The actual name is the Apple Valley Motorcoach Resort. It is located within the Rumbling Bald Resort and is reached through their website and phone numbers. The most beautiful RV resort we have ever stayed at. Originally developed to accommodate Prevost owners only, it is now available for public use (class A coaches only). Most sites face a beautiful lake with magnificent scenery everywhere. Tons of stuff to do at this resort. 2 golf courses, boating, tennis, exercise area, on site restaurants, hiking trails, chapel, etc. All sites are fully concreted, some with gazebos, grills, swings, waterfalls, water wheels, etc. View the website photos of each lot. Located near Lake Lure, Chimney Rock, NC Hendersonville and Asheville, 30 minutes away. There are numerous restaurants and shops nearby in addition to a large supermarket with diesel. If you book more than 3 nights, you get 2 nights free. A true sleeper and relatively unknown to most RVers. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We camped at this campground over Memorial Day Weekend in 2000, 2001, and 2002 and never saw the owner being disrespectful to anyone. That being said, he ran a tight ship and seemed to be everywhere. We drove through Lake Lure on August 13, 2005 and everything in the campground is gone. The office, buildings, cabins, nothing remains. Grass is growing where the buildings used to be. We really liked this campground and it made us a little sad to see it closed. We camped here in a Tent Trailer.
This campground property was sold last October. The property is no longer a campground. Try Hickory Nut Falls Family Campground or River Creek Campground. We camped here in a Motorhome.
If I had read this forum first, I probably would not have stayed at this park. But I didn't so we stayed at the park in early August 2004. We had a pleasant experience. Never witnessed the owners ranting. They were very helpful and courteous. It was a small park, but that was part of it's charm. We thoroughly enjoyed it and would stay there again. My family stayed at this campground in September. The owner is very controlling and not very friendly. He had rules on everything. We have 2 boys and I was afraid to let them out of the camper in fear we would break a rule. This is not a cg for families. We also have a small dog and we were not allowed to walk her anywhere. I have never been to a cg where you cannot walk around the park with your dog. (I always clean up after her.) We were told to read the pet rules and all of the other rules for the campground (3 pages full). On Saturday we looked for another campground to use. We will never stay at this campground again. It is up for sale: I wonder why. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

This park is not the hades it has been made out to be in this review. We saw no flare-ups during our stay. The owner does keep a close watch on the place and seems to be everywhere. Consequently, the park is well kept and free from trouble. If you want to camp in a nice campground, have a campfire, drink a cold beverage, and enjoy the mountains, you'll have no trouble here. I will camp here next time I am in Lake Lure. The town and lake are also fantastic. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Lake Lure RV Park is an excellent family campground. We have camped there for the past 7 years and go almost every week. Pat and Lou run a clean and well kept campground that my family loves and feels very comfortable in while staying there. Granted there are rules to follow, but if you don't have rules then you don't have a campground that you feel comfortable enough to allow your children and family to stay in. My daughter and I go frequently without my husband (due to work schedules) and I know that Lou and Pat will assist me in anything I need. I know that we are safe and we can rest peacefully at night. The gates are locked for our safety at night and Lou frequently rides around the campground checking on other campers and noting any problems that may arise. Pat and Lou are very gracious people and my family has enjoyed the park. We look forward to going every year. My child has practically grown up there. She was 6 years old when we started visiting and is now 13 and still loves to go. The pool is well kept and the bathrooms and showers are always exceptionally clean. The grounds are always cut neat and playground equipment is in good shape. Pat and Lou are very nice and run an excellent campground. Their rules are what keep the campground a safe family place to stay. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

We had reservations over 4th of July, 2002. We had stayed a previous night at Black Mountain. When we drove down in our vehicle, we ignored the register at office sign. My husband, myself, our three children, my in-laws with their daughter & fiance were attacked most viciously by a skidding golf cart and a man who told us to get the H*** off the property. I said I was so sorry and that we do have reservations, we were just in the neighborhood and wanted to look before we moved. He again was aggresive verbally and I said I wasn't sure I wanted to stay in his campground if he was going to treat a customer this way. He said that if we were too "STUPID" to read a sign that he didn't want us there. CAMPER BEWARE The campground was not that nice and there is no water access because it is on the river part of the lake and you can't wade. Try Gilliam's Country Store in Black Mountain. Great place and awesome folks... We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

