This RV park was a disappointment to me. The sites are close together and are basically unleveled grass. Some are difficult to negotiate given the trees. Wi-Fi was awful. The owner was friendly and gave me choices of sites but there weren't any good ones of the five she offered. We moved on after one night and would not return. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We camped here the first week in September, the campground and sites are small but clean. We did not use the restroom. They did not have any brochures on golf in the office, besides going into Ottawa for the day, there is nothing to do in the area. This campground is good for a 1 night stay. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
As we planned our visit to Ottawa so late in the season, we thought it best to call ahead to confirm that the park would be open, and to make a reservation. Unfortunately when we arrived, they had forgotten about us, and closed up for the season. They directed us to another campground 2 miles down the road which they believed was still open. Driving the loop to get out, we found the place was a bit run down, so perhaps it was for the best that we were sent elsewhere. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Park is laid out weird. Pull-throughs at end of campground are not defined well, leading to confusion and overlapping. I ended up having to back in to my pull-through. Sites are extremely narrow. We had an almost constant sewer smell at our site. Owner was very friendly and helpful when we checked in. Washrooms and showers are in dire need of a renovation. Definitely not a destination campground, but serves its purpose if you are seeing the sights in Ottawa. Really easy to get downtown from the campground. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
We stayed at Camp Hither Hills on July 30, 2010 for one week. We were escorted to several sites and allowed to choose the one that best suited us. Office was very helpful at giving directions, tips and sites to visit. WiFi was good, our kids enjoyed the pool and beach volleyball court. Washrooms are old but very clean, I saw them pressure washing the showers several times. They are in the process of converting their 30 amp PullThrus to large 50 amp PullThrus. Half have been done already. We stayed in a travel trailer in the PullThrus. Grass was cut several times while I was there. A very enjoyable stay, location was ideal, close to everything. Good Sam Park. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Staff at the desk is very friendly. We were put into a pull through site which was a long and narrow grassy area. We were barely able to put out our slide and awning. When another unit pulled in it felt like it was right on top of us. The weather had been rainy and we had a little trouble with being in a 9 inch rut. Leveling was a little tough. When parking, our tow vehicle created another huge rut, so when we left we had to hook up at an angle and pull out in 4wheel drive just to get out of the site and onto the road. The bathrooms are in desperate need of updating, and the electric and sewer are probably on their last legs. The only thing the place had going for it was that it was close to the attractions in Ottawa. It would be a place for an overnight stay, but that's about it. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Very open with very little shade or privacy anywhere. In fact, they were cutting more of the trees down as we were there. Pull-throughs are long and narrow and very close together. Some people may like this, we didn't like it at all. We found the hosts to be bordering on rude to our questions. We will not camp here ever again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Camp is very close to downtown Ottawa, a 20 minute drive to the Byward Market. Sites are close together but very long. No activities for children but there is a pool. A good place for a short stay close to Ottawa. We would stay here again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This is a back field that has been turned into a campground. You feel like you are in someones back yard. The sites are very long and skinny if two big units are together it gets tight. This is a place to stop over on your travels. Its a cheap place to spend a quick night and move on. I would not stay longer than that. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This is a great campground if you're going to be visiting Ottawa. It is south of the city and a very easy drive to anywhere downtown. You can even go back and forth on the Colonel By Parkway, a beautiful drive along the Rideau Canal. They only have four 50 amp sites but they are the newest and nicest in the park with solid gravel base and nice newly sodded lawn in between. The other sites are scattered around in grassy fields as indicated on their web site. While their website indicates wireless access, that may have only been from their office area since I was unable to "see" the net in our rig. Again, the big draw for us were the nice 50 amp sites and the ready access to Ottawa. They are also a Good Sam park. We camped here in a Motorhome.
