Nice park, all gravel drives and sites. Close to town. Friendly staff. Have a 45' with trailer and had to drop trailer in another area which was no problem. Nothing fancy but the price reflects that. WiFi is 2.50 a day and kinda slow at times, not sure why that is. Limited cable stations. Great scenery of the Davis Mountains and a great spot to do day trips out of. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is a nice, quiet, and blissfully dark park on the north side of Alpine. A delightful host welcomed us and offered to keep the office open late so that we could exchange books. Nothing fancy, but fairly large and level gravel sites with trees and nice views of the mountains. We'd stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We discovered this RV park and stayed for 5 days so we could get our mail. Not a lot of amenities but this seems to be our favorite kind of park. Clean, neat level sites, good power and water, clean laundry and the nicest staff. We are not fans of the "stack'm and pack'm" parks and don't need pool, spa, shuffleboard, etc. This little park is great and we would come back. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Nice little park on the north edge of town. Owner was very friendly and called a local restaurant to check if it was open; however, as mentioned in the previous post, was very strong on the 5MPH speed limit. Once we we set up, we were greeted by three beautiful and friendly campground cats, so I assume that's the reason for the speed limit concern. The pull throughs were of adequate size, hookups centrally located and satellite cable (11 channels) was provided. We didn't hear the coyotes, but were surrounded by coveys of quail each morning. We'd stay there again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
The park is clean and well maintained, but the rules apply only to the guests. We stayed here over the Christmas Holidays and did have a good time in the Alpine area. We will go back but will stay at the Lost Alaskan next time. The rest rooms arn't opened till after 9:00 am and shut down at 7:00pm. Hard to use if you want to get an early start. The speed limit is strictly inforced unless your "the owner" running your own dog in a golf cart at 15 mph (5mph to all others). One way traffic unless you work here then it doesn't apply. Do as we say NOT AS WE DO applies. We camped here in a Motorhome.
After a year, I am finally getting around to ranking this campground. We were on our way to cook in the big Terlingua International Chili Cook-off Nov 2004 & stayed one night at this park. The people that own it are apparently ranchers. We called ahead to get directions & were advised that they would meet us at the office. By the time we arrived, it was a cold, cold, windy night & even sleeting. We got to the office before the owners, but once they arrived, we got checked in & got a site. It was miserable hooking up in the extreme cold, wind & sleet, but finally we managed. There were only about 3 campers there at the time. We never had the time to really check out their facilities but we do know they had added a new building with tv. The campground overall, appeared pretty new, very clean & the lady that checked us in was very nice. The campground does offer a beautiful view. We would have no problem staying there again sometime. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We went to this RV camp beause it advertised "beautiful southwestern desert views" and
"360 mountain views,"--we were not dissapointed. The camp is located on highway 118, about 3 miles north of Alpine. It is located on a "working cattle ranch" with the park fenced off from the grazing lands. At night you can hear the cries of coyotes, and the moos of cattle. Trees offer some shade in the daytime. The 4783' elevation of the park means somewhat cooler temperatures and lower humidity than much of south Texas. We camped here in a Motorhome.
