The campground has a fairly large number of apparently permanent residents. Most of the choice shaded sites appeared to be occupied by the permanent residents as evidenced by storage sheds, patios, porches and permanently mounted satellite antennae. Sites for transients were roomy drive-through asphalt pads, all appeared to be limited to electric and water only in an open grassy field. The roads to sites, although mostly one lane wide, were adequate to maneuver large rigs. The campground was quiet with stable 30/50 amp electric and water hook-ups. The sites were well away from the highway and located behind a large area dedicated to RV storage. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This is an older campground, and there are a lot of permanent campers here which makes some areas look really trashy. The camping area sits back a long way from the office and entry area. The road leading to the camping area is only wide enough for one car and exit areas off of the sites are not wide enough to pull out without driving through the grass/mud. I do not consider this facility to be "big rig friendly" based on this. Our site was very muddy, and there is very poor drainage so a lot of standing water around the rigs. They advertise pony rides, but that must only be a summer thing as they weren't available when we were there. If you are thinking of staying there, check out the site ahead of time as there are no refunds if you don't like your site. We would not stay there again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

The restrooms were clean but there were no towels or air dryer. The shower had the same black hair in it every day I used it, so apparently it had been overlooked during cleaning. Most of the sites are filled with "permanent" residents, and many are cluttered and not well kept, some with very old run down trailers. The person who checked us in was friendly. The park is located at a farm where riding lessons and events are held and could be great entertainment for kids. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

The campground itself is nice. It has stables and you can do pony rides for your kids. They have chickens, and you can buy fresh brown eggs for breakfast. There are volleyball courts and a small putt-putt golf course. There are bicycle, golf cart and canoe / rowboat rentals. Prices seemed good. They are right across from a canal that is part of the Intracoastal: so you can paddle for a ways if you wish. We brought our tent up, and just used a tent spot. The spots were nice enough. However the bathrooms were old and in need of serious cleaning. The showers had plenty of hot water, but just didn't seem "nice". Not clean. I used the showers, just would prefer something cleaner. Quite time is 10:00PM. There was a large group two tent sites behind our site. There were a lot of people and vehicles: they did not stick to the limit of people or cars. The place has a big sign saying they are a family-oriented campground, and beer and pot parties are not allowed. There was a lot of glass bottle clinking going on. Singing until around midnight. Loud talk with a lot of bad language thrown in, lasted until a quarter-to-one in the morning. A very loud start to an off-color, racist joke, that thankfully one of the group members put a stop to. The security truck went around a little past 10PM. I did not see him back after that at all. Just one round. I complained when checking out, and found other campers had complained as well. The checkout person said we should call security when that is going on. As an aside, I did consider calling security and wandered by their camper a little past midnight, but felt it unfair to call or knock on a door that late. So: I'm not entirely sure we would go back again. I know my youngest son would enjoy the putt-putt and horses and volleyball (we'd snag a sand court and play badminton). He would not go anywhere near the restrooms or the showers while we were there. I would not want to have to deal with noisy campers, inappropriate language, off-color jokes or beer parties. And I feel security should make more than one round and should go by all the camping spots (he did not drive by that section). I think I'd give this one a miss next time. They certainly try to be a family campground, and if it was a little cleaner I'd try again and just call if things seemed out of hand. I know my youngest son would love it, I just don't want to have to deal with noisy campers and off-color language at a quarter to one. We camped here in a Tent.