If you have business or pleasure in the nation's capitol, you can't beat this cg. Almost right in town, just a quick blast down the 417 or 416 to everything Ottawa has to offer. Great customer service too. This is a gem. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This campground is ideally situated. Ten minutes east or west gets you to some great shopping areas. There is a bike path near the park that will get all the way to the Parliament Buildings. We were pleasantly surprised when we first visited this campground. Based on information that I had picked up on the web, I expected the campground to be much smaller. It actually covers a huge area. We have a 40' motorhome. They have sites that accommodate big rigs. Our site gave us total privacy. If I strained my eyes I could just make out the outline of the rig in the next campsite. They do have free Wi-Fi in the office area. My guess is that the campground is just too darn large to pump a Wi-Fi signal through the entire area. Anyway, the campground is gorgeous, the staff are friendly and helpful, the location is great. Hard to ask for more from a campground so close to the city. We camped here in a motorhome. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Best experience we have had in a long time, excellent service, super friendly, helpful staff! Extra large sites, few leveling issues, great fire rings and being from the US, found the wood prices a bargain. Laundry clean, $2.00 washer or dryer for 60 minutes also a bargain. Very close to bus lines into Ottawa and bike trails also shopping close by. This must be the best kept secret in Ontario as there were a lot of empty spots. I guess it was getting late in the season. We would recommend this campground to anyone. We spent 3 nights here and hated to move on. Only drawbacks: no 50 amp electric or sewer. We camped here in a Motorhome.
It is a nice park with asphalt internal roads. The campsite are large and basically level. The utilities are pretty good but we did need 50 foot of hose for the water connection. There are limited shower facilities. The rest rooms are clean and have hot water and soap. The down side is the internet Wi-Fi. You have to go to the office set outside to use it and the signal is weak even close to the building. There is only one dump stations which is busy at times. But the campsite sites are nice and private. It is close to a park and ride bus location so it make it easy to get down town from the area. Excellent bus service. I would have rated it higher except for the Wi-Fi and no sewer connections. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Large sites, some surrounded by forest, others in the open. Pretty good staff with helpful maps of where to buy groceries, gas, etc. Park abuts a beautiful wildlife area and there are bike/walking trails down to the Ottawa waterfront park. WiFi exists, although it's strongest in the office. Office closes early so do your internet work in the morning or afternoon. We'd stay here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Park staff only works until 6:00 PM. WE arrived at 8:00. The line up to get in the park was long and took 1 hour as there was only 1 Security Guard in a booth to register over 100 inbound campers for the first long weekend of the summer. In my view there needs to be a review of park staffing. The park is very nice, sites are nicely treed and private. Only 1 sewage dump we were lined up for over an hour with campers 20 deep. But all in all a nice park Only down side is it's run by the Municipality and therefore s-l-o-w. We camped here in a Motorhome.
The City of Ottawa doesn't know what a gem they have with this park...otherwise they would put some money into it and upgrade the facilities. On the plus side it is well located in a wooded area just off the Hwy and near the bike paths so you can get into the city easily by vehicle or bike. Although there are only back-in sites they are large and located in pods which limits traffic. On the minus side there is no sewer hookup sites which puts a strain on the shower facilities (one shower per 47 sites). The shower and washroom facilities are clean but are looking tired. The Wi-Fi hotspot is at the office but once the office closes you must sit outside to get service - not great for planning your next days adventures. Having said all this we will use the campground again while in the area but will limit our stay due to the lack of sewer hook-up. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This is a nice spacious park with sites arranged in pods of 7 to 9 sites. This keeps the local traffic to a minimum. Wi-Fi is only available near the office. A few tables and benches have been provided so if you have a good battery it is only a minor inconvenience. Sewer is not available at any sites and only 1 dump site is provided for the entire park. The dump was not busy when we were there so maybe it's not an issue. Rate is with CAA discount before taxes. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This park was a pleasant surprise considering it's a Municipal Park. The site we had was 3D8 and it was about 60 feet wide and about 80 feet deep. The gate is manned by security after 7pm which is a nice feature. My feeling that the $42 fee for not having sewer hookup is a little high. You could also have campfires at this park. It is close to anything one would want to do in and around Ottawa. They have one sewer dump either on your way in or out. This can get very busy upon checkout in the mornings which we encountered. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Sites are gravel - All back In. Services were on the wrong side at the 3 sites by us. No control on the breaker - it is a popout type but trips at about 26 amps. Our rig controls the current but the breaker must be weak. We stayed by the office so we would have one of 3 sites that MIGHT have WI-FI. Found that we have to sit with the computer at the window to get it. Have to go outside to connect. Poor signal strength. No Sewer. Nice arrangement with Grey Line tours to pick up customers at the office for the Hop on Hop Off tour. It was worth the $20 for one day much less the 3 days for the price. If in this area we would stay here again cause there doesn't appear to be anything much better in the area. We camped here in a Motorhome.
