There are several small parks in Magdalena. We picked this one arbitrarily on our way to see the VLA (Very Large Array). It's on the west end of town and has a motel on site, but the sign said No Vacancy - methinks the maid quit, not that they were full. The swimming pool is a large concrete lined hole in the ground surrounded by a cyclone fence. The basketball court is about 10' square concrete surrounded by weeds. There are small concrete pads at each power pedestal, which are kind of side-by-side. Otherwise, they are back-in. The site wasn't quite level. But, it served the purpose for an overnight stay and wasn't expensive. And there were no trees to block the satellites. We probably wouldn't return here - maybe go on to the campground 14 miles west, which also uses a Magdalena address. We camped here in a Motorhome.

We stayed four nights. First night we use Passport America, the rest at regular price. Skinny one lane gravel road to the campground with a little bit of washboard. All interior roads and sites are gravel which was thick in some areas. It was not very motorcycle friendly. We were in a site west of the office which had no site number. It was not level, which I don't understand when they have a road grader. We were not able to get Wi-Fi at our site. Excellent Verizon cell phone reception. Very quiet with little road noise. Easy in and easy out with a Heavy Duty truck and 35 foot 5th wheel. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a desert campground, with sand-like soil producing fine dust around the sites, and pea gravel on the well-maintained roads which are set back a half-mile from the highway. It is indeed very quiet with spectacular night skies and perhaps the best views of the Milky Way anywhere in New Mexico. The host is very friendly and has a wealth of local knowledge. The pull-through sites are of good size, but not entirely level side-to-side. The picnic table is small and could be dusty (but not while we were there). There are no showers and the bathrooms are very dusty and not terribly clean. This may be a problem for others, but with 60 PSI, we were able to shower in comfort in our RV. Although wireless internet was advertised, we could not access it from our site (#6). This is real "desert camping" and, if you enjoy that, you will find that this is a nice RV park. We camped 2 nights with no pets, and plan to return someday. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Price reflects a weekly rate of $100. Manager is very friendly & helpful. There are several full-time residents, but their campers are neat. Interior roads are well-maintained pea gravel, but the high desert soil is sand-like and fine, and there is quite a lot of it around the campsite. We were in site #6 and had a great view of the mountains. Park is Set back quite a ways from the highway so there is no traffic noise. Owner is currently installing three more large rig sites. The wildlife in the area includes coyotes, mountain lion, and a black bear. We were told they never come into the park, but it is pitch black at night and I take a flashlight with me just in case. I enjoyed the peacefulness and scenery and we would return to this park. We camped here in a Motorhome.
