This park is a great place to stay if you like a no rule enforcement park. And lots of dust accompanied by inconsiderate proprietors. Loud racket can be heard at anytime in the early A.M and that does not include the barking dogs that live on the premises. The clubhouse has been renovated with no thought of a fire escape door. Just a few things to consider. My wife and I stayed here for a few weeks and glad it was no longer. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

We went looking around at different RV parks in the area, and came across this one. Our first thought was "Parking Lot" The sites are very close together, with little to no room to move around, much less park a motor home. When we visited, there was a pit bull running loose without a leash or human in sight, and a lot of the sites looked to not have been picked up in a very long time. The views others describe do not make up for an unkempt and cramped RV park. We decided after seeing that, that we would not stay at Agua Vista. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This is a nice quiet small park located outside of Elephant Butte and about 15 min. to Truth Or Consequences. After checking out the other parks around the area we liked this one for it's location, price and friendliness of owners. The owner is very friendly and helpful, willing to help with anything they can. The park roads are gravel and there is dust, it is the high desert! Very nice view of the lake. Don't know why people said there were no showers or bathrooms. There are and they are nice. The laundry room has 3 washers and 3 Huge dryers. We stayed here for almost three months. No night lights all over to glare in. Pool is very nice and no other park around has one. They don't have cable TV but do offer Direct Network for a very small fee. Have free WiFi which is a pretty good connection. Would stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Immediately upon arrival, my spouse says, "I'm not camping here." The "no frills" description in the other review is spot on. This park is a small, dusty, parking lot north of downtown Elephant Butte. On the plus side, the hookups worked great and there were no outside night lights. It was pitch dark after sunset: perfect for astronomy buffs. Of the 3 amenities this park has, the pool and hot tub were closed, and the Wi-Fi was worse than average speed and reliability. The only reason I didn't rate this park lower is that it seems comparable to others in the area. We camped here in a Motorhome.

You should be as impressed with Auga Vista RV Park as I was. If you are seeking a nice, quiet, family-run and oriented park that sits away from the usual hustle-bustle tourist trap style of RV park. I love it here. Really though, the park's best feature & attraction for me is actually the family that owns & operates it, as they are absolutely the friendliest, most kind and generous people I have ever met. You cannot ask for and will not find anyone as pleasant and open. Now that is how a park is supposed to be operated! Far as the park itself, it does have the amenities other parks have and then some. Yes, it does have showers (not sure why the other reviewers never saw them), and they are the nicest, largest and cleanest showers I've ever seen in an RV park. Great view of the lake, a spacious clubhouse with numerous satellite cable TV channels, plus wireless internet, though it is satellite also, and users must abide by the 'sharing the bandwidth' rules. Simply means that you shouldn't be uploading & downloading large files etc. Then there's the new large L-shaped swimming pool, something it seems none of the other parks has to my knowledge, but wait!! I've saved the best for last...the quiet tranquility of the night time! No glaring parking lot lights here, so all the splendor of the stars & skies is on display after dark. Comets galore, along with the coyote howls and no highway/traffic noise combine to make a great night's rest possible at last! As you can see, I was very impressed and highly recommend you visit Agua Vista RV Park when in the T or C/Elephant Butte area. And no, in case you are wondering, I am not a park employee or relative, just a suitably impressed and somewhat weary traveler who has seen far too many parks that are polar opposites of this park! A no frills park with a beautiful view of Elephant Butte lake! CG manager is friendly and helpful. CG has back-in and pull-thru sites with plenty of room for our 37' fifth wheel and truck. No shower facilities, but there is a nice laundry room. Sites are gravel, fairly level and each site has a fire pot. CG has a pool, but it was not open while we were there. Hot tub was open and was nice size and clean. Sitting outside, we saw quail, roadrunners, sand cranes, coyotes, amazing starry night skies and beautiful sunrises most every day. Elephant Butte has a population of approx. 1400 and "next door" Truth or Consequences about 7300. Even though the towns are small, there are some interesting places to visit, both there and nearby. The stated rate is based on the monthly rate of $175.00 and also includes metered electric. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Very friendly, well managed park. Easy access from I-25. Lots of space, & pull through sites. Level, gravel sites, many with concrete pad. Some of the nicest wash/shower rooms I've seen. Its in the NM desert, so no grass or trees, but close to Elephant Butte Reservoir. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

The rate reflects a weekly stay. The roads are gravel and well packed. The staff was friendly and gave us a tour of the facilities. We had an escort to our site. The landscaping is well done and just needs to grow a bit. There is a cell tower in the campground. Our site was level and had a paved patio without a picnic table. There is plenty of room to maneuver. The facilities are clean and nice; there is a full kitchen you can use with permission. We enjoyed a campfire at the communal fire pit; everything was furnished. There are ghost towns to visit, the Space Port to tour, and of course everything to do that comes with a huge lake. T&C has restaurants and some shopping. It also has marvelous mineral spring pools that we highly recommend. We wouldn’t hesitate to come again if in the area. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Cedar Cove RV Park is just on the outskirts of Elephant Butte, New Mexico. It offers flat, gravel, pull through sites, nice bath facilities and conveniently located dumpsters. They also have a book exchange/library and free loaner DVDs. It doesn’t provide site picnic tables or on site fire pits and contrary to its advertisement, it doesn’t offer free wi-fi unless you consider $5.00 per day for Tengointernet a free service. They will be changing their web site to reflect a wi-fi charge. It has a large microwave tower in the center of the park so it is easily located. Our Verizon cell and mi-fi worked well; 101.1FM was the only worthwhile radio station we could find, and we could not pull in any NOAA radio stations to get the local weather, so Elephant Butte is kind of remote. One of New Mexico’s 10 best golf courses with restaurant ( Sierra del Sol at the Turtle Mountain Resort ) is located within 4 miles of this campground. After 1PM they offer 18 holes of golf with a cart for 35.00, so if you’re a golfer, don’t miss it. The golf course is new and doesn’t show up on the GPS, but it’s definitely worth locating and playing. Truth or Consequences (the natives refer to it as “TorC” ) is just down the road and because of it’s size it offers more dining opportunities than Elephant Butte. If camping here, the New Mexico ghost towns of Cucillo and Chloride ( search Winston, NM on your GPS to find these towns) offer some interesting history/viewing and of course downtown “TorC” has public hot tubs to try for a variety of fees. There are lots of camping opportunities in this area, and the Elephant Butte Reservoir, New Mexico’s largest lake, is the area’s big attraction. If we returned to the area we might try the state park to be on the water or Elephant Butte Lake Resort which is nearing completion. One related aside, if you travel from Elephant Butte to Silver City via Hillsboro, be aware that there are 2 bridges just west of Hillsboro that are only 12’6” high – too low for many motor homes to pass under. We found that out just in time to avoid them by going through Deming. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Very nice park. Rate show is based on a monthly stay. The gravel sites are wide and each has a concrete patio. The one negative on my site was the sewer connection was poorly placed and required 20' of hose. I will stay here again if I'm in the area. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This was a nice, quiet campground, and the staff were very friendly. Our only concern was just that the water hookup was very close to the sewer hookup. We thought that was a little unusual. It was a nice RV park and we will stay there again if we are in the area. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Well, because our RV was an 1987 it wasn't good enough for their park, so they declined us access. We were needing to stay for a few months to take care of elderly. I was really saddened by this. There is nothing wrong with my RV, other than it's a 1987 and not new enough. What a shame would never ever want to stay somewhere like this to snooty. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Rate based on monthly rate. Electric is additional. This park has undergone major upgrades just since we arrived in November of 2010,and it was already the nicest park in the area. There is a brand new and very nice addition to the clubhouse, additional space and machines in the (reasonably priced) laundry, and two more terrific rest rooms. Those rooms have great showers with fold-down padded seats in them, and they're luxuriously spacious. I don't normally rhapsodize over rest rooms, but really, these are by far the nicest I've ever seen in an RV park at any price, and as with everything else, they're kept spotlessly clean. The managers and work campers are friendly and very customer-oriented and helpful. Most of the sites are larger than average, and the 50-amp power has been very solid, even during an amazing cold snap that had everybody using electric heaters as well as their propane ones. The water pressure is fine, too. We've stayed in some fine RV parks, and this one surely is right up there. There's room in the clubhouse for group crafts, potlucks, and game nights. There's a large book exchange and video takeout. The managers are happy to accommodate use of the clubhouse by groups, as long as you let them know when you need it. There's also a nice covered and shaded outdoor patio area at the clubhouse/office, very nice for sitting outside. Of course, this whole area is desert, so don't expect lots of grass and trees! But the landscaping is attractive and well maintained, and the management seriously enforces a low speed limit to keep the man-made dust down. All in all, after looking at all the other parks in the area and after staying at another one last winter and the beginning of this winter, this is the one we'll come back to. We camped here in a Motorhome.