WOW! It is a large CG run by the city of Ottawa. CG is made up of pods with several CG's in a pod. Sites are huge: about 25' wide plus 15' or so off woods on either side of the site. Privacy is great. Sites are gravel and level (mine was less than 1/2 bubble off center). Big playground for kids and lots of open space in central area. Washrooms were very clean. Shower stall (singular in our washroom is correct) is gigantic, about 10' long. The floor is on pallets. WiFi in office area only and strong. Although 25k (15 mi.) west of the city, transportation is not a problem. They have an arrangement with Grey Line to ferry CG patrons to their kiosk, which is right in the heart of things in town. The shuttle is free, a 3 day pass to ride the Grey Line tour is $30. I recommend it. 80% of the tourist things are within walking distance of the kiosk, but the tour bus hits the other 20. And it is a hop on, hop off to see the outlying sights. What a deal. There is one shuttle down in the AM and a return late in the afternoon. Staff is very helpful. The only downside is it's nearness to Hwy 417. Some road noise. It's a gem! We camped here in a Motorhome.
Our two night stop was in a spacious partially wooded site near the office. Site was level side to side, but was on a slight downhill grade. Did not use Wi-Fi, instead using data stick which had good reception. Water and power services were good and while there is a dump station easily accessible, would rate higher if there were sewer service available at site. In season reservations would be advisable. Overnight security guard controls entry to Park for peace of mind. Would definitely stay again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Sites are large and wooded. Gray Line Tours runs a shuttle to the campground. Nearby bike trail leads to Ottawa River Trail. It's about 14 miles to Parliament Hill--a nice ride. Laundry has new front loaders. Wi-fi is available only near office (laundry, office, parking lot). We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Clean campground with lots of garbage cans, nicely trimmed grass, well-paved access roads and great newer playground for the kids. The washrooms are older but clean and well-stocked. However, the showers are dirty with mold. Very friendly staff and full-time security controlled access overnight. Camp store was stocked minimally but the prices were fair. All RV sites are accessed by one-way loop road and you must back into sites. Our site was big enough but the access road and site are very narrow which required some skill to place the trailer on the site. We camped overnight. Unfortunately, there is lots of highway noise (not more than 300m off Hwy 417) and train tracks are very close (though only passed by during the day). So I would suggest that this is a great alternative to a hotel room when visiting Ottawa but it is definitely not a "nature" getaway. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
I really like this park, has excellent access to Ottawa but only one site has a sewer connection. It has a really nice playground and a fountain for the kids to play in but no pool. The sites are huge, probably the largest I've seen in Ontario. The rate shown is based on a monthly rate (28 days), regular rate is $30/day. There is a small store in the office and the laundry room is really clean with lots of washers and dryers but expensive at $2/wash and $2/dry (1 hour). We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
The family who runs this park is very friendly and helpful. The indoor pool looked clean and well taken care of. It seems to serve as the community pool for lessons and aqua fitness classes. I am guessing that this was a more lively park in its day as there is a now an out-of-service waterslide at the front of the park. This is a park with a lot of potential that could use some renovation/upgrades. As an upshot, it is well situated near Ottawa. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

OK spot. Folks that run it are super though. They took us in after another park with whom we had a reservation, decided to close up early for the winter. A lot to be said for hospitality. Pull through sites are short. Our 30 foot motor home didn't leave room for our car, even disconnected. Also, not the most level sites we've seen. The washrooms, showers are rustic, but well maintained. Wireless internet is solid, and fast, but is $5.00 extra per day. (Not included in the rate quoted above.) Oh, and the park is on one of the approach routes for Ottawa airport. It can be a little loud first thing in the morning, especially the short hop, prop planes. Still, overall, not a bad spot, and handy to the city. We would probably come here again if in the area. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This park has two completely different sections. One lower section has W/E/S and is quite closely packed. Most sites in this section have a front to rear slope, making it difficult to level motorhomes. The upper section has mostly W/E and no services. It is more like state parks or provincial parks with a nice tree cover and a fair distance to other sites for a better privacy. The washrooms are older and could use some renovation, but they are clean. There is an indoor pool, but the room has only a few small windows, and is therefore quite dark. Wi-Fi is 5$ per 24 hours and works quite well. Weekly and monthly rates are available, but I don't remember the price. Especially on weekends there is a lot of smoke from fires, making it difficult for people who don't like to be smoked like fish. In conclusion, a good place to visit Ottawa, but a little investment to bring the sanitary facilities up to modern standards would make it better. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Not worth the money. We wondered why such a mature park so close to our Nation's Capital wasn't packed full on Canada Day Weekend but it didn't take long to figure out why. These owners have maybe been in business a bit too long. They have lost the 'passion' that is needed to operate any kind of business that deals with the public. Sites are very small. Pull thru sites are even smaller. Make sure if you are in the 'back in' sites you have a very long sewer hose as the sewer is located near the front of the site or at least was for us. We had to pull out the trailer in order to dump. Very large slide and water slide have been grown over and sit at the front of of the campground as you enter. Wood and ice good value but not much else at the store. Lots of open space and sites for that matter. Could be a great park but would need an investment of time along with a 'customer service minded' general manager. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This is our 'home park'. Only 15 minutes drive from home. We will spend many weekends here. Tennis courts are older. There is a playground for the kids. There are open sites (no trees) available if you want to use satellite: you might want to mention that when checking in or making a reservation. The pool is great, but the hot tub was not working. Not sure if it has ever worked. Water slides outside haven't worked for at least a decade. The first time we visited was about 10 years ago and they didn't work then. Pretty basic park. Very quiet and enjoyable experience. If you don't have a towed vehicle, closest grocery store is a 15 minute walk away. We camped here in a Motorhome.
The previous reviewers are correct: this campground is very worn. The roads are paved, but small. The campsites are very small and unlevel. My 37 ft motorhome barely fit into the campsite. Our towdolly and car had to be parked in the next site. Dish satillite could not be received, due to the trees. Several planes flew overhead during the day, but not at night. The tennis courts had grass growing through the cracked blacktop. The indoor pool was clean and a good size. The office person was very friendly and helpful. Ottawa is a beautiful city and well worth the expense. We camped three nights and enjoyed Ottawa. We camped here in a Motorhome.
The previous reviewer is right on the mark, I just want to add some more info. The longest pull-through sites are 60 feet long, all sites are at a 90ยบ angle and the roads are not overly wide, so with an over-sized RV you might have a hard time to get in and you might have to unhitch your toad. Almost all sites require front to rear leveling, but this has the advantage of draining well. The campground is on a major road into Ottawa, some road noise is present especially during rush hours, but for most people this would not be disturbing. We are fairly sensitive to road noise and did not find it a problem. Depending on the wind direction planes on their final approach into Ottawa fly overhead, but we did not hear any planes after 11 pm, nor were their any early morning flights. Wi-Fi is $5 per day, less per week or month. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This is an older campground. Buildings are showing their age, but still are well-kept and clean. Some of the equipment listed for activities are closed due to what appears to be longtime wear and lack of maintenance. Sites are fairly tight, giving some difficulty for bigger rigs to set up in back-in sites. The campground is located on a major road leading into Ottawa, so access to local attractions and sights is easy. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This campground is 8 miles south of the Ottawa city limits on Rt.31. The drive into downtown Ottawa is not bad, but parking in the city runs about $10.00 per day. There is also a public bus available. This is an older campground in need of some sprucing up. That said, the campground has level pullthrus with shade, picnic tables and fire rings. There is a large, heated, indoor swimming pool which is very nice. Staff members are friendly and helpful. We camped here in a Motorhome.
