We camped at the state park. Nice state park. Right on the Bay. Sites are level, but its mostly marsh area so your site and the roads are the only usable land. Beach is nice, felt like your at the ocean. Staff was friendly. Park and DNR patrol regularly so it felt secure. Price was reasonable. Park offered nature activities and they had canoe rentals. Downside: it's 22 miles from any decent store or restaurant; Sprint and Verizon service was weak and useless other than a quick call. Also it was cool for most of our stay, but it hit 70 our last day and the bugs came out in force. We couldn't be outside more than a couple minutes. When your moving its not too bad, but once you stop, you are attacked. It would be a nice place to stay early or late in the year, or if you just wanted to hit the beach then go straight to your car or camper and not be outside. Restrooms looked new and were clean. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Pros: very remote, dark at night, no street lamps, lots of privacy, full hookups, large sites, level sites, quiet, affordable, gated. Cons: huge horse flies swarm around even in the fall, spider webs everywhere, 17 miles from even McDonald's, not much around, swamp land, no virgin mobile data cell service, no Wi-Fi, very weak AT&T cell service, even in 2012. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Very nice campground. Family had a great time crabbing, riding bikes and swimming in the beach area. Crabbing off of the piers was a lot of fun for the kids, just keep the bug spray handy. Speaking of bugs, the amount of ticks was unbelievable. The first 10 minutes of setting up out campsite (Tulip Loop) we saw 4 ticks on our camping mat. Wife is allergic to ticks so she wasn't too happy. Just had to keep a watchful eye the 5 days we were here. Use plenty of bug spray and you should be fine. The biking was excellent, nice flat roads and the not much traffic at all. My 5 year old learned to ride without training wheels a week before and felt safe riding in this campground. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