We were going to stop for just one night but stayed longer. Nice park. Staff great. Ongoing work around the park to make it nicer. The area is nice. Played golf at a new golf course nearby. This is so nice I could see us spending the winter here. You are 2 hours south of Albuquerque and 2 hours from El Paso. Las Cruces is about an hour and a half south. This is a very nice southwest campground. We would definitely stay here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice park, easy freeway access, but no noise. Roads and sites are gravel. Very long and level sites, very easy to park. Staff was friendly, laundry was clean. A large part of it is now for RV's only so you have plenty of room to park two vehicles, open the slides or awnings and still walk around. The park is quiet, not crowded, well maintained, and multi-level. Clubhouse facilities are very good. Close to the lake and social activities in the winter months. Reasonable rents make it a good destination park for snow birds. The only reason I didn't rate it higher is no swimming pool. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed at Monticello South. This is without a doubt, our favorite state park in New Mexico. Nice sized sites. We stayed closer to the lake, so only had 30 amp, but, no problems there, or with water hookups. The hosts at this campground, are very friendly, and keep each site immaculate. While the lake was very low, it made for a very quiet campground with few visitors. We stayed two nights, and were able to listen to the owls and the coyotes in the morning. Will always stay here, when passing through. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This campground is the only campground with full hook up located IN the state park. Most sights seem to be taken up by permanent residents so reservations are suggested. There was one large rig site we had to back into, which wasn't the easiest. The woman who runs this campground is very friendly and helpful...even met us out on the road and directed us in since the signage to the sites is lacking. Mostly well kept and monitored with no noise issues. Most convenient to the Dam Site Marina where we rented a boat. No water access except by boat so unless you plan on boating it's not the campsite for you. I would stay here again, if planning to rent a boat otherwise not much else to do. We camped here in a Motorhome.

The park is located on the southeast side of the lake. Signs to the park are not very easy to follow, as you have to drive through the cabin area to get to the RV sites. The sites are unkempt and half of the sites are taken up by residents. Some of the RVs have been there for a number of years and are very unattractive. The center of the Park has a nice area for gathering, plenty of trees, and is the only area that allows campfires. They are not allowed at the individual campsites. Probably will not be returning. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

The Park is expanding and everything is more or less new. The best WiFi we've had on our trip. At night its been pretty quiet. Fifty AMP service at all sites. The expanded sites are not paved but ours was very level. It's a couple of miles to the new Super Walmart in T&C. They have spent some effort in the landscaping in the high desert style. Flowering cactus etc... We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice park. Very convenient to Elephante Butte and Truth or Consequences. Associated with the hotel across the street, allowing campers access to the hotel amenities. Nice clubhouse with several onsite planned activities. A local bluegrass band uses the clubhouse for practice one night a week, and they open it to campers, a nice bonus. Very helpful and friendly staff. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Having just come from a place in Deming where the wind blew at gale force 24/7 with accompanying dust and dirt, we were happy to have gravel and cement. We were here for a rally, and the price reflects a rally 'discount'. Unfortunately the staff did not realize we were part of the rally and so assigned us to a spot in the lower part while all of the other rally attendees were in the upper loop! Not too happy about that. Otherwise we were pleased with the physical set up. It was a clean park with clean facilities. Our site was large enough for both our rig and our truck. No picnic tables in the lower area, some in the upper loop. Nice club house, small but comfortable. They are building a new one. The laundry facilities were nice. No one at the front office told us that the laundry in the upper level was $1 a load more in the laundry in the lower level. We found out for ourselves! Maybe the staff needs a little more training. We would return here. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Restrooms are probably the nicest we have ever run across. The office staff is very friendly and helpful. Nice sized spaces. Never could hook up to wi-fi even though they say it's available, but not a big deal to us. The daily rate is too high for what it is in my mind so we paid for a month and stayed for 2 weeks and it averaged out to a good rate for us. $220 a week but $200 per month, figure that out LOL. I have seen more dogs off leash than anyplace we have ever stayed. That's its only ding from me. But we certainly like the park. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This is a new park, formerly Lakeside but now expanded. Beautifully landscaped, excellent restrooms, showers, and laundry. Friendly staff. Pull throughs are level but very narrow; you can get a double wide back in with a picnic table for $10 more daily. Not enough room for chairs to sit out beside your coach but sites are very long, so there is room in front or back. All hook ups excellent. Good cable; terrible wi-fi. I asked at the desk where the router was so that we could aim our signal extender. The man and lady in the office looked at each other and said, "What's a router?" One reason we selected this park was because of a brochure I picked up at the NM Welcome Center. It stated that this park had an indoor swimming pool and exercise facility completed in 2012. When we arrived, we learned that this has not even been started yet; there is a big blank place in the sand where it's going to be. Yet, they are advertising something that doesn't exist. When I asked about the pool, I was told that I could swim across the street at the Inn in the outdoor pool when it opened in about another month. Well, I won't be there then. This park is off the beaten path; you have to be going to Elephant Butte to go there, so we probably won't be back since we have now been there. It is country quiet at night, which we appreciated. It is by far the nicest park if you are going to Elephant Butte, and we would certainly stay again if in the area. We camped here in a Motorhome.

