This park is in Appomattox and only 12 miles away from Appomattox Court House Historic Site. The park is huge with over 20,000 acres of National Forest surrounding it and that is why you can’t get cell phone service at this park. It is a pretty park, but it is not big rig friendly. We camped here with a RV just 25 feet and we could fit in about half the sites, but many are not level and a big rig would have problems driving around some of the campground roads. We stopped for just one night and you did not need reservations midweek even if you wanted one of their water and electric sites. The manager of the park stopped to talk to us as he was checking on the campers later in the evening and told us that they are quite busy on weekends and that they are developing a big rig friendly campground just up the road from this one. The new park will only have about 10 -20 campsites for big rigs with 3 way hookups and a new bathhouse. He was very friendly and informative. There are Interpretive Events happening every Sat night in this park and on Memorial Weekend they have a big campfire with stories on Friday night, canoe tour and owl call on Sat where they go out in the canoes and call to the owls at night to fly over, and finally on Sunday night a Civil War slide show plus guided hikes and educational programs throughout the weekend. The bathrooms are old but very clean and it was peaceful. There are hiking trails right from the campground down to the lake and around the lake which are very nice. The lake is huge over 150 acres. Just down the road (.1) there is a swimming beach, boat dock, playground and off shore fishing. Gasoline power boats are not allowed on the lake. The tricky part is getting into the campground. We saw signs but the drive in is about 5 miles going up and going down There are trails for horses as well as bike trails and during the weekends and in the summer there are historical and educational programs. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Great park. Beautiful lake with great swimming. Numerous Life Guards keep rules enforced. Rangers patrol the park regularly, and do a nightly walk around to ensure that quiet is maintained. Well off the beaten path, so bring what you need! Would have given it a 10 except for the condition of the bathrooms. They were not disgusting, and were not clean by any means. One toilet in mens' room was clogged. I also took off for the unlevel sites, though we were prepared with "Lynnx Levelers", and it took 6 on one side. We loved the park and will go back, just hope bathrooms are in better shape. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This is our Favorite state park. It has a great lake swimming beach with life guards and a kids swimming area. Hiking trails are well kept and the rangers are very nice. Campground is small at 30 sites. The sites are not very level, it took me 4" to get level. All sites are paved and clean. All things considered we like small quaint parks that arent crowded. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
I go there every year. 2007 I will return in August for 4 nights, bringing 10 other rigs, for a group get together. We all enjoy it here. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Beautiful park and well-kept. No swimming pool but there is a swimming beach. Our only problem was the sites were not level and that was a shame as they were paved and large. A major concern was the entrance road which was 7 miles of narrow road. I have no idea what would have happened had we met another TT entering the park. Would return here anytime if the road had been wider. We camped here in a 30' TT. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Small campground with only a handful of sites big enough for our 30 ft class A and many rather sloped but the park is very neat and pretty. Close to Appomattox Courthouse National Historic Park. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We really enjoyed this park. It is quiet and clean with only a short walk to the beach area. The swimming area has a snack bar, playground, bath house, pavilion and canoe rentals. You can also fish from the bank or small dock area. Our two small kids liked it as well. We are looking forward to going back. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Relatively small, very nice. Good separation of campsites -- we find that typical of Virginia State Parks and prefer that to what seems to be, from our admittedly limited camping experience, a tendancy for private CGs to cram as many sites as possible into their acreage. Clean bathhouses, hot water, helpful staff, secure, lake nearby. The only reason we didn't rate it a 10: Several sites are less than level. We had to hunt around a little to find one that was level and the right size for a small popup. We camped here in a Tent Trailer.
Nice park with lake activities including swimming, boat rental and launch (no gas motors), great fishing from bank, well groomed hiking trails and clean picinic areas. Sites are paved and are semi level. Park is well guarded and supervised. Great family vacation spot with Appomattox Battle Fields within 20 minute drive. We camped here in a camper.
