Privately owned, close to nature, far from town, no amenities like LP(that stopped in 06 and trucks not allowed in except for park models)...they okay pets, but keep changing minds about how many (only two allowed maybe, maybe not depends on owner's mood)...they keep waffling about everything, sheds, hookups, lots, you name it...electric on, off, in summer mostly off...no concrete pads to speak of so it floods a lot, mega-flooding. No wifi, store at front has 2-year-old cans of soup...just not my idea of customer care. Prices up, amenities down. Sad. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Nice campground not too crowded during the winter rush. We were able to get last-minute reservations despite the late-February booking. The front half of the park appears to be permanent snow-birds; the back half for nightly and weekly travelers. The sites are very large, all grass with significant distance between neighboring sites. TV, even without cable, and cell reception were both excellent. There are lots of birds and plenty of opportunities to be up-close. It's close to Tampa (~30 minutes w/o traffic) and close to freeways but not so close that there's any noise. The only complaint was that access to the dumpsters was inconvenient. I would definitely stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.

No concrete pads. Pray for no rain, as this park floods bad! Too many dirty trees. Very old time camping experience. Too far from shopping, doctors, etc. - in the middle of nowhere. Surrounding area seedy. Old park, mostly old park models which have not been kept up. Nice pool. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

We have been seasonal campers here at Happy Traveler for 7 years and have seen many positive changes in the park. It is conveniently located to everything: shopping, doctors, nature parks, amusement parks, and museums. The staff is very friendly and courteous and the campers are also. There are multiple activities to be involved with and/or participate in, even if only a short-time camper. We do not, or would not hesitate to recommend Happy Traveler RV Park to anyone. We camped here in a Motorhome.

I have stayed here before and we were not too pleased. We returned this year and the park is under new management who have done some wonderful updates and are busy with many more. The management and staff are very friendly and helpful. What we love about this park is the close proximity to the I-75 (no interstate traffic noise) which enables you to be able to access everywhere in Tampa Bay so easily.(including Busch Gardens, Moffitt Cancer Center and the VA Hospital). There is a Winn Dixie supermarket right next door and the Big Top Flea Market is across the street. This park also has great huge Oak trees which are a blessing under the hot Florida sun. We did notice that there are only a couple of pull through sites and because of that plus the fact that most sites do not have cable TV, is the reason why I did not give Happy Traveler a higher rating. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Park is an older one, but staff and fellow campers were very helpful and nice. Dog friendly. Park is nice and quiet, site was fairly level, and wide enough for our slide and awning. We didn't participate in park activities, park is deceivingly big. Would stay here again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

We just finished an eight day stay at this park and had a great time! This State Park has the biggest pool I have ever seen in my life, and given our summers here in Florida, it was a delight! For those into hiking, there is no limit to how many miles you can put in on the various trails, with the longest being just under 12 miles on the Ft. King trail. It should be noted however, that during the rainy season, like now, portions of some trails can be flooded and you might get your feet wet. When all else fails, the loop road around the park is paved and makes an excellent walk of about two miles. Go early in the morning or late in the evening and you will see quite a few deer, and if you are quiet, a bobcat or two. There is a restaurant/snack bar located at the pool, and both are open from 9am to 5pm seven days a week. They are about a five minute walk from the campground loops should you choose not to drive. Restrooms are dated but well maintained, and the Park Rangers and Hosts are courteous and helpful. I was not in all the restrooms, but in ours in Loop 1 we did not have a separate changing area outside of the shower stall. The restrooms are cleaned frequently throughout the day. I should also note that even on the weekends the park is full but quiet and pleasant. This is one of the quietest state parks we have stayed at, and you are not sitting on top of your neighbor. Almost all the sites we saw were in full or partial shade. This was our first time staying here, and I picked site 105 as it looked to suit our needs for two vehicles and 27’ TT. I was not disappointed as the site is big. Now is when I should point out the difference between loop 1 and the other camping loops. Loop 1 is by far the wettest if there has been a lot of rain, and as luck would have it, site 105 is the worst of all. After two multi-hour downpours on back to back days, we had 6 inches of water at our camper steps, and it took two days to dry out. Actually, it took two days for the water to go down and give us somewhat firm mud. This, by the way, is not mentioned on the camp website. We didn’t let it interfere with our fun and simply used a combo of the camper steps, step stools, and the eight foot picnic table to reach firm ground. In defense of the park, they offered to let us move, but because of bookings, it would have required two moves during our stay, and I didn’t want to deal with that. The water in no way hampered the enjoyment of our stay, but for some this I am sure would not be acceptable. Campers offered to pull us out when we left since the space between the loop road and the front of the camper was ten inches deep in mud. I thanked them but assured them the Suburban would pull it out just fine, and it did. We won’t discuss the ruts we left, but the park was going to bring in a tractor and work on it. Enough of that; now I want to mention insect repellent. Bring it! If you plan on hiking the trails or a trip on the river you will have to have it. Being a Florida boy I can tell you not to be fooled if you come to the park during the dryer winter months because there will still be mosquitoes, just a few less, trust me on this one. If you like campfires, the Ranger Station sells excellent wood for seven dollars a bundle. The camp store probably has the most limited selection of items of any park I have stayed at so pack carefully and make sure you bring what you need. If not, you will have to drive a while to get to a grocery store. In addition, this is not a tourist area so the attraction is the park and river. There are not touristy things to do outside of the park. You can rent kayaks and canoes at the store but I have to say they are priced way out of line. For example; A one person kayak (which is the only yak they rent), is fifteen dollars an hour! If you have your own, bring them if possible. Canoes are a bit more reasonable, are two-person, and the better bargain. It just seemed rather odd that I could rent a two-person kayak for the day, at Sugarloaf Key in the Florida Keys, cheaper than in a Florida State Park? You can also rent bikes, surreys, and so forth. Last but not least, the pool is four dollars per person unless you are camping, and then it is included. This does not include a chair with umbrella which has to be rented. There are limited free chairs, and you can always bring your own. I was also surprised that by just raising our batwing antenna, we were able to receive a multitude of digital channels. All-in-all we had a great trip, and if nature is what you are seeking like we were, you can’t go wrong. I do suggest avoiding loop 1 if possible during the summer and 105 altogether. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

