This was our third stay (we were here in June and September, 2007), and the park is as described by other reviewers – no trees and covered with crushed rock. This is a typical landscape for the desert southwest, though. There is easy access to the sites, and they are very level. We did notice that the nearby trains didn't seem to be as loud this time, but maybe we're just used to it. The restrooms are very clean, and as mentioned in our other review, there is a common shower entry area, which is very humid (we didn't use the showers here). One change is the new wifi this year, and the reception is very good; we had no problem. The water pressure is about 100 psi, so a reducer is important. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
The campground looks like a big gravel parking lot when entering. Upon looking a little closer, there are individual campsites and a few very small trees. Each site has a concrete pad for picnic table and the gravel was level for our motorhome. The amenities are the attraction: indoor pool at next door LaQuinta, good Wi-Fi, Denny's next door (10% discount), and nice, large clean laundromat next door. There is also a fenced pet area. There is a train on the north side and the highway on the south side of the campground. If you're a light sleeper, bring a noisemaker. We would stay here again as it's clean and convenient. Our biggest complaint is that it's expensive. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is a smaller but very clean park with the amenities for swimming to use at the LaQuinta next door and a 10% discount on your food bill at the Denny's also next door. As I stated the toilet areas are separate from the showers which was nice, and all very clean! Fenced exercise area for your pets if you are traveling with them. We would definitely stay here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We have stayed at this KOA several times before. It is rather plain, but it meets our needs just fine. Since the last time we were there they have added tables and grills at the sites, and they now have free Wi-Fi. I can’t remember if they had cable TV last time, but they do now. You can still use the indoor pool at the adjacent La Quinta Motel, and you get 10% off at the nearby Denny’s. It also looked like they had added a layer of gravel over the whole lot. (We remembered more red dirt the last time.) This should help keep down the blowing dirt when it is windy. We think this makes a great overnight stop, and we will stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
New park with odd layout of sites. Picnic table and grill were near the next site hookup. Large laundry next to office. Good base for Red Rock SP and Gallup area. Motel, gas/diesel station, laundry and restaurants part of complex. Walmart and major restaurants are five miles west on I-40. Big negative is cost. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Nice clean new looking place. Completely gravel w/ no marking on ground indicating the site width. Sites were very large/wide. Picnic table on concrete slab within just a couple of feet of your neighbor's hook-ups, sewer included. Highway a very short stone's throw to one side and double railroad a couple hundred feet to other. Not worth the high price paid for quick in and out while heading west. Too many others for much less to warrant returning here. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Clean, relatively new, typical KOA with no surprises – and as described by other reviewers. Virtually no trees (no shade), covered with crushed rock (“like a parking lot”); typical Southwest landscaping. A good place to stop for a night or two. Nearby freeway was not that noisy, but trains were very noisy and you could actually feel them at times. Not really a problem for us – seemed to lull us to sleep. Shower arrangement not very good – common entry hall for men and women, with private/locked, windowless shower rooms. We didn’t use it, but looked around; it appeared there was one light switch for all shower rooms (perhaps one could be left in the dark, if someone turned the switch off?). Restrooms were very clean. Wifi arrangement with the adjacent La Quinta was great, but only if you took your laptop and could connect to their DSL. Otherwise, their two PCs were very, very slow. We camped 2 nights with no pets. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Good place to spend the night on the way to Albuquerque. Campground covered in rocks made it rough walking on it. BBQ pits were brand new. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Campground was clean and well-run. BUT campground is within 100 yards of I-40 freeway on one side, and within 100 yards of a busy railroad line on the other. No discount was offered for lack of pool and jacuzzi, which were advertised. Entire park is crushed rock surfaced with one 8-ft tree per lot. Grill and picnic tables provided on 35 ft wide lots. Playground and laundry were nice; Denny's restaurant is next door. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
The only positive things about this campground were the super clean restrooms and a very nice office employee. This is a gravel parking lot with hookups. That would be okay for an overnight stop just to sleep, but that leads me to the biggest negative. The NOISE! Trains run by the campground constantly. They are so close our entire trailer shook. When there is a welcome break between trains, trucks on I-40 roar by. I might have been able to live with that for $10-15 a night, but $39! Next time we stop in Gallup, we'll try the local Walmart. There won't be any hookups, but it's not next to the train tracks either. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Interesting park!!! It’s actually nothing but a gravel parking lot sandwiched between two motels, a Denny’s restaurant, Interstate 40, Route 66 and the ever present railroad tracks. All that said, it is noisy but we found it to be quite nice for a three day stay. The laundry is huge and superb. The staff are nice. The restaurant is very convenient, as is everything in town - just pull out on the highway and turn left! Very handy spot and kept up reasonable well. I will stop there again for sure. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This is a new campground but already very nice, large pullthrough sites. The on site modem hookups were not functional yet but were at the office. 