Like many, I wish like their sister SC sites, the NC SRA campgrounds would provide come and go access after hours via a code. That said, if you can stand staying put at night then this is great place to visit. The lake is awesome, the sites are clean, private and spacious. Will stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This campground offers sites that are both very large and well spaced. Located well away from the highway, campsites are very quiet. There are numerous double sites which permit two travel trailers or motorhomes to locate close together. Note that double rates are charged for these sites. The park appears to be quite popular with local families and reservations are recommended for weekend days from spring to fall. One policy of the park is somewhat annoying. At 8:00 each evening (slightly later during summer months), the entry gates are locked. There is no way to drive in or out of the campground. This is very inconvenient if one wants to go out to dinner or engage in other evening activities. Since the campsites are a considerable distance from the entry, you must park a car near the entry booth. Upon returning, you’ll need to walk several hundred yards from the gate to your car. Be sure to bring a flashlight because there’s no lighting! Note that no parking is available outside the gate, so some form of pickup and delivery to the campground is required if you decide to venture out after hours. The rate indicated reflects the senior discount available to all seniors, regardless of place of residence. We camped here in a Motorhome.

The weather was beautiful and it was a great stay. Our site was level, water pressure good, even picked up 15 Raleigh TV stations with the antenna. Stayed in Section C, but Section B also looked nice. Couldn't get a site next to the lake, but it was a short walk down the road. Besides a frequent barking large dog somewhere, the campground was very good, one of our favorites. Don't mind the gates closing at 8:00 pm. The camp host was available in case of emergency. Campground is clean and most sites were easily accessible. The bath house is NOT heated so it can get a little cold in there for taking a shower. Tried fishing but succeeded in doing nothing but drowning worms. Water level was way up thanks to the 8+ inches of rain last week. Definitely will stay here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

All the sites in sections B & C were beautiful, large and had plenty of trees between sites for privacy. Our site C32 had a good view of the lake and you could access the lake from behind our campsite. I would have rated this campground as excellent except for one extremely annoying thing. The front gate is locked from 9:00 pm to 8:00 am. In other words, if you arrive back at the campground after 9 pm, you are out of luck and can't get in! There are steel gates and no way to get around them. If you park your vehicle outside the park entrance, you may find your vehicle towed. I have never been to a campground with a rule like this. It is ridiculous to have to return to your campsite by 9 pm and it is also rude to ask your visitors to leave before 9 pm so that they're not stuck inside the park. We had to pass on activities with nearby relatives just so we could make it back in time. The park was almost empty during the week: now I know why. We will not return. This was our second time here. This time we were in section "B". This section seemed a little noisier than section "C", i.e. road noise. The double site we had was huge and level. It was easy to back into. The bathrooms were clean, but sparse with no heat and the shower temperature is preset. We were able to pick up 8 local TV stations using our antenna, which was good enough to watch some football games. This CG is great for bike riding, hiking, fishing, and swimming (when warmer). The park is beautiful with trees, we could hardly see the next camp site. Gate closes at 8:00 pm. No sewer at the sites. This CG is closing in a couple weeks for Winter. Looking forward to Spring so we can make another trip! We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

We actually stayed here in July 2008. This is a beautiful campground and exactly what we look for. Very forested setting with sites that have privacy. We came in late at night and while we were unable to get a water front site, I still rate this campground as a 10. We originally planned on staying one day as a stop over, but couldn't bring ourselves to leave. We ended up staying 3 days and changing our plans. The lake is one of the nicer ones I've been to. While there were boats out on the lake, it was not too much to take away from the setting. The beach area was nice for the kids. The campground is not to far from Apex so you can take a drive in to re-supply, etc. We would love to come back and stay longer. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This is a beautiful campground with fairly level lots. We thoroughly enjoyed our very first family camping trip here. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Spent a long weekend on a double site on the lake front. The park was clean. The site was large and easy to back into as well as being level. Single sites are cheaper. Being that there is no sewer at the site, we used the bath house a few times. It was clean, but did not have heat. There was a walking path to the lake with a nice shore line, excellent for fishing; though the fish did not cooperate this trip. The CG has a boat ramp, too. The leaves were just beginning to change and the views are beautiful. We'll be back in the Spring. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

We stay here often. We are seniors and get a duplex site for $28. That way two rigs can use the sites. They are long and wide enough to accommodate two 5th wheels, with slideouts. You can beach your boat right on the shore next to the site. We would recommend this area for anyone who wants to spend a few days by the lake relaxing. Crosswinds has very easily accessible sites for RV's. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

