Great little park! They made our entrance into New Mexico very special. Wonderful views and very friendly owners. We would definitely stay there again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We stayed here on Passport America. Very nice folks; they escorted us to our site. Just far enough off the road so there's little road noise. Pretty. All gravel sites. They allowed us to use a bucket and brush to wipe down the RV. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Good little stop over. Nothing fancy and provides a good view. Owner guided us to the site just up the hill. Its at almost the top of the summit. Bathroom/Showers were clean and water hot. Nice. Not sure if this is a place to stay for very long. I was here for just one night. We camped here in a Truck Camper.
What a great little RV park. Staff super friendly and helpful. Placed us in a very nice spot even though we used Passport America. Showers were great. Will plan to spend more time there the next time we go through. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We appreciated most the courteous welcome of the owners and staff at Cedar Rail. We were led to our site (which we appreciated). The view is wonderful and everyone there was so friendly and helpful. We stayed two weeks and now wonder why we didn't stay a month. This park is right up on Raton Pass, was cool and the view is awesome. We look forward to being able to go back again!! We camped here in a Motorhome.
Great place to stop when you are tired! Views are nice, owners are very helpful. We were having mechanical problems with our truck, he recommended a repair shop and even offered to come pick us up if we couldn't get the repair done that afternoon. We would stop again if we are in the area!! We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Would have been a 10 but the WIFI is somewhat flaky. Very nice views and the weather was GREAT! Owners are super nice. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This is an excellent park for an overnight stay. We had a pull through site with 50 amp service. The site was very level and all utilities were in working order. The sites are close together, but this was not bad considering this was for a one night stay. The bathrooms and showers were spotless. The employees were very friendly and helpful. The RV park is about 7 miles from town right at the top of Raton Pass. Nice views. No pool or entertainment for kids. We'll definitely stay here again for an overnighter. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This was an oasis for us with wonderful views and cool weather. The owners were super-friendly and keep the cleanest restrooms I have seen. This is a small but first class campground. Don't pass it up! We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Fantastic views, level sites, all hard gravel. We were backed up and had a beautiful view out our back window. Great place to stay a few days or just overnight. Close to I-25 but road noise is not bad. Easy on, easy off. All facilities work great and park staff is very helpful and friendly. Cg is at 7,888 feet at the top of Raton Pass so when you leave either way you can coast for miles. Take exit 460 off of I-25 and follow the signs. We would stay here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Great park!!! Friendly owners on site, very helpful, knowledgeable and social. Sites are large with plenty of room to get in and out. We had a pull-thru but would have had no problem with a back-in. Sites are level and clean. Hookups are very handy and well located. We would camp here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Great people, excellent park, beautiful views. This park is at a higher elevation (7000+) so it can get cold at night. We stayed overnight and it was a great stopover. We did see the Manager picking up dog poop and there was some on our site next to the utilities but that is not the fault of the owners of the park, but the owners of the dogs. Rate reflects passport discount. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Close to interstate highway, but very quiet. Beautiful views in all directions. We had a pull-thru and didn't have to unhook the tow vehicle for our overnight stay. Our site was so level when we lowered the jacks, we were done. Owners are great and very helpful and friendly. It's a perfect overnight stop. We would definitely stay there again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Park is located on frontage road but with very little highway noise. Easy access for big rigs with level sites and a beautiful view. WiFi works good and is free. The park is owned and operated by a very friendly family. Our coffee pot went out and they made sure we had fresh coffee early the next morning. If you are in this area give them a try. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Great park to overnite. Staff is super friendly and helpful. View are outstanding. All sites are level and restrooms, etc. are excellent. Would definitely stay here again. Camped here in a fifth wheel. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This campground is located atop Raton Pass at an altitude of almost 8000 ft. There isn’t much to add that hasn’t been said in previous reviews. There is a nice view on back-in sites, but I preferred the pull thrus with more room. All sites are level. Cell reception, water and voltage were all good. No cable, but you can pick up several TV stations and satellite reception from any site. There aren’t any trees so access in and out and parking is easy. Shade isn’t needed at this altitude. Nice cool evenings. Bring a blanket. Rate reflects a Passport America discount. We camped here in a Motorhome.
High in the mountains with lots of wildlife around, this park is a great stop for overnight or a short stay. Fifth-wheels with a view out the back will especially appreciate the sweeping views from many of the back-in sites. Management clearly cares about their park and their guests and guides each to their location. Cedar Rail RV Park is about 8 miles from town, so don’t plan to walk in for groceries. We will stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
A gem of a park. Very small, clean and a view to die for. The owners want only to please their guests and they do a fine job. The facilities are neat and well thought out. If they had a pool, I would have given a 10 We camped here in a Motorhome.
