Energy Lake Forest Service Park located at 100 Van Morgan Drive, Golden Pond, KY 42211 in the Land Between the Lakes region. [270] 924-2270 Reservable and non-reservable sites, all have 50 amp power but no other hookups. Four loops. Great showers, clean rest rooms. Small to medium size sites, mostly level, probably not suited for big rigs. Mostly families and fishermen. Lots of tents and tent trailers. Table and fire ring at each site. Very nice campground, but some planner decided it should have city type street lights. There are dump stations at the North and at the South Land Between the Lakes visitor centers; the one to the North scores an F - it is on a hillside. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

First of all, this is not a Corps of Engineers campground. The COE is "Canal Campground" in Grand Rivers, KY. We thought we were stopping at the COE park and ended up at Hillman Ferry. It was OK for a one night stop but they put us in site #60 which required a very tight turn and then backing down a very narrow incline to get in the site. The site was big but getting in it was a challenge! The section of the park we were in (we arrived without reservations and took what we could get) was crowded and most sites were nearly on top of each other. This site is right next to the beach area which means this site became a walkway for several children in the area. No big deal unless it bothers you but it was rather intrusive. The other end of the campground had some pretty sites but they are really close together. It seemed more like a private campground than a National or State Park. The rate we paid was with a senior discount. The check-in people were very friendly and helpful. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

When we arrived at this campground we immediately decided to stay longer than planned. Hillman Ferry is one of the most developed National Forest campground I’ve ever seen. The sites are nice, level, large hard gravel pads and there’s a complete selection from full hook-up to primitive, heavily wooded to fully open lake-view. By far the prettiest (in our opinion) sites are the water-front ones in Section C1 and C2, although all the sites are decent. A portion of the sites are auctioned off for the season each year (and occupied by long-term campers) but the prime sites are kept open and reservable. The area is fairly quiet during the week, but does tend to fill-up on the weekend so book ahead if you want a lake view. We parked here in a 40-footer and had no problem navigating the roads or sites along the C loops. We spent some lovely days here watching the sunset over the lake, hiking and playing in the water with our doggie. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This campground has always been fun in the past, nice for family outings. Management has been a little overzealous in recent years though. They act like it's a really secure place, which basically just means that the check-in procedures often takes at least 45 minutes on a busy holiday weekend. I've never seen any campground anywhere have such inefficient check-in procedures. Fact of the matter is that anybody can drive halfway down the access road and park, get on the paved bicycle trails, and walk right in then have full run of the place. It's not nearly as secure as they want you to believe. It keeps the unpaid and unregistered cruisers out, that's about it. They used to allow everybody to hang out at the basketball courts as late as you want. It was awesome for summer nights for the younger crowd. Now they don't even turn the lights on, which just means all the teenagers are hanging out in shady scattered spots instead of all in one place with spotlights on them. Just some really backwards thinking going on there. Although they're a little misled on the security, most of the employees are nice except for a few of the check-in guys, especially if they are an intern. Most recently they are old volunteers though so that doesn't seem to be an issue anymore. We camped here in a Tent.

Golden Age rate for 50 amp electric only. We were in A loop, beware going too far into this end. It gets real tight with steep side roads. Not a good place for MH's or any large rig. This loop is mostly side hill. Lots of slope to the sites. The first site we were assigned had 18" of grade between our axles. Moved to A4 and blocked the front tires. Golden Age discount is a flat $6, or half of a basic no hookup site. Then prices vary by amps, water or not and sewer. Verizon broadband had no signal, cells were usable, but spotty. TV via batwing was mostly good. We camped here in a Motorhome.

We extended our stay for 10 nights. Limited activity this early in the season, which we enjoyed. Hosts were very helpful and pleasant. We know the campground will be very crowded in later months, however, perfect in early spring and late fall. We will return during the same seasons. We camped here in a Motorhome.

We camped here on our way to Arkansas. There are many camp areas. We were along the lake. The sites here were back in. There is a concrete pad, concrete table and fire ring. The view of the lake was great although the water level was way down. Some of the sites can be very tight and difficult to get into and some did not appear to be level but ours was OK. The showers were clean. There are individual showers which was nice. I also saw washers and dryers at the comfort stations. There is a swimming area on the lake. For the boaters with the right site you could pull your boat up to your campsite. We did go to see the bison although they were not in the bison range. If you are in the area be sure to go eat at Patti's. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

(We didn't stay here), but looked it over. Plenty of sites, but wall-to-wall kids on bicycles everywhere! Sites are close together like they're trying to squeeze as many together as possible. No room for privacy. Noisy! We camped here in a Motorhome.

