Was crowded as all State Parks are usually. The camp host was nice and showed us to our spot. We stayed 3 days and enjoyed this quiet, peaceful place, not too much noise. If you want to dry camp it is great. The phone service spotty, Wal-Mart phones won't work. In our spot we could not tune in Directv on account of the hills and trees, but some people could through the trees. Anyway a nice place to spend a couple of days. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This park is best for anglers and hikers who don't mind dry camping. The scenery is majestic and the river is stocked with rainbow trout. Try to get a spot in Maverick Campground, which has shade and is next to the Gravel Pit Lakes fishing area. The other campgrounds (Ponderosa and Tolby) are just big parking lots. Wildlife is abundant: we saw skunk and a large bear which the ranger had to scare away. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Overpriced for what you get. They recently canceled their cable TV so you can use either your rooftop antenna or satellite dish. Wi-Fi is a household router that works if there aren't more than 2 or 3 others connected. Gravel sites with old picnic tables and little else for amenities. They are right off the highway and convenient to Philmont Scout Ranch, but other than that they don' have much going for them other than friendly owners. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Good for a night or two to learn about the area. Friendly owners. Life in Cimarron moves at a slower pace than the rest of the world so relax and enjoy the culture. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
