We have been coming to this park for a number of years and always enjoy our trip. On-line reservations were easy and check-in went well. We camped in Loop G and had no issues getting into our site. The men shower in Loop G was not cleaned and the rubber shower mat had not been cleaned under in ages. The shower head was broken and not usable. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Very nice campground near the Chesapeake Bay. If coming in a motorhome, recommend asking the ranger to be able to look at all three campground areas (D, G, and H) before committing to an area. This way, you are more likely to get a good level site. Saw many 30' and 50' sites occupied by pop-ups, tents, or vehicles; the park does not require that you have the appropriate RV for the large sites. Area good for biking and the beach is close by and very nice. Definitely will return next year. We camped here in a Motorhome.

The location gets a 10. We parked in loop G and were just a short walk to the beach. For a couple of Canadians, being able to walk in the sun on the beach in November was glorious. Our site was comfortable for our 30 foot rig, basically sand but plenty firm. The picnic table and fire ring available were in good condition. While there were sites that would handle much larger rigs, the access to them could be prohibitive because of the width of the roads, some tree issues overhead and to the sides of the road. Electric and water were fine, showers were clean and though we didn't need them, having sinks outside to wash dishes was a nice touch. The reservation system and some of the personnel need a bit of work. We reserved on the phone, but the lady couldn't tell us what time the on site office closed. She also couldn't assign a site. We got here at about 7pm due to extensive traffic and there was nothing and nobody available to tell us where to park. However, there were maps available. Because of the tight appearance of the roads, we walked through a couple of loops until we found a site that would accept our rig and we hooked up and parked. The next day we went to the entry station, which was again unmanned, so we went into town for a few hours. We got back and went to the welcome center, and were directed finally to the park office where a fairly surly young man made the assumption that we were trying to get a freebie. I told him that we had already paid via credit card over the phone and after he confirmed it he admonished me for not coming to the office sooner and that not registering gave the rangers a lot of extra work (!!!) I won't judge the park based on one individual though, and although it would have been been nice to have had an assigned space when we made and paid for our reservation, the stay itself was very pleasant and we would return. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Historic area, close to beach, but actually kind of disappointing for the amenities and site maintenance. We had a decent, level site, but we were there off-season, mid-week, and had our pick. So many sites were very narrow and terribly off-level (and deep sand). Visitor center was nice; boardwalk crossing over the dunes to beach was also nice. Staying off-season without crowds and bugs--the thing to do. But pricey for what was offered. We camped here in a Motorhome.

I was really disappointed in the campground, we had our shitzu with us, we arrived at dark and as soon as she stepped out of the camper she was covered in little prickly things that are attached to a weed that is in growth all over the park, in a matter of a few minutes she had them in the pads of all of her feet, inside her mouth, etc, I talked to other campers and they had experienced the same thing. There was a terrible odor around the restroom. The beach was beautiful, sorry we didn't have a better experience. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Most sites are very large, well spaced with trees or bushes between. At check-in you are assigned a Loop and site color-code to fit your size rig. You can drive around your assigned Loop and select the campsite you prefer. To me this is a poor reservation system, if you arrive late there may not be a site that you can fit into (that is for us with larger rigs). If we go again our reservation will start on a Monday, that way more sites will be open. We stayed in Loop G, near the beach and away from the road. There is a bike trail, and hiking trails across the road. WiFi is available near the Park Headquarters, strong signal and fast server. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This is a lovely park with a short walk to beach. Some sites are closer to the beach but none are really too far away. As with all Virginia State Parks you have a site but it's not specific. When we arrived they gave us one of two loops to choose from D or G, we picked D and after riding through both loops we didn't find any of our colored sites open so we drove over to H where we found a site and then went back and told them where we were. Our site was shaded and a good size, a lot of the sites are not defined by any borders. The showers were unisex individual showers and not the cleanest but they were also heavily used and often had to wait. This is an area that has so much to do in and a weekend just isn't enough time. We will return. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