We went with another couple and got a double site. It was great, we parked right next to each other, and was able to cook, play cards, eat well we were all together. That what RVing is all about. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Campground has large wooded sites with trees and space between sites. Waterfront sites are great but hard to get during summer months unless reserved for one to two weeks well in advance, same as all good campgrounds. Whole park area is well maintained. Area B is most popular area since it has lake beach swim area. No swimming pool available. Area C has the most dual sites, we love these for family and friends camping together. Loop A also has great sites but no hookups. Good hiking trails, not too strenuous. Lake is popular for boating, skiing, personal water crafts. Campground has its own boat launch area. Rangers patrol campground regularly and respond well to issues. We use this campground 3 or 4 times a year and always have a good time. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This is a very nice park with nice sized sites. Some could be laid out a little better and need some freshening up, new gravel and dirt. They are mostly level. The Bath houses were the cleanest we have seen them in the last couple of years. We enjoy the lake, the eagles, and just lounging around so this place is ideal. Not a lot to do close around. A couple of small gas/convienance stores are close but the closest grocery store is a little over 8 miles away. Our only real problem with this campground is the gate. It is nice to know it is locked to keep things at least a little safer at night but it is locked at 9pm. So you could not go to the fireworks on the forth, a baseball or football game or you would not be able to get in the campground afterwards. They also have No Parking Tow away signs outside the gates and along the main road to keep people from parking and walking in. We love everything else about the park and the lake. If you bring a boat, only one Marina on the lake and this year he was a little pricey, especially for gas. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

The good include, awesome sites with woods in between for privacy, beautiful scenery surrounding lake, very reasonable rate, easy big rig access, clean and pretty. The bad include, the lake water was hot and of questionable quality, too wooded for satellite signal. I would definitely stay here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

The sites at this park are large and for the most part secluded. However, we did encounter more than our fair share of ticks. You would definitely need to take some type of bug repellent, and there are signs there that recommend this as well. The swimming area is nothing special. It is the typical "roped-off" area meant to keep kids in and boats out. Overall a peaceful stay, but I am not much of a "lake person," so my lack of enthusiasm may be reflective of that. We camped here in a Tent.

Great state park in a good location, short drive to Raleigh NC, Good for people with boats or water craft, very dark at night, paved streets, big gravel sites, some for two families, there are four campgrounds on this lake & this one is better for big rigs, gate closes at 9:00 pm & opens at 8:00 am We camped here in a Motorhome.

What a great park. First time at an NC State run park - won't be my last. Sites are laid out well to provide privacy and they are plenty big. Quite a few are double sites - great way to camp with friends. All facilities were clean - there weren't that many campers though and I can imagine how used the bathrooms would be during the season. Great fishing, cycling, bird watching, boating. Swimming area just for campground, not open to public. I prefer Crosswinds over the other campsites at the lake. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

This was our 7th or 8th trip to Crosswinds CG at Jordan Lake. We were camping with our SS class and had to reserve 6 sites for all of us to stay together. Normally I would have just rode down and got a site for the weekend on Thursday evening, but with this being Memorial Day weekend I was worried we would be hard pressed to find 6 sites together. I was right. Everybody was camping this weekend. Best plans we have ever made booking early. We had a nice time and the lake was wonderful. Bathhouses were cleaned everyday and they even had a cleaning service come in 3 times over the weekend to help the park staff clean the houses. We had a blast, the Ranger's were patrolling all weekend. After 11pm all was quiet. This had to be one of best camping trips ever to Jordan Lake. Friends make a camping trip much better. I too have a complaint about locking you in after 9pm. I feel like that locked gate time could be extended to 11pm on a major holiday weekend. I understand short staffing issues but you have campground host make them earn their free camping space by locking the gates a little later. You are 10 miles from one the largest malls in North Carolina, it would be nice to run up there and not worry about having to be back before 9pm. But over all this is one NC's crown jewels of a lake and campground. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Wonderful setting in the woods by the very large lake. Closing comfort stations four days a week seems odd. Showers are on timers (30 seconds each "push" and single stream; stalls have no place to hold clothing so showers could stand some work. Main concern is being locked in from 8 PM to 8 AM and only allowed to have gate opened if there's an emergency. This applies to visitors. It also applies to you if you don't make it back in time...park your car outside the park and walk in is your only option. We camped here in a Motorhome.

