The lady who checked us was mildly unpleasant. The park is very untidy and appears to double as a residential area for for many lower class individuals. It was quiet at night and we were not disturbed. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Couldn't disagree more about the park being clean. This was a very unkempt facility. Many of the permament site very messy and not cared for at all. If you like golf carts, this is the palace to go 'cause cart after cart made the rounds at all hours of the day and night. The sites were big and fairly roomy but this was not enough for me or my family to return to this campground We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

The park itself was nice, well kept. The bathrooms needed more attention The pool was nice, and had a lifeguard. Help was friendly. The best shaded area is in the Outback. Sites were sizeable. There are a lot of seasonal/park homes. We enjoyed our stay. We camped here in a Motorhome.

We waited 10 minutes for the "check in" phone to respond when we entered because the number to call was busy. From the entrance our site was about 1/2 mile away and the gravel roads are TERRIBLE. You might be able to do 5mph due to many many pot holes. We found no pull throughs and most sites we saw were grass and some very large so you could manage to pull through. Due to lots of recent rain we were told to stay on one of 5 or 6 back in gravel sites to avoid getting stuck. We had to be careful where we walked due to mud. There are many long term residents and several of their sites didn't look well kept. We were attracted to the CG due to it's being an AOR park for $9 plus $3 reservation fee. Doubt we'll return. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

We fell in love with this campground. It does have gravel roads, but they were smooth and not dusty if you went the speed limit. The site were grass (not the cement city we've seen before) and huge, the restrooms were clean and had plenty of hot water. The swimming pool was clean and every thing was working (the kids loved it). The store was not open when we went to it, but there was a sign telling us to use the free phone to call a number to have some one come to take care of us and low and behold with in 5 minutes someone was there and took care of us. The only thing that was confusing to us was the place is huge, but once we got a site map we were fine. We camped here in a Tent.

I have read the prior reviews and cannot believe they are from actual campers. Yes the campground has gravel roads, but well maintained, though dusty if you speed. Buildings area all well maintained, and freshly painted, bathrooms were clean and functional. We came in early Friday and while no one at gate or welcome center, there is a sign the clearly gives instruction on the use of the free phone and cell number to call staff. We used the phone and the staff responded quickly and were friendly. Bathrooms were clean with plenty of hot water, playground equipment while not new or modern well maintained and functional, no kids so we did not use. We discovered over a hundred vacant wooded acres to hike with our dog and loved the place. Also, in talking to seasonal campers found out fight going on with contiguous RV subdivision and the developer so bad reviews are probably from them. Lastly, I went to their web site and watched their video stream, when at the campground, found it accurate and not doctored. Do your own review before discounting this hidden gem. The previous reviews are so on target. It felt like being in the twilight zone. We found this resort online. The description said it had a special 4 days/3 night rate of $59. We pulled up to the gate and the place looked deserted. We drove our van around to check out the place. The welcome center and other buildings were very run down. We saw no one around. We couldn't find any campsites. We felt so uneasy we turned our coach around and left. We would never recommend this place to anyone. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Well I just wanted to update this campground and again say "resort" the road has had the pot holes filled in and the pool is full but other than that this places is substandard. The swimming pond did not look nice enough to let my dog swim in it and the playground equipment looked like left over from a Steven King movie. I was told by a local that this place is great to party on the weekends for underage kids on "the hill" which is the center of the day camping with no shade in any direction. I drove out as well and saw enough to leave as fast as I could. We camped here in a Motorhome.

I live about 45 Min. from this "Resort" I decided to take a drive out and check it out before making reservations to stay for a weekend. Thank GOD I did! Anything I would type about it would just repeat what the other reviews have said. I would not stay here. It looks like the "resort" is a thing of the past. The place is like a ghost town, the swim pond is nothing but algae and weeds. There was no one around that looked like they were actually "running" the park. The office and guard shack and store/trading post were all closed and dilapidated and looked like they had not been used in years. I tried to drive to the rear of the "resort" to check out the overnight sites, but the road was so bad that fearing for the alignment of my Van, I finally just gave up. Do yourself a favor, find a different place to go. This place is a thing of the past. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

I don't normally post bad reviews, but this campground should be avoided. I read the other reviews and they are correct. The road into the campground is awful. It took us about 4 minutes to go a quarter of a mile. There is a Welcome Center that is vacant, and a guard shack that has a phone for you to call to tell someone you have arrived. We only found this out by choosing the wrong road and being told by a permanent camper that we were in the wrong place. There are no signs to help you. The pool was under construction. The swimming lake is small and I would never swim in it. The two playgrounds we saw were very old, missing swings and rusted. The area is heavily forested, but the sites that are for day campers are cleared of trees so there is no shade. The campground was so rundown and in poor condition that we asked for a refund. Be aware that when I asked for a refund, the cashier had to call the owner because as she put it "he doesn't normally give refunds". We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

