Our rate reflects a New Mexico annual camping pass. This is a really nice campground and one of the better ones in the New Mexico State Parl system. We had a pull-through site, #44, which had 50 amp service. We camped here on the way to and back from our destination. There weren't too many campers. I really have nothing to add to the other reviews. There is not a bad site. Note, the sewer on the four full-hook-up sites is to the rear of the campsite. This may be an issue, like it would be for us, depending on the design and location of your sewer hose. This is a great location to visit the Caverns even though it is about a 30-minute drive. You can't beat the price and the setting. We definitely will return. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Saying the host is disinterested is a major improvement from the reality. His dog was one of the problems. A camper in a ragged trailer, and ragged vehicles kept two dogs tethered out near the street. They barked at every little thing that happened. The ranger was not interested in quieting the dog problem either. The park is well kept physically and in the middle of a huge amount of things to keep you busy. Carlsbad is in the middle of a major construction boom so traffic is tough in town We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
I generally agree with all previous positive comments, but would like to clarify some of that review information that is in error. The park isn’t actually ‘remote’ in that it’s only 12 miles from Carlsbad, which includes the 4.5 miles off the main highway. The park is landscaped with plenty of trees, but in the high desert area of SE NM they don’t grow high enough for shade. $4 won’t get you into a site unless you have some form of NM park pass. The rate posted for my review is the current published price. The one-way mileage to the nearby attraction of Sitting Bull Falls is actually 45 miles. There is 50 amp service in about a third of the sites to include the only three pull thru’s. About one third of the sites require at least some back to front leveling. Only about a third of the sites will accommodate big rigs, but those that do are nice, level, lengthy sites. Access roads and pads are paved. Water pressure and voltage was good, but the park wasn’t full. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Remote desert environment which is interesting for someone unfamiliar but but stark. Nice nature trail from camp to ranger station. Very windy in the spring. I suspect the area would be very uncomfortable in the summer. Cell phone coverage is good. Warnings are posted not to eat the fish from the lake since they have DDT. Host was moderately disinterested. Ranger staff are friendly and helpful. Carlsbad has very nice stocked lake for fishing and recreation. Very interesting area for geology study. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We camped here for five nights in March 2008. This is a Chihuahuan desert park so be prepared for great scenery, few trees and big skies. Expect cold nights and warm days. There are a few short walks/hikes within the park. The park is well maintained with large, mostly level, paved sites. Campsites have a wonderful sun shelter with a picnic table and many have a lovely stone wall to block the wind. The staff were very helpful. The restrooms are very clean, but hot water in the showers was limited. Birding opportunities are also limited. BLSP is an excellent home base for trips to Carlsbad Caverns National Park and Lincoln National Forest. The former is an outstanding attraction and the latter has terrific hikes and scenery including Sitting Bull Falls and Five Points Vista --- all suitable for hikers and non-hikers alike. All these attractions are about one hour’s drive from BLSP, but the drives are worth it followed by a return to a great park for camping. TV reception is great --- no trees to block signals. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Brantley State Park is a nice place to stay on the way to Carlsbad Caverns National Park. The sites have a sturdy shelter and table with large level pads. Everything was well taken care of. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Nice and remote, but worth the drive. This is an outstanding State Park with everything you will need for a fun camping trip. The lake has good access and there are National parks near by. Some sites are small, but there are some bigger sites. We have a 37 foot 5th wheel that fit into site 19 just fine. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Lots of trees. Some sites were very private due to trees and rock walls. Every site had a table with a roof. Very clean, and nice paved roads. We camped here in a Tent Trailer.
