We camped here for opening weekend of Carowinds. The best thing about the campground is the location. A shuttle (with friendly drivers) runs to the main gate frequently. Unfortunately the sites were small and very close. The grounds were sloppy looking (uncut grass) But the location would make us willing to return. Friendly staff. Bad thunderstorms with tornado warnings on our second night and the security went from camper to camper letting us know there was a shelter set up in the park. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Stayed here during the off season. You can't make the turn into, or out of the pull through sites without driving through grass/mud. Interior roads are narrow and need some TLC. We didn't come in off I-77, so we didn't have any signage about where to turn, so it took some exploring to find the entrance to this RV park. Okay for our purpose, but wouldn't go out of my way to stay here. Staff was very friendly. We camped here in a Motorhome.

The main thing that this campground has going for it is that it is on the Carowinds property. It's definitely not worth $60. Even the $40 off-peak rate is too high for what you get.The grounds are not particularly well-maintained and the campsites are not level. We suffered an ant infestation which we carried with us for the rest of the trip. I realize that there aren't many choices in the Charlotte area, but I would not recommend this one. There is a KOA in nearby Fort Mill SC. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Staff was very friendly. All facilities were extra clean. A little pricey, but, the shuttle is free to Carowinds. Regular parking at the park is $10.00 each day. So, that offsets the camping rate. The lodge has the best discount tickets available for Carowinds. Children under 48" tall are required to have on a life vests in the pool. This is negotiable after talking to the life guard. Pull thru sites are lacking grass, but all other sites have grass. Very nice campground. We will return to Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort. Call ahead for directions, the campground direction signs are missing near the end. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed at campground so I could take family to carowinds on season pass. For $69.99, the roads need to be repaired, there are a lot of pothole, and mud coming through. There is a tram that rums every thirty minutes to the park. If you have any disability, I recommend you drive yourself. I was about 25 feet from the tram and was told to run, i told the driver that it ain't gonna happen because I have had back surgery. When I got about 10 to 15 feet from the door, he shut it, and drove off. This happened on July 4, 09. I will not renew season pass or stay at a campground that has no respect for handicap people. We stayed here for three nights to allow the kids to Carowinds (Amusement Park). Park provided shuttle service to and from the park free of charge, pool, miniature golf and a very nice lodge. Facility does not have cable TV. Many restaurants and stores close to CG. This place is good for a max. three night stay. Carowinds can be covered in two days. One day for the rides and one day for the water park. More then that and there really is nothing else to do. Staff was extremely friendly. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This is conveniently located to the park and lots of things to do! the grounds are terrible, the grass is not cut, the roads have pot holes and mud holes. the staff was great! The kids have to wear life jackets in the pool; not sure about this? They do have putt putt but it needs to be redone. The price for what you get I think is a little high. They just need to clean up and make sure they are giving you $50.00 worth. I would check the KOA up the street! We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

The staff here was great. They were very friendly and knowledgeable. Shuttle to Carowinds entrance runs every thirty minutes from thirty prior opening and thirty after closing. My wife and children left the park after dark and the driver made sure they got to our site instead of just dropping them off at the shuttle site. There was good wireless internet access at our site which was site 91. I saw one wireless antennae on the roof of the Trading Post and two at the dump station each pointing a different direction. There was one more that I saw in the center of the Maple section. There may have been more but I didn't see them. The Trading Post "Lodge" area was very nice. The store area had staples and a few extras. There was a nicely updated small play ground, shuffle board and putt putt area. There is a nice pool (closed during our stay, out of season). The only con was that it is in the flight path of the Charlotte airport and you can hear the jets early and late but we have a sound machine so it was not an issue for us. We will definitely stay here again especially thanks to the staff. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

I would highly recommend this campground as good value and easy access off the highway. For good Internet stay in the sites behind the office ( Site 88-89 ). We could only see one central bathroom so if you are camping with someone like we were that had a tent trailer choose your sites around the office. Thy also have camping cabins. This is next to a major amusement park but was quiet on the Tuesday evening we stayed here. Might get noisy on the W/E. Just as nice as many KOA sites at half the price. It is Big Rig Friendly. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Very good campground, stayed at site 90 for 5 days and had to deal with a red-clay muddy mess for 3 of those due to T.S Fay since the grass was gone from this site, but it understandable due to the drought in this area of the country and we made the best of it. Wi-Fi was great, didn't have to leave camper to access the internet. We had to change our plans twice due to T.S Fay and Staff is very accommodating to our changes and very friendly. They have a security patrol that comes through about every hour or two. I would suggest that the park lower their rates since the park was closed during the week and only open on weekends before they finally close for the year. I will return to this park in the future. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Great place to stay when visiting Carowinds. They sell park tickets at the 3-day advanced internet price, which worked well for our last minute decision to visit the park. Shuttle was nice also and staff was quite friendly. Electricity was strong enough to run A/C and water heater on shore power. The sites closer to the lodge are quieter as there is some sort of factory near the sites away from the lodge. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Campground entrance was a little hard to find but once we found it, access was pretty easy. Checkin staff was great and had us checked in and heading to our site quickly. We were in the older part of the campground, site 78, but it was easy to get into and was level side to side but extremely unlevel back to front. Site was spacious and close to the pool (very nice), playground (our 5 year old loved it) and the mini-golf course (free). The tram to Carowinds was also very convenient and ran promptly on the half hour as advertised. Just an FYI to families. I wouldn't recommend Carowinds theme park on a Saturday if you have children. Sunday seemed to be a much better time. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