We spent 3 nights in Area C full hook-up area. This loop is located on a hillside and can be hard to get into depending on your trailer size. I had to inch my way into the spot due to trees on the opposite side of the road prohibited getting the vehicle off the road to back into the spot. The full hookup spots in area T are closer together but are level and appear easier to get in/out of. The park was clean and an attendant is available 24 hours at the check-in station. There is also a small store on-site with the basic items. The swimming area was also relatively clean. The park does allow extended stays so you may be next to someone who appears to have brought half of their house (grills, ATVs, tents, regrigerators, etc.) I have been to nicer places, but this campground was clean and had the amenities you would be looking for around the lake. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

We can't wait to return to this park. Terrific campground, quiet, tall trees, everything clean. Plenty of bike and walking trails. Camp hosts were friendly and helpful. We camped here in a Motorhome.

I thought this was an excellent park. Big, well-placed, sites, many with water view or waterfront. It has boat launches, swimming beaches, hiking/biking trails, an archery range, camp store with friendly staff, etc. etc. A lot for a national/federal park. There are a number of seasonal sites, but we found them to be well-kept. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Yes, this is definitely a very popular campground. We camped here during the week in mid September and the campground was almost full. We were fortunate to get a site overlooking the water, - lots of birds, - herons, kingfishers, etc. However, motorized boats are allowed so some days it might be noisy. There are some walking trails right at the campground but none along the water and only one trail that takes you to a view out over the lake. However, just walking in the campground provides exercise and beauty. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Beautiful campground with lots of shaded wooded sites. Even though we did not have a reservation, we were able to get a very quiet pull-thru big-rig site. We had full hookups in the "T" section. The park is very quiet and peaceful. Friendly staff. The only complaint is the long-term residents with messy, cluttered sites. We camped here in a Motorhome.

I have always loved this campground, but was a bit disappointed this time. We decided to go during the week, rather than the weekend to avoid the crowds, but, the campground was full the first night there. Upon our arrival, there were only 4 sites left with water and electric, so we chose the best one based on our memory. As it turns out, the area we chose, was pretty full of seasonal campers. Most of them were not present, yet, had so much stuff setting everywhere making it look very cluttered and, well, trashy, to be honest. And the lights, most of these seasonal folk must be afraid of the dark! This was very disappointing, as one of my favorite things about camping, is watching the shadows created by the campfire dance around, which was impossible due to the light from other unoccupied sites. However, if you don't mind all the clutter, and light, this is still a great place to take the kids for daytime activities. The staff were very friendly, and the grounds were well kept, clean showers and restrooms, and, very secure. We camped here in a Tent Trailer.

A wonderful campground! We were not able to make reservations is advance for the any of the sites we wanted (full hook-ups) so we were a little nervous about getting a good site. When we got there, the staff gave us several choices and we were very pleased. Our site was very spacious and private, and the staff was wonderful the entire stay. Some of our favorite things about the park was the beautiful bike trail thru the woods, the location of it (close to several great outdoor attractions), the outpost store, and how secure the staff at the front gate made it. We will certainly be back. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Why would I rate this park a 2 when it is such a beautiful and clean park with such clean showers? This park has MAJOR ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS! When I turned on the A/C, the voltage dropped from 111V to 105V. This is way too low. I checked two other sites, one far away, and the unloaded voltage at the outlet was the same. Therefore, this problem was not just at our site. At one point, the A/C bogged down and the lights dimmed. I immediately turned off our A/C. After a few seconds, the park voltage jumped up to around 115V. I suspect some A/C’s got fried. After that, the voltage was marginal. Other than this major issue, the park is absolutely beautiful. The sites are level and well spaced. We would certainly go here again if it were not for the electrical problems. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

All roads are blacktop, some roads to sites will have tree roots that push up blacktop, very hard to drive over. Sites are gravel and range from from level to some what level. Lots of trees in park under. Number of good sites on lake. Area T has. three rings of roads. Trees are very close to road in this loop. Very hard to drive in this loop. If you have a motorhome you may wish to use area C1 or C3. No noise in park. Golden Age Passport is good for $6.00 per day off price. Lots of speed bumps in park. Bath houses were all new that I looked at. You can swim or fish in lake. Park sits on 300 miles of undeveloped shoreline. Very nice place to visit. We camped here in a Motorhome.