We stayed 2 nights on the way home, and are very impressed with the cleanliness and layout of the park. Staff are very friendly. Laundry, showers are spotless. We didn't use the dog wash but may next time. Not all that far to a Walmart or Dennys, and the walking path across the street is nice. We would stay again and recommend this to our friends. Rate reflects Passport of America. A good jumping off spot to see Chloride and Winston and other historic sites. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Very nice park with nice views and landscapes. Camp host after hours was very cordial and helpful. We are 64 ft long with cat trailer and the pull-throughs were accommodating. We came in after the office closed but the available sites were posted on the door. The pull-through was gravel and level. The cable and WIFI worked well. The next morning check in/out was pleasant and the rate is PPA. Only odd thing was there was no hot water for a shower at 9pm or washing hands at 7 am. There was hot water at 9 am. I forgot to ask about that. The park is beginning to build an activity/pool building. A real gem. We would stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This is a well maintained campground with friendly and helpful staff at check in, who made sure we had just the site we wanted. Wide concrete access roads, some sites are concrete and some are gravel, which are alway raked after each site is vacated. There is a trash pick up each morning from your site. Very big rig friendly, our site was very wide, plenty of space for a 40 foot motor home and towed, as well as a picnic table. Very quiet, lots of space around the RV, views are limited, but from our motor home we could see the mountains. The laundry is huge and has plenty of washers and dryers, but a little on the expensive side to use. The bathrooms are spotless. There is a dog walk with pick up bags and a dog wash too. WiFi and cell are good. Restaurants and Wal-Mart are a few miles away in Truth or Consequences. The new owner is making lots of improvements, new landscaping which will be wonderful when a little more mature and will give more privacy around your site, a new pool and rec. room are still to come. However, from a motor home perspective the new owner has not always taken advantage of the locations views of the surrounding mountains, with very few of the sites affording motor homes any sort of view. Wow! This park is super clean, and very friendly. They even have people raking the gravel in the sites between guests. This is the only bathroom we have seen where every bathroom has its own locking door with sinks, counters and toilets, plus beautiful tiled showers. Upper park sites are new, so the landscaping is still modest. Very wide concrete driveways throughout the park. Stayed for three nights, but we will return. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

A great RV park! We stayed in the upper level in a pull through site. It was very long and very easy to get into. Too narrow to get a picnic table next to the coach but lots of room in fromt and behind. Good spacing between the sites. The site was level and well graveled with concrete roads. The restrooms were great! There were a number of individual bathrooms with showers. They have a large laundry, a dog wash and a nice gathering area with tables and BBQ. The people were very nice. They have areas to walk the dogs but there is a power line very near the park where you can walk the dogs for a long way. There are some back in sites that are much wider with concrete pads. There is a "lower" area with large, graveled sites. The park is well cared for. It is very close to Elephant Butte lake. It was a great weekend! We will be coming back. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Rate reflects monthly rate. This place is awesome, the staff could not be any friendlier. Whoever laid out the park did an excellent job, big sites, wide streets, great power, good water pressure. The only complaint would be that they need more bandwidth and maybe another repeater, BUT all in all a great park. We had a group of 28 people, 14 rigs all 40 feet or better here for a week. Not one complaint. We will definitely return. We camped here in a Motorhome.

PHENOMENAL!! The owners of this park knew what they were doing when they planned this park. Everything has been A+++++ - from the reservation process - to check in - to the hospitality of the camp hosts - to the dog wash and park. They have containers at the dog park with bags for pick-up and the camp hosts picked up garbage right at your site. It's extremely clean - electrical and water hook-ups are something to behold. Level lots. Short term and long term spaces are well planned and designed. We will definitely be back!! We camped here in a Motorhome.

Checked into this park a few days ago. AMAZING. First let me explain my rate. I took a premium site upper level (the most expensive) for a one week stay. For another 50 bucks I can switch to a one month stay. Go figure? Whatever I decide my rate will be 11 bucks or less per night! That's hard to beat for what I've experience here so far. This is an extremely clean park. Also extremely quiet day & night. Our space is 100% level & was very easy to back into. All utilities on the money. P.S. they have HUGE pull-thrus. Also nice restaurant ,pool, & exercise room across the street. Been told we get a discount there! Staff so far has been very efficient. Can't wait to try the nearby hot springs, or did they say mineral springs ? What the heck, I'll check them out. Again, we have our own sat. systems so I can't speak for their tv,phone,or wifi systems. One last thing. I feel that no matter how "fantastic" a park may be, I should save the 9 & 10 ratings for any mega park that is also "fantastic" but has added lots of additional facilities for everyone's entertainment. Monday afternoon check-in. No one at the office, but clear directions on where to park until the next morning. HUGE pull-through with multiple hook-up locations at each site. Clean, well-maintained, spotless. The majority of sites are back-in and look like folks here for a bit. The pull-through appear set up for travelers. Spotless laundry and shower rooms. Meeting room and patio area with tables and BBQ's. Next morning check-in was flawless with a very friendly host. We used our Passport America. Very decent price for this kind of park. Appears geared toward adults. No playground or pool but they have an agreement or relationship with an Inn across the street to use their pool facilities for free. It also includes 10% or more off at their spa and a restaurant next door. They are dog friendly with a small enclosed dog run and indoor dog wash. Dog cookies at check-in. At the end of a long day of traveling, this is just the place we needed! Our GPS got us lost but the park employees spent time with us on the phone and step by step got us here to the park. That extra special help was only the beginning of a wonderful stay. The employees seem to go out of the way to make our stay here the best in a long, long time. The park is new with wide and long pull-thrus, level and more than accommodating for our 42 ft motor home. The showers were as clean as I would want at home and very appealing. We will make this a stop twice a tear from now on! We are full timers and only wish that all the other parks we visit we're as nice as this one. If I could rate it honestly, it would get a 11 on the scale of 1 to 10! We camped here in a Motorhome.

We enjoyed a 4 day/night stay here. It is one of the nicest, cleanest, quietest in our travels thus far. The facilities are of a hotel quality. The owners have listened to their guests and implemented suggestions. The owner also stated that they did tons of research as they built the place and it shows in all the extra touches of comfort and class. Elephant Butte Lake State Park is within walking distance and has many hiking opportunities. The plant and bird life is worth seeing. We will be back! By the way, monthly rate is very reasonable! Everything here is new or kept like new. New indoor pool and exercise room planned for 2012. There is a nice variety in sites but all are quite large. Two excellent coin laundries on site as well as a dog wash Garbage pickup is at your site daily instead of using smelly barrels or dumpsters. Wi-Fi connection was excellent but bandwidth was limited. The staff was nice and friendly. Wi-Fi was not good at all. Site was long enough and easy enough to level. It is hard to call this a resort when the facilities are all across the street in a motel. We think this park is overpriced for what is there. However, it is a quiet place except for the sound of coyotes every once in a while. This is a new park. Staff was very friendly and helpful. It had only been open a couple weeks. The rates are cheaper in the older section , which is adjacent to the newer one. Not much to do in the town of Ellephant Butte. There is a nice golf course nearby with an excellent restaurant. It was really windy while we were there but we would stay there again. The rate is Passport. The rating is for cleanliness. There is not a speck of debris anywhere. The gravel is level, and the sites are long and wide. There are a few pine and mesquite trees, and rocks outline the common areas which are cactus and other desert plants. We could not get on their internet, but now that we have mifi we just need Verizon, and that was good. We have stopped here in previous years and plan to return. We camped here in a Motorhome.