The roads are nothing but pot holes and dust and the workers are not friendly and when I was there was was vandalism and a lot of under age drinkers. Also I did not see any security anywhere and if there was it was workers, and I noticed they were drinking. Now I don't think if they are being paid to watch the park they should be drinking, and I would say it's not for kids. I will never go back there. Their web page is nothing but a bunch of lies. They don't rent golf karts or horses and from what I seen in there they are nothing but a bunch of party animals. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This is a membership park (we stayed under AOR)that has a few RV sites. It covers a large area but is mostly a ownership park with park models. There are only 6 full hookup sites and only 2 of them were 50 amp. The road through the park to get to the RV area is 1.25 miles of horrible dirt roads. The road is solid potholes (actually more like craters) - the worst we have ever seen. This park is very, very run down. The office was not open during the week. We had to call to advise we were there & then someone came around and collected the money. None of the amenities that the book said they had existed, with the exception of the pool. The pool was not real clean and the chairs were all broken. The water in the showers was not even lukewarm, not to mention dirty. We had to ask the management to mow around the RV sites. The rest of the park had been mowed. We were here for 10 days only because we had met another couple here. It is by far the worst RV park we have stayed at in our 2.5 years of full timing. The only plus was that we were in site M3 which had 50 amp. The full hookup sites were very close together and not all 6 would accommodate a large rig. I would not camp here again! Very nice, clean state park. Peaceful and quiet. Loved watching the barges on the river. Park hosts were friendly and watchful of the surroundings. Bring your own water though...it tastes/smells HORRIBLE here. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

We camped for 14 days in the electric area to the East of the bridge on site 25 for one day moving to site 27 for the remainder. Some of the sites are VERY close to each other and all the electrical is old. The 30A breaker at site 25 could not carry our loads while the one at site 27 could. We agreed with the rules for the campground but, they are not enforced. Multiple boats/cars on a site is common - especially on the weekend. Likewise, multiple families on a site with vehicles parked on multiple sites. The water has a rotten egg smell likely caused by sulfur. If you stay long enough to require a refill of your fresh tank, be sure to use an odor and sediment filter before it goes in. The shade is very nice. Trees everywhere. The river view is beautiful with lots of boaters, jet skis, barges, and wildlife. The sites are relatively level but, with rain they do tend to pond a bit. We were under a flood watch, but the river was never a problem. I would stay here again, but only during the week to avoid the crowds. It's much quieter during the week. This is our "home" campground. We store the RV near here and camp here 3-4 times a year, always in the main loop on the east side. Watching the barges on the canal is nice. It's a pleasant small park for a weekend getaway. If you're travelling through it's about 3-4 miles off I-80 and in my opinion is preferable to the local private campgrounds. The dump station is easy to access and water fill-up is available near the camp host sites. Gas in Marseilles is consistently cheaper than the Chicago area. The last 2006 post which gave a "3" rating must have been about one of the private campgrounds as there is no pool here. We camped here in a Motorhome.

All even number sites are reservable in the front part of park. Back of park is first come first serve. Sites are good size and will fit larger RVs. There need to be some upgrades done in this park. When it rains sites become water logged because of lack of gravel. Restroom were still closed when we visited. You can get a nice view of the river to watch boats and barges go by. Would return again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Stopped here for the night on the way home. I80 traffic won't be a problem as this well off the road with several turns to get there. I asked for shade and I got it. Clear in the back (outback they call it) and past some pretty shabby looking places. I asked the guy that parked me if maybe they had something near the front close to the pool. He told me I wouldn't want any of those sites because they were pretty uneven. Said he tried to get "them" to let him fix them but shrugged his shoulders. I took where I was and had to unhook just to drive back to the pool. Thats when we noticed several pretty nice looking shaded lots just down from the pool the other direction. Lady in the office said she was sorry when I explained it to her. Lots of seasonal units here and some that had been at one time. The pool was pretty nice. I would pass on this place next time. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This could be a beautiful park, if kept better. It needs more gravel in the sites. When it rains your sites will fill with water. There are 3 separate campgrounds. One you can see the river and the other 2 have no river view. They have a couple of host on duty daily. The shower house only consist of 2 showers which is not fesible for that many campers. On busy weekends be prepared to wait in line and it closes at 10:00 am for cleaning. You can see the barges, and boaters if you are by the water and it is a nice view. There is also one campground cabin that you can rent also and it has a view of the river. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

This state park is located on the south bank of the Illinois River, by a dam adjacent to the rapids. There is a barge canal in part of the river, and you can watch barges going through the waterway. The sites are spacious and shady. We stayed in the Great Falls campground, right on the river. There is also a Whitetail campground a little further west in the park in a forest, but it has no river views. The town of Marseilles is just across the bridge, and it has a small grocery and a few gift and antique shops. The I & M Canal state trail also goes through the town for biking or hiking. The campground restrooms were o.k., clean, but could stand some updating. This campground is about 60 miles southwest of Chicago, off I-80. It's a nice place to camp. We will return here.