60 channel cable tv, 50 amp. Pet friendly with a nice dog walk. Walking distance to Dennys. Heated pool, playground. We rarely stay at KOAs so I do not have a card but they gave me a discount with my Good Sam card! We ended up here due to a very bad experience at USA RV Park( please see review on this site). We will be going back in the future as we have family there. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Fenced, gravel parking lot style camping stuffed between two motels and a restaurant. Tight gravel spaces with 20 feet between campers. No cable, modem, or phone at campsites. No WIFI. Dennys within walking distance. Close to interstate and somewhat noisy. Walmart five miles way would be a much better overnight stop. Several RV's where staying there when we passed soon after daylight. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Good for an overnight. We usually avoid KOA's but given the reviews on the other alternative's reviews...we stayed here. It is a large gravel parking lot but good cable and easy in-out. Large commercial size laundry. Right off of I-40 next to La Quinta. Good signage. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We have stayed at this KOA three times in the past nine months, and we really like it. It is pretty short on landscaping, but this is a desert area after all. I can see that it would have blowing dust if it was windy, but that was not a problem when we were there. There is highway and train noise, but it was not loud enough to keep us awake at night. The first time we stayed in October 2005 the sites were unlevel, and we tried 3 sites before we found one that was level enough to use. The manager was very accommodating and apologized for the sites. He said the sewer had caused all the humps and said they were completely redoing the campground the next week. Sure enough on our return trip two weeks later the entire lot had been graded and was very level. The sites are gravel, long enough not to have to unhook, and wide enough to park your tow vehicle beside your RV if you do. Their individual bathrooms were spotless. You could also use the indoor pool and computer center at the adjacent La Quinta Motel. There was also a 24 hr. laundromat beside the office. This was a good base for seeing sites in western New Mexico and eastern Arizona. Gallup is a fun little town to explore also. Be sure to drive the old Route 66 through town. We definitely recommend this place. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Despite the fact it looks like a parking lot from I-40, the spaces are wide and long enough for our 40 ft. 5th Wheel. The site was wide enough to fit my tow vehicle next to our rig. This is a new park, so their trees will take a few years to grow and provide any shade. We liked the ability to use the heated pool and spa in the hotel adjacent to the park, and the 24 hr. huge laundry facilities, so you never have to wait for a washer or dryer. The only other amenity that would be nice is if they offered reliable Wi-Fi. The office is open 24/7 and they were very nice to us. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Strong gusty winds and lots of sand/gravel flying around because of lack of trees. Very noisy, campground is right between I-40 and railroad tracks. Campground looks like a parkinglot, unattractive. Ok for a one night stay. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Park opened in spring 2005--very clean, new facilities, extra wide pull through sites, friendly staff, 24-hour commercial laundry, business center and pool at adjacent La Quinta Inn are available to KOA guests. Campground is pretty noisy due to proximity to I-40 and railroad. Gravel sites, absolutely no shade until the trees grow up in about 20 years. Good for a night or two if touring in the area. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This park is wide open with some beautiful views of the red rocks. There is great hiking in the area. The spaces are very adequate in size with water and 50 amp power. The dump station is easy to access. We had complete privacy while here for 3 days in November of '08. There were no other campers here. The 50 amp power was welcomed because of the 20* weather. Payment, as stated below is mostly on the honor system, there was no one to check, and finding the information on where to pay could have a been easier for the honest. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
What a comfy little park! Payment was run pretty much on the honor system, with arrivals and departures any time it was convenient for you. The sites were roomy. The restrooms were concrete but very clean, with soap and paper towels provided. The Good Sam guide says there are no showers, but they are wrong. The water and power connectors are at a four-foot height, which is so logical that more parks ought to take the hint. The prairie dog compound in the middle of the campground was free entertainment. The only negative: the payment process was very "manana," with a single employee handling payments who took three phone calls to completion before she finished a simple one-day stay transaction for the person who was physically there. Nevertheless, I'd stay there again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Excellent RV Park. We checked out the KOA and Red Rock before deciding on this one. The staff is friendly and do a great job at maintaining the grounds. Some of the sites are a little tight, but nothing compared to others we've been to. If I'm every back in Gallup, this is where I'll stay. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Red Rock is no longer a State Park. The Trading Post Store is not open but the Post Office is. We paid for 3 nights and stayed 2. There is no one on site, you put your money in your own envelope and drop it in a mail slot on the store. There is a pack of 4 wild dogs in the park that bark and come into you site looking for food. At night people come into the park to use the bathrooms and sites without paying. The first day we were approached by men wanting to know if we could help them out with a few dollars. The second night at around 10pm a man knocked on our trailer door and rubbed on the tent next to us asking for money. Calls to animal control were not followed up on because it was the weekend. There is a house in the park with a police car parked in the yard but when we spoke to the person living there, no response. Called State park office and Gallup city Office each said the other owned the park. We left and I have stopped payment on the check I left. Will not go back again. 10 Year Full time campers. We camped here in a Truck Camper.
