Check-in very smooth. Friendly campground host. Sites VERY tight! Mostly level pads. $5.00 key deposit for shower/restrooms, refundable upon check-out. Clean but peeling paint. Ok for shower, plenty of pressure and hot water. Additional fee for Wi-Fi. $1day/$5week. Signal for Wi-Fi did not reach site, but short walk to Gazebo for excellent signal. Campground was at capacity during our stay. With that getting into some spots could prove to be difficult with awnings. The views of the river are second to none. Watching the river traffic was a great way to relax from our trip into Downtown Madison. Just a short drive away. We would stay here again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
The rating is based on the view and surrounding beauty - Madison is a great little town. CG sites are narrow, back-in only (not pull-throughs listed on RVParkReviews), electrical and water (you will need long hoses), and there is a dump station. Paved site to park on; slight inclines. Bathrooms are older with peeling paint but okay for a shower. Host is very helpful. If you are energetic, you can walk into town. Vaughn Street is blocked due to construction on the bridge so you will need to drive on 56 to the far east side of town (past the bridge) and then turn right on Ferry St. The CG is at the bottom of the hill, on the left, next to the river. We would definitely camp here again. FYI: there is a good laundry facility on Main St, west end of town. We camped here in a Tent Trailer.
This is a little gem on the Ohio River. Would be a 10 if it had full hook up. Host extremely friendly and helpful. Great area with small town atmosphere. Good restaurants very close by. Relaxing watching river traffic. There is some question about being open next year due to new bridge construction. Supposedly is going to be done over the winter. Hope this park doesn't go away. Needs a little upgrading, but the views and town make up for it. Will definitely be back again! We camped here in a Motorhome.
Main reason for writing is: This park will NOT, repeat NOT, be open in 2011, because it will become the staging area for the ferry which will operate while the bridge, right next to this park, is being enlarged. It will take at least 18 months to complete that project. At this time, it is not known if this park will reopen after that. I suggest calling just in case things change. We camped here in a Motorhome.
What a spot on the river!!!! Watching the barges with a view of the bridge at night with a huge campfire was a great way to end our 3.5 month southern trip. The town is so full of history and incredible architecture, outstanding!!! Of course, we'd like cable TV and Wi-Fi, but the aesthetics blew us away and we didn't need the techy stuff. We'll stop here every year on our way back to MI. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We had a nice campsite right on the Ohio River. We were here with only 7 or 8 other campers. Things might get pretty tight if the campground is full, as camp sites are close together. Eighteen sites are right on the banks of the Ohio River, where we could sit and watch barges go by. The campground is pretty quiet for an urban setting. The bathrooms are so old, it is hard to tell whether or not they were clean. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
A great place to camp if you like the River. There are 18 riverfont sites that are clean, level ,paved sites with mature trees. The owners/Managers are extremely nice and very helpful. It's always a pleasure to stay here. I visit at least once a year. Madison itself is a very neat town with lots of stores and restaurants. North Madison has the big stores such as Walmart, etc. , but the old town is preserved to historical value. I plan to stay again, and again. My Teardrop camper is always a conversation piece. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Very nice, but small campground, it is kept nice and clean, has 18 sites right on the Ohio River. There are mature trees, fire rings, shower house/restrooms, most sites are nice and level. They do have a dump station. There is nothing to do here on the campground property (pool, mini golf, etc.), but the town of Madison has a nice big pool near the campground, as well as shopping and sightseeing in Madison. There's also a few nice wineries, and great restaurants, be sure to try out the Key West Shrimp House. The owner is super nice! Also check out Clifty Falls State Park nearby Madison. The river-front sites are very pretty! We enjoyed having a campfire and sitting in our lawnchairs watching the boats and barges. Keep in mind that no tents are allowed. This is a great place to camp in your RV, very relaxing and quiet. We've stayed here twice, and will return. The campgrounds are open from April 1st through October 31st but you should call ahead of time to make a reservation, or to see if there are sites available since this is a small campground. Especially during holidays and Regatta week (boat races) or during festivals, so definitely call ahead! I do know that payment is required in full at the time of reservation. We rented a pontoon boat one of the days we were here, from a marina down the road. That was fun, and they also rent other boats and jet-ski's. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Roomy sites. Liked #'s 98 & 99, large, level pull-throughs with shade. Showers a bit dated, but clean. Awesome hiking with beautiful waterfalls. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Excellent experience. Park has a restaurant that is fine. Close to Madison. Also close (30 miles) to Butler State Park, Carrolton, KY. But check for Ohio River bridge (rt 421) outage summer 2012. We camped here in a Truck Camper.