There 2 highlights that drove us to this park, price and location. Excellent rates and location compared to others in the area. We stayed in an overflow site in loop H with no hook ups. Nice level grassy and sandy site, no shade but as close as you can get to the well stocked camp store, marginal bath house, restrooms and beach area. Ran generator 24hr/day with no complaints from anyone, although we do have an onboard unit which is pretty quiet. Check in was a challenge; the staff is not helpful with providing directions and/or suggestions. We had to ask several times to get a better understanding of directions and where to navigate throughout the tight and narrow park roads. I strongly suggest unhooking your dinghy before entering. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This is a large campground with direct beach access. Sites are very large, well spaced with landscaping between. At check-in you are assigned a Loop and site color-code to fit your size rig. You can drive around your assigned Loop and select the campsite you prefer. Interior Loops A, B, E offer the most shade, but are farthest from the beach. Exterior Loops C, D, G are closest to the beach, have RV parking in full sun, and typically have a shaded picnic/tent area. Some sites in Loop H back up to the busy Shore Drive. Each loop has a bathhouse and dumpster. There are 4 beach access boardwalks. The beach at First Landing is fabulous! It’s long, not crowded, has warm Bay water with very gentle waves. You can wade out quite far. This beach has no rules, no lifeguard, and is dog-friendly. A huge camp/souvenir store and laundry is at the entrance. Movies are shown at the amphitheater nightly. Campground has no street lighting, and is dark and quiet at night. If you stroll the beach at night, be sure to note where the boardwalks are as it's hard to find your way back in the dark! Across the road is the Nature Area with several hiking trails. Park is well patrolled and campers are friendly. This is a wonderful beach vacation spot! We camped here in a Motorhome.

This is one of those CGs that has so much to do, you could stay for a week and not leave the CG. Kids have loads to do. Nice, level (but narrow sites unless you are in the deluxe sites). Proof of the freedom of our nation jet noise can be bothersome to some but I LOVED it!! Free parking near the beach for guests. Overall I rated it a 10 because it deserved it. We camped here in a Motorhome.

For location, rest rooms and beach it gets a 10. But for a park that says it is big rig friendly and has 50 foot sites, it gets a 3. So I averaged it. If you are over 40 feet and around 13 feet tall you will have to be very careful and selective. The level areas on some sites are short so your long wheel base will not stay on the level area. Some 50 foot sites need tree trimmed so you can get in, or get your slides out. Park and pick your site and section with an eye for trees and soft sand. Also, when entering stay on the drivers side of the road to the gate shack, or you will hit the over hanging trees. It is quiet and if you are in a site that allows you to see the beach and boats at night, it is very pretty and if you have a smaller rig it is great. A 43 foot, full wall slide requires you be choosey and dodge trees. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Cost $35 plus with water and electric. This campground used to be called Seashore State Park, but in the 1990’s the name was changed to First Landing State Park because this is where the British landed before they started the Jamestown settlement. The park was created by the CCC and is located on the bay. They have sites for all size campers but on dirt and grass with two way hookups. The beach is close and some sites do have a view. The state really needs to put some money into this park especially fixing up the sites. You can boat, bike, swim, attend ranger talks and walks, and hike on a number of trails. There are over 19 miles of trails and some are for hiking, biking and exercising with special equipment put along the trails. There is a visitor center. I would strongly urge one to get reservations here because it was packed when we were there. You can not request a specific site only site size, so when you arrive it is first come first serve even with reservations. There is a lot to do around this area with Virginia Beach, Norfolk and Newport News all in the area. Interesting park! We camped here in a Motorhome.

Very nice CG stretched along mouth of Chesapeake Bay. Variety of sites: on the dunes or in the woods. Campground roads are narrow and not well pruned back in places. Has multiple boardwalks over the dunes to the huge beach. Bathhouses are not fancy but quite functional. Has a good camp store. Free WiFi (at camp store). Has a good laundry. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