It used to be the nicest RV park in the area. Times have changed. The park is in serious disrepair. The staff treats guests like they are a bunch of middle school children. You go there for relaxation, don't need to be scolded for going 6 in a 5 mph zone, talking too loudly after dark, the list goes on & on. Who needs this abuse !!! The price is the highest in Elephant Butte, and used to be worth money, but not any more. There are better parks for way less money close by. Do your homework, and go elsewhere. After reading the post below the wife wasn't sure about coming, but since we were only going to stay one night I said let's give it a try. They are doing some work. The plants that the freeze got, are being cleaned out. Also, looks like more sites are going in. Were lead to the site by a friendly host. The roads and sites are gravel and our site was 100% level. Side to side, front to rear. Lots of channels on cable TV. Wasn't able to get Wi-Fi at the trailer, until we put up our exterior Wi-Fi antenna. Very quiet. Easy in and out with a HDT and 36 ft trailer (60 ft combo). We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

After spending some time here last spring we put this park on our list of stay again parks. The staff had been very friendly and helpful. Boy were we in for a surprise when we returned. The park is dusty and it looks like they are no longer are concerned with taking care of the roads. The atmosphere has changed dramatically. Too bad it hasn’t been for the good. The staff members that checked us in smelled like a brewery. The woman, while she was not as bad as her male counterpart, was still very intoxicated. My husband wasn’t really comfortable following the directions from the male staff member who led us to our site. This man could barely string a sentence together he was so drunk. We arrived shortly after dark. When we awoke the next morning we were disappointed to find the condition of the park in such sad shape. The trees have been cut leaving no shade at all and the vegetation is all dying. Dead cactus plants are everywhere; the gardens my husband loved have been neglected for some time it seems. All of this and they have raised the rates! It’s hard to believe a place can go so far downhill in less than a year. After talking to a few of the fulltime residents, we realized a complaint to management would do no good. The plants apparently died in a freeze but have just been left to rot. Since we were only staying a night or two we didn’t bother to let our disappointment be known. We just won’t be returning. The price is too high and they offer nothing that would justify the current nightly and weekly rates. We camped here in a Motorhome.

We stayed here one night on our way back to Denver. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They guided us to our site and helped some with set up. The 7 rating is due to a couple of things. First, to have a name like lakeside you would think that they were located near a lake. But you can not see the state park lake from their location at all. Next, they did have Wi-Fi but it was very weak. There also were no picnic tables at the sites but the sites were very wide (wide enough for our truck to fit in next to our trailer). Overall, if I was going through the area again I would stay in the state park. Much nicer sites and they do have a view of the lake and they are much cheaper. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Lakeside is the nicest park we have stayed at. This is our 3rd visit, and although we miss the former managers, the new managers are doing a fine job. There was some tension in the park when we arrived, but whatever it was, has been worked out. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Rate shown is based on the monthly rate, electricity is additional. This is a hard review to write, since we enjoyed our stay at this park last winter and were very much looking forward to a repeat this year. We made many friends, including people who had been returning here for anywhere from 3 to 7 years, who considered the park their second home. Unfortunately, the entire atmosphere had changed drastically, and it became clear that the management, especially the new 'co-manager,' had no use for any of us. There was no reason for this – we’re a group of middle-aged and senior adults, who like to laugh and have a good time but who don’t cause trouble, drink too much and become unruly, or make messes we don’t clean up. Several of us asked to talk directly to the owner to try to help him realize what was happening so he wouldn't lose the core of his winter business. We knew he wasn't involved in the day-to-day running of the park and would only be hearing what the managers told him, but he wouldn't meet with us, either individually or collectively. Each couple who arrived noticed that something was wrong, but to everyone’s credit, no one spread a bunch of negativity or rumors as people arrived. Each of us had to find out for ourselves that for reasons we were never able to find out, we had become unwelcome. The result was that over a dozen rigs gave up and left for another park in town. None of the guests who left were rude or nasty to the managers, and we remained civil even as we were unhappily deciding to leave. Unfortunately, the managers have chosen to behave quite badly, and have returned important packages and mail to the senders, rather than calling to let individuals know they had mail to pick up, or forwarding items to our new address, which they know. They have, when some of us have gone back to the park to visit friends, given us incredibly nasty looks and attitude, and even threatened to have a couple of visitors thrown out of the park, or even arrested, for simply driving in and going to a friend's space! Though maintenance has fallen off somewhat, it's an attractive desert park. The spaces are large enough, the utilities work, the Wi-Fi works, and the clubhouse and activities are pleasant. We were pleased with the facilities, and with the hospitality we received last year. There was a significant rate increase this winter, but though no one was told of it ahead of time, we still would have stayed had the atmosphere remained pleasant. I'm sure that anyone going there now won't have a problem (unless they're looking for any of us who left, as the managers have refused to tell friends who dropped by where we were.) It's interesting to note that on the park's website, the pictures of people enjoying both the park and some of the nearby attractions are people who have left the park. It would surely be more honest if those pictures were removed from the website and replaced with pictures and testimonials from current guests. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Having returned to Lakeside for the 3rd winter I was very pleased to see that the park was still so beautifully kept. The leaves have been swept from the grounds and the shrubs clipped back. I can't wait to see the cactus gardens bloom in the spring! I'm sure they will be spectacular. I was also pleased to see familiar faces in the office and was not disappointed with how helpful and friendly everyone was. The first night at "Lakeside" a blue grass band played in the lounge. Every night there is a social hour. A calendar of events lists game nights and potluck dinners. Prices vary depending on your preferences; 30 amp or 50 amp, garden sites, back-in sites, cable etc. No one likes to pay for services they don't need or want. The office offers help with just about anything you can think of including propane delivery, mail and local information. The Elephant Butte state park entrance is within walking distance. The hot tubes in Truth or Consequences are 5 minutes away. There is good Wi-Fi connection and most sites have cable. Sites are medium to large and are level. The park is expanding and I look forward to all the new and wonderful improvements (including an indoor pool). Having been to many many RV parks I am always astounded at how reasonable the price is for this beautiful park. We camped here in a Motorhome.