Nice park, close to town, shopping and attractions. Owner and family who work here are very, very nice. Free WiFi was nice, but our Verizon card worked well here. The WiFi is faster, so we used it. Lots of animals for kids to check out. Turtles, ponies, goats and chameleons. These folks try very hard and we like staying at family owned parks. Would definitely stay here again. The only drawback is that some of the permanent residents have let their rigs look tacky with stuff laying around a couple of flat tires. Makes it look bad, but ignore that. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is a very nice quiet state park with the best water pressure we’ve ever had at a park. Our cell phone reception was good but my aircard for our computer was iffy, (Verizon) The town of Carlsbad has an Albertson’s Market and a Super Walmart that we found to be well stocked. The park is close to the Living Desert Zoo & Gardens State Park which is an indoor/outdoor living museum ($5.00 per adult ) displaying more than 40 native animal species and hundreds of succulent plants from around the world. It’s a 1.3 mile self-guided tour which is a leisurely walk through various habitats. http://www.emnrd.state.nm.us/PRD/LivingDesert.htm Directly across from the entrance to Brantley Lake is the road leading to Sitting Bull Falls which is about 30 miles in. You will be traveling near some of the oil fields and there is a nasty smell every now and then. There are numerous picnic shelters, a modern restroom, drinking fountains and a very short walk to the falls. This is maintained by Lincoln National Forest and there is a fee of $5.00 per vehicle(half price if you hold a Golden Age Pass). We know they will take you on a guided tour of the caves that are behind the falls but you must call ahead. http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/lincoln/recreation/caves.shtml We spent a week at Brantley and really enjoyed ourselves. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Beautiful high-desert campground with view of dammed-up lake from every campsite, distant mountains, and desert meadows. Lots are 80 ft wide, paved, with sewer available in 2 of 51 sites. Ours was a sewer site and our fee was $18. Non-sewer sites are $14. There are both reservation and non-reservation sites. Grills and picnic tables are provided on a cement slab with steel and stone-wall shelter at each site. A nature guide is provided for easy hiking across the desert terrain trails. The campground has some trees. Access roads are paved. The camp is about 12 miles from town. There is a boat launch but eating the fish in the lake is not recommended. Staff is friendly and helpful. Campground host also. This campground is about one hour's drive from Carlsbad Caverns National Park visitor center. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We stayed here for three nights and really enjoyed the time at the park. Many of the sites look out onto the lake however access to the lake is very limited due to heavy brush along the shoreline. The other downside is the smell from local oil wells in the area which is usally strongest in the mornings. The campground is very well maintained and the sites are nice. We would stay here again and we have been impressed with the new mexico State Parks. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We stayed here while visiting New Mexico for 5 days last Christmas. Park is a little drive out of the city but GREAT for nature lovers & those that don't like the "RV Park" type atmosphere all the time. Sites were separated, some shaded, with picnic tables under shelter. Very quiet & nicely kept State Park. Small playground & hiking trails down to the nearby lake. We camped here in a Tent Trailer.
We visited this park at an unfortunate time because the wind screamed and howled the whole time we were there--it was rather disconcerting. The lake was whipped into foam and whitecaps. The camp host was friendly and helpful, we appreciated her phone call in advance of our arrival telling us that the main road was out and giving us alternate directions. Hated the showers, the nozzle was too low, projected at an awkward angle and the on button had to be held down continually. The water temp also could not be adjusted and it was just lukewarm; in the summer it probably feels just right but was chilly in November. Sites were pretty level and spacious with nice views of the lake. The trees have grown since we were there about 12 years ago but they don't provide much shade, we liked the covered picnic tables. Given the backroads we had to take to get in and out due to the main road outage it seemed a bit remote but we enjoyed a visit to Carlsbad Caverns and the town of Carlsbad. We would stay there again if the forecast did not predict strong winds. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Sites are well separated, roomy and easy for even a big rig to back into. The friendly
workcampers at the visitor center asked how big our rig was, then suggested a particular site--we had a beautiful view of the lake and all the privacy we
could ask for. Don't bother paying for a sewer site when you use the automated payment station. There are only 3 and the camphosts have them. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Arriving at the site in the evening was conveniant. There is an "ATM" style terminal to register at and pay (talks to you pretty loud, too!). We met some friends up there, and finding a couple sites to park together is difficult as they are more private than others I have seen just by distance from each other, which is great if you're going alone. Spaces were nice, pavement pretty level, gravel around, nice shelters with picnic tables and nice BBQ grills (anytime we don't have to dirty ours up we don't!). Shower and restroom facilities were clean, but showers not very functional. Most had
a pushbutton timer for water (which is NEVER long enough), but handicap stall had an on-off valve. Problem for me was shower head faces the bench in the stall, making it damn near impossible to standup for shower (I know, I know, I shouldnt be using it if I don't need it, just didnt want to mess with the pushbutton!) Nice gravel trails to take you to the lake. One dump station on the way out of the park. Only problem is, when I went to pack up and get ready to dump, I noticed one of my bumper caps on the ground, and sewer drain hose missing. Overall, enjoyable and nice, but lock up your things, first time I have been a victim of thieves in an RV park. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Park is approx 15 miles from Carlsbad and 30 miles north of the Caverns. Sites are level, wide and deep with cabanas, picnic tables and trees. Has a dump station. Fishing and boating on Brantley Lake (boat launch is about 1 mile from campground) as well as numerous hiking trails and a Visitors Center. We camped here in a camper.