My family camped here over Labor Day Weekend. "Rude" seems to be the word that best describes Lou & Pat (the owners). We were immediately greeted with an unfriendly attitude. As soon as she found out that we brought bikes she slapped a rule sheet on the counter. These rules were "strictly" enforced. No Helmet-No Bike Riding...PERIOD!!! The campground was really nice and clean, but you were not allowed to choose your site from what was available. We never encountered any confrontations, but the camper across from us had guests, and they failed to tell the owners that they were there. Well, when Lou found out he blessed the campers and the guests out. He was very upset, saying that if you have guests they have to check-in at the office. They were all standing out in the parking lot fussing. "Big Mess" We really liked the campground but the owners ruined the niceness of it. "Rude, Rude, Rude". They can forget repeat customers...their lack of personality speaks loud and clear. We camped here in a camper.

We did not get an opportunity to stay here...THANK GOODNESS!! My husband & I went here to see what type of campground it was, to see if we would be interested in it. We missed the sign requiring you to stop in the office before entering the campsite. God forbid that should happen! The owner (or mgr) came running out yelling at us and we backed up to see what was wrong when he began yelling at us about his sign and that if we couldn't read then we could certainly never stay in his campground!! And believe me, we never will! There were some other comments exchanged and we left. This man was a complete lunatic. If you do decide to stay there, I would keep a close eye on my children and pets, I don't think the man is stable. I totally do NOT recommend this place to anyone. The town of Lake Lure should run this man out...he is detrimental to the reputation of the nice town. We camped here in a camper.

The above reviews are all true. At first, I thought the owner was helpful in guiding us into our site. The more I think about it the more it was him controlling everything in his little kingdom. He patrolled the park in his little golf cart like Hitler. When the gate is down, it's down and there is no getting in or out! I witnessed a poor woman who was trying to get a look around to see if they wanted to stay there in the future. At first I thought they knew each other and were joking about. No. He was screaming at her ordering her off the property since she didn't park where she was supposed to and threatened to call the police. Fortunately, the campers next to us told us about a different campground in the Smokey's and we went there. It didn't matter that I lost 5 days of paid camping; I just wanted to get out of there. Don't go there! It almost ruined our vacation! We camped here in a camper.

We chose this park because of their website, it is a very small park, but is very clean is well taken care of. Reading other comments, I agree totally...the park may look nice, but the ownership lacks a lot!! We have been camping for years...we have a pet who goes with us everywhere - that is the reason we got into camping, so we could take her with us. Never, EVER, had a problem at any of the other parks we have visited. Before we even got out of the RV, the owner AND his wife made negative comments about losing our deposit if we didn't keep up our dog. They have very precise RULES...not guidelines..and there are NO deviations from these rules, whatsoever. We had no problems ourselves, but the owner's constant "prowling", checking on what we were doing...let me add, we are an older retired couple, no drinking, no loud music...we don't even smoke! We witnessed several altercations with at least 2 other campers...the owner became incensed that campers who had a dog, and had cleaned up after the dog, had "allowed" the dog to go to the bathroom on their site..they
did not see the dog "doing", but as soon as they did, they picked up and washed down the area -- no trace left. He was totally unreasonable and RUDE, causing a stir throughout the park. The campers decided to leave, but he refused to refund their money; an adjoining camper tried to reason with the owner, asking him to please calm down. He made this person leave also, again refusing to refund their money. And, again, the police were called to mediate and get the camper's money refunded. Needless to say, we were very uncomfortable for the rest of the weekend, not knowing if we would be next for some small infraction we were unaware of. NOT ONE OF THE CAMPERS in the park that weekend left with a good feeling; I heard no one say they would return to this park. I feel like the owner could really care less...he'll just get the next camper coming down the road. My advice...KEEP ON GOING!! There are several other campgrounds in the area that were full; this park had vacancies all weekend. We camped here in a camper.