Excellent park. Very, very large sites. They could easily double the occupancy by splitting the sites but I hope they don't. All sites are mostly level. Nice hiking in the park. Very close to downtown Madison which is a neat river town. This is great park. Only reason I didn't give it a 10 is for no water hook-ups, but there are stil plenty of places to get water. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Campground and campsites are RV friendly and generally level. A good mix of sun and shade for sites. Showerhouses are dated but generally maintained well (modern showerhouse is located in primitive section of campground). Beautiful hiking and historic downtown Madison in the area. The drive aisles were freshly paved, so biking in the campground for children was enjoyable. Playground was okay. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Very good Autumn camping! Access to Clifty Falls trails is a 5-minute walk. A 20-minute walk gets you to Clifty Falls Inn, which has a restaurant and spectacular views of the Ohio River. Sites are electric only, well spaced, and easy to park. The bathhouse was closed in November, but a potable water faucet is available at the check-in station. Campers were friendly & quiet at nighttime. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is a very nice State Park. The road is winding to the campground but we didn't have a problem with a 39' coach and Suburban toad. The park staff is friendly and helpful. The sites don't offer any 50 amp or sewer but it's worth getting by without. It was not too crowded during the week but the weekend was packed. The sites are fairly large though and you are not on top of each other. There were a lot of kids but the noise was not unruly. Easy access to the nice little city of Madison. We will return for sure. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We stayed at campsite #29. It is full sun, but the location was good for us. The site was very unlevel and was mostly on grass. Make sure that you visit the pool. It has an incredible beach type entrance, water slide and diving board at the 12 foot end. Nice playground and the restrooms were fine. The staff was friendly and the camp store was adequate. Madison is just a few miles up the road if you need extra supplies. My only complaint is that they have a raccoon problem at night. The raccoons are obviously used to humans and walk right up to you to beg for food. I kept chasing them away but every few minutes more would come out of the brush. The kids were getting scared because they were so bold. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Pretty park with large sites and lots of trails and picnic areas. Restrooms were OK, but showers could use some updating. Park staff/hosts were very friendly, but other campers were noisy at times. Town of Madison is wonderful--lots of historic buildings and nice riverfront. All and all, would stay here again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Many sites need quite a bit more gravel for the parking pad. It was raining when we were here and out TT was sinking into our site due to lack of gravel. Nice location, CG just needs a little more upkeep to make it nicer. Not sure if we will return here. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This is a nice state campground. The sites could use a little more work, but over all it is a nice area that has good hiking with lots to do. The park lodge is very nice and has good food on their buffet. It would also be a nice place to stay. The park is very kid and pet friendly. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
The available showers are completely inadequate for the size of campground, so plan to shower at off peak times. The park is gorgeous and the campground is one of the better layed out ones. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Nice and spacious campsites. We were on site 62. Restrooms were clean but shower areas could use some updating. Plenty of hot water. The water fill-up areas are attached to the restrooms but can be difficult to see at night. The DNR staff was fair. We camp at other Indiana State Parks and the staff at Clifty Falls were not as friendly as other state parks. The Campground Hosts (do not know their names) were excellent. Looks like they are getting to re-open the camp store. The trails are super! Very well marked and provide a spectacular view of the falls. The Nightly Rate is average daily rate for 6 nights (Sat-Thur.) We camped here in a Tent Trailer.
We really enjoyed this park. The campground doesn't have water hook up but there are water faucets placed throughout the park so it wasn't a problem. We just filled up our 7 gallon portable tank and it was fine. We had site number 66 and loved it. Lots of grassy areas for the kids to play in. Great campground for the kids to ride their bikes too. The state park also has a VERY nice pool with a fun water slide and diving board. ($2.00 per person per day) The campground store is closed but you can purchase ice and firewood at the campground entrance. If you are looking for a great place to eat in Madison, check out the "Downtowner". Yummy food! We camped here in a Tent Trailer.
We loved the campground. Lots of shade trees, level sites, grassy areas, lots of room between sites. The pool is adjacent to the CG. Cost $3.00 for the day, large pool with slides and lifeguards. Reason for rating 9: Men's showers are open (locker style). Women's showers were very nice with individual changing rooms. Wonderful trails to walk. We took scooters and had lots of places to ride. We will definitely camp here again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
The park is great, with miles of hiking trails and spectacular scenery. The campground is only so so. The staff are friendly and the park is clean. But there are tall weeds between some of the sites and there are none with a sewer connection. Some sites have no hook-ups. It is great for a week end or a short visit. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Very nice campground with paved interior roads and gravel parking pads. Electric hookups only, but there are a number of water faucets in good locations and a dump station. Most of the sites are wide, fairly level, and the number of shade trees varies from none to heavily wooded. The fire rings have a nice sturdy cooking grate built-in on one side. We didn't use the restrooms or showers, but when I checked for the purposes of this review the facilities were clean. There was only one private shower, which didn't have hooks or a bench in it's changing area. The other showers were an open locker room style, which I thought was unusual to see at a State Park. Attractions in the park include several waterfalls, plenty of hiking trails, and a nice pool. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Sites are level and fairly well separated. Some sites can accommodate large rigs, but may have some difficulty in accessing. Campground has water available, swim pool, playground(s) and hiking trails. Dump Station is available. As the name implies, the park's focal points are the water falls, four of them. We camped here in a camper.