We were here about the same time last year. When my wife tried to use the facilities she was treated shabbily by the hosts and a group of people who had basically taken "ownership" of the entire park. This park is well kept and close to the lake. While we decided to stay, we had no further interaction with the people that hung around the lounge, because they were so nasty, rude and close-knit. It was like High school. Because we have family in the area, we have returned this year and have found the place has changed for the better. Now all are welcome to use the lounge and we actually feel welcome. This was not the case last year and it almost prompted us to leave. We planned on staying for only a week but since the problem host and their friends have been removed from the park, we have decided to stay a few months. Staff has put a Wii in the lounge and we have had a blast playing bowling with the other guests. We are glad that we can take part in park activities without feeling like unwelcome outsiders. The maintenance in the park is still as great as it was last year. The park is well kept and clean which is the only reason we decided to return. We plan to stay all winter next year. We arrived back at Lakeside RV park for our fourth winter with a broken main leaf spring on our front axle. When we arrived we did not get that warm homey feeling that we use to get here. There has been some management changes. The park was not the neat and clean park we had been accustomed to. The desert gardens looked a mess and some of the trees/bushes looked like they were dying from lack of water. The horseshoe pit had a trash dumpster in the middle of it. The rent had been raised without any notification so everyone coming back for the winter was in for a big surprise. They should have notified those who had made reservations. The new co-manager was very rude to my wife. And overall the managers were not very friendly. After only two weeks we could not stand the tension in the park so we moved out. We told the manager we had a replacement spring on the way from Indiana. We found out from a friend still at this park that our new spring had arrived. The next day we learned the manager had signed for it but did not call or send us an email; then the co-manager sent it back to Indiana. So here we sit still with a broken spring. I contacted the owner of the park: he apologized and said he would pay for the extra shipping. However, the sorry did not sound very sincere. I am very saddened at the direction Lakeside RV park is heading and we will not be staying here any time soon. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Some of the spots are very large but some are not worth the money. They have too many different rates for too many different sizes etc. The staff seems nice. The one thing that some people mentioned were how bad the dust is. The host come around often with a machine to rake the rocks/dirt to make it look nice as soon as someone leaves their RV spot, so as long as you don't step on it, or want to walk around your trailer they will like that. The rules say you have to keep your spot raked. A little to fanatic for us and we will not return to this park. If they didn't have this problem I would have given it a 8. This is a very nice park with large flat gravel sites. We arrived with a written confirmation. We had been there before. They are under new management and said they had never seen a written confirmation like that. They intimated that we had printed it our self until I show them the email originator. The written confirmation had the site number and the amount due at sign in. They moved us to another site which was OK as they were having a small RV rally there. BUT they DID NOT HONOR the amount due on their written confirmation and charged us more than $60 more for the week than our confirmation stated. This is a nice park but not a $39 a night park. I would NEVER stay in this park again. Lakeside is under new management and is expanding. We were a little concerned about all of these changes, but the park is still as well kept as it was, and the staff is just as friendly and helpful. There is a game room, the restrooms and showers are very very clean, there is a nice big TV in the lounge, a large patio where guests meet for afternoon socials, and RV storage and supplies, They offer daily, weekly and monthly rates. The sites are medium to large, level, a lot are pull-throughs, and there are big rig sites. Some of the sites face wonderful views of the mountains, some sites face very well kept cactus/flower gardens. The expansion promises even better facilities. We stayed a month three years ago and have been back every year since. Truly a great park at a great price. Wi-fi and cable included in the price. We camped here in a Motorhome.

My wife and I are new to RVing, and went looking for RV parks around the state prior to becoming full-timers. We chose to stay in Lakeside RV Park, due to its close proximity to the lake. Lakeside was our first choice, and the right one from what I've seen. The monthly rates are a little higher than the other parks, but the little bit of extra you will pay is very much worth it. The sites are very level with lots of room, beautiful views, beautiful gardens, and just overall a very well-maintained park. The showers are sparkling clean. The lounge is wonderful, with lots to do. Whether you'd like to read, watch a movie or TV, or work on a puzzle, they welcome all visitors to use the lounge. It shows they take great pride in this park, and from what I hear, that is hard to come by. All the visitors here are very friendly, as well as the park hosts and management. As I stated above, we are new to RVing. We received a lot of helpful tips our first week here, and still receive them. We continue to enjoy our stay here at Lakeside RV Park. This park is one of many in an area that is a prime travel destination. The park is well maintained. It appears that more than half of its sites are occupied by long-term campers or permanently-sited travel trailers. The campground is surrounded by boat and RV storage areas. Because of this, it is less than an attractive place to stay. The rates seem somewhat high, particularly for the off-season period when I visited. Being northerners, when we first pulled in we thought the park rather barren and close packed. Once we were parked, and looked around us a bit more, we realized it was magnificently landscaped, but just in a New Mexico desert style which was unfamiliar to us. The grounds are extremely well cared for. Our hosts were extremely friendly and helpful. Shower are modern, clean, and spacious. (I am 6' 4" and 230 lbs. I like to have some space.) Clubhouse is nice with coffee and a phone for local and calling card calls. All facilities heated to be comfortable even on December nights. The Elephant Butte Lake state park is conveniently less than a mile away. T or C hot spring spas are 5 to 10 minutes. Wi-Fi worked fine, but a little slow. (Uploading at 110 kbps.) The only reason this park didn't rate a 10 is that the Wi-Fi was down - and had been for several days when we got there - we stayed 2 days and it was still out when we left. They are somewhat anal about their sites, manicuring them to the nth degree, and the sites are very close together - felt like our dining room was in the other folks bedroom. The folks that were wintering there were very nice and they had a social hour every day at 4 - terrific lending/exchange library and a lot of DVD's and music as well. We've been to Truth or Consequences several times and stayed in other parks. This one is the best in town. There is no grass but the park is very clean and well-maintained. The pull-through sites are laid out in an odd fashion but there's always a friendly guide on a golf cart to help you park. The park owner and the office work-campers were also very friendly. The rate posted is for Passport America members. When we are back in the area, this is where we will stay from now on. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Our first time here. Quiet and spacious. The park has large, level sites and very well maintained desert landscaping. The staff is very friendly and efficient. The free WI-FI is fast. I stayed at the Passport America rate. The only negative is the absence of picnic tables at the sites. We will return again to enjoy the evening happy hour at the office patio and the morning coffee in the club house. Best of the RV parks in the area. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

We have stayed at this RV Park several times over the past 4-5 years and I agree with the other posts that the place is very well kept. The problem I have with this RV Park is that the new managers and staff are not "kid friendly". Past managers and staff were extremely polite to our children. In fact, if you have kids with you, you are treated badly. We have stayed here without our kids and treated fine, but when we have our kids with us it is a different matter. I know the majority of the RV public are "seasoned" campers, but managers and staff should keep in mind that there are younger campers out there who like to stay at quiet campsites who have good kids. I suggest that if you have children, that you look elsewhere. We may not stay here again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

This is a great park. The managers and staff were very friendly and helpful. After check in we were escorted to our site and assisted in parking. We were going to stay here just 2 nights, but after being in the park and finding so much to do in the area we stayed an additional 2 nights. We would definitely come back. This is a very clean, quiet park. We stayed here several months during 2008 and into 2009. Staff is friendly and helpful. The roads, although gravel, is religiously groomed. There is no dust. This is a very nice campground suitable for a night, week, or a month. We stayed here for 1 week, and the nightly rate is reflective of the weekly rate. There isn't more than 1 or 2 weeks worth of interesting things to do or see in the surrounding area. However, if you are a snowbird and enjoy participating in campground activities, you could stay busy here for a month or two. Be advised that this campground is located at approximately 4500 feet, so it gets chilly at night and in the mornings. The landscaping motif is very good and blends into the desert scenery. There is a Wal-mart Supercenter in the neighboring town of Truth or Consequences (4 mi), but that is about the extent of close-by shopping. The only alternative for extensive shopping is driving to Las Cruces (80 mi). The cable TV signal was good as was the Wi-Fi. The laundry facilities were clean and adequate. I would stay here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