This campground has the best staff ever. Not only are they very friendly and helpful, but you can tell they are proud of the campground and love working there. The entrance is a little hard to find so pay attention to signs. You will pull in right next to the big wooden roller coaster at the back of the park, but it's very easy to get into once you are there. The shuttle to Carowinds is great. It runs right on the half hour as they say, and the drivers are always so helpful. We visit this campground often as we are season pass holders for Cedar Fair Parks. We have actually even stayed here when we were in the Charlotte area for a show or to go shopping for the weekend. We really enjoy this campground; it is one of our favorites. It does not have cable or park wide Wi-Fi but it is very clean, has a great pool, playground, and free putt putt. We will return many times over. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This CG is next door to Carowinds, which makes it super convenient to the amusement park and only 14 miles from the Charlotte downtown area if you're taking the kids to Discovery Place (kids interactive museum downtown). This appears to be the best place to stay in Charlotte proper. The trolley from the CG to Carowinds will save time and parking $$. Access from I-77 to Carowinds (Exit 90) is easy. Just follow the signs. The Cracker Barrel between exit 90 and the CG has RV parking as well. There is a "Blooms" Grocery Store on the other side of the interstate. CG is older and most of the "original" sites directly behind the check in lodge are not very level (Sites 75, 76, 85, etc.) so if you have a motorhome over 35', go to the new section on the left as you come in. We chose site 189 and it was flat and long enough for the motorhome and toad parked end to end. Roads and sites are paved. Sites in my section was not crammed together. Staff was super friendly, accommodating, and helpful. Too cold to try the pool but it appeared clean. Kids enjoyed the playground. Didn't have a need for the shower facilities or restroom. Camp store has some basic groceries. No cable but picked up 5 local channels. Overall, it's a nice CG and a safe place to stay for a few days. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Camp Wilderness is a really clean and well ran campground . Easy access to I-77 just south of Charlotte . All sites are paved and wide . They also have a shuttle bus to take to back and forth to the theme park that runs every 30 minutes . A great campground for family's with young children. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Friendly, flexible staff. Closest campground to Downtown Charlotte. Very low cost. Very quiet considering the in-city location. No activities for kids. This campground is for the persons who want to do their own thing and not require the campground to supply entertainment. Ten-minute public bus trip to arenas and Panther's stadium. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

I thought this park was perfect for our needs. There are permanent home sites on there but lots of transients for the Nascar Race and close to downtown. On a bus line so if you want to take public transit it's available. Very hard to find, it's behind the Phil Jackson Car Dealership (turn as you are going to the dealership, you will see a very small sign) Very nice people in the park. Although in the city, you can't feel the city feel inside the park. Hardly any locals know where the park is as it's hidden. My kids enjoyed riding bikes and chatting with the older residents. I will camp here again as the price is right and the owners are super nice and accommodating. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Used as a overnight stop and the folks were very nice. The major drawback was the park is in the flight path of the very busy Charlotte airport. We will stop here again as the noise wasn't that bad in our camper. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Okay park for a short stay. Large RVs like mine are parked off site on a paved drive very near to the 4 lane highway. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This park is primarily for long-term residents but it was neat and presentable. The transient sites were wide and level but quite close to the highway noise. Television reception was spotty with frequent dropouts. Verizon reception was good for both cell phones and wireless modem. The staff was very friendly and helpful. For $20: this a great place to overnight to visit friends in the Charlotte area. I stayed here 4 days and would stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This campground is not worth it. The owner is rude and doesn't seem to care about the people in the campground. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

This appears to be primarily a long term stay park. Lots of kids getting off the school bus, and few sites available for overnight. The area we were in had no bathroom or shower facilities. Our back-in site was long and level enough to stay hooked up. The staff was friendly as were the other campers. Access from I-85 was reasonable. In the early evening, there was some noise from an adjacent airport. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Park is full of full-time residents with one or two open spaces near the highway. Enjoy your sleep as "Jake and his Big Brakes" serenade you all night long. It's basically a gravel lot full of very old trailers and motorhomes. We planned on staying a week and left after 2 days. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Good place for an overnight in transit, especially for those passing through. Not much else to do. But the price is right and the staff was very accommodating. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Great stop over for the price only a few miles off I85. Looks like the area were we stayed is only a few years old. Gravel site was'nt really able to level right. But for $15 bucks I can't complain. Would go back if heading past again We camped here in a Motorhome.

