We stayed at the Illinois State Fair Campground for one night. We called a week or so before and made a reservation but it wasn't necessary as this park only seems to be busy during the State Fair. We arrived after the office had closed, but there is a clear sign on the door with a number for security - we called them and within a few minutes, someone was with us, took the payment, gave us a receipt and set us up with power. This park is in a great location for Springfield and the sights. There is a bus (SMTD) which departs from the corner of Sangamon and 8th to downtown (it also links with the tourist Historic Sites route). We didn't use the restrooms or showers but the sites were well kept and we felt very secure. This is mostly a tarmac ground with a few trees - I wouldn't want to stay here for a long time but it was in a fantastic location for our sightseeing trips. Mostly tourists - very few 'residential' looking RVs. We'd certainly use this park again if we were visiting Springfield, IL. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Good place to stay for a few days to visit the Lincoln sites around Springfield. Take the Campground Host recommendations on local attractions. They are very happy to help and suggest what to see and the best times to go. Full hook up sites in the grass on on the asphalt. The area lighting on the asphalt sites are very bright. Wi-Fi is strong. No road noise. If a Sunday or Monday arrival contact the Fairgrounds security, number on office door, to register and have the electric box unlocked. We would stay here again without hesitation. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Mostly a basic fairgrounds parking lot with hookups but there are many grass and shaded sites as well. The on-site managers are as friendly and helpful as we have ever encountered. Restrooms were squeaky clean and the Wi-Fi was screaming fast. Well lit and very safe feeling. Very convenient to all local attractions. Be sure to ask about the senior rate. We would definitely stay here again when in the area. We camped here in a Motorhome.

An adequate park for those wanting to explore Lincoln land, mostly given over to seasonal pipeline workers. The guy next to us had his car hood up and his gas tank removed all day. The park needs an overall cleanup/raking. Bath house was old and dark, but clean and functional. CATV excellent. We camped here in a Motorhome.

If you are considering camping here, read the other reviews carefully, especially the one from May 2011. The area has lots of large trees, but many sites are in the open with no shade, and with cramped quarters. Several areas are closed. One bathroom has no shower. Most of the full hookup sites are taken by seasonal/ full time rigs. The host is friendly but does not tell you which sites are taken. Many sewers are hidden by grass. The City charges the same amount for full h/up as w/e only, and the rate is up to $25. There must be somewhere better. We had planned on camping in Lincoln but wanted to get a bit further. We should have stopped, their w/e is only $15 with PA. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

An older park but well maintained. Sites are small and the hookups may be 20' from the vehicle spot (can't call the chip seal drive a pad). Only stayed 1night so we didn't look around much. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Friendly & helpful host greeted us upon arrival. Park was quiet, uncrowded, & well maintained except for the potholes in the gravel access road. This park is very well situated to visit the Lincoln and other sites in Springfield. We would definitely stay here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Once we got off the main road (East Lake Drive). the other ones to the campground were not good and in need of paving. The Wi-Fi, which was free, wasn't very good and kept knocking me off. I was able to download e-mails but not much else. Very frustrating. Otherwise there was no problem for an overnight stay. There aren't many RV parks in the Springfield area. This was recommended over another one we considered. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This is an older KOA and is difficult to find: more signage needed, in our opinion. It is definitely way out in the country! The upside: little to no road noise (and surprisingly not much train noise either). The downside: small roads on the way in. A few sites will accommodate longer rigs: check with the campground first. A few seasonals, but they weren't loaded with junk & stuff in their sites. Bathrooms were clean but smelled a little mildewy. Friendly staff. Good for an overnighter, a weekend, or a base camp for visiting Springfield & historic sites. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