All facilities good as previous review, very clean, staff friendly. Huge park with large very easy pull thrus but this does make it a little characterless. It is worth repeating that the location is really in the middle of no-where, many interesting places in all directions but they are all a long way! All this said we have a very pleasant Christmas morning here before heading east in the most astonishing wind. We camped here in a Motorhome.
The only problems with this RV park are: 1. The park is not in Carlsbad NM. It is 18 miles north of Carlsbad NM. 2. The park is 39 miles from Carlsbad Caverns. The following is the e-mail I sent to KOA: To: vkrservice@koa.net Subject: Carlsbad KOA, Carlsbad NM Your web site gave the location as 16.91 miles from Carlsbad. This didn't was sound too bad, but I was thinking that the campground was that far away from Carlsbad Caverns. The actual distance from the campground to the city of Carlsbad is actually 18 miles or a round trip of 36 miles every time we went to the city of Carlsbad to do any sightseeing. That equates to $7.00 worth of gas spent every time we went to town. We were in the area three days and planned our trips to sight see to minimize the trips to town. The distance to Carlsbad Caverns from the campground is 39 miles. Our next stop on our trip was Gallup NM. Thus we had to make a round trip of 78 miles to go to Carlsbad Caverns and backtrack past the campground to head north on Highway 285 to go to I-40 and go on to Gallup. We burned an additional $25.00 for gasoline. Since we paid $66.00 a night for the Kabin, we could have gone to a motel and it would have cost us less and we would have been closer to the Caverns and other places of interest in Carlsbad. If you are going to call this Carlsbad KOA, you should clearly warn people how far away they are staying from the major attraction in the area. We camped here in a Campground Cabin.
A pricey but very nice campground. The staff were very helpful, knowledgeable and provided and escort to your site where they also sanitized the water hookup. We loved the pool and hot tub and the restroom and showers were very clean. The free Wi-Fi worked perfectly. We camped here in a Truck Camper.
Absolutely great campground - clean, grass areas, Camp sites all level, great pet area, great pool, they have a kitchen and serve meals delivered to your campsite. Best campground within 30 minutes of Carlsbad Caverns. Large, friendly staff. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Great, great great! If you're coming to Carlsbad, this is the place. The staff here is first rate. Very helpful. Escort to site. Terrific BBQ delivered to your site. Nice pool area. Quiet nights. The only down-side is its proximity to Carlsbad Caverns. It is located about 1 hour north of the caverns but not much else in the area. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This was a good park, but there are a couple of drawbacks. There is no shade at this park (I realize that this is southern New Mexico, but a little shade would be nice). If you're planning on staying here on your visit to Carlsbad Caverns, you need to be aware that this campground is over an hours' drive from there. I would not stay here if my only reason for coming was to visit the caverns. There are other RV Parks that may not be as nice but are much closer. The WiFi connection was also very poor (actually, it didn't work at all). We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Rate includes KOA member discount. We stayed for one night on the way to Carlsbad Caverns. There was very little shade, but the sites were gravel and level. After a few days in the desert heat, we really enjoyed the nice pool. The restrooms/showers were new and very nice. They offer breakfast and BBQ dinner (for extra fee) delivered to your site. Planting some trees for shade would really improve the place. Overall, a typical, nice KOA experience. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This was, by far, the best campground we have ever visited. My wife and I were in the Artesia area visiting family and had a reservation at the Carlsbad KOA for the following weekend. We drove out to sneak a peek at the place and were discouraged. It literally is in the middle of nowhere, but this later turned out to be a blessing. The staff were extremely friendly when we checked in and led us to our site. After we set up, we visited the pool. This was the cleanest RV park pool we've ever seen. We enjoyed it for hours! Later in the evening my wife and I retired to the hot tub for a glass of wine. The folks at the Carlsbad KOA were wise enough to restrict those under the age of 18 from the hot tub area! The bathrooms were amazingly clean. If I didn't know better, I'd swear they had a 24 hour attendant monitoring and cleaning them! The campground is an hour's drive from the caverns, but is WELL WORTH IT! The only reason they didn't get a 10 rating is that there is only one place to dump your trash and that's at the entrance. A more convenient method of disposing of garbage would have made this place a perfect 10. Thank you Carlsbad KOA for making our summer vacation so much fun! We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Staff was very friendly. Campground was clean, but the sites are rock, so my rig and toad got covered with a white rock dust. They also charge for additional (children) people @ $3.00 each. I recommend this KOA. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Excellent restooms....some of the best we have seen! Overall, nice campground with very level sites. Not many trees, so shade is very limited. This campground is 16 miles north of Carlsbad, and the caverns are 30 miles south of town, so be advised that it will be a long drive to the caverns. Also, pool was small for the number of campers present......we left the pool area due to numerous unruly unsupervised teens. However, we still enjoyed our time there, and would recommend it for short or overnight visits. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Everything is really clean. People are very friendly and helpful. Long pull through sites. Only reason I didn't give it a 10 is because of the smell from the oil field which is nearby. Would camp here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Park is nicely laid out, extremely quiet, and very clean, with friendly staff (despite the Memorial Day weekend crowds). Bathrooms were clean. Kids loved the roadrunners and rabbits that wander the grounds. Pool was far too small for a park this size; although the listed capacity was 22 people, there always were far more in the pool (could be dangerous for small children). Wi-fi connection was non-existent at our site. Be forewarned that the campground is well north of Carlsbad but that many mapping software programs still list it at the old location in the city itself. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Extremely nice park - clean and neat! It's about 15 minutes from Carlsbad itself, and about an hour from the Caverns. The staff was friendly, and the nice laundry area was appreciated. Wi-Fi worked just fine. It was extremely windy while we were there, damaging our vent cover and slide toppers, so keep an eye on the weather. Local attractions we'd recommend are the Living Desert State Park, and the Fiesta Drive-In Theater. We will definitely stay here again! We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is a very nice and quiet park. The sites are all large gravel pull throughs and are level. The bath/showers are spotless. The workers are extremely nice and helpful. The only negative is that this park is about 15-20 minutes from town and quite a bit further from the caverns. So, be sure that you have all groceries and supplies before arriving. We'll definitely stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We really liked it. The greatest drawback to this park is it's fairly far out of town. The people are super friendly, recommending tours and attractions to see. The washrooms are cleaner than my own and the place is very nicely kept. There are 2 off leash dog areas which our guy really liked. They offer reasonably priced BBQ style food most nights and breakfasts on the weekends- great waffles! For the kids they get out the old fire engine and pile all the kids in the camp on it, touring around with the lights and sirens going- they seemed to have a blast. We would definitely return. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is a great campground! You will pass a lot of RV Parks on the way to Carlsbad Caverns, but this one is worth the drive. It is the most spread out and spacious RV Park we have ever been in. It has a dog walk area and two off-leash dog parks. The playground was really great and the flat, open environment made bike riding fun. The manager brought us to the site on his Segway and they were all very friendly, informative and accommodating. We would definitely return. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Signage to campground good. Large area to park and register. Office staff friendly and very efficient. Escort to site. Good access roads to large pull-thru sites in semi-desert location with expansive views. All sites are well set up, flat and large. The campground has good infrastructure including excellent dog runs. The new owners now allocate sites across the whole of the campground. A well maintained and run campground. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Very nice park. Large sites, nice amenities, pet friendly with good walking area just outside the park as well as a large fenced pet run inside, friendly staff, lots to do in the area. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Rate includes charges for kids, pet, taxes, etc. What a wonderful campground! We visited Carlsbad for Thanksgiving this year and were very pleased with the park, the staff, and the owners. Joined about 75 for Thanksgiving potluck, and Scott, the owner, cooked two turkeys for the occassion. The only downside was the snowy weather, which was unexpected. The campground has good outdoor amenities, but activities are a bit limited during snow storms. It will be hot and unshaded in the summer, but very large level sites. We would definitely stay here again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This park is beautiful, clean, and full of friendly people. Beyond the great hook-ups, unbelievably beautiful restrooms, and plenty of room to walk the dog, the wi-fi is strong, the hot tub pristine, and the staff beyond compare. They deliver dinner to the campers or serve it in the community room every night and breakfast on the weekends. And the food is actually great. This park is remote, but also central to a large number of things within a reasonable drive. Carlsbad Caverns is about 50 miles away, and Guadalupe Mountains National Park is about 75 miles away We've spent almost 3 weeks here and have not gotten bored. Should you make it this direction and long for some fantastic eats, check out the No Whiner Diner in Carlsbad and the Well Head in Artesia. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This is a beautiful park with huge, level sites and friendly people. Clean, well maintained, free and strong WiFi are all positives. The only negative about this park is the location about 15 miles north of Carlsbad. It is about an hour from the visitor center to Carlsbad Caverns and a long drive from any restaurants or stores. We would definitely stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This place has to be one of the nicest in NM. The people were great. The place was clean and neat. The campsites were level. Everything was well taken care of. Too bad NM doesn't have a lot of trees because the only thing that was lacking was shade! We camped here in a Motorhome.