We visited this camp because we wanted to look around with the idea of returning. It is in a truly beautiful location - we recommend the area but not this camp. I made the mistake of entering the exit and I did not check in at the office before entering. However, what happend was totally outside the realm of normal. We expected that he would tell us about the park but instead he basically accousted us to the point that we were in fear of bodily harm. We were driving a rental luxury car and gave no reason for his action. We were so upset that we contacted the Lake Lure police who indicated that they have quite a file of similar actions by this man . They related one instance of a camper wanting to leave during the "gate closed" hours which resulted in the police being called by the camper. The Lake Lure Chamber of Commerce has a stack of complaints as well. This is an example of a camp that looks great in all the books but none of them can rate the owners' stability. We camped here in a 2000`

Although there were several sites available, we were not allowed to choose our site. We were escorted in by the owner, directed like an airplane into our site and parked precisely. We were given strict and exact instructions as to where to put our car. While we were there, one child was loudly ordered to put her bicycle up and not ride it again. It did not have hand brakes, and she was back pedaling to stop on the gravel roads. As we were leaving, our neighbor (who had just arrived and was still unpacking) was being evicted. He had a two room tent and only 1 tent is allowed per site. As the man tried to show the owner that it was 1 tent; the 2 rooms were sewn together and he could not take one down, he was ordered to pack back up and leave immediately or the law would be called. This is absolutely the first campground that I would STRONGLY recommend a camper to PASS UP! The new owner (summer of '99) advertises this cg as family yet he evicted my family and called the police lying about his accusations toward us in the middle of the Labor Day Holiday weekend. My daughter and her friend were playing with about 18 rocks from the road (they had constructed a fireplace for their dolls on our patio pad) when he
ordered them very rudely to return the rocks to the driveway or he'd have them arrested. These two 10 year olds came inside the RV crying from this man's rough treatment of them. I personally had witnessed him mistreating another camper's son the evening before for riding his bicycle on the grass next to the playground - told this 4 year old that if he caught him riding on anything other than the gravel again he would evict him and his family. When I asked him what the problem was because there were no rules regarding playing with rocks while not throwing them, he immediately kicked me out. He then left his stool, came into my face and threatened me. Next he called the sheriff stating he had a trespasser who was refusing to leave. The sheriff came, listened to both sides and ordered the guy to refund my money. He also refused to arrest me for vandalism and trespassing charges citing the owner had no case. This owner made a tremendous event of nothing! But worst of all, he truly scared the heck out of a bunch of little children that weekend! My suggestion: Stop by or call, explaining why your not patronizing their campground! We camped here in a camper.
We stayed here for 6 nights in August and found this to be a nice, well-run campground. Our primary concern with this campground is location. It is barely in the mountains and as a result, it was HOT! I know any area can have highs and lows throughout the season, but this campground is at too low an elevation (I would guess less than 500') to be considered "in the mountains." There are great views of the mountains, but just be aware it is more flatland the the mountains. Also, this is absolutely a family campground: there were kids everywhere! Lots of playing in the river, tubing, etc., so don't expect much quality fishing here. We might stay here again for a night as a stayover spot, but will spend most of our Western NC visit in more mountainous, community campgrounds. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This was the best visit yet! We have been here several times. The staff was always nice. There was Wi-Fi available at the game room. They have really updated some sites. The grounds were green and the playground was good for the kids. Everyone I ran into also seemed very happy with this campground. Can't wait to go back! We camped here in a Motorhome.

We have camped here over the past four years since the new owners have taken over and they are continuing to make great strides in improving the campground. Several sites for rv's have been re-graded and leveled and new pads poured. Fire rings are conveniently located on the sites. The staff here are friendly and helpful. The only downside would be the laundry is in the play/game room which sometimes leaves the floor gritty from the outside roads. It is easy in and out from either I-40 or I-26. We will camp here in the future. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
The only reason I gave this campground a 3 and not a 0 is because the owner/managers were so friendly and nice. We were supposed to stay 3 nights but only lasted one. Our view was of a chain-link fenced, back yard of a home where the grass had grown up above the waistline. We were right on the creek but our view was of this house and yard. In addition: the spots for motorhomes were small and fairly short. We were in a 37 footer and felt crammed-in next to our neighbors and the fence. Would never go back nor recommend to any of our friends. We camped here in a Motorhome.