We are locals to Virginia Beach, so this weekend visit was two-fold: (1) I wouldn't be caught dead here during high tourist season and (2) we just got our new Bullet, so this was our "shakedown" cruise. Stayed in "H", like the previous campers and with good reason...Nor'easter are nothing more than winter hurricanes. The one we had here in Nov. '09 has effectively shut off 80% of the available sites (A,B,C,D,E &G). If you have camped here in years past, please keep this in mind. There are only a few sites that will accommodate large rigs and its first come, first serve. We sneaked a peek at "F", hoping that maybe it would be ready soon. Those sites will be on the Bay side as well. And while things were still closed up at the gatehouse, the camp store is now open, still run by the same wonderful people. If you do camp here, please do one cool thing: take two bags to the beach. One to fill with shells and one to fill with trash. The storms have hit us pretty hard, but if we can all fill just one bag, First Landing will continue to be the natural beauty it has always been. Have a great summer! Great location right on the dunes. Some spots have tree cover but we chose beachfront. There is road noise but otherwise this is an ideal park. Great running/biking trails. Showers, which are free, include steaming hot water and there are sinks for cleaning dishes and such. Currently the eastern half of the park is flooded so only the H campsites, located to the west of the park office on the map, are open. We stayed three nights in site 15H and found it private and lovely. We camped here in a Tent Trailer.

This was a treasure. We got a spot in the open (hot), but with an outstanding view of the dunes and the bay. It was a short walk to a beautiful stretch of beach that was always empty and clean. We would do this one again, even though it was more primitive than we normally like. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

This park was a surprise, not at all what I had expected. The sites are large and remote. The sites for larger RV's are isolated so you feel that you are alone in the park. Our site was were along the edge of the ocean but not on the ocean. You have to take a walkway to get over the dunes to get to the beach. This is a very different kind of park, one that is worth seeing at least once. Very nice. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice shady site, has great large sites, spacious, and away from other neighbors. Some sites are close and within walking distance to beach. Ours was near a bathhouse. Has a nice nature center. Fun campground in that is is directly connected to the beach. Some sites were pretty small, and not many with electric. Well maintained however. More shower/restroom facilities are need as they are few and far between. Some upgrades are needed to the some of the older shower houses as well as sewer gas smell is strong. Additional beach access would also be beneficial. You don't get to choose your site ahead of time here, but you do so when you check in. We ended up with a great site, but there were plenty of sites I would not have been happy with. Is a great campground overall! We camped here in a Tent Trailer.

We could not get reservations on-line for Friday or Saturday so we made plans for arrival on Monday and departing on Friday morning. Upon arrival at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, there was no one staffing the front gate. We noted that 1/2 of the park was closed as we drove through the open sections looking for a sight. We have a 32 foot trailer and only found 2 sights available. We stopped by the front gate house on Tuesday and again on Wednesday and never found it open. It must be to early in the season. The rate of $30 plus tax was about $10 too high for the off season. We still love to see the bay and spend time in the area. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

After having a difficult time with the on-line reservation system, we managed to get one. Full prepayment was required, two months before arrival. When we arrived at the campground, we found out what the problem was: over half the campground was closed off (early season? budget issues?). There were only 4 or 5 sites open for 35-50 foot RVs, and you have to drive around and pick one after arriving. The park is divided up by length of sites, and a reservation for one size does not translate to a different size site. We were lucky to get site G6, the best in the park with a view of Chesapeake Bay and the bridge-tunnel. Most sites were not level. This park is much better suited to tent and pop-up campers and there were plenty of them over a hot weekend. Note that each pet (dog, cat, whatever) is $5 more per night. We didn't use the bathrooms or showers, so no report on them. You can't beat the location for visiting in Virginia Beach, so we would stay again if the need arose. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This was a tough park to come up with a rating for. It is an older park and was designed for small trailers and tents. There are limited sites for larger units, and the access to some of those sites is difficult due to road design, trees and limbs. I also would not want to try and get into the park after dark for a first time stay....very tight roads. Registration does not allow you to pre-select your site...so there is no telling what you will get when you arrive...and you have to take the tour through the narrow roads to find an open site. We stayed off season, arriving on a weekend, and there were no registration people on duty all weekend...a real mess when, after we got setup on our site, we were eventually told that we would have to move at the end of the week as they were closing that loop....not real people friendly, although they did right by us after some discussion. Having said all that, we were on site G-6 and had to work to get a 32' fifth wheel into it, but once into it, it was a great site...very large, very private and a view of the Chesapeake out the back window. Good water and 50 amp service. Bath houses are newer and nice....we wouldn't go back, but if you were tenting or in a smaller rig, this might be a good spot for you. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

