A great little Mom & Pop operation with clean office, nice service and very reasonable rates. We were able to pull through with 40' motorhome and still have tow vehicle hooked up. There is an additional $2.00 charge for 50 amp service. There is some noise from trains but were told by the office there is now a ban on the train horns when passing by. There is good shopping and dining in Grants nearby. Not a lavish resort type of park but a great base camp for visiting El Malpais, the Bandera Volcano and ice cave and El Morro National Monument. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Friendly people at check in. Long sites, a little narrow. Park is clean. Great place for an overnight stay if you can sleep through the train noise every half hour which didn't bother us to much. We camped here in a Motorhome.

We were treated great and made very welcome. Nice long sites for our 85' 5th wheel and Volvo with Toad. Didn't even have to unhook. Very Big Rig friendly!! Passport America. Lots of trains, but the TETON is built well and we hardly heard them. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

$12.75 (not the $10 listed in the Escapees book) + tax, just over $14. The sites are close together, but we (just) had room to put our slides out. Good cable TV. We pulled in around 3:00 pm and by 4:30, the sites were full (at the end of Sept.). Not much to look at, close to the road so a bit noisy, but OK for an overnight. Train noise. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

We've stayed in this park many times over the years and are always made to feel welcome. Parking can be cramped and the scenery is not great but the price and friendliness make up for it. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Nice price!! 50 channels of Cable TV and has a guide channel! Got our HDT and 35 ft trailer in site 5 without any problems. Complaints: train horns and noisy traffic. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

This is not the first time we stayed here, and it won't be the last. The owners are as friendly as any that we've seen. Your dogs get treats as well as you on check in. They have a pet area where your pet can run off leash. This is in the middle of lava flats so not much in the way of vegetation. It has has good electricity, but the TV cable is in the wrong end of the sites from rest of utilities. We camped here in a Motorhome.

A great KOA outside of Grants, NM and near I-40. The owners are very friendly and thorough with things at check-in. There is a nice fenced area for dogs to play. The facilities are spotless and very well kept. We would stay here again if in the area. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

One of the best-run KOA’s we’ve been to, ideal for our typical usage, as an overnight pull-through. Like another reviewer, we were delighted to have the option of a freshly cooked hot meal delivered to our door within a few minutes of getting set up - good food, good value and no dishes to wash! The cookies on arrival and treats for your pets are little touches which help to make you feel valued and welcome (other parks take note!) - there was also free basic breakfast and coffee when we were there. We don’t tend to use campgrounds’ facilities like restrooms and showers, and we didn’t use the wifi here so I can’t comment on those but we would definitely use this again as a stopover and maybe explore a bit more on a future visit. We camped here in a Motorhome.

The only review for this park is from 2004, but we decided to stop here anyway. We pulled in and found the dirt roads and spaces to be too narrow for our 5-wheel with slides on both sides. The trees were also right in the way of getting satellite TV off the roof. Unfortunately we could not find a space to accommodate our trailer so we left. We did stay long enough to try to find a space that would work for us, but were not able to find one. This park would be fine for smaller RV's under 30' who don't have a roof mounted satellite dish. Larger RV's need to look elsewhere. Even though we did not spend the night, I felt an updated review of this park would be helpful. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Sand/Dirt sites. Trees are ill placed and may interfere with slides and movement. Hookups are old and need some work but functional. It just off I45 so there is some road noise. The owners are very nice and accommodating. Lavaland is not a resort or upscale RV park. If you need more then the basics you won't find it here but you will find a place you can get a site for the night or day or two at a reasonable rate and be close to museums, restaurants, and gas stations. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a 124 site mobile home park that keeps some sites for RVs. It is about 2 mi off I-40 Business, and well worth the distance in terms of cost compared to RV parks on the interstate. They also have a weekly rate of $50! We stayed for a week. Access with our 40' rig was very easy due to wide streets and sites. The neighborhood was very quiet and peaceful. This would be our choice next time we are in the area! We camped here in a Motorhome.