I was impressed with this campground. The only problem we had was that the water connection was stripped and spayed water all over the ground and the camper. We ended up only turning it on when we needed it. Our campsite, B004, was a nice size and very wooded. The site was also very level. There were quite a few campsites on the water that would be great for when we want to tie up our boat overnight. There is a nice beach, and the boat ramp we used was very convenient. Campers can park their boat and vehicles overnight by the boat dock. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Very nice campground with beautiful views. This campground is used by many people with boats. They tend to beach them below their sites. Be prepared to hear boats coming and going all day. We had some noisy neighbors. The campground was very peaceful once they left. There were some people camped on Loop E across the cove/inlet from us (we were on Loop F). They ran spot lights on the beach well after midnight that shined into our site. Very annoying. The staff was very nice and worked hard to keep the place clean. They came around to empty the trash cans at the end of the sites at least 2x during the day. Some sites are tighter than others. Some are longer than others and some are on a hill. The website will tell you if the site is level or on a hill. Be aware that as a NC state park, the campground gates will close and lock at dusk and will not reopen until morning (typically open about 8am to 8 pm). You must be inside before they close or you will be locked out for the night. You can only get out in case of emergency. We will stay here again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Price is after senior discount. Very nice state park: shaded, wide sites, good privacy. Very quiet. 8-8 “curfew” keeps this place family-friendly. When I Iearned that UNC would have a home football game while we were there, I was glad about the 8-8 policy. Only complaints were extremely low water pressure and only tepid water in the shower. This is our first stay at Poplar Point. We usually stay at Crosswinds across the highway. Sites here are a little smaller, but level. There are no double sites either. The scenery is great, the water pressure OK, and access to the lake was limited from our site. TV reception from Raleigh was very good with our antenna. A very nice campground, but I still wish they had sewer. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

We stay here every year throughout the season. We started a little early this year, and found the campgrounds fairly messy. Ranger station unattended upon entry, however we were flagged down as we approached our site, and were asked about reservations, and then told that there would be a ranger by later with our paperwork. They seemed very focused for what manpower they had on checking the garbage cans often for beer cans or ?, coming through every couple hours. Seems like they could better use some of the time raking camp sites out from all the debris coming from the trees. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

We joined a group of other pop-up campers from a weekend at Poplar Point Campground. We reserved our site in advance (for a fee) and were right on a cove off the main lake. The site was large with a camping and tent pad, fire ring, light post, and picnic table. The hook-ups were convenient for the trailer. Right off our site, we were able to swim, fish, and boat in the quiet cove. We had a wonderful time. The restrooms were cleaned daily, but could have used more attention (that is why we marked this a 8). The rangers made regular rounds. As to the complaints about the gate locking, it is announced in their literature and you are told about this when you arrive. It may be an inconvenience for some, but adds to the family friendly nature of the state park, keeps the noise down in the evenings, and limits vehicular traffic after hours. We camped here in a Tent Trailer.

WARNING. NC state parks incarcerate customers from dusk until after dawn, 8 am! The gates are LOCKED and no exit or entry allowed. Parking outside the gate and walking in will get your car towed. Failure to make it by by curfew results in violating park rules of not leaving your camp unattended over night! This is a completely unacceptable place to vacation! We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Great state-run campground. Lots of sites, some directly on the lake. Lots of double sites for camping with friends ($44 for double sites, but most doubles are on the waterfront). It's a long way to a shopping center, so bring everything you need. Not much else to do in the area: 20 miles to Raleigh/Cary, 15 miles to Chapel Hill/Durham. Nice summer-time park with lots of fishing, boating, swimming, just relaxing in the shade. Propane and basic supplies available close-by. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This is a family friendly campground. Kids can swim at the "Swim Beach" which has sand just like a beach at the ocean. My children loved swimming in the lake and playing in the sand. We saw a few deer around the campground. When making a reservation, pay attention to the site and pad sizes you are reserving. They vary greatly. Some sites would only accommodate a tent and not a travel trailer or motorhome. We camped on loop "C". The bathhouse restrooms were clean however the showers were awful! The stalls were dirty with mildew on the walls and the showers operate with a "water-saving" feature. You press a button on the wall and the water will spray out of the shower head for approximately 20 seconds. It does not spray evenly and it comes out in a stream. Also, you have no control over the water temperature. It is set for all the showers with one temperature. This particular campground has a playground on the website map but we were disappointed to find it was only 4 swings. There is no baby swing for toddlers or younger children. Despite the few things mentioned above I would say this is a fairly nice campground especially if you like wooded, shady campsites. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

This campground is a nice place to stay for a short period of time. It is secured by a gated entry. However, one inconvenience is the gate is locked at 8:00 pm. It is family oriented: a nice weekend get-away. I would not recommend this for extended stay. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This is a gorgeous, sparsely occupied campground and very private. The pull-throughs are a joke though--there are only 22 (16 with electricity), and they are very difficult to drive through. My husband decided that it was actually much easier to back into a different space. Many campsites have lovely views of the lake--the sunsets were awesome! The wildlife were wonderful too. My children loved the little frogs and bats. We did not have a boat, but this is an awesome boating site. Many people set up camp, and then go put their boat into the lake at the boat ramp and moor the boat next to their camp. Like other reviewers, we did not like the 9 pm gate closure, but the campground did feel very safe. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