Pretty basic layout with sites close together and minimal trees. Visually unlike any state park we've ever been in, much more like a basic commercial cg. Post office is right in park so there is constant traffic throughout the day. We did see wild horses in cg one morning. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Given the alternatives near Gallup, I recommend this park in spite of the fact that it is mostly sand and the spots are not well marked. Having stayed here 5 times on the way further West, I have found it quiet, safe, and convenient for an overnight. We camped here in a Motorhome.

While some sites are kinda small, there were plenty of nice sites when we were there. There are fire rings, basic hookups, picnic tables, and a very nice store with friendly people. The surroundings are beautiful, and the stars at night were fabulous. Yes, we were visited by a woman selling kachina dolls, but at $15 each for a hand-made item, they were nice souvenirs. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Agree with other reviewer that $18 is way too much for this park. Site layout is very confusing, and poorly marked. This is the first place we've ever stayed where panhandlers beat on the door -- two of them in the first hour -- one drunk looking for a handout, and someone else later wanting to sell junk. They seemed to be on foot, wandering in the woods near the park and gave us the creeps. The numbers of permanent residents, in crummy trailers with big dogs in permanent looking fences was a bit off-putting also. If you have good locks and a Smith & Wesson under your pillow, you could consider this place for a quick overnight. If not, stay at the Wal-Mart in Gallup. We camped here in a Motorhome.

The surrounding Red Rocks are lovely but the park is a mixed bag. Clean but oddly placed
sites and utilities. Deep loose sand. Used Autoformer to boost power. Several somewhat permanent sites (old converted buses) with dog pens and large barking dogs within. Campstore also serves as local post office and mini mart so regular traffic from outside. $18 is too much for this modest park. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This was our first visit to the park since 2003. We were checked in by the owner who was very helpful & friendly. One has a choice of what services they want and are charged for each-we chose a 50 amp site with water. The park appears clean overall, but our site could have been policed prior to renting to us. The roads are blacktop and the sites are pea gravel which holds down dust. The sites are wide enough & long enough for any size unit with any number of slides. We found the electricity & water to be modern & well placed. Few trees which makes park satellite friendly although they offer cable. We will revisit park as we felt it gave us good value for the price. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We had a very bad experience at this park. We had reserved a site with full hook-ups at least 2 months prior to arriving. When we got there, the place was packed with people from the Hot Air Balloon Festival in Albuquerque. They did honor our reservation, but put us in a very small site with no cable, no sewer, and too far away to pick up the Wi-Fi. They told us in the office that our antenna would work , but we couldn't pick up anything. I could understand this, if we came in without a reservation, but that was not the case. We will not stay at this park again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Spotless restrooms and laundry. All gravel and some drought tolerant trees but the city of Gallup wisely wants only hardscaping to conserve their limited water supply but this park done a very good job of making it attractive and very pleasant. Some of the most convenient hookups we've had, with 2 units sharing one set of utilities so easy for two units traveling together to open awnings into each other. This was just an overnight stay, but we will return and use this as our base to explore the area. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Stopped here for the night on the way to Colorado based on the positive reviews of others. Called for reservations from the road that day, staff is very friendly and efficient. Met the owner when checking in, great guy and very proud of his park. We had a very nice pull-thru that was level, long and wide enough for 3 slides. The park is dog friendly if you are a responsible pet owner. Don’t know if they do this all year, but they had a great BBQ and reasonable prices right on site. Would stay here again when in the area. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
When our tow vehicle broke down this was the closest park we found. We probably would have enjoyed the park more if not for the breakdown. They worked with us as far as a refund when when our vehicle was ready two days earlier than promised. Great staff, friendly and knowledgable of the area. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We were there just for an overnight. Wanted to check it out with the new ownership. We were very, very impressed (and we tend to be fussy!). We did not want / need the pool or playground but they may have been the best we have ever seen. The whole place was spotless. Big, level pull-through. Great enclosed places for dogs (2 places). John, the new owner, is very nice and wants to re-build the image here. Highly recommend and certainly would go back. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We have driven past this park in the past because of the bad reviews. I am glad that I checked the more recent ones. Upon check-in, the owners were very friendly, I suppose trying to overcome the reputation of the previous owners. The park was very clean and well maintained. The restrooms and laundry were spotless. The sites were long enough to pull through without unhooking the toad. If in the area, this is the place to stay! We camped here in a Motorhome.