Nice pull through and with wide slips and landscaping and easy access in and out. The pool and hot tub were very inviting and clean. The staff was helpful with maps and suggestions on things to see. It’s a 35 minute drive one-way to the caverns and about 45 minute drive to Sitting Bull Falls. We would stay here gain. Rate posted is net after 10% Good Sam discount. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Very clean park, owner was friendly and would stay here again if passing through. The women's restroom was fantastic, from what I heard. Stayed for one night then moved on to see the caverns. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is a very nice campground, one of the nicest ones I've been to. This is a newish park so their trees are still little. The park is clean and tidy; the bathrooms are immaculate and there is plenty of room in the handicapped shower for two persons. The heated pool was a bit cool, but I suspect it must be solar-heated;it was only about 80 degrees the day we were there. In the evening you will see bunnies come out to nibble. The staff is wonderful, including their huge Newfoundland Leo. They prepared a fabulous pancake breakfast on Saturday morning. Be sure to take a look at the Billy the Kid exhibit in the back hall. It's about 13 miles north of Carlsbad, which is great when you get ready to leave the next day to drive to Albuquerque--no traffic! The drive into town isn't bad. Be sure to check out the Fiesta Drive-in movie! We were able to take in the Living Desert SP and Carlsbad Caverns easily in one day, even staying for the bat flight in the evening. There is nothing about this park we didn't like and we'd stay there again in a minute. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Not much in the way of scenery, but the park is located far enough from town to be very quiet and peaceful. Lots of amenities, very well kept, and the owners live on-site. Used the cable and wireless, both without problems. Attracts a nicer crowd of big rigs and RVs. Highly recommend. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Extremely clean, wide sites. Large campground. Very friendly staff, great breakfast and cheap. Has playground for the kids. Good place for visit to the caves. No Shade!! We camped here in a Motorhome.
Very clean, well-maintained park. Staff was very friendly. All gravel driveways and sites. Pool area was nice. Enjoyed our stay. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We returned for yet another visit to this great KOA (and I don't even like KOAs!!!). That says something since we didn't have the RV on this trip so we tried a cabin. This park is excellent, and shows continuous improvement. It is one of the best parks we have ever stayed at. Much to our surprise the park has new owners as of the first of this year. Very very nice folks who are working super hard. I couldn't imagine how they could improve the place but they have. A couple of new deluxe cabins, more and better landscaping, evidence of fresh paint all over the place! We camped here in a Campground Cabin.
A very good park. The staff was very helpful and very friendly. Told us about the Living Desert Park which was well worth the visit and a highlight of our 7000 mile trek. Great hot tub. We would definitely stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is a very nice KOA. It is only 7 years old and shows it. The trees need a few more years to mature, so shade here is non existent at this time. The new owners just took over and are doing a great job. BBQ delivered to your site is a real bonus. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. The park is quite a drive from the caverns, but worth the trip. The kids loved riding on the firetruck. We would stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Rate is with gold card discount, tax included. My rating of 9 says it all. Would have been a 10 if the pool had been open. It’s an hour away from both the Carlsbad Caverns and the Roswell UFO museum, which was perfect for our purposes. The immaculate tiled showers and restrooms were huge, as were the laundry facilities and the sites. Great cable, WIFI and scenery. We ordered the barbeque (chicken, beef brisket, pork ribs and sausage with (stuffed) twice-baked potatoes and it was delivered exactly when requested and very good, both taste and portion-wise. We would go significantly out of our way to stay here again if we ever return to the area. We camped here in a Motorhome.