We had site #109. This was our 5th stay in this park.Do not believe RA when they say it will fit a 35 ft anything. This is a site for popups and tents and very small RV's. We had to caddy corner ourselves in this site as there were no others to move to on a holiday weekend. Site was very unlevel as well. We had a picnic table and combo grill, with water and electric. Barely any TV due to many trees. Our mi-fi didn't always work probably due to the distance away from town. Pool has been remodeled and is nice but there are only 10 chairs unless you rent one. The store has gone downhill, now only carries very basic necessities. No more griddles in the table for the make your own pancakes. No free guided canoe trip on Thursdays. But you can rent surreys and golf carts at store. They were way overpriced though. There is a Fort tour on weekends for $2 pp. And the tram comes around on Friday nights for a tour of the loop around the park. On Saturday nights they give a ranger program in park. Dump station is up a hill so be careful when using it. Made it hard to hook up car. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Nice place to stay for a few days of hiking, canoeing and just to relax. Some sites are not level and in the area of site 12 is a very narrow turn with a tree. The tree has the scars to prove its done battle with many a travel trailer and motorhome. We were in site 12 and because of the turn and tree, it was difficult to get the trailer into the site. The web site says its 35 foot deep: good luck getting something that long into the spot. We had a 30 foot unit and its was tons of fun to get it backed into the site. Staff was very nice and friendly. We would stay here again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

When we arrived and checked in, they had an usher lead us to our camp site. Once I was backed in they even provided blocking and leveling of our travel trailer. If we needed any wheel blocks they would have provided them also. The RV park was wonderful. Shady, very quite and very clean. We have raised three children, and we now have a grandchild, but we didn't see or hear any children during the four days my wife and I were there. Most of the folks are there from December through April, have been staying there for several years, and even have their same slots they have always had. Then go back up North to their homes for the summer. We plan on making Southern Aire RV Park, one of annual stops also. Great place. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Easily the worst experience we have ever had at an RV Park. Made reservations in advance and on day of our arrival they called us at 3pm (we were set to arrive about 6) and said we had 1 hour to get there or they would not park us... no kidding. They eventually conceded and let us "hook up" in their parking lot over night and then guided us in the next morning. When we awoke the main water main had been shutoff for repairs. Water was off all day and then when it came back on we were notified that it was probably contaminated with bacteria and we should boil it before using for 3-4 days. Contacted the office and explained the implications of pumping bad water through our fresh water system and asked if they would compensate us to disinfect the system; As you can guess they had no idea what we were referring to. Anyways we demanded a refund and got the heck out of there the next morning. Every "pro" on their website is false. The roads are not wide and are crumbling, spots are all back-ins, and there are low hanging trees. Mostly a bunch of grumpy seniors running around in golf carts. Enter at your own risk. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

This campground is close to Busch Gardens. I thought that our site was quiet and large enough to accommodate a big rig. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. Initially, we were given a pull-through next to 4 dumpsters but we were easily relocated at our request. Overall, the campground is older. Facilities were clean but worn down and some in need of repair. Most of the sites seemed to be permanents with many snow birds occupying them. All our neighbors were friendly, even with our noisy kids. Despite my complaints I would definitely stay here again. I loved the Spanish moss and the trees. Plenty of room for my kids to safely ride bikes and play. A couple of scenic ponds. We will return when we come back to Busch Gardens. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Rate based on a weekly half off special. This was no bargain for comfort. Road noise and overall park noise. Mostly permanent sites with an entire 'neighborhood' out back. Almost all units unkempt. My site had no pad, but was level and right next to a major state route. Slept with earplugs. Roads have speed bumps. Staff was very pleasant. I would not stay here again and left early. Scenery was beautiful with spanish moss draping very stately trees, but that's about all this park has going for it. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Older park, therefore sites were tight and roads were very narrow. Large RVs be aware. Cable available for long term only. Most sites were shaded, and some sites were very shaded, so getting satellite was tricky. Did not visit pool, restrooms or showers. Park employees and residents were very nice! Price reflects PA rate. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