This is an old campground carved out of the dunes many years ago. The buildings and hookups however are modern and worked great. There are so many sites you can surely find what you're looking for. We made a reservation online so our check in was less than 5 minutes. It's very close to the Edgar Cayce center and about 10 minutes from the Boardwalk. We'd certainly stay here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Back camping at our favorite local campground. Nice big site at B28 - the bath house was new and very nice. As always the beach was great with our site being near the dune crossover. The checkin process was VERY LONG this time, the staff did not seem very together or organized. It was an annoying way to start, but once we got through that, everything was great. We'll be back. Sites were good size, easy to setup, and divided by trees/shrubbery for privacy. Easy access to the Chesapeake Bay beach area - just over the dunes. We were here in mid-April and the water was actually warm enough to go in! The bathrooms were clean - though we didn't use them much so can't speak for the showers, etc. Reserved online so quick check-in, easy access dump station, nice camp host. Nice, quiet, family park. This is the best camping deal in Virginia Beach. If you are beach lovers this is the perfect spot for you. Many sites within short walk over the dunes to the beach. Some with Bay/Ocean views. Clear view of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. Next to the military base. There is always something to keep your attention there. Be sure to bring binoculars to watch the military maneuvers as well as the many different boats in and out of the bay. This beach is clean and pet friendly. Lots of shade for tenters. Access is tight for RVs. Some of the restrooms are updated, However, even the older restrooms are cleaned multiple times a day. Park rangers patrol often. Making for a safe, fun destination. I would highly recommend this campground. Best deal on the beach! We camped here in a Motorhome.

One of the best kept secrets in Virginia Beach! HUGE campsites. Bath houses are cleaned daily and while we were there, checked several times a day. Park Rangers made regular patrols. Short hike over the dunes to the beach. Shower at the end of the dune crossover to wash off the sand. One play ground, so you have to drive over there. Camp store has everything you could need. Lots of interpretive programs and even had a nightly family movie. We'll be back! We camped here in a Tent.

This park was nice. It looks to be an older state park but still well maintained. The roads are paved but the sites are just sand/dirt (ours was level). Daily activities scheduled. Store was well stocked and restrooms in that area were newer. There’s a trail center across the street and a museum located near the beach. Sites near the dunes didn’t look to be shaded, sites on back sides of loops were shaded but near a busy road. Not sure if we’d stay here again, as we all missed having a pool, but that's nothing against the campground itself. We camped here in a Tent Trailer.

First Landing State Park is a very nice place to stay, if you are not looking for luxury. We had a 37' Fifth Wheel and could make it around all the roads, but they are tight....and sand only. The sites themselves vary widely. Some are level, some are not. Just a short walk (1 minute) over the dune lands you at the Chesapeake Bay waterfront. It's very beautiful and not too crowded, as the beach is for the park only. The water stays shallow (about 2' deep) up to 100' or so from shore. There are lots of crabs and stuff running around. We went in August, so it was Jelly Fish time, and we even saw one ray. It's certainly worth the money, and we will be going back again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a great park on the chesapeake bay. Sites are sandy and are behind the dunes so you cant see the ocean but can walk right over the dunes on the walkways. The showers were a bit rundown and needed updating. Beware of soft sand we got stuck and had to dig to get out barely did thinking we would have to get a 4x4 to get the trailer out. Lots of privacy around the dune area. Recently updated to 50 amp service and water on alot of sites We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Bathhouses older and worn looking but probably serviceable, three private shower rooms in the bathhouse near us. Unfortunately many campsites not open for use when we were there so site selection was limited, the G loop has water/electric with some sites large enough for RV's, we have a 30 ft class A. Some sites were quite level and others were not, our site was filthy with junk left by a previous camper but most looked OK. There are some small sites shaded by pine trees but they are very close to the road. The sites closer to the beach are more open and scrubby. The beach is very close, just separated from the campground by the dunes. Beach access is via several walkways throughout the park. Expensive but location is everything. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Park is located between the bay and a busy parkway with some sites located very near the parkway. We enjoyed our stay at First Landing SP. All sites were just a short walk over the dunes to Chesapeake Bay. We were there July 4th weekend. It was busy at the day use parking area. We enjoyed the 4th of July barbecue they provided and the fireworks from the beach. The rest of the week was quiet. They have a lot of nature programs that we took advantage of with the kids-crabbing, turtle hunt, sunset beach walk. There were beautiful walking and biking trails on the other side of the busy highway that runs through the state park. Some campsites are extremely close to this highway. Lots of noise during the day. Park is mostly shady tent sites. There was a grassy parking area for big rigs near the campstore/day use parking area but no hook ups. Campstore was one of the best stocked I have seen. Lots of camping/fishing stuff and tons of souveniers. Many well behaved dogs on the beach. I believe a lot of locals bring their dogs because we didn't see a lot around the campground. We didn't bring our pets because we wanted to visit Virginia Beach but the next time we go we will definitely bring the dogs. Only a short drive to Virginia Beach. Staff very friendly and helpful. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