This Campground is a bit scary. They have a lot of permanent campers and they stare at you if you happen to walk past. We stayed on the other side of camp on and off for two weeks. It was okay for a bit but we most likely will not go back. Too many creepy people. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

The camp-ground has improved greatly. They have added about 15 50 amp sites. There are supposed to be some sites with sewer. I have never been able to find them. Personally, I think they count the ones hooked up to the permanent peoples trailers. They have cleaned up a lot since my last stay. Mowed weekly during the summer. Lot of tent camping which can get a little loud on weekends. Some really long, long term RV here. There are a lot of internal activities during the summer. They have a permanent chapel here with a resident pastor. I've recommended this place to several people. Some did not like it because of the people running the office. And, there are a couple there that can really ruin a vacation. The facilities include a swimming pool, pavilion, camp-store , pony rides, bicycle and canoe rentals. It is right across from the Dismal Swamp Canal. I've been here long term and have enjoyed this stay. Be prepared to pay for the honey wagon's visit. I prepay for weekly service. There is shopping and a grocery store within 1.5 miles. It is farm country, but building up fast. It is not a bad place for a long term stay. Remember, this is not Cherry Hill. Chesapeake Campground is a good location for exploring the south side of Hampton Roads, but that's about it. The bathrooms are old but clean. My wife said while using the bathroom a frog hopped out of the side of the wall and across her feet, but other than that she had no complaints. The campground has a lot of permanent campers who live there year-round, making it feel like it's more of a trailer park vs a campground. If you're looking for scenery I wouldn't go there, but as a base it's o.k. We camped here in a Tent Trailer.

While some sites have full hook up, those seem to be occupied by full time residents or seasonal users. The campground does provide honey wagon service for a small additional fee. There are both full sun and wooded sites. There is also a lovely wooded area just for tents. Many of the sites are pull through and some are back in. There is a riding stable on grounds as well as a nice pool, a small exercise room, canoe and bike rentals and a small store. The staff is very friendly. We stay there when we go to visit our kids. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

This park is a great deal. The rates are low, the staff and campers were friendly. Let me just say that I don't normally have a problem reading maps or following directions but for some reason I had a hard time finding this place. I kept calling and getting lost but they walked me through it turn by turn over the phone. Very helpful. The sites are shady which was great with temps in the high 80's but it was open, high tree canopies so it wasn't real private but felt safe. There was also a ranger parked there 24 hours which is great security. There are no trains or airplane noises here thank God! and it's convenient access to the cities although it's a bit off the beaten path, it's a campground so that's to be expected. Note to self, I was in site 45 which was close to the bathrooms. Bugs were not a problem and would have liked to rent a boat but was not able to stay long enough. Would definitely return if going to the area again. I bring my own restroom so can't comment on the facilities. We camped here in a Truck Camper.

Nice family campground and playground. BIG shaded sites. Water is communal. Nice helpful staff. That being said, the bath houses need some work, as this is a city run campground, but they could be at least cleaned more than once a day if it is busy, and it was this weekend. Make sure you take TP, you might need it! Laundry room sink was stopped up and never addressed. Quiet time was not enforced, as the Ranger just drove around with his windows up, and then you never saw him after 11 pm. Party Central. Dogs were everywhere and were tied to trees and even in the bath houses! We probably won't be back. We camped here in a Tent.

Beautiful park with lots of trails, a lake/river with canoe rentals, fishing. Had a great time while camped there and the park rangers were very helpful and knew a lot about the park. We camped here in a Tent.

We camped here with 4 other families. Although there is no pool there is plenty of hiking trails, Putt Putt Golf, River and Pond access for canoeing and fishing and paddle boats...So there is plenty of things to do for the youngsters. With that said the security of the facility is somewhat in question since when we left to go out sightseeing on both Saturday and Sunday Morning we saw inmates from the womens correctional center up the road out picking up trash and mowing and doing landscape. Not really the caliber of people I want hanging around with my kids. The sites are large and shaded and even though out in the sun the temperature was in the 90's it felt comfortable around our campsite. Do not forget the bug spray if you come here though and make sure you check your family and pets for tics after visiting this facility. Would return if I want in a group since with the 28 people we went with there are safety in numbers and the kids entertained themselves with they're friends. One thing to note this is a city owned and run campground and no alcohol is allowed in this facility. We camped here in a Tent Trailer.