Nice little country campground. Not too much to do at campground, few planned activities. Nice small pool and fun swimming lake. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Park was very nice. Sites were fairly level and there was shade available at most every camp site. The road into the park was fairly rough with lots of potholes. Very clean and quiet, even with quite a few seasonal campers. Lots of things for the kids to do including the lake, newly built pool, basketball and playground. The only negative thing about this park is the electrical connection. If you go, be sure to have a tester. Our site and several nearby only had 108 volts during the middle of the day. The voltage came up at night to 120, but worried us during the day. The kids really loved it though, so we will probably return. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This campground was very clean, but I would only return in warm weather and only if I am in the area. We just so happened to go here during this weird cold blast around Easter. The kids were bored because the recreation room was being built, and it was too cold to ride bikes or play in the playground. We didn't see any miniature golf as the website promotes, but maybe we just missed it. The bathhouses were very clean. The wi-fi is free, but only at the store and only when someone is in the office, which in April is not a set time. Our site had no phone hook up. I failed to ask when I called if the wi-fi worked at the sites or I would not have stayed here because we needed internet access. Oh yeah, if it is your first time here make sure you go towards the lake to the store to register. The little booth fooled us and some other first timers. The road to the campground has lots of potholes. The sites are mostly level and not too close. The lake is at the bottom of a hill, so most sites can't even see it. Leave your bikes at home because the downslope grade of the campground is not worth trying to ride. I can't give it a 10 like others because my experience was not as good, but maybe in the summer time it could be better. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
We have camped at many campgrounds through the years but have yet found one that was as clean as this one. While we were there, we noticed that they were putting in a new 22 X 44 swimming pool and building a brand new recreation room. Also, the owners and staff were very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this one and will be returning. We camped here in a Tent.

I was just there with my good sam group we had 12 rigs there --it was a wonderful weekend and we all enjoyed it there. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Nice park. We spent a weekend there and the kids had a blast. Lake to swim and fish. Had free hot dogs and smores on Friday night. Played candy bar Bingo on Saturday night. The facilities are a little old, but the staff was great and everything worked. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Overall a pretty decent park. The saving grace of this place is the "work campers," older folks that are retired, working at the campground. They were very friendly, helpful, and seemed to go the extra mile to help out guests. Also liked that they had a night watchman. Employees picked up trash at your sight each morning. I've never seen that before! Campground is neat and clean. Lots of activities for children. The only drawback was the site was not very level. I would've been okay in a trailer with a tongue jack, but in a motorhome it was a little more difficult. I'd camp here again if in the area. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This campground is an older campground. It has been around for years and it has a lot of repeat business. It is open to day guests because of it's lake. The lake is open to anyone who pays the entrance fees. Not a bad crowd just a large crowd when compared to the campground guests. The bathrooms and bathhouses were always clean and in great shape. The store was a little spartan but it worked. It had a nice little Ice Cream Shop, if you could get waited on. Our sites were the 50amp sites as this was a last minute trip. They were not too level from front to back, but we were told that on the phone. The sites on the other side of the campground were in much better shape as far as shade and levelness. Overall not a bad campground but if I could not find any other place to camp I would return. The staff was extra friendly. Just not my type of campground. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
The campground was very clean and neat. The employees were very kind and helpful. Stayed here in 2002. I was not as happy then because of the noise from the seasonal campers. Looks like new management took care of that. Not as many seasonal
campers this time. The bathrooms looked great. Nice clean lake to take a swim. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a great family campground. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Most sites are level and shady. The General Store is small, but adequate and it has a food grill. They have lots of things for kids to do. There is a train ride, paddle boats and a real nice lake for swimming with life guards on duty. The showers and restrooms were very clean and the trash was picked up every morning. This is by far one of the nicest family campgrounds that we have stayed at. When it was time to leave, our grandkids wanted to move here. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Bath houses are disgusting. Laundry facilities are pathetic "barely there". Management
could care less about the seasonal campers; been trying to run them "out of dodge". To have a lease as a seasonal means nothing. They will at any time, violate your rights as an American citizen. As a sesaonal camper with a lease; don't think for a minute that what is your's is your's... they will enter your camper and tow your camper away if they feel like it. The management is out of control and must be stopped. Don't waste your time... the camping experience is not very family oriented. There are too many transients there. Go to another campground. A modern day campground this is not: they live by the motto "we are grand-fathered and don't have to meet current campground standards!" Police people run this place and have no respect for the rights of everyday people. Not much of a family atmosphere left. Camp at your own risk! We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

We visited this campground in May of 2003 and thought it was a great family oriented
place. They have nice sites with a small lake to swim and very clean. The Seasonal campsights were well taken care of and the people friendly. They had nice decks,
flower beds, and maintained campers. We decided to stop there overnight on the way back from Blue ridge in Late September and it looks like a war zone, the
camp is dirty, the Seasonal campers are all pulling out. I was told there was a large dissagreement between the owners and the Seasonal campers. I would not recomend it, there is some serious friction. We decided not to stay. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

The road going to the campground is like a mine field . Also you can't swim unless your a
alligator. The restroom's are so nasty I would rather go in the woods. The washer & dryer don't work well at all. I would not recommand this place to anybody
that camps. I would rather camp at a truck stop. This is one camping family that will never camp here again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Next time you visit this place, just ask them one question: Why did they have at least 15 SEASONAL campers pull out at the end of this season? Some of these people have been there for 20-plus years. When I see a change of such size in one year makes me wonder what is wrong with this picture. POOR MANAGEMENT and LACK OF RESPECT for their campers. There is nothing for kids to do after 6 o'clock. There are no activities for the family on the weekend except swimming. Things have taken a drastic turn for the worse in the last 2 years I have visited here. I would not recommend this place for a family outing. If you want somewhere to sleep and play dead, then this is for you. Also, labeling your seasonals as "transiants" is not a good thing either. These are the people that gaurantee your start up money for next year. Campers beware!! If you want a place with an attitude, this place is for you. If you want a family atmosphere, find somewhere else. I have dealt with this place for at least 7 years myself. The last 2 have been something to recon with. I am one of those people moving on. I am one of the so called Transiants pullin my camper back home. You see, I do not need the disrespect and attitude. There is something else out there bigger and better for my family. Bottom Line: It's a dump, and nasty workers and nasty construction worker tenants, some need their mouths washed out! We camped here in a camper.
