We chose this park because we were traveling with family who stayed in a cabin at this park. Being frugal, we chose a Standard Back-In site. These sites are on the North end of the park and closer to the highway. These particular sites are packed very close together. The rest of the sites are behind a row of cabins. The patrons of this park totally disregarded the 5 mph speed limit even though it is posted at least 4 times along the row that our site was on. In hind sight, it would probably been worth the extra $2 per night for a Premium Back-In site as they are further away from the highway and spaced further apart. All of the picnic tables and riverfront decks were very weathered or broken. The web site states cable TV as one of the amenities, but is only available in the cabins. The cabin that our family rented was not very clean. In fact, there was still hair in the bathtub drain. When we made reservations, we indicated that we would have a dog staying in the cabin and would be crated inside while we rode the train. The person on the phone offered that they would come and let the dog out in the middle of the day for us. When we arrived, they said that they did not know who told us that and they would not let the dog out. As far as this place being called a "resort", that is a big stretch. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This campground has a nice location on the Chama River. We stayed there on a very busy Memorial Day weekend. Our two biggest problems were they did not have enough trash containers to accommodate a holiday weekend, causing trash to overflow the dumpsters. Also, the bathrooms did not appear to get cleaned until most of the holiday crowd left. We felt that this could be a nice campground with more active management. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Nice location on the banks of the Chama River. Park seems to be suffering from lack of active management and the facilities, while marginally acceptable, would benefit from more attention to detail. There were a number of longer term residents along one side of the park but their rigs were neat and well kept. Park has some long pull throughs which would work for a big-rig, towing, without having to unhitch. No cable TV, so make sure you get a site where satellite tv access is not blocked by trees. Verizon cell service worked well here and also data access via air card. Good location to visit the Toltec-Cumbres steam train in Chama and see the beautiful countryside. All in all, a decent place to stay for a while. We enjoyed our stay and would stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We spent a week here and were somewhat disappointed with the quality of the "resort". The web site greatly misrepresents the park; while it shows riverfront sites with patios, there are only four in the park; and the patios are very worn. All of the other sites are close to each other with either dead grass or weeds that were not mowed during our visit. We paid for a "waterfront premium site" which apparently means that you're within 100 yards of walking to the river. The park is very popular and was crowded during our visit; but was quiet at night, even during the Fourth of July. A good location if you're visiting the area and riding the Cumbres/Toltec Railroad; but don't expect solitude, this is a very popular vacation spot and if you visit during the summer you'll need reservations. We would try another of the local parks if we visit this area again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We stayed here for the weekend. This is a wonderful park with many activities available. Facilities were clean. Sites by the water are beautiful. From what we could see most sites are close but do not feel crowded. There is great fishing in the river, especially for the fly fishermen out there. Staff was friendly and helpful. There is a very convenient RV repair shop close by if you need it. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Nice location near river. Some sites on river for an extra charge. We we're early in the season so lots of weeding an general upkeep was being done. Some sites were more level that others. Park had quite a large group of full time local workers which seemed to give the park a somewhat different feel. One truck driver arrived home in the evening in his work truck a very large diesel long haul truck. Overall good for the price and the best in the area. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This a pleasant, quiet little park located in the town of Chama and on the banks of the Chama River. We had a large site on the river's edge with nice views. Our only complaint is that the rate seemed way too high for off-season. The scenic train ride had shut down for the winter and park was nearly empty. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Nice RV park in the mountains. Beautiful river running behind the camp...very scenic. We will return if ever back this way. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Nice park with cabins also. Long pull thrus and nice grass. Pet friendly. Conveient to town but enough off the road so no road noise. We camped here in a Motorhome.
A beautiful little campsite set amongst a lot of trees. Lots of space and grass between sites. Level, gravel parking area. Close to town and train ride. We stayed two days in a fifth wheel. Really enjoyed our stay here. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This place if fabulous. Right on the river, lots of birdwatching, nice, shady sites, the train passes right by, within walking distance of town, friendly staff, clean restroom with plenty of hot water - it's almost heaven. I would have stayed forever if they hadn't told me they get 20 feet of snow in winter! We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
The park now has free WI-FI. Staff was friendly and helpful. 50 amp sites are more expensive. The train is the reason we are here, but this is a nice park to stay at with or without the train. We arrived at 2:30 in the afternoon on a Monday without a reservation. There were only a couple of sites available. During June and August the park is full of members of the Friends of the C&TS RR who are volunteering to work on the railroad. Reservations may be a good idea. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Boy, this place has it all. Big trees, running stream, steam locomotive bridge, fishing, secluded tent campsites, morning coffee, free firewood, and even the occasional bear visit. Restrooms/showers clean and neat. Staff was very helpful and courteous. Very pleasant, laid back campground... We camped here in a Motorhome.