This park is very well kept. The sites are gravel and are raked before each new occupant. The roads are raked often. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The laundry room, although small - 4 each washers and dryers, is very clean and the appliances were new. We found the park to be very quiet. Our rate reflected a Passport America weekly rate. It is located very near Elephant Butte Lake State Park. We would definitely stay here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Pleasant, well kept RV park. As is typical in this area, the whole park is gravel which is groomed each day. Most sites are level and there are trees and flowering bushes around the edge of the park and between levels but few sites with shade. Very helpful staff, many snow-bird campers which means that the WiFi is excellent. No lake view and the lake is a very long walk away. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This is an excellent park. We agree completely with the previous posts. For a gravel park it is very clean and neat. newer area opened for big rigs, nice ( southwest ) landscaping. All RVs here and many people winter here in this park. Golf nearby as well as beaches and fishing and recreation on the largest lake in New Mexico. We drove by here only to check it out for a possible later stay, but it was so nice that we spent two nights. This is the first park that I have rated a ten. It is clean with lots of space between sites. The camp hosts are very friendly and helpful. The free wireless Internet is the best that I have found lately. The rate shown is for Passport America. The only thing that is needed to make this place perfect would be a swimming pool. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Low rate reflects Passport America. Well, I travel full time (2 1/2 years) and this is one of the nicer places I have been. Most sites spacious, no problem for most big rigs to maneuver around, all surface area small gravel ('swept' daily to prevent holes), MOST excellent WIFI free service. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The grounds were landscaped (desert style of course) and very neat and clean. Evening social hour outside or in the campground lounge. Would definitely stay again. This one earns my first '10' rating. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Well kept, very friendly staff and owners. Beautiful views. Even had 2 new gas grills at the clubhouse for use (free) by campers. Rates are for "2 adults and 3 childern".Their brochure includes any information you could want. The owner explained he was in the process of creating some "super sites" for big rigs. This is a very nice state park. We stayed in a site with water and electric. The sites are large, with gravel and a concrete pad under the picnic table. There is a nice clean fire ring. Staff are friendly and greeted us on arrival. The park is clean. The staff rakes each site after it is vacated, giving the site a welcoming feel when you arrive. There is a dump station. Good Verizon service. Walmart located in Truth or Consequences a few miles away. We will stay there again. We camped here in a Motorhome.

The only reason this state park did not get a 10 is because the sites don't have sewer. We had a perimeter site and it was spacious with good separation from our neighbors. Restrooms/showers were old but clean. Close to town for services but nice and quiet at camp. We did not try the parks WiFi, but our own 3G Verizon service was good. Would not want to camp here on holiday weekends as it is said to be a zoo! Low occupancy when we arrived on Thursday, then campground was full over the weekend. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed here 3 nights in the lions beach campground loop. All sites have water and electric hook ups and paved trailer pads, cover tables on a concrete slab, and a fire ring. Well kept, camp hosts and rangers are friendly, the bathrooms are in older buildings with two showers and kept clean; but the buildings are old and could use an upgrade. The state park’s WI-FI connected every time but it is slow; overall, the park is clean; the marina is a great place to spend a few hours and can rent boats. T or C is only minutes away from the State Park to pick up supplies or have lunch/Dinner in town. The $4 price is with a New Mexico State Park camping pass. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Our second time visiting this park, and we stayed in a different loop (the one with lake view). While we enjoyed walking down (and down and down) to the very low lake and letting our pup have a swim, we did not love the camping here this time. Our loop was crowded and full of campers with poorly trained dogs who barked and growled and generally made a nuisance All. The. Time. (This happened to us the first time we stayed here, too.) If you can get one of the end/corner sites that has room around it, that might be better, but we shan't stay here again. Will find somewhere closer to TorC, which we love visiting. This wasn't waterfront, but our campground (Lion Beach) had a great view down onto the lake and bordering buttes/mountain range. High sandy desert with scrub, pretty if you like desert! Each site has a covered table. We preferred Lion Beach, even though it has only 30 amp electricity, because of the great views (on northwest end) and spacious sites, each having a desert willow tree to add shade. Friendly staff. In late October-early November, weather was fabulous. Good for daily walks or bicycling. Not much doing in Elephant Butte or nearby Truth or Consequences, but we weren't here for towns! We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed two nights in the park and had decent TV reception (about 10 stations) and great WiFi connectivity. The lake itself was down to about 17% of normal levels so it was quite a walk to the waterside. We spent most of our days walking the area with our dog and had a wide, level spot with a covered picnic table. The surface of the site was pea-gravel and was raked by the host between visitors. We stay at the South Monticello Camping Area in spring and fall. Beautiful sites with great views of the lake and hills across the way. Roadrunners, fun. Big open sites with a covered picnic table area, big clean restrooms, a dump station, and hiking trails. There is a boat ramp, but the lake has been too low the last year to use it. Great for satellite dishes. Some sites are reservable in peak times. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This place is not only cheap, it is incredible. The lake is stunning as well as the panorama view of Elephant Butte. The free Wi-Fi was faster than any other RV park we have stayed in. The only down side is the fact that they don't have sewer for your gray/black water on the site, but there is a dump station in the park. This park is out oftown, so it is quiet. We not only rode our bikes all over the park, but kayaked around the "Butte". We even got off at the island and walked around and saw fish in the lake, and little lizards scouring about. We stayed here last year and returned because we liked the park so much. It is very clean. You can buy an annual pass and it will only cost you $4 a night...what a bargain. It is also very close to Truth or Consequences where we enjoy going over to and soaking in all of the various hot springs. If you visit hit the Happy Belly Deli; the food is delicious. We will return again next year for sure. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