We loved this park -- spacious, lots of trees, beautiful in the fall colors. There were lovely areas to walk and our little dog loved it. The spaces were big and lots of privacy around. We enjoyed some of the sights close by, such as Kentucky Dam, a planetarium, and Patti's Settlement. We plan to go back there soon, and would really recommend it. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Beautiful wooded campground. Sites are fairly well spaced; some right along lakeside, others on terraced hillsides. Good choice of basic, elec. or elec-water sites; also some full-hookup sites, a few big-rig friendly. Tight turns on some CG roads (particularly C section) might be a problem for large or long rigs. When lake is higher, fishing enthusiasts might be able to drop a line right from your site! Really nice bathrooms - loved the private shower rooms!! Kept quite clean, especially considering how popular this campground is. Would definitely come here again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Excellent campground. Lots of tall pine trees and spacious sites. Sites are fairly level, but be careful pulling in because of so many trees. Administered by the Forestry Service so not a lot of amenities, but staff is very friendly, and the grounds are clean with abundant wildlife. We have camped here many times and never disapointed. Cellphone and satellite reception is spotty. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

We camp at this campground several times a year. Great campground. Lots of activities going on during the week. Capture The Flag, Hikes, Concerts, and many more. They have a nice size beach area with volleyball, a playground, 2 boat docks. The only down fall I had this time, is for the careless pet owner who took their dog into the shower with them and let it defecate in the shower stall. Other than that mishap, I will be back again soon. We camped here in a Tent.

Very nice campground, but very crowded. If you want something other than primitive for a weekend, you will need to get there at least by the middle of the week. Bathrooms were clean, but not well stocked on toilet paper. Water hydraunts in primitive areas were very far apart. Lots of Poison Ivy and Oak, and ticks. This used to be our favorite campground, but over the past few years, it has gone down hill a little. Probably due to the increased popularity. We camped here in a Tent.

This is a very large park. Your sites have small rock gravel and are fairly spaced. The bath house was nice with private showers. They were still building some of them. They had a band playing on Saturday night, which was nice. Also a store with a pretty good variety of items. Friendly workers. A couple of beach/swim areas. Playground for the children. Nice bicycle paths for bike riding. We had a site with full hookups for $24.00 a night but they had other sites w/electric and water for a cheaper price. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Campground is now run by the government. Best sites with sewer hook are taken by seasonals. Sites with sewer are $20, without sewer, electric, water are less. Some restrooms are very bad and some are good. The older restrooms are in bad shape, but you can expect that. Very nice campground with loads of things to do and see. We camped here in a camper.

Very large Corp of Engineers campground in Land between the lakes. Has around 100 full hookup sites and rest mostly electric and water with some primitive sites. Lots of trees with some areas mostly tall pine trees and other area's a variety of hardwood. Roads are asphalt paved and sites are a small rock chap. Sites are outlined with railroad type ties which makes the actual site kind of tidy. Some sites are on Kentucky lake. Campground has a store, boat dock, swimming area and bicycle paths. We camped here in a camper.

Our site was for electric only. Full service sites were $32. My husband qualified for lifetime "Golden Age Passport" card. The card was $10 and saved us $6 per night. The sites are all gravel, level pads and most have 4x4 edging. Lots of shade. Some sites closer together than others. Don't care for the concrete, non-movable picnic tables. The small shower buildings are old and really need replacing. They look about the same as years ago. The larger shower house is better but farther away. There is no WI-FI available. Have to drive to McDonald's in Dover. There is only one dump station. There is a camp store, but I didn't check it out. Will stay again when in the area. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Rates are $12 no hookups, $18 electric only and $32 for 50 amp, water & sewer. Golden age discount is 50% off the no hookup rate of $12, or $6 primitive, $12 electric only and $26 full hookup. One surprise here was our Verizon cells & broadband was excellent, we had no service in spots driving in. TV via batwing was so-so: 3 good stations with not much, networks would come and go. Only big negative was dogs, constant barking from 6 am until 10 pm. There are lots of big dogs in this park. We camped here in a Motorhome.