Very nice, extremely clean, well-maintained campground. Cleanest bathrooms/showers that we've seen in a long time! Spectacular views. Friendly office staff. We were escorted to our site. Wi-fi worked great. Campground is close to I-25, exit #460, but we didn't hear any road noise. We will stay here again the next time we are passing through the area. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is a wonderful, small campground at the top of Raton Pass (watch closely for Exit 460 when travelling south on Interstate 25 - it's a long way to the next one if you miss it). It has a super nice staff, clean buildings, very nice restrooms, not much road noise, and fabulous views. Go up the dirt drive from the office to gravel and nice level sites. We stayed only one night but are looking forward to staying longer in the future. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Very very clean campground. Excellent views at campground since it is at the Raton pass at nearly 8000 feet. Friendly staff with escort to site. Most of the campers were overnighters...shame since there is several days worth of activity in the area. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Excellent campground, well maintained. The owner/managers put their hearts into the campground and it shows. Beautiful new restrooms and showers. Great views from the campground since it is at the top of Raton Pass. Very quiet even though I-25 is not far away. That is always a big deal for us. Plan to return and to set up our telescope because of the dark skies. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Right on the Colorado/New Mexico border near I25. We were parked on the cliff with a beautiful view. The sites are gravel. Only great thing is the view. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Campsites are very close to each other, but are level and clean. The view is fantastic, escort to your site, still building, looks like this campground will have a great future. I would like to stay there again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This RV Park has been undergoing a major facelift--no-make that a full makeover--in the last couple years. When we arrived, renovation of the park office reception area was in high gear, and we were escorted to our site and assisted to park. The owner has upgraded and transformed the previously-neglected property with care and attention to detail. Sites are large, level and gravel; many have 50 amps. The immaculate laundry/restroom, located in the center of the small park, has new appliances. The water supply arises from a mountain spring and tastes incredible. (There is talk of bottling it!) In-coach free WIFI is a welcome treat for the internet-deprived! The busy owner stopped what she was doing to assist me with a special request. And the view of the valley from this mountain summit is spectacular, as is the sunset. I couldn't want more in an overnight RV park! By the time I return next year, I expect to rate the "finished" park a "10" and stay longer. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This RV park has a beautiful view from the upper back-in sites. You'll see wildlife! It is at the top of Raton Pass, just off I-25, so you can hear trucks climbing the hill from some sites. Also, it's a bit winding up there. However, the new owners (three years) are making this a very nice, well-maintained park, and they are very friendly. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Sites were unlevel, unimproved, campground was unkempt. Site dimensions were to center of driveway, very, very small. Definitely a Woodall rated three star. A lot of permanent residents which added to the unkempt conditions of park. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
While the NRA Whittington Center is owned by the National Rifle Association, it is open to the general public. You don't need to be an NRA member to camp in this unique campground. Situated on 30,000 acres bisected by the historic Santa Fe Trail, the Center is home to a protected herd of Pronghorns which frequently visit the camp area. Located just three miles Southwest of Raton on US 64 the campsites boast splendid mountain views and prime facilities for any adult interested in shooting sports. Restrooms and showers are large and clean. Level gravel sites. A small cafeteria is located on the property. We camped here in a Motorhome.
I hate to give this KOA such a low rating because the owners/staff were so nice when we checked in, but it really is not very attractive. The whole place is dusty gravel. Sites are narrow, and ours was side-by-side putting us very close to our neighbor. The restrooms were old and worn but looked clean. Cable TV had good reception and lots of channels, but the free Wi-Fi was very weak. One area (possibly for tents) did have some large trees, and there was a descent looking playground, but this did not make up for the overall look of the park. We would choose somewhere else next time. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Camp ground was clean. Bath house and laundry room was clean. Friendly staff. Plenty of room for big rigs. Nice little town to visit. Would stay again but not eat at K Bob's again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Very basic campground. Ok for overnight stay. Staff friendly but not very helpful. Our truck broke down and we needed a dealership for parts and repairs. Staff couldn't even tell us if a dealership was in town nor did they offer any assistance to us during our 3 day stranded/stuck here stay. Office closes for hours during the day. Cable connection didn't work at our site. (800) 562-9033 We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Nice older park. Family owned and very friendly and helpful. Escort to our site stayed to make sure hook up went smoothly. No real amenities, but excellent park for "passing through" overnight. Easy to maneuver our 40 foot motorhome with toad into pull through site. At one dollar to wash and fifty cents to dry, this is the least expensive laundry we've ever seen in an RV park. Our rate was with the KOA "Value Card". We camped here in a Motorhome.
The hosts were very friendly and helpful. The park is an older park but has taken out every other site so that there is plenty of room between sites. We had a wonderful experience here and would recommend. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Neat and clean RV park with gravel roads and driveways; some grass between the water and electric sites. All sites are quite narrow and would feel cramped when they are all in use. WiFi at the edge of the park was weak and intermittent. Stores are near by. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Nice,Clean,Quiet,Far enough off interstate to be quiet,Close enough to be quick in and out.Close,Walking distance to restaurant. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Perfect for a overnight stay. This clean park is right off 1-25, near restaurants and shopping. All gravel sites with pull thrus. Very welcoming staff. We camped here in a Motorhome.