By giving this place a 5 I'm really stretching the truth. Grass/mud site that had been worsened by recent rain. Next time we visit Ottawa we will NOT stay here. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We camped here for 3 nights. It was very quiet. There are alot of older folks who camp here but the overall campground was very nice. It's close to Ottawa and i would stay here again. It has good WiFi connection and the people who are regulars here were quite friendly. If you are looking for a place close to Ottawa I would definitely stay here. Again it was quiet for us although the weather wasn't that good. There is a driving range just over the hill and lots of stores near by to shop. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This is a perfectly nice, friendly, well-run campground east of Ottawa. $29 for full hookups (30amp) is a good rate for the area, and the utilities worked fine. They turn on/off the electric (hydro) via computer which is odd, so if you arrive after office hours you may be out of luck if no one is around to help you. The pull through sites are the most popular, but the back-in sites near the road are the most private. Road noise bothered our friends but not us, it's a rural road and really isn't bad. The free wifi worked but like many campgrounds was very slow. Our US Dish satellite worked fine. They include a few cable channels in the hookup. We didn't use the facilities, so can't comment on that. It's in a pleasant rural area, and there's lots of vegetation around the grounds, making it a nice place to return to after a day touring Ottawa. Sites have grass and small picnic tables. The route to downtown is a 2-lane highway that turns into a freeway, and beware that the route can be congested during rush hour, increasing the 20-minute drive to up to an hour. Some take buses from Orleans (10 minutes drive east), but with four of us it was cheaper and more convenient to drive and park in a lot in the ByWard Market area. Tip: Ottawa has fabulous easy scenic bike trails along the Ottawa River and the canal where you can ride for miles and miles. The reasons I knocked off points: No view as advertised, slow wifi, uneven gravel pads (new 50amp pads are better but more $), distance from downtown, nothing to walk to from property. I would stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is a lovely, well-maintained campground about 20 miles east of Ottawa city. The sites are large and at least 30' in width. The roads are packed dirt, but not dusty. The sites are gravel for the RV with nicely maintained grass out your RV door. There are four sections of camping areas with grassy meadows separating each section. We were in Row 130 which are pull throughs and were easily able to use our Internet Satellite. We found it convenient to drive 7 minutes from the campground and take the public bus system into Ottawa. A great grocery store, Independant, is about 2 or 3 miles east of the campground in Rockland and is a wonderful market. The owners and staff were friendly, helpful, and did a great job of running the campground. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Nice park with friendly and helpful owners. Located about 20 miles east of Ottawa in a mainly rural area. Big disappointment is the standard of the restrooms. They are way beyond their use-by date and built of materials that cannot be cleaned properly, even if the effort was made. Otherwise, amenities are good. Wifi and cable is free and operates well. Good access and internal roads with wide sites and fire rings etc. Would camp here again as no others in the area offer the same amenities, but would not go near the bathrooms until things have changed! We camped here in a Motorhome.
Pool was large and clean!! Very noisy (by airport and train tracks). A lot of migrant/seasonal workers camping in their tents (and very close to each other). Wouldn't stay again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Rideau Heights Campsite is located right in Ottawa. The campground is relatively small however, they manage to put a lot of people in it. They take cash only and it appears it is first come first serve as we called ahead and thought we reserved a space, however, upon arrival they gave it away. The management gave no reason and therefore I will never return. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This campground is right in the city. It's small but quite well kept. Nearly always full. Just off one of the main highways (#16) that comes into Ottawa from the south. Train track very near the park but the convenience makes up for the noise. Price based on monthly rate. Cash only. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