We arrived for Easter weekend on Good Friday around 6:00 pm and found several Big Rig sites still available (since it is a state park, the majority of sites are first come, first serve). Sites were level and gravel with nice stone picnic tables and fire pits. The bathrooms were clean and well maintained. This is a very busy (and large) campground, but everyone was very friendly. The camp store is relatively new with limited selection. The sewer hook-up is at the opposite end of the site (rear) from the shore power (front), and in order for my power cord to reach I had to buy an additional sewer hose at the camp store and splice it into my existing hose. This was a small inconvenience for an otherwise clean and fun campground. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

The worst thing about this stay was we only had one night. Although I think I will go for just the electric site $18 instead of the full hook up site next time. This place is one of the nicest National Park Service Campgrounds I have been at. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Piney campground is a good campground that we will return to in the future. The only drawback is the huge price increase from last year rates. Full hookups went to 24 dollars a night to 32. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

The campground was clean and the sites very spacious. We camped with full hook up in the Dogwood site #17. The other campers were very friendly and every time we walked our little dog, we found someone who talked to us. The lake was very rough so we didn't stay on the lake much in our jet ski, but we were so comfortable in our motor home that we just stayed and rested, which is why we camped this weekend. We even saw a deer on the grounds while going to the boat dock to put our ski in. There was a church service on Sunday morning which was well attended and the preacher gave a good message. We will come back. We camped here in a Motorhome.

I agree with previous posters. This is a lovely campground with lots of gorgeous lake views. We had a lot on the water so the morning view was breath-taking. The evening sunset was breath-taking. The campground is very family oriented. Lots of kids riding bikes everywhere...beach, playground, etc. You can rent Trek bikes here. The bike trail is level, paved and very nice. That was fun to do. Now...what I did not like: NO WATER. I do not like having to fill up my holding tank and being stuck with limited water. We had to buy a 5 gallon water container to refill the tank. The bathrooms were gross at times. There was one bathhouse in the Loblolly loop that was decent. Having to drive a mile to the bathroom/shower was a pain in the rear. Husband disagrees with me about this campground. He loved it. I wasn't as thrilled. I've seen better but then again, I'm a woman and little things like clean showers and clean toilets impress me. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Well we expected too much from the previous reviews. Seams like most of the sites are taken by seasonal campers with extra refrigerators etc sitting outside their campers. They do have full hook up sites, however they are very hard to get. They do have 1 loop that is reservable which has 2 community water hookups, 30 amp and no sewer. Mens showers had no private dressing area however the Ladies showers had private areas. I guess the park would be Okay if you only needed 30AMP and don't mind hauling 200 ft of hose to fill your water tank and didn't need sewer. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This park provides all kinds of activities for families - hiking, biking, fishing, boating, swimming, and other outdoor activities. It has a rental center if you didn't bring your own equipment. Sites are roomy and shady. Bathrooms are clean and each has a washer and dryer outside. No towns are close by so you need to bring all your supplies or plan to drive for some miles. The park is on Kentucky lake so you can enjoy all the benefits of this huge waterway. Prices seem a little high for a National Recreation Area. If you want to watch TV, bring a satellite dish. It's almost impossible to get stations off the antennae. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Absolutely lovely campground! Sites are large and well-spaced, and their varied positioning looks more "natural" than lining everyone up in a row. Some sites are open, but most wooded, or at least shaded. The campground in general has a park-like feel, without much undergrowth in the woods. I agree with the above poster who said the staff is great - we found them all very friendly and helpful. We got extremely lucky and ended up with a full-hookup waterview site, but even if we had had to settle for less, we would have enjoyed this campground. It's one of the best we have ever been to! If the showers had had private changing areas, we would have rated this a 10 all the way! This late in the season, the campground store was not open, and they were out of firewood, but they directed us to a funky little flea market shop on the road to Dover that sold some. All the full-hookup sites were full while we were there (during the week) but plenty of basic, electric and elec-water sites were available. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Piney is a very clean campground with nice restroom facilities, and boasts some beautiful views of Kentucky Lake. The park is very big-rig friendly, but seems to have several seasonal campers. Dogwood loop is the only loop to offer full hookups, and tends to be hard to get into. It seems to be mainly occupied by the newer, more costly rigs. The LBL area is great for sightseeing and has several historical attractions including a living-history area where people are dressed in circa 1800's clothing and work on a farm. They also have a Buffalo range along the main road where you can stop and watch the buffalo. And, as always, the fishing is excellent. Highly recommended, but I suggest arriving on a Sunday afternoon or Monday morning to get the best sites. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Clean, well maintained campground in the Land Between the Lakes. Staff was outstanding, the most helpful of any campground we've visited, and are on-site 24X7. Sites are assigned when you enter the campground, but you can change before setting up. One thing I liked was that they had a map posted on the check-in building showing all sites that were already full, and readily told you the pros/cons of any site that was still open - as I said, great staff! They also give each camper a flyer showing activities scheduled for the next few days so you can participate in hikes, bands, etc. Interior roads are paved, sites are level and have an ample "living area" of gravel. Most sites are electric only, but water is available throughout the campground; a limited number of sites have electric/water, and a few have full hookups. Shade varies from site to site. Best showers of any campground I've been to; just wish they had private dressing areas. Access to the campground is restricted via a gate - something we really liked - and security staff patrols the campground around the clock. Recreational opportunities within the campground include a swimming beach, fishing pier, boat ramp (lots of boaters!), basketball court and softball field; numerous other activities are available within LBL itself. Paris Landing State Park is 5 miles from the gate, and has an excellent golf course with very reasonable rates. There is a small camp store on-site, and ice, firewood and tick repellant are available 24X7 through the check-in point. Nearest grocery store is a Piggly Wiggly in Dover, 11 miles from the gate; there is a WalMart SuperCenter and Kroger in Paris, about 25 miles from the gate. Good cell phone coverage throughout the campground. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Very clean campground, well maintained even off of the camp sites. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Other campers who seemed to be regulars were very friendly. Very quiet at night. Good activities for the whole family. We will go back many more times for our weekend outings. We camped here in a Tent Trailer.