We were in Charlotte for a soccer tournament. The bathrooms were awesome. There were unisex individual bathrooms with sinks and showers. The facilities were excellent. The sites were paved and weren't on top of each other. The staff was friendly and very accommodating. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Nice quiet park. All sites are paved but most are not level. Roads are good but tight. Sites are very big. Bath house is A+++. Dump station is difficult to access but OK. Only about 15 sites are available to RV's. Call ahead for reservations. Very convenient shopping nearby. Plenty of hiking trails and exhibits. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

The wife and I really enjoyed this park. Lots of hiking trails available, super clean and private bathrooms, courteous and polite staff, big sites, pull throughs, quiet, and the price is fair. Our travel trailer is 32' long so some roads were a little tight but manageable. Some sites can be a challenge in leveling. That's why I'm not rating it a 10. We will come back. This park is a hidden gem in Charlotte. The Preserve itself is full of hiking trails and sits right on Lake Wylie. The RV sites are tucked (somewhat tightly) in tall pine trees. Some of the spaces are a bit out of level, which isn't really a big deal to me. A really nice bathhouse offers private bathrooms, which is rare it seems for a city park like this. I'd certainly stay again, and already plan on it. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

A small jewel in Charlotte. A wonderful place to walk and enjoy nature. Bathrooms are not only clean, but private 8 X 10 full baths! Staff was very friendly and helpful. Big rigs, make reservations early. All sites pull-through. I wish I could have spent more time. I will go back. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

I agree with the last review. If you have a large rig like ours you need to call make sure you are assigned to one of the longer sites. Nice park with a trail to the lake. Lots of restaurants and shopping nearby. New restrooms that are clean and well maintained. We would camp there again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

The site that I stayed in was a large pull through that had 50 amp service. I think they only have 12 or 13 in the whole park so make sure you have your reservations. They had a new attendant when I made my reservation that actually assigned 2 of us to the same spot. Luckily we noticed it and had it changed. It is advertised as big rig friendly, but the roads were tight with my 38foot and their were a lot of low lying tree limbs. The site were level in the middle with small gravel. Picnic tables and fire rings were provided. Make sure you use your water pressure regulator. With the regulator, I had the best water pressure I have ever had. Overall this was a nice campground. Strange that it is on Lake Wiley but does not have water access. No beach or boat ramp. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

This is everything a campground should be. Large, well separated, private fairly level sites . Our favorite round steel fire rings. Friendly, helpful staff. Bathroom/showers are heated. Bathrooms will be replaced temporarily with porta-potties from December 07 to May 08 during construction of new facility. Quiet and peaceful. We will stay here again. Only 13 of the sites are RV sites; others are tent or tent trailer sites. May be full in summer months?? We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

This park is a nice place to use as a home base. If you are looking for a destination, this is definitely not the place for you. No swimming of any kind even thought the park adjoins Lake Wylie. Fishing is available but with the drought, the water is down and fishing from the several piers was not so much fun. It is not a flat park by any means so biking is OK for those that like hills. The park does have several nice playgrounds for children. It is close to restaurants and grocery stores, but no camp store. The sites are for the most part very level side to side. Some of the fronts do drop off pretty quick. Small park if you take away the tent sites that are included in the total number. We will definitely go back as we enjoy the solitude. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Staff is very friendly and helpful. The park is definitely better suited for small units or tents. The roads are narrow with branch overhangs. The lots are shaded and the park is quiet. Very convenient to Carowinds and shopping. We were in a 38" MH and were able to use our slide and utilize the dump station. Would stay here again when visiting Charlotte area. Stopped at the office to check in only to find the front door locked. The office is all glass so I could easily see the elderly lady sitting at the desk. She just stared at me sort of sizing me up. I honestly believed she wasn't going to let me in. She eventually worked her way to the door and slowly unlocked it. I could tell she was very nervous at first but eased up a little as we talked. She struck me as very paranoid or very afraid to be left in the office by herself. We were assigned site R2 which is unacceptable if you want to use your awning. Only about 2 feet of room on awning side of trailer. The site is very narrow and barely accommodated our slideout on the opposite side. There are only 13 RV sites in this campground. The rest are tent sites. We have a 35' trailer and found the roads way too narrow. Tree branches scraped the trailer on every turn, and there are many turns in this small campground. We didn't even use the dump station since it looked like too much of a hassle trying to maneuver into it. Whoever designed this campground is probably not an RV'er since it is not RV friendly. The second day we were there my wife went to the office to get a campground map. Again, the lady had herself barricaded in the office with the door locked. I just don't get it. Will not stay there again as it was not an enjoyable experience. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