The park is very quiet and rural, with a great view and lots of wildlife. WiFi was very good after first day (there had been severe weather that probably knocked the modem offline), and the manager is very friendly. It is close enough to town to run in for dinner or groceries without making it an expedition, but if you want to make expeditions there are plenty of interesting places within an easy day's drive. Our only complaint (not the park's fault) is that our AT&T cellphones got no signal here, but with excellent broadband WiFi we just used VoIP. We will be back. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Great little park S of Alpine. Nice rec room with cooking facilities and a refrigerator. Wi-fi worked well. Extremely quiet and a great place to watch the stars. Friendly owners who gave a Good Sam discount, even though Good Sam wouldn't officially accept the park because it wasn't big enough. Sites required wood blocks under our leveling jacks, so they could have been a bit more level, but potential drainage issues might necessitate a bit more slope in this area. Would happily stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Great view and very quiet. Especially nice at night as the stars are clear due to no streetlights We found it to be ideal for our purposes as it was conveniently located to make day trips to Big Bend and the MacDonald Observatory as well as the University. The owner was very pleasant and helpful and lives within view of the CG. It had one long term resident and the remaining sites were used by travellers for short term stays. It is at an altitude of one mile and that is 1000 foot climb from Alpine. The only caveat I can think of is that it would not be a great place for children who are accustomed to being entertained as there is no playground pool or cable TV. We will go back there for sure. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Tthe roads are not paved, but no one speeds. The view is perfect, the nights are cool, and the days are hot. Wild life is everywhere (quail, mule deers, jack rabits, cotton tails, white tails, wild hogs, cows). 6 1/2 miles south of Alpine on highway 118. There is not a lot to do for children, but it's great if you want peace and quite and rest your soul from the hustle of life, sky at night is so nice you just sit and look w/your mouth wide open. It is about 5200 ft. up so you'll need a jacket at night. All sites are pull thru's. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is as good as it gets in this part of Texas where the land is sparse of trees and grass. The park has naturally gravel roads and parking sites with two evergreen and deciduous trees per site with permanent picnic benches. The staff is friendly and accommodates special requests. They do have free WiFi. There does not appear to be any long term "campers" and everything seems well maintained and neat. (800) 837-3604 We camped here in a Motorhome.
Nice park. Level, even though it is on gravel. Beautiful area and the park is right in the middle of it all. Staff and owner were very friendly. Would stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
The Lost Alaskan is easy to locate and get into in Alpine. The park is arranged very well with large pull thru sites in the center of the park. The staff is wonderful and very helpful. The laundry and rest rooms are very well taken care of and clean. The office has lots of information about activities, museums, and restaurants in the area. We will return again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We stayed there once with our 2 grand daughters and once with pets. There is a nice play ground, pool and splash pad. There is a doggier park. The area is very peaceful and quiet. Deer come right up to the park. Lots of birds. The park is very clean and kept up. The showers and bath are very nice and clean, We will definitely stay there again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
We stayed here for 3 nights and used Alpine as a base for traveling to Big Bend and other points of interest. This is one of the finest private campgrounds we've stayed at. It was very clean, the hosts were helpful and friendly, there was a nice dog park where our dogs could play unleashed. The sites are spacious and so is the space between rows. Easy to get your RV or camper parked. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This was a very nice park. Well laid out with generous sites, good dog walking area and close to town. The shower/restroom areas were possibly the nicest we've seen on our 4 month RV trip. The laundry was totally adequate and the whole park was obviously kept very clean and maintained. We camped here in a Motorhome.
The campground and facilities were clean, and the facilities were up-to-date. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The sites were level and large and will accomodate large rigs. We chose this campground as a base for a tour of the Big Bend National Park. This was a long trip of over 300 miles for one day. Fort Davis is only 24 miles away and well worth the trip. We would recommend this park. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Nice RV park for Big Rigs. It is well maintained. The only problem is some tree spacing close to the pads. The Staff is very friendly. I would certainly recommend this park for short term or long term use. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We stayed at this park recently and really liked it a lot. The sites are very level and there was plenty of room for most any kind of motorhome. The staff very friendly and helpful They have a fenced in area for dogs called Paw-Paw Park. It was clean and a large area for the pooch to romp around. Their laundry area was modern and very clean. It was quiet and peaceful here. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We've stayed at this park several times in the past few years and heard that it just recently changed ownership. We could definitely see a downward slide in appearance. The extra charge for wi-fi which is iffy at best and the increase in rates is not merited for what you get in exchange. We will not come back to this park again and don't recommend it. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
When in Alpine, this has always been our choice. Open desert, young trees, funky but cute picnic tables. WIFI is available, didn't need, we have broadband. Gravel thru-out. There are other RV parks, but this park is clean and quiet. We stayed in our 45' Coach. Will always return to this place. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is the best there is in Alpine. Lots to see in the area. Very nice staff and well maintained. All new, professionally built buildings, with tile everywhere. Everything cleaned daily. New washers and dryers. Workampers on back row in one area. Fenced dog park and clean. Lots of room, on level sites. Good water and power. All sites have full hook-ups, with 30 and 50 amps. We stayed here a month, left for a week, then back again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This park is on a large tract of land. All roads and sites were good gravel. Sites were long, wide, and level. Lots of trees in park but are small yet. City of Alpine about one mile south for all of your needs and good places to eat. Bathrooms and showers were spotless, very nice. Staff was nice and helpful at check in. Pool and playground equipment were new. Large cement pad to wash your RV equipment for a fee. Everything is so nice and new here. Pet park in front (Paw Paw Park). Only problem was the satellite WiFi system was too slow to be called high speed. We will return! We camped here in a Motorhome.