Located in Land Between the Lakes approximately 3 miles east of U.S. 79. Stayed on site #215 Persimmon Loop with 45' motorhome. Great lake view. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This is a beautiful CG with wildlife all around. The deer seemed to be fairly tame as they wandered about at dusk w/o a seemingly care in the world. I don't agree with the 10's others give for the following reasons. We arrived on a Thursday afternoon and virtually all of the 380+ site were taken already. We had a choice of a handful of electric only (30 amp) sites from which to choose or a couple dozen sites with NO hookups. We ended up with site 222 on the Persimmon Loop (30 amp). This turned out to be a great site with shade for most of the day. It was on the outer edge of the loop so we had an open field behind us where the deer, chipminks and turtles roamed. It was 2 sites away from the edge of the water which made it convenient to go fishing. We fished from the bank and caught something on every cast, either a small bluegill or a big clump of weeds. We came across two snakes. One was dead along the main road thru the CG and one was in the water where I was fishing and determined to come ashore despite my protests. Needless to say, I don't like snakes and left immediately when I saw his determination. As for the showers, they were slow to drain and you would be standing in several inches of water trying to get clean. This is a YUK factor for me of the highest magnitude when you consider the number of folks you have been in there prior to you. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This is a GREAT family campground. I can't believe one review here said it was not. Everyone I know with kids loves to go to this campground. In fact we plan on spending most of our weekends there this spring and summer. There is so much to do. There are lots of paved hiking/bike trails, a sandy beach area, playgrounds, volleyball and softball fields. In the summers they even have activities planned for the kids and music concerts at night. And what makes me feel so great and safe is that everyone that wants to come into the campground has to check in at the front gate and the whole campground is fenced in. There are kids every where on bikes and you just feel comfortable letting them have a little space in this family-friendly campground. Many sites are right on the lake which is just beautiful. It is also located close to many Land Between the Lakes attractions...the Bison Prairie, the Old Homeplace where you can see how things were done in the old days and kids can even try some of it out, Fort Donnelson battlefield, a Nature Station and a Planetarium. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Sites are given on a first come-first served basis-no reservations accepted but, we have never had trouble getting a site since it is so large. I just can't say enough about this campground. It was just a great weekend for our family with three little kids! We camped here in a Tent Trailer.

Campsites are available on a first-come, first served basis. Nice paved roads with gravel sites. Pets must be on a leash and under physical control at all times. You are required to clean up after your pet for health and sanitation purposes. Fees start at $12 up to $29 for camping shelters a night. Camp staff are very friendly and will go out of their way to help you in way possible. There are 2 boat launching ramps, and a fishing pier. A herd of deer went walking thru the campgrounds as we were having our coffee. They were beautiful. We camped here in a Motorhome.