This review is for the South Monticello campground. This campground is the newest one at this state park, built about 2 years ago, and is located about 10 miles north of the other park campgrounds. The two loops on the east end have great views of the lake which is currently at historic low levels. This campground has about 50 large sites. Some are pull throughs and the rest are easy angled back-in sites. Interior roads are paved. Each site has a nice layer of gravel, a grill/fire pit, water, 30 & 20 amp power, and a concrete pad that contains a picnic table covered with a shelter. The sites are spaced far apart with a feeling of privacy. Vegetation is typical southwest desert shrubs, Yucca, Creosote, and Mesquite. The nearest civilization is Elephant Butte and Truth or Consequences. Since the campground is remote, the night skies are dark and the stargazing is great and one can see the Milky Way. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed in the Quail Run Section because that was what was assigned to us and we had never been here. We had a semi-view of the lake. Our site was not level at all. We were slopping down hill. We put blocks on the truck and one side of the Fifth Wheel, but were still not level. It worked for one night. Wi-Fi worked well and was free. Sites are paved with a little patio area. The park was about 85% full. Not sure why it is such a big attraction, I guess because it is the only water nearby. It looked rather dry to us. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed at the South Monticello campground in mid October which is considered “off season”. The boat ramp at South Monticello is closed because the water level is extremely low. The campground was only about a third filled with just a few boaters. There are two vault toilets and one bathhouse with flush toilets and showers. They looked clean, but we did not use them. There is also a dump station located at the entrance to the campground. The inner side of the loop had pull-thru sites and the outer side had back-in sites. All of the sites were extremely long. These sites could easily accommodate a large rig, car and boat. The interior road is paved but a little narrow and the sites were on crushed gravel. All sites had 20/30/50 amp service and water. The electrical voltage was good. Each site had a covered table and fire ring. Verizon air card and cell phone worked well. From I-40 take exit 89 onto Martin Ranch road. Don’t take exit 92. According to the camp host it is a rutted dirt road. At this time of year it was very quiet and peaceful. We would definitely come back again We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

This review is for the South Monticello campground (50 sites) of Elephant Butte Lake SP, which is several miles north of the campgrounds by the main entrance. We first searched for a site at Quail Run, Desert Cove and Lyons Beach campgrounds. We found those campgrounds unacceptable due to unleveled pull-through sites, the potential for rude campers, loud noise, and boating groups. By making a wrong turn we ended up at South Monticello and for us it is a gem of a campground. It is a stark contrast to the other campgrounds of the State Park. The campground has a huge wide paved loop access road, wonderful layout, with spacious gravel padded sites. There are about ten pull throughs and they have the 50 amp power. Each site has a ramada with a large table. There are no shade trees and the primary vegetation of the campground is Creosote Brush. The scenic views from the sites are terrific and it's a quiet place. The lake level at the time of our visit was so low there was no lake. The boat ramp was high and dry. This made for a near empty campground and the boating crowd was nowhere to be seen, which contributed to the natural quiet sounds. Verizon service here including 3G was great and fast. We extended out stay and will likely return. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This was one of the nicest state parks. We stayed one week at North Monticello Point. Very clean, as the sites are cleaned and raked on a weekly basis by the camp hosts. This is one of New Mexico's best state parks. We stayed in the Lions Beach loop and our site had a great view of the lake. This park has several improved camping areas, many spots with 50amp. Sites have electric and water, and there are a couple dump stations in the park. Sprint broadband works well here. For non-vacation weekdays in March I was surprised how packed the campgrounds were: almost 95% occupancy at the non-reservation sites. However I was able to find a nice pull-through site in the Quail Run campground. It's a bit further from the lake, but sites are much roomier as you get further from the lake. The site was perfectly level checking the levels, although did not appear so prior to pulling in. A new 3-lane pay station just opened, although the rest rooms could use some renovation if there is money left. Lots of blowing sand everywhere made it hard to experience the lake and trails. I saw a couple rigs camped in the free beach area, but one must be careful not to get stuck. I found the toll booth and campground staff courteous, and was greeted by the host within a couple minutes of arrival. I was hoping the park marina would rent small fishing boats, but it does not, just larger boats such as 10 passenger party boats. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

The following review is for the Quail Run and Desert Cove campground loops. Both have 50 Amp electric and water hook-ups. There are 47 sites in the campground. Ten of the sites are paved pull-throughs and there is one gravel/dirt pull through site. Nine of the ten paved pull-throughs are steeply unlevel. They present a real challenge to level any type of RV. The one and only level paved pull-through is occupied by a campground host. I wonder why New Mexico State Parks (NMSP) even bothered to construct the pull-throughs since they have extreme slope. I wonder why they allow the host to occupy the one and only level paved pull-through site. We had the spacious semi-private level gravel/dirt site. It is a somewhat dusty site when the wind was blowing. The electric and water are on the opposite and wrong side of the site. If NMSP could relocate the electric box, Site 18 would be a premium site. The back-in sites are paved and some are level. Sites are spacious, surrounded by native vegetation, and most have a view of the distant lake. The lake level, currently, appears to be 40-feet or more below the normal level. The campground host seem to have an unfriendly nature, projected loud TV sound into the campground and did little upkeep of the sites. The restrooms were in need of better cleaning. We found the same fecal material on the walls our entire stay. After ten days the dumpsters were overflowing with trash. Park roads and access roads are in great need of a repaving project. We will likely not return because the campground is neglected and we likely would not get a level pull-through. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Price is based on a night of boondocking on the beach. We have done little dry camping and thought we'd give it a try here. Once you pay your $8 you can plop your rig down just about anywhere you like. Most choose the beach, and some park quite close. The main reason I'm writing this review is to warn my fellow RVers if you opt for the beach, be very careful where you go, especially in a heavy motor home. You'll still have a great view of the lake 50 yards from the water where the sand is hard-packed. We tried to get closer and needed to be towed out. This is a great park if you're into boating, jet skis, and other water activities, but not much else. We would stay here again, but probably in a site with hook-ups. We camped here in a Motorhome.

We stayed in Monticello South but getting to it after checking in at the Visitors Center in Elephant Butte was a real challenge. The map they gave us was not to scale, there was no inset w/ the Monticello South campground and the road we had to take was not labeled correctly. When we turned down the road that had a sign for the campground the actual turn into the camping area was very poorly marked. Once we found our site and got settled we loved where we were. It appears they are in the process of developing this area but it would be a great help if they could hand out current maps and give better directions. Now that we know where we're going we would stay here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

This is THE place to stay near Truth or Consequences. Roads and pads are paved making it the least dusty park in the area. 50amp sites are available. There is a dump station but no sewer hookups. Views of the lake are awesome. Hiking, biking, boating, fishing, this place has it all. And, the price is right. It is a state campground so there are no amenities like pool, hot tub, wifi, etc, hence our 8 rating. We camped here in a Motorhome.

I have camped here twice--fall and spring. I enjoyed it. Everything was clean and quiet. The restrooms are clean but they have a well used look to them. It gets very crowded in summer. Lots of kids, lots of boaters and lots of noise. The last time I camped there I was at Lion's Beach Campground which has sewer connections. It has a lake view and is smaller than the other campgrounds. Don't miss the Geronimo Springs Museum in downtown Tof C. It looks like just a store front but it has loads of interesting stuff. There are lots of eating places close to the park as well as trailer repair and trailer storage. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed in one of the sites overlooking the harbor and lake in our Motorhome. We chose the site next to the childcare playground so our 3 sons could play. We stayed here Christmas night on our way South to get a little warmer. Having our family Christmas dinner as the sun was going down with the view of the lake was wonderful. There were no facilities as we were in a dry camping site. We would happy stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Another great NM state park. We stayed in Desert Cove with electric and water, but there are sites for every kind of camper. Beautiful views of the lake and nice loop trail for exercise. We liked the recycling program, but the camp hosts didn't do anything to enforce quiet hours. Family next to us left their untrained dog tied up outside all night. (Note that we saw a fox hunting a rabbit and a pack of coyotes in the campground!) We camped here in a Motorhome.

