Camped here in mid-July so it was fairly busy, but thankfully we got there in the middle of the week and were able to secure a lakefront site (#26). There are really 4 different sections here. The ones on the north end were grassy and generally shaded. Some water hookups were more than 25 ft. The middle section (where we camped) had about 7-8 lakefront sites, all very nice. There were pull-throughs, but not made for longer RV's. Also some sites were along the country road that were grassy and shaded. The newest section, and probably the most sought after, has 7 lakeside sites only. The new restroom/showers were in this section and were very nice and kept clean. The 4th section was across the road from the other sites and the lake. It contained several sites that were level, grassy, and mostly shaded. The dump station was in the newer section and was easily accessible. Usually one young man ran the office. He was pleasant and usually around the campground area attending to duties. This is a laid-back operation, but they take good care of things. The beach was excellent!!! Nice and sandy and not very far from our campsite (about 50 yards or less). Town was about 1 mile south and there is a sidewalk most of the way there. We walked into and around town for our morning exercise. Porcupine Mtns. State Park was about 14 miles south, but the park is huge so there is more driving necessary if you want to enjoy the full park. Syl's is a good place to eat. There is a good grocery store on the east side of town along M-38. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Park is very scenic with view of Lake Superior from about 25% of the sites. Well kept, clean and the management is very helpful. Call ahead and they will reserve a site for you on the day you intend to arrive. No TV reception except satellite and spotty cell phone reception. Beach access is good and while a bit cold Lake Superior is great for a swim on a hot day. Some seasonal campers, but not many. While there are no full hookup sites they will come and pump your tanks for a fee. We camped here in a Motorhome.

We checked in for 2 nights, ended up staying for 6 nights. Very relaxing, right on shores of Lake Superior. Forty eight miles from Quince Mines (copper) in Hancock, and best pastries in the U.P., at Amy J's in Hancock. They don't take reservations, but if you call in a day or two before your stay, they'll hold a spot for you and charge you for the hold days as well as the days of your stay. Our two rigs stayed side by side in sites 6 & 8 with a hedgerow around both sites, making it seem like a single large site, with a good view of the beach and water. We were on grass (which we prefer). The sites right across from us are sandy sites right on the beach. Park is clean, well kept. Trash emptied twice a day. Showers clean, but coin operated ($.75 for first 6 minutes, 2 minutes for each add'l $.25). Sites 65-70 are grassy AND on the beach; cost $23/night, max stay 14 nights. Good dump site on property. Most westerly section of the Eastern Time Zone. Sun sets during our stay at 9:53 P.M. Young folks water skiing at dusk, 10:30 P.M. Water pressure good. 50 A electric. If you call in, expect an answering machine. They will call you back. We loved it here and will definitely stay again. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Sites are tight as are most Michigan state campgrounds. Lakeside sites are extremely small and very windy. We moved from a lake front site when the winds approached 40 mph with no storm present. Staff was friendly and helpful. We would stay here again but would rather stay at one of the smaller rustic campgrounds if they are available. We camped here in a Tent Trailer.

This was a nice campground. Nothing fancy but a good place to stay while exploring the mountains. The sites on the water were nice but far from the restroom. A good place to eat in Ontonagon is Syls Cafe/Bakery: homemade pastries. My only complaint would be the set up of the fire pits, all were on the back of the sites, not much privacy. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

We enjoyed our 3-day stay here. That said, I was not pleased with our site. Those in the row of site 36 to 57 are basically in a flat mowed lawn that slopes away from the road unevenly with electric posts about 70' back from the road where the land slopes considerably. We setup closer to the road and used a 50' 20a extension cord to bring power to the coach. Even so, I had to have several 2" thick boards under the front wheels. So recommendation #1: avoid sites 36-57 if you're in a motorhome. A popup or other trailer would be fine. No trees in this section of sites either. Sites 9 through 29 are just lovely and give you a great view of the lake. Sites 10 - 26 are also good if you can see the lake through those camping right next to it! All the other sites are generally adequate. Facilities are clean, modern, and have seperate shower rooms. Onsite laundry available too. Quite a few families and many dogs while we were there: but noise was never a problem. Recommenation #2: you'll miss a lot if you don't have a car with you. Once the MH is setup, we normally walk everywhere; but the distances are too vast at this park for all but a few good hikes. On the 3rd day, we packed up the MH and drove the 35-ish miles to the Presque Isle campground: to hike and see the falls. We would have loved to camp at Presque Isle (next trip this is where we will go!) but they were full. No electricity at Presque Isle - but generators are permitted in the eastern loop. Recommendation #3: Go hiking - some wonderful views and the trails are generally good. However, the West River Trail just South of the Manido Falls, has a horrible path up the side of a steep hill with nothing but tree roots to hold onto. We decided not to go up it (as did the family after us too). This decision prevented us from seeing the Nawadaha Falls. Recommendation #4: There are a LOT of steps on the West River Trail. Don't take it unless you're comfortable climbing 120 steps each: up and down! (Lots of benches provided). Recommendation #5: Cross the foot bridge at the North end of the West River Trail and, on the far side, turn North (rather than the recommended South). There is a trail through tall pines that takes you to a wonderful beach on Superior with Lots of Flat Rocks just the right size to hold in your hand. And finally, Recommendation #6: Spend time in the Visitor Center. Well done exhibits and a great 12 minute movie. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Stayed here several nights, hook ups vary. Thought we were in a 50amp site and it was a 30. No rhyme or reason which is where. Got $5 back for each night since 50amp is $35. Cable cut out for several hours on the most desired digital channels. Complained to office but they thought it was OK as the channel they were watching 1960's re-runs on was still on. Location is excellent for exploring the areas. Got to go to several 150 year old abandoned copper mines, etc., after getting advice from the locals, as to where to find the overgrown entrances. Neat. Don't expect too much in the way of groceries, etc., as the one store is really limited. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Agree with previous reviews. Shade is scarce but it was cool when we were here. Bathhouse was ok but could use updating. Laundry could use cleaning and updating too. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Rate reflects weekly rate. Sites long and narrow, very close together, but typically rigs assigned to every other site, giving fair space. Staff helpful friendly and knowledgeable. Sites fairly level. Laundry and bathrooms clean but in need of updating. Agree with prior review: a good old fashioned cleaning and trimming is needed, also agree sewer connection too high. Playground no longer exists. Cable good w/ 60+ channels, HD cuts in and out. Good 3G Verizon voice and data. Very convenient to Porkcupine Mountains, and copper mines. I doubt that we would stay here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