We camped here over Memorial Day weekend, so our comments should be taken in that context. In short, we will not come here again during any busy period. Thus far we have been quite pleased with Virginia State Parks, but this was just too crowded. Other state parks we've been to typically isolate the campground from other facilities. But here they have a day use area with access to the Chesapeake Bay for beachgoers, an educational center, and an amphitheater -- all adjacent to the campground. In fact, you have to drive through the day use parking area and past the educational center and amphiteater to get to one loop of the campground. There seemed to be evening activities at the amphiteater all three nights, so I'm sure those in the loop got little peace. The camp store is adjacent (adjoined?) to the educational center and amphiteater, but on this weekend with its day-use hoards there was no parking anywhere near it. But the kicker for us (with no shower and hot water in our small popup): On Saturday and Sunday they seemed to run out of hot water at every bathhouse. (Friday night was fine.) We tried three of them Sunday and finally resigned ourselves to cold showers. The staff guessed that demand outstripped supply. There is a major thoroughfare adjacent to the campground, and some campsites are no more than 100' from the road, with nothing more than a fence and some vegetation separating the road from the site -- obviously not very peaceful. Fortunately, we got a site closer to the bay, and it was actually very nice. They told us there are no "waterfront" sites and that those closest to the bay are separated from it by sand dunes. But we could partially see the bay over the dunes. And we had a much better view from atop a small dune next to the site on which we could set our chairs and watch the sunset across the water. So the site itself was quite nice, and level. I think this would be a very nice park to visit in, say, September (NOT Labor Day), when the air and Chesapeake Bay are still warm but the crowds have diminished. But again, not for us during busy season. We camped here in a Tent Trailer.

This place, simply put, is a DUMP. The only way that they could have gotten a 5 star rating would be for the owner have a last name of Woodall. The place is enormous and laid out kinda helter skelter. Since the park was way less than 1/3 full you would think that we would have been escorted to our site. Nope. We unhooked and after about 10 minutes found the premium site they bragged about. A sea of mud, no grass, no gravel and to make it even more special the picnic table had to be moved since it was in the middle of the site. We go back to the office and request a better site. To their credit they gave us the choice of a number if sites, all either all dirt or grass and dirt, the grass had not been mowed or cared for since George Washington marched through here. Now for the good things....no Wi-Fi unless you want to pay for it. Poor Verizon reception. Narrow roads that make it almost impossible to drive a large rig through the park. So many trees that our dish didn't work. The office said to to site 164, it has great reception. A wall of trees around that site. They suggested another, worse. Finally they said we could move into the "premium" section and have cable. They gave us the choice of 4 sites. We found the one we liked and went to the office to be told that all of them on their list were reserved but that they did have one. This site was so small and narrow we could not have parked our Jeep in it. And if another RV was next to us, we would have to be careful opening out door so as not to hit them. In short, you stay here you have no one to blame but yourself. Notice I said nothing about the jets that scream overhead as correctly stated in a prior review. We knew this and were sorta looking forward to watching them. I think that this may have been the only plus we found. We would not stay here again, even if they paid us. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Great playgrounds for the kids. They have one pool near the Super Sites heated and open. Wi-Fi is a pay set-up and the jets are very NOISY! I love my country and I am not asking the Navy to change. Though, I do not have to camp right at a NAS. If you have always had an urge to camp on the deck of an aircraft carrier, you will love it here. I do not think I will camp here again. Nice campground but acceptability of sites depends on where you are. The concrete-pad super-sites are more expensive but well worth the extra money. They're level, clean and have cable. The dirt sites are level but have no cable (which wasn't pointed out at time of check-in) and lots of dirt (or mud if it's raining) gets tracked into the RV. Wi-Fi is available but at a high cost. Nice dog park. Noise from the Oceana NAS jets is horrible and unpredictable, continuing until nearly midnight on one night. Virginia Beach seems to have only 3 campgrounds, 2 of which are right under the jets. The 3rd one can't accommodate big rigs. Rate reflects discount. Will stay here again only if we have to work in Virginia Beach. Will definitely not vacation here. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

