop your trailer, car or whatever and store it free of charge if you are staying for a while. Pine Island is a little slice of "OLD Florida" and a treat. The only thing that is tricky is the bridge to Pine Island which is narrow and under construction. We stayed at the resort for 2 months in a motorhome and plan on staying again. The people were just lovely. Also, much of the island is a preserve and they don't spray for flying bugs like on the mainland. There are "no see ums" at night and you do have to spray for them. We camped here in a Motorhome.