A very nice park with friendly staff. They went out of their way to tell us about local attractions. We were guided to our site by a staff member on a golf cart. Camp store/gift shop was very nice. Great BBQ dinners are available delivered right to your coach! Rabbits, quail and road runners abound throughout the sites. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Although north of Carlsbad and fifty minutes from the Carlsbad Caverns this is a very good campground to stay at to explore the area. The signage to the campground was good. There was plenty of space to park in front of the office to register. The office staff were efficient and very friendly. All sites are pull-thus which are flat, wide and have the full hook-up services in the right position. Electricity was good, water pressure good but the water was very hard. There were two excellent dog walks. The campground was immaculate. There appeared to be a tendency for the office staff to allocate the sites nearer to the office and rest rooms first as there was no rest rooms at the far end of campground. New owners have just taken over the campground and seem to be maintaining the high standards already established. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is the best campground we have ever stay in. The grounds are immaculate, the office staff go out of their way to make your stay the best. They have dinner available and will deliver it to your rig. We will definitely stay at this campground again when we are in this area. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This is one of the best campgrounds in which I have ever stayed. The sites were large, the restrooms and showers were superb, and the staff was great. They even delivered dinner to your motorhome and have a goldfish pond next to the hot tub. I will definitely go back and stay for a longer period of time. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Great staff eager to help. Sites, laundry and restrooms very clean. A little remote for visits to Carlsbad Caverns (one hour drive). We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
All campgrounds in Carlsbad were booked or to small for us. Not this place. Mega pull thru sites and lots of room to get in and out with big rigs. They are 17 miles from Carlsbad. Their "Cable TV" has 15 channels. Very nice free Wi-Fi. Nice and quiet at night. We stayed here four nights. Only complaint is it's overpriced. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Great huge sites. I was able to get a pull through site with enough room for my 40 footer, pulling a Ford Excursion, and I didn't have to unhook. They both fit in the spot! It had quite a bit of elbow room and I loved it. They also have 2 dog runs that are fenced in and clean. My dogs really enjoyed the ability to run around and play catch. The views of the mountains are beautiful, and the place is very family-friendly. No noise at all. I was able to jog around the park at night and it was a very safe and comfortable place. Also, as mentioned by previous postings, they offer BBQ delivered to your rig. I place my order and it showed up nice and hot, and was a great tasting BBQ and a great value considering the amount of meat and veggies included. I would absolutely recommend this place, as the staff is very nice and considerate. They even added notes, by hand, to local maps to help you find your way to the attractions (like Carlsbad Caverns). Top notch service. (I can't remember the rate I paid so I guessed $50 above). We camped here in a Motorhome.
Although this is by far the nicest KOA we have stayed at I am unable to give it a very high rating. This was our third visit to this KOA. Each time we have found it to be very very well kept, neat as a pin and well maintained. The facilities are excellent, and the layout is as well. So you ask why not the highest rating well because regardless of how nice the park itself is you can’t make up for poor management. First off, $38 is a lot of money for any park that is not a “destination” park and a legitimate five star. Second, you can buy them books and send them to school but you can’t seem to make the learning sink in! Why, with well over 100 sites and under 30 guests do they have to jam everyone together? This seems to be a trend as the more distant sites are starting to have weeds growing out of the gravel from lack of use. Next, how about having cable TV that works for $38 a night! Maybe a little more water pressure would help as well. I may sound as though I am picking a bit, but we were very excited to return to this park and very let down once we arrived. It’s now off our list for good. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This appears to be a newer KOA and "out of the box". This is one of the better KOA's set up with wide, long, level pull-thru sites, in wide-open spaces w/young trees that didn't block our satellite signal. We had friends from another local park visit us and it was so great to have BBQ dinner served right to our site. We'd return again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Very well kept KOA. Large flat spaces, lever with a little grass in each spot and picnic tables. If your AC doesn't work don't go here, by 11:00 it is close to 100 degrees and stays in the 100's until past 6:00 p.m. Swimming pool refreshing, Internet signal strong. My kids enjoyed watching all the road runners and cotton tails. Many pull through sites. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Great park. The best camp host I have ever encountered. They actually escorted me to our site, spent a few minutes with me then poured some bleech solution on the water fawcet to sanitize......I've never seen this. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Great park for the caverns area. North of Carlsbad but worth the trip to stay here. Friendly staff with cooked to order breakfast. Fire truck ride at dusk for the kids really made the stay. Wide sites with plenty of room. The only drawback is gravel roads and sites so could get dusty but this would not stop us from coming here again if in the area. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Large, level sites. Good laundry facilities. Friendly staff. BBQ dinners delivered to sites. No convenience or grocery stores within 20 miles. We camped here in a Motorhome.