We stayed at the "Monticello South" section of this state park and highly recommend it! The site is sparkling clean and spacious, very well kept and the view is spectacular. The facilities are first rate and very quiet, with many species of birds flying over. There is a wonderful walking trail that is great. We will stay here whenever we are in the area. Wonderful spot! We camped here in a Motorhome.

Nice sites at the campground nearest the Visitor Center, 'tiered' with good views of the lake. Neighbors a little close but otherwise very pleasant; covered picnic table, gravel neatly raked. Decent space for a tow vehicle. Toilets and showers were dated but functional; the hand dryer in ours was broken. No soap: ever heard of Swine Flu? How about Hepatitis? It is a windy place with lots of birds, and friendly park people. Great views, nice playground. We would definitely camp there again. We camped here in a Motorhome.

We stayed here during this past Memorial Day Weekend and found this park to be extremely busy but well kept. The bathrooms were kept clean despite the volume of people using the facilities. The front gate personnel were always polite and happy to see you. I can recommend that campers with children stay here. The beach area is beautiful and plenty of things to do to keep the kids busy! We camped here in a Motorhome.

We stayed at Lion's Beach. Nice large sites, on a bluff with full view of the lake. Fairly clean showers. Nice camp host who left helpful message on our windshield regarding tag needed for our extra vehicle. Has paved level sites, shady table with a fire ring. The only problem with Elephant Butte is it is often windy, therefore dusty. We camped here in a Motorhome.

South Monticello Campground Very nice park stay although if you are not into water sports you might find yourself a little bored. Bring your boat, kayak, wave runner and fishing rod. We were in a site right by the bluff overlooking the Rio Grande. The nearest town is Truth or Consequences. (5 miles) There you can find a Walmart, do some hot springs (Riverbend), and dinner at Los Arcos. The early bird dinner is worth the money. The nights at the campground are quiet. We used our aircard and it worked sporadically. As a state park, they only offered electricity and water. The dumping station was by the exit and it was easy access. The pullthru's are not by the lake. PS: Be prepared for strong winds. The winds were so strong one night we had to close all our slideouts we were concerned that our awnings would be ripped right off. We would stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.

I agree w/other reviews, we stayed in Lion's Cove A64; camp host was VERY pleasant to us. If you're unfamiliar w/camping area, I'd sure get here in daylight .. big rigs stay on pavement as sand is soft, and many 'roads' and/or 'loops.' Pads are mostly level but sloped (some steeply) to back-in. Grand views, quail, coyotes, bunnies and we had night-time quiet too. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This is a nice state park right on Elephant Butte Reservoir. The fees were very reasonable. There were pull throughs with 50 amp service. Many of the sites are not level and that was a problem for us since we were in a motorhome. Each site has a covered picnic table which was nice but made it difficult to turn and pull in. Once there, we enjoyed our visit. The ground is all sand so it's like being at the beach. We camped here in a Motorhome.

The grounds of this park are (given where it is) really quite pretty. And they have an interesting and informative nature walk through the desert. We were in one of the upper loops which afforded some view of the lake and backdrop of hills. This was nice. Restrooms were clean, as was the campground. Some of the loops closer to the lake had very small back-in sites, offering little privacy. The town itself has little to offer other than huge RV and boat storage areas. We stayed one night (although we planned to stay 3-4). We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

This review is based on the three campgrounds available on the Truth or Consequences side of the lake (south end) Quail Run & Desert Cove have 50 amp service & water at the sites. Lions Beach has 30 amp & water. Some sites are available first come/first served. Others are reservable. NM State Parks charges $10.60 service fee to make a reservation. You can also camp lakeside (dry camping) for $8 a night. Signs indicate you are driving on soft sand and to enter at your risk - we saw lots of tents and smaller trailers - no big rigs lakefront. This is a beautiful park offering lots of nature & peace and quiet. If you are looking for good New Mexican food we recommend La Cocina which is located in town. We will stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Beautiful park, however crime is out of control at this state park. We had our 2 ice chests stolen the 2nd night we were there, as did several other campers. One couple had their tent, clothes, sleeping bags, etc stolen as well. Per a maintenance man this has been going on for a couple of months now. They were unable to catch the people or even locate the ice chests. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

I really enjoyed this campground. There are many campgrounds to select from. We stayed at Quail Run, I believe. I really liked that they had personal gazebos available for each site. All of the sites had a great view of the lake. The only complaint I had was that the campground manager, I can't remember her name, was very rude to my aunt when she referred to her dog's barking. She said "What do I have to do to get that dog to shut up!" She could have been more tactful. Otherwise, I enjoyed very much. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

We have stayed here several times during the off-season. We camped at Lion's Cove. The campgrounds were very busy (due to spring break) and we were glad we had reservations. The sites are always very nice, clean, and have a covered picnic table and fire ring/grill as well as electric, water, and in other campgrounds (not Lions Cove), a handful have sewer. We enjoyed watching the bunnies and quail. The only complaint we had is that there were several groups camped on the beach and one party in the campground that was very noisy and rowdy with music blaring until 4:00am and kept us awake! They also left a trail of trash! We were wondering where the ranger or sheriff was to tell them to keep it down. I called the main phone number but was greeted with an voice message that did not leave a contact number for emergencies or problems. We know that this state park has a reputation for rowdiness especially during the summer. We will not camp there again until the off-season late next fall. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

A very pleasant surprise after 8 weeks of commercial campgrounds. We enjoyed the privacy this park afforded. And the wildlife everywhere. A typical beautiful desert park with a lovely sunset each evening. We camped here in a Motorhome.

We have stayed here a number of times. It is a convenient stop for overnight or longer term. There were not many campsites taken this time of year. The sites are clean and well spaced. We stayed at Lion's Cove, Loop A. The only other sites taken in this row were the 4 campground host sites. We stayed at the other end in site #59. We were told at the visitor center that there were no reservaton sites reserved and to camp at any space. The next day, the campground host was somewhat rude. She came to our campsite about 11:00am did not even say hello) and asked when we arrived. She told us we had to leave that day because the site was reserved. This was not true. That is probably why this row of sites were all empty and the next loop, which were first -come, first-served sites were more filled. I think she misunderstood the park policies. If the reservable sites were not reserved, you can camp there. This is true of all New Mexico state parks. Her behavior was a turn-off and not very welcoming. We will overlook this and will camp here again at a later date. Funny how some people can give you a bad taste in your mouth. Too bad this person is a campground HOST. She sure does not act like one. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Spent 3+ months here volunteering. Largest SP in New Mexico, with unlimited "primitive" camping in the desert, more/less waterfront...$8. Rate shown ($14) is for water/electric & a covered picnic table. Pull thrus @ Quail Run loop will handle 98% of big rigs. Back-ins @ Lion's Beach are quite scenic. Two dump stations. Quiet town, limited groceries, coupla good family restaurants. Secondary location @ Monticello is new & nice, BUT, about last mile + is dirt road. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