The only thing this park does not have is activites. Otherwise, a great place to spend a few days exploring the area. The bathhouse and showers were very clean, available 24/7. Sometimes we heard the train as it whistled its way through town, but no other noise. Wi-fi (Tengo) was not very fast, and Verizon service was on "Extended Network" analog, not Verizon Wireless digital. Lots of restaurants and antique shops, and flat terrain for bike riding. We visited Fort Davis National Monument, went looking for the Marfa "lights", and did a star party at the McDonald Observatory. We used this park as a stopover before and after visiting Big Bend. New park owners, effective March 2007. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This park is way overpriced for a gravel parking lot and WIFI for a fee. The minimal grassed sites are decent size but the brick and concrete picnic tables are oddly placed. The table for the site to our left was right up against where our front driver slide was. Not sure who would ever use them. The staff was very friendly but not enough reasons for us to ever stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Nice park, easy access. All pull thru sites. Great place to stay while attending the Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Alpine. This is our second stay here. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Very nice park, with excellent support facilities. Just north of town and has easy access. Might check out others in the area next time, we felt price for 8 hours was high, since only reason to be there was to get somewhere else. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Nice level and very long sites. The trees are young so they did not block satellite or make it difficult to manuever. They will have to be trimmed back as time goes by. The sites are dirt and gravel and this could prove to be a problem if they get a lot of rain. The staff is great and the town even has a movie theatre. The park is about 110 miles from Big Bend National Park and 25 miles from the Marfa lights. Not much else to do in the area. Major shoping is 150 miles away. We camped here in a 40' motor home with four sides. We would definitely stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This park is certainly the class of Alpine. Very well kept, friendly staff, and good power and water. Good level gravel sites, a few trees for shade. Cable is free but only gets 12 channels. Free WiFi, but it's very spotty. We were here during cold weather, but it looks like the new pool area is very nice. Convenient to lots of neat areas; Big Bend, Ft Davis, and the Marfa Mystery Lights. We were visited by a large buck and his harem each morning. Great views of the mountains. We spent a week and will stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Park is clean and neat. The nicest park on our trip. We stayed the week as there is much to see in the area. People are friendly - workers and campers. There is a charge for WIFI with "tengointernet". We would stay there again if in the area. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Nice park, we arrived the day after a rain and didn't find any mud unlike another post. Office staff is helpful and friendly. Water pressure is low, had to fill the fresh water tank and use our pump. Electrical power is good. WiFi is $4 a day, TL lists the WiFi as being free. We would stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
A very good park to use as a base to see the Big Bend/Davis Mountains area (though you will have to do some driving). Well maintained and clean. Friendly and helpful staff. Gravel and dirt, very little concrete, so I can see where the utility areas between the gravel pull-throughs could get muddy in the event of rain. However, rain is not a normal occurrence in the area. The "A" section where we stayed did not have picnic tables. WiFi service worked well. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We have camped at this park many many times and are sad to have to post a less than glowing review after our recent stay. The park has invested several thousand in a swimming pool, which is a nice addition but the money would have been much better spent on the roads and sites which are in bad shape. Gravel is about gone and it turns into a mud hole when wet and dust bowl when dry. The work campers seemed totally indifferent to us, and to the enforcement of the park rules (such as speeding, not driving through vacant sites, etc.). The park traffic flow has been altered since out last visit so that traffic now does not go past the work camper sites - nice move guys!! Worse yet, we paid $25 a night - up about $5. Sorry, this will absolutely be our last stay!! We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Very nice, quiet & clean campground. The staff is very polite, friendly & helpful. The pool & bathhouse are in the process of being completed & a recreation room is available. The campground is well situated & easy to get to. You do have to pay for wifi but it is reasonably priced & very dependable. We definitely will return. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Very good location close to town. Park is very dusty and the roads are not that well maintained. The speed bumps don't seem to help a lot. Way too many "work campers" wandering around. The "lawn mower guy" pelted my truck and RV with rocks both times I have stayed here!!! Picnic tables are brick and concrete and can't be moved to a convenient location on your site. They have an anoying habit of putting everyone close together even when they are almost empty. Park is over priced by about $5-6 for what they offer. However - in spite of the foregoing - pretty good park with full hook up, very nice bath and shower as well as laundry (AC in summer). I will stay again (but wrap my truck & RV in blankets to protect it from more stone chips). We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Interior roads are good, but gravel. All sites are pretty level, but not paved. There is good grass in the sites and the RVs are well spaced apart. We would stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This campground is in beautiful Alpine which is about 100 miles from the center of Big Bend National Park. It is 26 beautiful miles to Ft. Davis National Park which is very worthwhile, and from there take the 72 mile scenic route that is magnificent - and stop and see one of the world's best astronomy observatories along the way. Alpine has a great little main street and side streets with wonderful little restaurants, a couple of excellent book shops (with the New York Times and WSJ available daily!), a number of art galleries, a couple of bars with live music and a real little west Texas feel to it. There is a Big Bend Museum at the local Sul Ross University in town.
This RV park is a campground, not a destination with full facilities for entertainment. There is excellent wifi. Each site has 1-2 15-18' pine trees on it, most have picnic tables and some cactus here and there. Laundry is very clean. Mouintain views in every direction are beautiful. The sites are very long and car/RV washing is available at a special spot in the campground for a small charge (this is a semi-arid desert). Roads and sites are dirt and level and there is grass in all areas that are not roads or sites.
We came for a day and we are staying for at least a week - we had no idea this part of Texas had so many interesting things to see and do. We're going to follow 90 over to San Antonio - no additional mileage from I-10 and lots of things to see on this red road. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Level, long pull-thrus. Some sites need long sewer hose. Most sites did not have tables. They have a night sky viewing area for those clear dark West Texas nights. We stayed three times in '02 for a few days each time. We will go back. We camped here in a Motorhome.

A dust bowl. The roads have speed bumps and 5 mph is enforced, I was told. The reason must be to keep the dust down. Generally, the place is Big Rig Friendly...except when assigned a choice site with a view. We had to disconnect our toad to make the turn to exit. Either have a sewer hose longer than 18' or you will have to disconnect your toad to clear the access road. Nice long pull thru's but poorly planned. Be prepared for a $2.00 charge for most anything, however they were proud to say "No extra charge for pets". Cable is free but ours did not work. There are other choices that are just as dusty for less money. I would not recommend this park. We camped here in a camper.
This has become a permanent resident type rv park since our last visit. Some rigs are very delapidated and strewn with junk. There are better parks in Alpine. The only redeeming quality was the exceptionally clean bathhouse We camped here in a camper.