This campground is one of three in the Jordan Lake State Recreation Area that has RV camping (Parkers Creek and Crosswinds), there is another for RV groups only Vista Point and one area just for tents New Hope Overlook. We did not have reservations and at this time of year did not need them but at this time they only accepted reservations for 7 days or more. The ranger came around to the site to collect the money and at this time he told us that Crosswinds and Poplar Point are going on a state reservations system beginning April 22 for dates July on. Now you can make reservations for one night or up to 14 and the website is www.ncparks.gov/reservations.php There are a lot of sites on the water and we selected one in the woods looking out over the water so that we could put the kayak in right from our site. Nice site. All sites have a table, fire ring, and alot have water and electricity. There is a boat dock so that motor boats can be put in and then brought over to your campsite if it is on the water. A nice beach area on Jordan Lake which is huge. The cleanest and nicest smelling bathrooms I have seen. We really enjoyed our one night stay here the weather was great, the kayaking really good with calm water going around many inlets and coves, nice bike ride over hills and dales and friendly hosts and other campers. We've stayed here twice this summer for a week each time. The sites are very big, most are private, shady and level. There are a lot of water front sites. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

We have camped here numerous times. Great place to go for the weekend. Large shady sites. No sewer so we can't stay more than 2 days. We prefer early spring and fall, too many ticks in the summer months and the kids like to play in the woods too much. Nice swimming area on the lake. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

We have stayed at Jordan Lake (Poplar Point) at least 6 times over the last summer. It is a great place to stay especially if you have a boat or jet ski. The sites are very large and wooded for privacy. There are nice beaches by the lake if you do not have access to boating. Each of the campsites have their own boat ramps, but the lake gets busy during the summer weekends. We will be there a lot this summer too. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Poplar Point is a great campground! We camp there quite frequently as we live only an hour away. We store our boat at the Crosswinds Marina which is also on Jordan Lake. The sites are large and private. Restrooms are in good clean condition and kept that way for the most part. There are lots of trees and watch out for the squirrels, they will steal your food if left out or unattended. Yes, they can open some containers and most definitely most packages so put them up when you leave the site for any reason. We always get a site on the water so we can pull the boat up on the beach at camp site. Fishing is always great on this lake whether from shore or boat. The catfish are excellent eating so bring a frying pan and oil! We camped here in a Tent.

We enjoyed our stay. We had a large, very private campsite. Did not use the bath house but did use our bikes for bike riding. It was a great place to stay the weekend. We did not have waterfront, but would highly recommend this place to anyone. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This was our first time here, but will not be our last. The sites were large, with lots of space and woods between sites. I felt very safe as there were park rangers patroling. The bathhouses did leave a little to be desired. They were clean when we got there, but by the end of the holiday weekend they were a little messy. The showers were lukewarm. As a state park, there wasn't sewer hookups, but they had the nicest dumpstations I have seen. Beautiful park. They do not take reservations unless you are staying a week, but we went on Easter weekend and didn't have any trouble finding a site. This is a very nice campsite. The only reason I rate it a 7 is because of the early gate closing (9pm) and they do not give out the combination. The sites are large as well as fairly private...there are plenty of trees between sites. Our site would have been approximately 20 feet from the water had the lake been a full level (they were in the midst of a drought). There was no store in the campground, but plenty of stores nearby and you are only about 30 minutes outside of Raleigh. We will definitely go back. We camped here in a camper.

The view on the waterfront was beautiful. You can dry camp or use W&E. We did not use bathhouse-so no review for that. Our site was large and well shaded. We canoed on the lake. Lots of people fishing from their boats and from shore. Also lots of skiers and people on their ski-doos. We had a great time. We would love to go back. Take your supplies though - as it is a ways to get anything you might need! Great place - we'll definitely go again! We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Parkers Creek was a well maintained area of this large state recreation area. We stayed in loop #3. The weekend was a quiet one and found us with only a few of the surrounding sites occupied. Most of the waterfront sites in the park are non-electric. The sites are first come first serve unless you have reserved for over a week. The campground was extremely quiet and we were excited to see and hear bald eagles. The sites were very level side to side and access was effortless. Your pass while staying offers you access to the other areas of the park. We visited all of the other areas and found that Parkers Creek seemed to have the least amount of hills which is better for five-year-olds riding bicycles. You have access to several clean swim beaches with good sand for castles and playgrounds. The only downfall I found was the bath houses left a little to be desired. Only one out of four showers had hot water and there was no place to sit or put things on. Bring your boat, canoe or kayak, this is a great place to get on the water. When we visit again we will head straight to Parkers Creek. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