Good playground and pool for kids. Grandson had a blast swimming in the pool. Dinner and breakfast was available, food was goot but the service was very slow due to limited staffing. Good level sites. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Very nice park, clean rest rooms, friendly staff, level sites. I would stay here again and I would recommend this campground to others. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Very friendly staff! Very level sites! The Wi-Fi is security code protected, but we still could not access the internet with the code. There is a dirt road behind the park which is great for walking dogs. We would stay here again if passing through. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
The park is under new management and there is a world of difference. We had stopped staying here due to the old man who was here. Many nice improvements and very pleasant personnel. Pet friendly, very clean. we will stay here again when we are in town. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Family owned park, and they were very nice and helpful. The roads are paved and the sites are gravel. Our row parked in alternate directions, so we opened out towards our neighbors table. I would have preferred dirt to gravel, but it is in the desert and the wind picks up. The dog walk area was fenced off, and was gravel as well. The park is very well maintained, and the people helpful and friendly. I will stay here again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This is a great place. They have a BBQ at night and a breakfast in the AM, and at a fair price. Super clean, level pull thru's,super clean restrooms. Very friendly staff. I would go out of my way to stay here. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Nice sized pull-thru sites. Close to I40. We spent 2 nights here. Gift shop is quite large with local crafts for sale. Very friendly staff. Will definitely stay here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Very large park! Nice and clean, good gravel, pool was too cold! Didn't honor the Camp Club discount even though it was listed in the Camp Club directory! WiFi signal didn't carry very well to our site. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
If you're looking for a nice overnight stop, this campground is a good choice. There is limited activates, but the staff is helpful and the accommodations were satisfactory. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Nice park. Friendly staff. Restrooms and showers were clean. Rate reflects Good Sam discount. Note: Active military stays free. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Everything worked, patriotism is flown like a banner, and the store has some cool stuff. No greenery, very little shade. Nice folks in the office. These are back to back buddy sites- not too tight, though. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Friendly staff, easy pull thru, dirt/gravel pads. Ours was level. As has been reported some dog owners fail to clean up after their dogs. Would stay there again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We have stayed here for the past 3 weeks and will be here for another month. The new owner (John) and his family are very nice and helpful. They truely care about having a nice park. I particularly like the back to back sites. The way they are set up, your "front yard" is facing your neighbor's "front yard" so if you are sitting outside you don't have to look at a sewer line. I have seen pet waste in several areas which is hard to understand because there is a wonderful area next to the park where pets can go and even run and play. This is a very nice park and will definately stay here again. I don't know what the nightly rate is but our monthly rate is $420. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Signage to campground good. Paved wide entry with plenty of space to park and register. Office staff friendly and efficient. Access roads to sites wide and well maintained. Very clean and tidy site. Gravel back to back level pull-throughs sites quite tight particular if you had a neighbor like ours who parked his truck and storage trailer on our part of site. Good infrastructure. OK for overnight. Quiet. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Park is under new ownership. Owner and his family are operating the park. They are very friendly and helpful. They are working hard to overcome prior reputation of being difficult with pets. They are upgrading the WiFi and the park in general. It is clean and well maintained. It is very convenient to I-40, downtown and fuel. Make sure you check out the El Corral Hotel downtown. Beautiful lobby full of movie star pictures from movies filmed in the area. This is a great park to stay a few days and check out the local attractions. We would stay here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
