Of all the park reviews I have written (not that many) this is the hardest to write. This is one of those parks that you will either love or hate. First the love part: The sites are remote; you can’t even see your neighbor’s site from your camp site. Each site has water and electricity. All sites are on or near the upper Nueces River watershed with swimming, old fashion rope swing (read home-made) and a zip line. Fire rings with fire wood and a barbeque pit are provided at each site. The RV park is very large (433 acres) with trails for bikes and ATV. If you want to get away from it all, this is the place for you! Now the hate part: The bathhouse was a little run down, and while I would not call it dirty, I would not call it clean either. I am sure this is temporary, but the city (Barksdale, TX) has signed a new contract with a garbage company that did not include commercial trash - so there was no trash pickup at the park. Even the local roadside picnic area had trash everywhere. The park did not have trash every where, in fact it was clean - but there was nowhere to deposit our trash. No sewer hook-up. The pricing seemed high to me. The site was $15.00 plus $8.00 per adult and $5.00 per child; for our family of four this added up to $41.00 / night. Pets are welcome with no extra fee. The proprietor was very friendly. It seems that business is about 60% off mainly due to the remote location and high gas/diesel prices. If you want to get away from “resort RV parks” with neighbors so close you can spit in their campsite, this is the place for you. The park is beautiful, quite, clean and on the upper Nueces River watershed - spring feed, very clear water. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