We camped in July. Plus: Utilities were good. Easy back in. Concrete pads. Painted picnic tables. Clean fire rings. Best set up of fire rings I have seen won't melt your RV. Gravel where needed. Friendly staff. OK store. You can walk to the upper end of the camp ground, enter the river and tube to the lower end (15 minute ride). Nice. Clean river. Quiet, no road noise. Minus: Overall kind of junky. Most sites are next to a small, shallow tributary of river. However the river is not actually visible except from the extreme East and West sites: big disappointment. Need to trim bushes on tributary so it is visible from campsites. Dam only open on weekdays but water is deep enough to tube anyway. Only 5 channels on cable TV. One thing that was odd was the "NO Trespassing Private Property" signs regarding the river on the lower end of the campground and in the tributary; limits ability to explore river below campground and makes you think there are angry property owners adjacent to campground. Would camp here again if I could not find anywhere else. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This is a nice campground . Not very big , but neat . We camped next to the river and opened our windows and could hear the running river water all night . We spent most of the time visiting Lake Lure and Chimney Rock . The staff were very friendly and assisted in every way . They had apple trees across from our campsite that we helped ourself to (after asking) . We really enjoyed our stay and would camp there again . We camped here in a Motorhome.
This was a disapointment for us. When I made reservations I was told we would have internet service in our trailer and cable TV. We had four channels only and no internet service. If I went outside and sat in my truck I could barely pick up a weak signal if I sat just right. Maybe not a big thing, but when you are self employed you need to stay in touch and you pay a premium for this type of camping service. When I asked about the internet all I got was, "Oh well the signal goes where it goes" and no offer to move me closer to the hub or anything. They did say I can sit in the open club house when it was 40 degrees and use my laptop there. Otherwise they were friendly enough but the campground is in great need of repairs as most CG's in the area. The hurricane that ripped through these parts a few years back really devastated many of the cg's and most have never recovered. The grass is all but dead, tall weeds and just an overrun down appearence. It is a shame because it is a nice location and given some time and money it could be a nice place, but I am afraid it will follow the path of many others in the area. Sorry I can't say we will be back. The pictures on their website are definitely pre-hurricane. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This campground is a diamond in the rough. It is not anything fancy, but the owners are very hospitable and helpful. Additionally, it is very family friendly. We camped here with our children, and they thoroughly enjoyed the playground and the gameroom. The accessibility of the sites was ok (most are back-in). They were very level but somewhat narrow. We were not very impressed with the view from our site which overlooked the creek. However, we can blame only ourselves for this since this was a last minute decision. Next time we will book earlier and request a riverfront site. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
We have camped at several campgrounds in this area and found River Creek to be friendly - clean and a great place for our children, they loved the river. The playground has a small train for the smal children to play on - it is so cute! I was surprised the campground looked as good as it did, after all the damage Hurrican Frances did to them. The campground is near to everything you might want to visit. Ladies - the bathrooms and shower house are CLEAN! We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
We tried to camp here, however, the campground is not as expected by looking at their website. The campground owners are very friendly and accommodating. They even gave us a refund when we decided not to stay. We left this campground because the campground was burning trash and smoke from the burning trash was covering our campsite. Also, we were backed up to the river which also overlooked a mobile home with junk in the back yard. Very nice folks: just not what we expected. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This is worth the stop. Nice campground. The owners were great. We got to pick our site from the available sites and found one under a big tree. Our camper started to leak during a rain storm and the owners let us use their ladder and were so helpful in trying to get our little problem resolved. Having a small child we were unable to partake in the river rafting but it sure looked fun. Close to Chimney Rock and Lake Lure and other attractions. Thumbs up. Thanks! We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Very clean bathrooms, friendly management, not too much to do in the campground. Sites along river are small for RV's but perfect for tents. Other sites for RV's on the upper level adequate but overly spacious. Best part is the owners make you feel like you are at home. They have river tubing trips that are a blast. From what I hear it's probably the best run campground in the area. Close to Chimney Rock and Lake Lure. We camped here in a Tent Trailer.