I was in this park again earlier this month. I've stayed there a couple of times before and enjoyed it. The bad rap was that the owner, Gene, was hard to get along with where animals were concerned. Gene has sold the park to one of the folks that worked for him. I spoke to the new owner about the pet rules, and he told me they had already been changed for the better. Seeing as how the park has large roomy pull through sites, is very accessible to IH-40, and reasonably priced it is a very good place to stay if you are in the Gallup area. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We are late in reporting our experience at this park, but after reading the reviews felt it expedient to sign in. We stayed here the first time in July 2006. Super nice park and clean! New owners are much more tolerant of doggie do! We changed sites because of the dog crap right where we would have our awning. Noticed that it was not an isolated incident although it was not all over the park, under the previous owners you never ever had to change your shoes! If you travel with pets you should take responsibility for them. Most campers do but the few that don't ruin the camping experience for us all. I will bypass this park next year. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Pretty clean park. New owner with less of a regimented set of policies. Very tough on dog lovers....need to take extra care of them and walk 'em in designated place. This park is located behind a large hotel, with train tracks about 2-3 blocks away and at the end of the small town airport. We were reminded of this by a plane that came right over the park at 7AM every morning and into the later evening hours, not to mention the numerous numbers of trains daily. But we had a good experience here and it is about the best this stretch of road has to offer. Would stay here again. Good Sams and Escapees' discounts. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Um, these boneheads are a perfect example of why America's reputation in the world is crap. The owner rants at usarvpark.com that "You can't support Islam and support the troops." I wouldn't give this guy my money without a gun to my head. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Under new ownership/management with a wonderful, young family. Very friendly and helpful! We spent 10 days here. Spotless amenities and sites. I would have given this campground a higher rating if the sites had not been so narrow. Neighboring coaches were just closer than we like them but the hook-ups were excellent. Restaurants are nearby and sightseeing opportunities are numerous. Wonderful place for studying ancient American Indian cultures. I would return to this campground at any time. We noticed that lots of rigs were merely overnighting, but they were missing a great area for exploring. Try to stay at least 3 nights. We camped here in a Motorhome.
As the previous reviewer stated, this park was purchased by a new owner about a month ago (September 2007). We travel with a dog and were a bit concerned based on some of the earlier reviews, but decided to take a chance. Turned out to be perfectly find. In fact, the new owner and his son, who were working the front desk, were excellent as far as customer service and friendliness. They do ask that you not walk your dog around the campground itself, but to walk them directly to the nice, fenced in dog area, or out along the dirt road that adjoins the campground property. We respected the campground rules, and had absolutely no hassles about our dog. There were several other campers with dogs there, and as far as we could tell, no one encountered any problems. The campground itself is very well maintained. Nice, reasonably sized, very level gravel sites. They did say our site was an 80 foot pull through, but our 40 foot motorhome with toad (total length of 60 feet), just fit in the site with bumpers on the edge of the road front and back. Site width was good. No issues with slides or awnings being too close to the neighbor. Very convenient location and easy to get to from I-40. Only reason I'm not rating this higher is due to the abundant noise from the huge freight trains that travel all night long nearby, and the low flying aircraft that sound like they are landing on your roof. While the planes didn't fly by on a regular basis, a few did wake us out of a sound sleep pretty early in the morning. Otherwise, a very nice campground. We'd stay here again if passing through for the night, but we would bring our ear plugs just in case! We camped here in a Motorhome.
Happy to report this park now has a new owner who doesn't hassle dog owners. The park was spotless and we will definitely stop here next time we visit Gallup. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Good, clean, park. Most pull thrus are side by side. Site was long enough for 40' MH and toad. Width was adequate. Pool open summer only. This was pretty much a overnight park. Lot of folks on their way to Albuquerque for Balloon Fest during my 3 night stay. If you fall into this category, make reservations. Several were turned away, park was full each night. I found staff to be courteous and friendly. I would stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is supposed to be pet friendly park, however, the restrictions placed upon pets in this campground are outrageously ridiculous. Please for your own sake, if you have a dog, read the restrictions before you register. Owner very unfriendly to people who do not follow the extreme rules. Park rules recite County ordinances, however, these are not pet friendly but the County does not follow them unless there is a complaint by the campground. We camped here in a Motorhome.