From the moment you arrive this KOA is clearly nicer than most all others. The staff is warm and friendly and the grounds are impeccable. Plenty of amenities offered including free, lightning fast wi-fi. Especially nice is the dinner menu offered six nights per week. After a long day's journey it's a pleasure to have someone else cook and deliver your meal right to your site. The roads and sites are gravel and a bit dusty when the wind blows but overall this park is tops. If the roads and sites were paved I would rate this park a perfect 10. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Free Wifi and free cable tv...excellent showers and restrooms...can get a bit windy here, don't open your awning. Overall, great RV park! We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Young trees provide little shade, and the reason for my rating but otherwise a great park in a quiet desert setting. Owners & staff were very friendly. Baths, showers, and grounds were spotless. Wide, level, packed gravel sites. Pet friendly with 2 fenced dog walks. Cartoon Network, pool, and playground for the kids. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
All KOAs should be like this one. Outstanding, large, level sites, easy ingress and egress, friendly people, probably one of the best KOAs in the country. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We stayed here three weeks while exploring the southeast region of New Mexico. Overall this is an excellent campground with very well maintained facilities. Well stocked store. The sites are all wide pull-throughs and level with easy access to hookups. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended! We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
What a great surprise this KOA turned out to be! We limped in when our truck broke down and they were very helpful. Excellent park, very well maintained with ALL the amenities. Super friendly staff, great roads, sites, pool, landscaping (given that it IS the New Mexico desert they have made an extra effort here). Fenced in pet yards (two of them) and a huge pet walk area. They also have a good restaurant, and deliver to your RV! Wish we could have stayed longer than two days but we had to move on. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Carlsbad KOA campground is a jewel in the desert. It is absolutely the best campground I have stayed in. The staff and owners are incredible. The sites are large and level. The campground is meticulously maintained and the bathrooms are pristine. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
We stayed here for a few days while visiting the Carlsbad Caverns. This campground is very nice with large pull through sites and very nice owners. They have a "no refund" policy you should note so you might get a day or so initially and extend your stay as needed day to day. There is a good dog area also. One note is that if you are staying here to visit the Carlsbad Caverns that the park is not - not near the caverns. It is several miles on the north of Carlsbad city and the caverns are several miles to the south of the city. It is quite a drive to the caverns from this park and there are parks located in Carlsbad city that would be OK to use for the caverns tours. For the geographical location and gravel sites, I think the price is a little high, but the park is nice. There are no conveniences very closeby so buy your groceries before getting there. Side note: we found a Mexican restaurant named Cortez in Carlsbad city that was very good. We camped here in a Motorhome.
While this campground is quite aways outside Carlsbad, the wrong direction from Carlsbad Caverns, it is well worth the drive to stay there. Big, wide open sites. Very friendly and helpful staff, clean bathrooms. What more could you ask for? We highly recommend staying here. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
We attended a state rally here at the end of April. The owners were so accomodating and made us feel welcome. Sites were spacious and a good distance apart. However, the trees need to hurry and grow up so some shade is provided. There is not a bad site in the whole park. The bathrooms, laundry room, meeting room, etc... were immaculate. The gift shop had nice quality gifts and a thoughtful supply of needed items one might have forgotten to pack. They offer great BBQ meals that are delivered to your campsite. Talk about service! The landscaping around the buildings, cabins, tent area, and pool/spa areas were very attractive. The cabins seemed very nice and include a grill and a outside swinging bench. You could tell that the owners thought about every little detail regarding the campground layout and amenities. The campground is near a lake, conveniently located off the highway, and is not too far from two towns, a national park, and national forest. We highly recommend this RV park (we are picky) and will definitely stay here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
One of the newest KOA's, this campground promises to be wonderful once the trees grow up. The store offers everything a camper might need, the restrooms and showers are beautifully decorated and immaculate, there's a unique tent corral, the many pull-thru sites are wide, and the cabins are comfortable and secure. The owners have added extra conveniences like flagstone surrounds around the fire pits and an exceptionally long dog walk area. The swimming pool wasn't open when we were there but the attractive hot tub was. This campground is located far enough away from the highway that you don't get any road noise. The only reason I gave this CG a 9 is because the trees are so small. I will definitely go back. We camped here in a .