The staff was extremely friendly. Not much grass. It rained and was muddy. I was in a back space and didn't get Wi-Fi. Nice quiet park. I would stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
The staff is very friendly and helpful. The park is good for a overnight site. It rained very hard most the day & night, so we didn't wander around the park to check it out. We were parked near some long term sites and there was a lot of noise with them coming and going. The WiFi didn't work in the park, they told us it only works in the laundry room. The staff wished a happy trip on our way out, nice staff. We would stay here again if we need too. We camped here in a Motorhome.
The campground manager was exceptionally helpful in assuring that our hookup went smoothly as well as suggesting sites of local interest. This park is in town and convenient to stores and restaurants. The sites are gravel, somewhat close together but far enough from the highway to be quiet. Raton has a small but very interesting store-front museum across from the Amtrak station. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Dismal. Just an overnight site. Good 50amp and good wi-fi. Dirt, dirt, dust. And Raton has very little going to it. If only there were a nicer park nearby. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Excellent service, friendly staff. The hookups in the area we stayed were side-by-side, which I don't like, but these were staggered and had a wide space between curbside of RVs. WiFi had the speed of dialup but did work. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This campground had the nicest people running it I have come across in a while. However, as are most KOA"s, this one is simply worn out. The showers were clean, but it took 20 minutes to get any hot water, and when it came it was a mist instead of a spray, due to the worn out shower heads. The whole place was clean, but no pool, no pavement, worn out electrical boxes. The poor old campground is just plain worn out. We camped here in a Tent Trailer.
The park is not much to look at, but it is a really nice place to stay. The husband & wife team, are a lot of fun and very knowledgable about the area. There are a lot of things to see in the Raton area and the owners can point you in any direction you want for sightseeing. The sites are VERY easy to get into and level. The park pretty much fills up every night so during the season if you want a spot, either get there early or have a reservation. When they install their swimming pool &/or hot tub, things will be very nice. The voltage was very good and the only argument we have at all is that we could never get the WiFi to work. My computer could see it, but was never able to hook up to it. That is something that needs to be addressed since they advertise "free WiFi"! We will stay here anytime we are passing through the area! We camped here in a Motorhome.
Owners were the friendliest and most helpful I have ever seen. Within walking distance to restaurants. I would have given it a 10 if the wifi had not been so bad. Had to sit outside of the rig to be able to stay connected. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Spacious campground. Friendly staff. RV park offers basketball court, playground, arcade game room with pool table & horseshoes. Pancake breakfasts & ice cream socials are available in season & on holiday weekends. Also, cabins are available as is a laundry room & gift shop. We were passing thru Raton & the campground provided a quiet & satisfactory place to stop & spend the evening. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This is a very nice, quiet place to stay. It is far enough from the Interstate that there is minimal traffic noice. The owners are a husband and wife team that go the extra mile to ensure everything is perfect. We enjoyed our stay and will stay again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Raton RV Park – Raton, NM. Don’t know where to start with this campground. We stayed here on January 23, 2007. The park is located south of mid-town with entry off the main drag. Sites are small. The park is VERY tired looking and in need of maintenance. Watch for overhead obstructions from trees. No bathhouse. However…we only paid $15 for one night with full hook-ups. Before, we stayed here we went to another park in town, Summerland next to I-25 - no go. Raton is not a town where you’ll find outstanding campgrounds. We returned and spent the night at this park. Don’t expect much from this park, however, it’s okay for a night. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Confirming this is a fine park. Great fishing, hiking, quiet, beautiful, 2 sites with full hookups when the hosts are gone. Downside: No cell coverage except one spot by the showers. Showers are a mile down the road. Only vault type restrooms at the Alice Campground but they are clean. Upside: fishing, quiet, friendly staff and hosts, mail service at the visitor center. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This park is in beautiful mountain setting (elevation 7000') with a clear running stream, wildflowers and July nights getting down to 55 degrees. There are two fishing lakes full of trout. Many hiking trails are available from easy level to strenuous. Don't miss the guided hike on the Coal Camp Trail, where you will learn the fascinating history of the coal mining town (now a ghost town) that occupied this site during the first half of the 20th century. Few traces of the coal mining operation remain and none of them mar the beauty of this park. Sugarite is only 5 miles east of I-25, but seems a world away. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
OK park. Earlier reviewer mentioned a restaurant across the street from the campground, however, the restaurant is now closed down. Park owners & staff are very nice & helpful! Park doesn't have a lot of amenities but it's still an ok place to stay. They do have WIFI but it wasn't working correctly when we stayed due to lightning... we were advised that we could bring our laptop up to the office porch & get WIFI but that it probably wasn't sending a signal out to the park, however, we were able to pick up the WIFI signal from our RV. Lots of trees, park is quiet & clean. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