I stayed in this park this past July and was very satisfied. The park is located on the west side of Gallup, easy to access from I-40 and close to Wal Mart. The spaces are all pull through and reasonably large. I will be back through Gallup next February and plan to stay there again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
I really could not believe the attitude of this park's owner. First we arrived and someone told my wife as we were checking in "make sure you don't let your dog out here" (while checking in). Okay, then she is on the walkie talkie stating;--- is coming in site-- with pet. We arrive at our site and a man is standing there just watching. Didn't think much of this, just thought he admired our MH. Wife gets out hooks up our small dog and starts for the dog pen, which is way in the back. All of a sudden this man comes alive shouting and telling her "that dog better not go before you get to the pen" "don't use my park as a toilet". Of course she is in tears and my dog does pee. He doesn't stop yelling...She doesn't say a word just picks up our dog and gets in the MH. Would never stay here again. Will by-pass Gallup altogether. Even if it is his park, have some christian courtesy. It's a shame since the park does not look too bad. No one should ever be talked to in this manner. Dogs behave better than this man. We camped here in a Motorhome.
While the previous reviews seem to be split along the pet/no-pet divide, We found it to be clean, level, and very usable. The owner is in his late 70s and quite mobile and checks his employees work to make sure of quality. The WiFi was weak toward the rear rows but with a booster antenna I got on easily and it was good WiFi. They also offered an entire room to bring in your laptop or use their desktops for high speed connections. We stayed here 2 days to "clean" up our coach after a couple of months out and had absolutely no problems with management or employees, in fact, found them to be very friendly and helpful. I would certainly stay here again when passing through the area. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Nice long pull through's and clean sites. This park would rate higher if it wasn't for the fact that they nickel and dime you with added charges for cable and 50amp electric. They allow pets but all but threaten to shoot you and your dog if they don't make it to the designated pet areas in time. The pet contract, in my opinion, is way over the top. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We stayed here twice in May 07 on a trip to Utah...no problems and as I have a son that is a career officer in the military I appreciated the "rah rah" USA theme!!! We would certainly stay here again as the staff and owner were most helpful. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Park looks nice and employees were courteous, but we must add our voice to the chorus of pet owners who say they will NEVER stay here again, and warn all dog owners to go elsewhere! On our second day, my wife (why is the recipient always female or elderly?) was verbally abused by the owner when she let our arthritic 20-year-old little terrier cross an unoccupied space on the way back from the distant dog area. It started with yelling "Hey You, what do you think you're doing?" and went downhill from there calling her a "slob" and so on! In over two years of full-timing, we have never had problems with pet management and are very conscientious about cleanup and such. For the first time ever, we were immediately evicted. It looks like we're in good company. Of course there was no refund. By the way, when I checked politely with the front desk to see if there was anyone in authority who could do this, the employee started to break into tears. I felt for her. In our opinion, this individual should deal with his serious issues with animals as evidenced by his attack and the over-the-top Dog Rules and "Canineology and Mannerology" manifesto. Admittedly, we did not see that on the reverse side of the rules or we would have left immediately before registering. We were a bit concerned about the Rules of Combat "Kill 'em all and let God sort 'em out," style poster in the office and the anti-Islamic sign in the front driveway, but free speech still applies as I hope it does here! We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is the desert and most places have at least some landscaping--this place is pea size gravel and blacktop. And pets owners have a long list of rules that you must sign to bring your pet into the park. The clerk was nice enough, and the flags and USA signs were a bit much. The spaces are very close--no breathing space at all. The price was one of the highest we paid & we were given a discount. The wifi did not work at all. The 'dog area' was so smelly our very small 2 dogs wouldn't even go in--so we waited until after dark and took them on a long walk along the blacktop and some dirt beyond tent area. And yes they used that area to relieve themselves and we cleaned up after them. One person drove their dog to the dog area, let the large dog run free to do its business then called it back to the vehicle then drove off. We agree that the owners should not allow pets if they continue (which we're sure they will) their attitude. We were also turned off by all the "friendly" signs everywhere. We will not stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