This campground is part of a large nature preserve in Charlotte. It is about 5 miles from Carowinds. The campground has an unusual feature in that the campground has "Rent a Tent" sites where you can rent a site that is already set up with a tent and cots to see if you like camping. This would also be ideal for extra guests. The bathhouses are old but clean and the staff is very friendly. All sites have a lot of shade. The only reason I did not give this park a 10 is because the roads are very, very narrow and it is hard to drive your RV into many of the sites. We had a difficult time parking our popup camper and it is small. Also, the water and electric hookups for each site are placed at very odd and inconvenient locations. Sometimes, you have to share water hookups with other sites. However, I would stay here if I were in the Charlotte area again especially if I were going to Carowinds. There is a beautiful lake within the nature preserve yet you are also near many places to shop. We camped here in a Tent Trailer.

We camped here while visiting the Carrowinds theme park, only took us 10 minutes to get to the park from this campground. The sites were decent sized and there was space between them. The fire pits were large and had built in grates you could flip over to cook on. The bathrooms were fairly clean, however a little run down. The playgrounds were very clean and maintained. The hiking trails were clearly marked. There were paddle boats available for rent and a pier for fishing. We didn't have time to visit the actual Nature Preserve however it looked nice. We camped here in a Tent.

We had a great time here. The staff was very friendly. I arrived before my scheduled check in time and they went ahead and let me park in my reserved spot. They also allowed us to stay after the 11 o'clock check out so our kids could swim for a while before we left. Very clean and quiet. The shuttle was always on time to take us to and from Carowinds. We will definitely stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.

My family stayed at Carowinds campground in June. We stayed in a pop-up camper. We had a wonderful time. There are many things for the children to do they have shuffle board, miniature golf and swimming all free. They also run a shuttle to Carowinds every thirty minutes. We have season passes to Carowinds so this was great. We camped here in a Tent Trailer.

This is a very nice park and close to activities in Charlotte or for visiting South Carolina. The laundry has just 2 washers and 2 dryers but the good news is they are free! We stayed there a week in December and there were only 6 to 8 others camped there each night. We'd stay there again if we visit Charlotte again. We camped here in a Motorhome.

They advertise that there were a couple million dollars done in improvements, but I did not really see much different from when we were there about 5 years ago. They have added 50 amp sites with new power poles/water spigots, camping cabins, and wi-fi internet. It looked like the area of 30 amp hookups has not changed at all. The main reason we stayed here was the convenience to the amusement park. The shuttle was reliable. Other than that I thought the rate was high for what they offered. Because of trees, we were not able to get a satellite signal. If you needed satellite, I would consider staying in the last row of the Maple or Oak areas. There were not as many trees to the south. The sites are paved and ours was fairly level. They keep the entire area clean. Overall we enjoyed our stay. We would stay here again to go to the amusement park. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Sites were very uneven. Pool closed at 7:00 pm which sucks since we prefer to swim in the evening AND it needed cleaning .... many leaves and sticks etc. all over the bottom. Putt putt course had leaves and sticks all over it. Bath house was air-conditioned but needed cleaning. They must have spent the money they used for renovations for the cabins and on the lodge as we saw no other evidence of other upgrades. The camp store had very little in it. We liked the KOA in Fort Mill (1 exit away) much better and it was 33.00 instead of 50.00. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This campground is great!!! New cabins, new 50amp upgrade, new water and sewer lines. Needs some type of games in lodge.would like to see some type of activities around campground besides the park. Shuttle to park is great,.runs every 30 minutes. Bathhouse is clean with hot showers. Overall campground is great. Would stay there again. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Paramount has rebuilt the Carowinds theme park. They replaced all the electric and water/sewer hookups with new ones. Much paving has been done and all the picnic tables are new. They are playing on the disney theme with the name "camp wilderness". Overall we had a wonderful time. This is great for a family vacation - the shuttle to the theme park is reliable. The theme park and waterpark is awesome. The staff is very helpful. Bathhouses are clean - showers are very nice with individual stalls. They need new partitions on the toilets - they used the old ones and they should have been replaced. The lodge is very nice - store is adequete. Pool is manned by two lifeguards - minature golf is older - but FREE so how could you complain. Good place for kids to pass the time. One drawback - no cable tv. Real close to the Knights AAA baseball games at nigt - Wal Mart - 5 minutes away on the new 485 - Overall a very nice time. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Just wanted everyone to know that Paramount Carowinds has closed their campground. At the present, they have not determined if they are going to reopen the campground. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Some of the pull-thru sites get muddy when raining as there is little grass. Most are shaded and easy access. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Campground in conjunction with an amusement park. Difficult entrance is actually back entrance to amusement park. Good value for park close in to major metro area. Good security and friendly staff. Nice sites. We camped here in a camper.
