The staff at this campground are very nice. The lake is small, but very quiet and beautiful. They have small boats for rental for a very reasonable rate. The pool is wonderful. Bathrooms and showers (free) were always clean. Their rates are a little high, but you usually get what you pay for. I would highly recommend Hickory Lake Campground if you are looking for a relaxing place to visit. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
If you love barking dogs, this is your place. Otherwise, stay away! We listened to the dogs of seasonal campers bark constantly. Fireworks, loud partying, and barking dogs well past quiet time. We did report this to the office, and fortunately these seasonal campers weren't there the entire length of our stay. The pool is warm, but very small and doesn't open until noon. The beach is nice. Sites are not level and requires some maneuvering between trees. The bathrooms are clean. They certainly do nickel & dime their guests! It is not worth the cost. We won't be returning. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Clean campground with very friendly owners. Only downside is feeling nickel and dime for everything. After paying $52 a night plus $5 a night for a dog, I hate to pay $5/hour for a simple canoe and $.25 for a shower. Resort was pretty wet but we have had lots of rain. Overall a decent experience but just a bit high for what you get. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This is a very nice place to camp. The sites are generous in size. The grounds are clean and well cared for. The bathrooms are spotless and are some of the nicest. There is even music playing overhead. The caretakers are wonderful, they are very nice and helpful. The pool is new this year. It is a bit small but overall nice. They have a beach area but for swimming use the pool. The beach is never used so it's a nice place to get away and make some sandcastles. Fishing is great as well. Our only complaint is that although pets are allowed, the rules are not enforced. We camped with our two dogs but had to deal with multiple dogs barking all day and night as well as dogs off leash running everywhere. There is a sign that no dogs are allowed in the park however it was never enforced. I did not like our kids playing around some of the dogs who seemed too wild. Also, there were young children left unattended at the pool. Not the campgrounds fault but a disappointment. The themed activities are great as well. Overall a nice place to try. Beautiful setting right on the lake. Campsites are adequate with full hookups, and views of the lake. Some were right on the lake. The bugs were horrendous, but this was Minnesota afterall. The restrooms were not all that great but the staff was terrific. A couple young guys were camping near us in a tent. They were total slobs (but friendly and very nice) and left piles of garbage and beer cans strewn around their campsite. The owners didn't seem to mind at all. One nice thing that happened. It rained one night. I mean RAINED. The owners came down and invited the two tent campers to sleep in one of the vacant cabins for the rest of the night. I thought that was very nice. But I wished they had also asked the men to clean up their site. We didn't complain as it was obvious the owners could see the mess and equally obvious they really didn't mind. So we just ignored it and enjoyed our stay in that area of the state. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Very family oriented with customer service as a high priority and a very friendly staff. New owner has renovated the entire campground to begin selling the lots. As explained to me this process may take a few years and will continue with seasonals and weekenders until then. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This RV park is actually in Malmo about 18 miles south of Aitkin. We can't say enough about the owners of this campground. We were there during a storm and they were amazingly efficient at taking care of all the storm problems. The grounds were well taken care of, the permanent sites were very nice, the RV sites were large. I highly recommend this RV park. We stayed there a week and would go back in a heart beat. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Really loved this campground. VERY clean and pretty. Great place for young children. Two pools, two playgrounds and a Dirt bike track. Lots of seasonals, but you would not guess because all the campers look really new. Very friendly owners also. Big sites and pretty level. Will definitely be back. We camped here in a Motorhome.