I've looked at the debate on this park and I found it to be just fine. People were courteous and the park was clean, albeit snow covered. The wi-fi didn't work from a very close to the office site but we were able to use computer in office. The trains going by all night could be a problem if you are a light sleeper, they are pretty loud and constant. Course if it's 2 below and your heater runs all night like ours did, it helps drown out the noise. We also had no pets. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Many have commented on the attitude expressed toward dogs by the owners and I certainly found no reason to defend them. I also found them uncomfortable. The owners patriotism is worn openly, and while probably overdone, I didn't feel uncomfortable with it. The thing that forces me to rate the park down was the noise, more so than the situation with the dogs, between the trains and the departing planes, I found my sleep interrupted more than I find acceptable. I don't know if weather had anything to do with planes direction, but they came right over the campground four times the night I was there. The bottom line is that anyone with a dog should avoid this park. The park is neat, clean and well kept. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

I would have given this park an 8 or 9 but downgraded it because of the owner's attitude towards pets. He would be better off not allowing pets but I guess he would be out a lot of revenue because many people travel with pets. It was a little pricey for its location and for Gallup, NM. As soon as you drove into the park, you can tell the owner was a super-right-winged military person from all of the displays on the signs. He was so proud to be an American and made no bones that he was a vet and his park was 100% American owned. The first sign you saw was that he supported the Iraq war-fine but why did I need to know this information? These kinds of people make me nervous because you know at any moment they may go beserk. Makes you wonder why he had the need to put his rah-rah America views in your face and just show neutrality. It was a total turnoff. The person who checked me in was friendly (not the owner) and said because of the Iraq war, that was why we could walk around free in this country. Good thing he bought the owner's trip. Then he repeated at least 4 times that the dogs were not to be walked around the park and could only walk on the blacktop to the dog walk or to the area outside of the park boundaries. I received a separate sheet of 12 dog rules that had very threatening consequences if I did not follow them. It claimed that pet owners let their dogs "use AMERICA as their toilet". or some crazy thing like that. There were several signs posted all over the park about not letting pets go just about every place in the park. I am no dummy and am a very conscientious pet owner and don't need a sign at every turn to tell me not to let my pet go in a particular area. I was not approached because I followed the pet rules to the letter but I know I would have been admonished if my dog would tinkle a drop on the gravel or on a tree. I felt like I was being watched constantly and did not feel relaxed while staying here. It is too bad because the park was really nice and very well maintained. I will NEVER stay here again and will NEVER recommend this park to anyone. Because of the owner's attitude, he is hanging himself. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This was our second stop at this campground, both pleasant experiences. The mother-daughter team greated me when I entered the office. The mother recalled an event that took place more than a year back, which was something to laugh at. The next morning I talked with the owner who offered advice for traveling since 3-4 inches of snow fell durning the night. My opinion this is one of the best run parks I've been in, very clean. The owner, a veteran, offest a free night to active duty military. Where else in the US does this happen? Reading reviews it seems those with dogs are the campers who give a negative review. I certainly will stay here again when I travel I-40. I would have rated this facility a 9 had I been able to connect to WiFi the evening I checked in. For some reason, I could not, though next morning signal came in strong. A couple dozen channels on cable TV. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Park was very clean and neat. There was some noise from the nearby airport, but only during the day and really did not impact our stay. Staff was helpful and friendly. We would definitely stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Please, if you value your sanity and appreciate being a RV'er, easy going. Do not by any means stay at this park. The owner expects you to carry your dog to the dog area which is way in the back. He is mean, rude, and should not be conversing with the public. He will evict anyone for any reason and not return their money. Being a Full-Time RV'er you want to enjoy and he ruins it for everyone. He yells if you don't carry your dog. This park is very overpriced for having to put up with his abuse. There should be a law against people like this. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We stayed (2) nights at the USA RV Park in Gallop NM. This is the cleanness an most well kept CG we've ever stayed in. The CG personnel were friendly and helpfull. They advised active duty military personal stay for FREE! "Happy Trails" chiefneon We camped here in a Truck Camper.
The park is very clean and we were greeted by friendly employs. The dog rules are absolutely ridiculous. The dogs are not allowed to relieve them selfs except in the dog area. The park is also very noisy, caused by trains and an air port. We are staying in the park as I write this. You get the idea that you are under surveillance, because when you go out after dark to go to the dog walk, a watchman drives back to where you are. Will never stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
One of our favorites. Campground is always pristine. Excellent open areas for dogs adjacent to campground. Free WIFI. The made to order breakfast and supper grill offers very good meals at a reasonable price. The sites are long and the roads are wide so maneuvering is very easy regardless of the rig size. The owner is very serious about pe