This park rates 10 in friendliness, cleanliness, vehicle maneuverability, and space in and between campsites. The rating is lowered because of a lack of amenities (no store, bathroom, playground, etc,) and an almost useless Wi-Fi. This is one of the best laid-out campgrounds we’ve seen. Easy access from highway and easy to enter and exit campsites. No obstacles such as trees and sign posts to maneuver around. It’s an open field with wide paved driving lanes, paved parking sites with plenty of space for toads or tow vehicles, and plenty of space between sites. Lamp posts at each site for light after dark. Front row has cable TV hookups. Some highway truck noise, but for us it was tolerable. We were parked close to the office and the Wi-Fi was almost always unusable. When available, the signal strength and speed varied widely and frequently and the connection frequently broke. We stayed 9 nights and would definitely come again. It’s a central location from which to visit historic and scenic sights, although some are about an hour’s drive away (Appomattox Court House National Historic Park [10-minute drive], Patrick Henry’s home, Thomas Jefferson’s second home [Poplar Forest], Natural Bridge, Peaks of Otter, etc.). We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Good place to stay if you are visiting the Appomattox Civil War site, but other than that, it is only suitable for an overnight stay. Price is right, but there are absolutely no amenities. In addition, they advertise that they have Wi-Fi service, but even though it is there, the bandwidth is so low that you cannot connect to the internet at all. If you really have to get on the internet, the visitor center in town has a free Wi-Fi connection that you can use inside or out in the parking lot. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This campground is in an open field with the camp sites well away from the mobile homes. The roads and sites are paved and level. It is next to the Appomattox Courthouse historic military park. We were not bothered by the road noise but it is present. It is a good 1 or 2 day place to stay while visiting the tourist areas. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This campground is a great no frills overnight stopping place. There are no restrooms, but the park is clean and has reasonable rates. $22/night with an additional $2/night discount for Good Sam members. Passport America members can stay for one night at a rate of $11/night and then must pay full rate for additional nights. Cable TV is available on the first row of sites and is $2/night extra. I would stay here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Good over night park. Rate is a Passport America rate. Only 1 mile from Appomattox Court House Civil War site. Long pull-thru with adequate space between sites. Very clean. Our site was very level. No rest rooms or showers. No WiFi. Very clean and neat with east access from highway. Close to town and services. A little highway noise but not bad. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We full-time. Our order of importance is: internet satellite ability; site large enough for 40' rig & toad; cellphone coverage. This place met them all. There is a nice mobile home park at the back of the property. The owner is a former motorhomer who had to give it up because of age, but still has the gleam in his eye. Nice people. There are no amenities - no swimming, no restroom, no clubhouse, no extended office hours, no gift shop, etc. The highway traffic noise is noticeable, but the location and open space made up for it. Apparently the Lynchburg area doesn't believe in RV parks! We've stayed at nearby Paradise Lake park back in 2000 - 2002 and had no problems (the reviews aren't great in here. We drove thru it just to see & it looked okay. We'd stay again, but they have too many trees. ) But these are the only parks within visiting distance to Lynchburg that we could find. We camped here in a Motorhome.
I was hesitant about this park prior to arriving because normally an RV park located in a mobile home park usually leaves something to be desired, however this is the exception, it is 1 mile from the Appomattox Court House National Park entrance, the RV sites are located away from the mobile home sites (which are very neat, well laid out, paved streed, street lights, etc) the RV sites are FHU, plenty of space, are very neat and the owners are really good to work with, they keep a personal hands on approach to everything, the owner gives you his cell phone number in case you need
any help. We spent 3 days here in a 5th wheel in 2003, (In overflow because the 10 regular sites were full) Overflow had FHU, but located away from the other sites. No rest rooms or showers, Would come back We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