We came here specifically to enjoy the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railway, along with some “down time”, and we were not disappointed on either front. The train ride was spectacular, as expected. Our “down-time” was wonderful because of the bird-watching right outside our door. Some of the birds, we had never seen before, including Lewis’s Woodpecker. We were able to get a satellite-friendly site, although most of the sites are in the trees. The rates have gone up since a year ago, as our rate was based on a weekly rate. Needless to say, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would return in a heartbeat!!!! We camped here in a Motorhome.
We chose this campground for its proximity to the Cumbres and Toltec Narrow Gage Railroad and were not disappointed as the train passes practically through the grounds. The campground itself features graveled sites and is well maintained. Maneuvering a large rig is a bit of a challenge as some turns are a bit tight. Management friendly and helpful and rate very reasonable. Good shade, sites fairly level. Especially attractive to train geeks (like myself). We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This is one of our favorite campgrounds. The managment is friendly and aims to please. A lot of full timers work here. It is heavily wooded and very rustic and quiet. There is not a lot for kids to do since there is no pool or playground, but the Chama River affords a lot of chances to fish. The Cumbres and Toltec train (steam engine) runs through the campground at 10:00 am and then also late afternoon. A great sight seeing that steam engine come through the woods! Campers go down to the river to wait for the train and take pictures or wave at the people riding it. Chama Valley a great place to get away from it all and this campground the best. Chama is a small, quiet town with only a few shops. 40 miles away is Pagosa Springs, CO and from there you can go up Wolf Creek Pass and see some beautiful country. The drive north out of Chama along the train route is also a beautiful drive. Only negative is that in July there can be a mosquito issue. Otherwise, perfect place to go and veg. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is a good park with some great pull-thrus, next to a river. The river has a bridge and provides fairly good fishing and recreation. We visited during the summer of 2006 and the winter 2005 and found the hosts to be really nice, friendly, and helpful. Winter daily rates were $15; summer (daily) were $28. We camped here in a Motorhome.
OK park for the area, it has a 'state park' feel, very heavily wooded. For rustic campers, it is perfect. For RVers who want Wifi, phone and cable, not so good. In season, a steam locomotive runs beside the park and there is a very nice mountain stream as well. This is a remote area with only a couple of small restaurants, but perfect for someone who wants to get away from it all! Our cell phones didn't even have a signal anywhere in the area. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Wonderful camping with nice shaded sites. Most sites are pull thru. Nice tent camping area. Restrooms are clean and neat. Pets welcomed but must be on leash and not left unattended outside. Near the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. Campground has a collection of railroad cars onsite. River fishing right outside the campground. We camped here in a camper.
Stayed there 4 nights in a river view site. The hosts are wonderful and very helpful. This is really a great RV park, run by some very good caring folks, we will go back. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Excellent! We stayed one month and were so happy here. All facilities, including laundry, showers and restrooms were new and very well kept. The most enjoyable thing about the stay was the couple who own Sky Mountain Park. They were helpful in parking our RV, we used their WiFi for free, they printed out a form we needed from email, furnished change for the laundry and gave us all information we asked for about the area. We are fulltimers and will spend one or two months here in the summer every year. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Advantage - live on site owners eager to please. Location is excellent. Shower room is "almost like home". Far enough off highway to be quiet. Lots and lots of stars (in the sky). We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Sky Mountain Resort RV Park was delightful, clean, quiet, scenic, spacious and user friendly. The owners went out of their way to make guests feel at home. We hope to return in the future and plan to stay for a much longer period of time. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Beautiful setting on the Chama river in the Cottonwood trees. Sites were not very level but quite a bit of room between them. Owners were very friendly and helpful. Nice, quite park. Would stay here again if in the area. We camped here in a Motorhome.
First the people are great, very friendly, very helpful with all your needs. The campgrounds and the bath house are very clean and updated. The setting is near the Chama river and sits under cottonwood trees. It is quiet and very beautiful. We needed help with parking our trailer and they were very willing to help. We also needed a pump for the trailer and they helped us with the location of trailer parts. They take reservations, so we plan on going back. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

This park is under new management in 2007. They had just opened for the season and I was the only one in the park for two days. The bathroom and laundry facilities were brand new. WiFi and cable TV were not available while I was there. It is located in a beautiful setting along the river with adjacent pasture lands and views of the mountains. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
We made reservations two months ahead but arrived at the campground, toured it, and moved on to another. It had permanent trailers parked and sites looked unkempt. It just gave an overall appearence of being rundown. Would not make reservations again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
A well maintained park located near the main intersection in Chama. The pull throughs were long and wide. Many of the picnic tables were under shelters. The free WiFi signal from the Chama Visitors Center was accessible from a number of campsites. Convenient to the scenic railroad which runs from Chama into Colorado and back. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