6 miles from east entrance of Big Bend National Park. Our group was there for 13 nights. Most nights there was live music at the museum. Most sites are pull throughs with side by side pedestals. We have stayed here for 6 years and meet many of the same people on return trips. Everyone if friendly and helpful. It's just a laid back desert environment. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Utilities worked just fine. Nan in the store is fantastic. Needs tv and internet to be more than a stopover place. Location is right at the entrance to Black Gap and 8 miles from Big Bend. Beats staying in the Bend campgrounds of RGV or Cottonwood with no utilities for $14. It is a very adequate stopover place with very friendly folks. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Great place to stay. Owner emailed me with information about groceries. No running down to the 7-11 here! 46 miles to the Marfa IGA. Park was clean and people were very friendly. There are campers that come here year after year. I loved the remoteness and the quiet. Gathering around the front porch at night was fun and something that I had not done since I was a kid. Yes, there are scorpions and snakes and other wildlife. If these things bother you stay home! This is the remote desert and they are a part of it. Yes, ants too. I will be coming back later this year to spend a couple of months. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
I don’t get how anyone could rate this park a 9. . This is a little store a long way from anywhere with RV spaces, some have full hook ups including 50 amp power. The spaces are narrow but long enough to fit big rigs (we camped there in a 37ft 5th wheel) The spaces are small enough that you share your picnic table with your next door neighbor. Don’t even think about using the park showers! There are ants all over the ground in and around the spaces. Having said all that, there are very few options in this area and it will do if you are visiting Big Bend NP. It’s right outside the entrance but sill 35 miles from the Park Headquarters. The hook ups worked and the water even tasted good. Be careful when you are hooking up to the water and sewer. The hookups are below ground, I had to chase a scorpion out of the water hook up box. If you plan to stay here, lower your expectations and you won’t be disappointed. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We had 5 rigs and a group of tent campers. Most of us stayed 6 nights. I don't understand the last post that questioned the campground location. Other posts made it clear that this RV Campground is not at Alpine, but 90 miles away. The post office for that part of the country is "Alpine". It is used by people who come here year after year and we have made friends with people from across the country. This is the best campground as far as meeting other RV'ers that we have visited. Our dog even has found a steady boyfriend here. This was our 5th year. Some people stop there for one night prior to trying to get into the RV Park at Rio Grande Village (the section with water and electricity). Many stay here after they see that RGV is an asphalt parking lot with electric pedestals behind the curb you back up to. We will return next year. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
I do not understand the 10 ratings on this park. Granted it seems there are no good campgrounds around Big Bend but this place was a gravel parking lot. There are only two 50 amp service sites and this side of the park (feet from the remote road) are very close together and difficult to get in or out of. The staff are very friendly but we would never stay here again. This park is not even near Alpine. Actually closer to Marathon. About 9 miles from the east entrance to Big Bend. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This park IS NOT in Alpine, it is just outside the entrance to Big Bend Nat'l Park. Can accomodate ANY size RV. This is REALLY remote, about 40 miles to the closest town (Marathon). They have their own small store and gas pumps. Also have a museum dedicated to Hallie Stillwell. Beautiful, stark scenery. Go to the end of the road and see La Linda, Mexico ghost town across the Rio Grande. Great place to get away from it all. Run by the Stillwell family. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, since it is so remote, but I loved it! Great place to start exploring Big Bend National Park. Horsebackers and river rafters welcome. Lots of local character and characters! We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We camped here from April 12th thru April 21st. It was hot and windy, but we had a wonderful time. When our toad died on us in the park, we called the office and W.T. Potter sent someone to tow us back to the park. They had a problem with the well blowing a fuse and worked hard to get the water pressure back up after the fuse was replaced. We sat on the porch every evening, visited and ate ice cream. They went out of their way to make sure we were happy considering that the temperature was up to 106 and most people left. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Not at Alpine, Texas but 90 miles southeast. About 9 miles from the Highway 385 entrance to Big Bend Nat'l Park. Nearest town is Marathon, 40 miles north. We have stayed there 3 times. This past stay was for 10 days. We were with a group of RV's and tent campers. They always had 35 to 40 RV's. This park has more space than the RV park in Big Bend. It is in a remote area and there is some hiking that can be done on the Stillwell Ranch. Black Gap Wildlife Mgmt. area is only a few miles south, with the road ending at La Linda, a former Rio Grande River crossing, 23 miles to the south. We use this campground while touring and hiking on the east side of Big Bend. theadamssfamily.com/CG/Stillwell%20Ranch.htm is a link with photos of the park. We find the staff to be friendly and they do have a store with supplies. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Gravel parking lot with hookups, small narrow sites. Owners were friendly. Have Hattie Stillwell Museum you can visit. Right outside Big Bend - convenient for early entry to get campsite there! We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