We came to Virginia Beach during the off season (therefore the lower rate. We opted out of the super sites (slab with cable). The sites were clean, and convenient pull throughs. Not exactly level, but not difficult to establish. Maneuvering the fifth wheel along narrow roads was not difficult as trees were manicured well. Hookups in center of site to accommodate all rigs. Rate same as DoD cites in the area. Office and park staff friendly, courteous and very helpful. Will definitely consider for future stays. Staying here for 1+ months before heading west. We stayed 5 nights while visiting family in the area. We stayed in the Super Sites and was surprised at the space, cement pads, lighted hookup pedestal, and goomed grounds. They had an upscale picnic table and large fire rings. Bagged trash was picked up at the site. Staff was friendly and helpful. Our 2 dogs also loved the Dog Park close to our site. For those coming in warm weather, the park has 4 swimming pools. We were given a Good Sam discount; they also offer free beach parking 2 miles down the road. Since Virgina Beach is Naval base, there were jets flying over head practicing their touch downs. To us it was the sound of "freedom", but some may not like to watch the show. As a note, the jets do not fly at night. Great value, great park. We would visit again. We camped here in a Motorhome.

We liked this campground so much that we have booked two reservations for next year for a total of four weeks. The roads are paved and wide; we are 42 feet with a tow and had no difficulty maneuvering around the campground or pulling into our site. The power, water, cable are as good as it gets. The site where we are camped is wide and has a wide concrete pad. The sites are staggered and fairly wide. The picnic table is extra large, and the site has a fire ring. Other parts of the campground do not have a concrete pads but appear plenty wide and level. The noise from the jets is noticeable, but it was not an irritant to us. It is the sound of freedom. One of our neighbors found the noise level too much but loved the campground and location. Others did not mind or liked the sound of the Jets. This is the off season so the campground is lightly populated but does fill up on the weekends. The pools were closed and the camp store was only open on the week end. There is a convenience store very close to the entrance of the campground. We are runners and bike riders so we especially appreciate the bike path down to the boardwalk. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Have camped here several times before and that is why we came back. If you don't mind the scream of jets it's a great place. Stayed here for 6 nights. During the summer months I'm sure this place is packed. Lots to do for everyone. The interior roads are all paved. Checking in was easy and the staff very friendly. They let us choose the site we wanted and gave us the prices for all. Yes the premium sites are nice with there concrete slabs but is very open. Wi-Fi was the best we have experienced in a campground. Of course you are very close to all amenities. The staff upon check in give you a paper full of the great eating and shopping establishments. Maintenance staff continuously sprucing and cleaning the grounds and buildings. Also saw one of the staff testing the water supply. Never have seen that in a campground before. I would definitely stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Why the "1". This part of the park we stayed in is beautiful and deserving of a "10", however, it is adjacent to the end of the Oceania Naval Air Base runway. Fighter jets do practice landings from 0700 to 2200 or midnight. They are so close that I could read their tail numbers. For those who have not been around fighter jets, there is no sound suppression while training. Even inside your RV, you could not communicate with one another as they took off and landed. This IS NOT the fault of the Navy. We received no notice of this from the staff when we checked in, and had I looked closer at the ratings on this site, I would have found this issue, so shame on me. After the first jet or so (I do love to watch them) the noise was overwhelming. Hence, we only stayed 2 nights, what we paid for when we checked in. Otherwise.... Please understand that my assignment of a "10" is reserved for those campgrounds such as the newer Outdoor Resorts, Cane Creek, or Bluewater Key. We used this location as a mid-way point for the surrounding areas. The site was huge, clean, and paved. The roads were paved and wide enough for our 40 ft. coach & toad. The staff was extremely helpful. They have a nice playground for kids and dog park. We did not use wi-fi, but found our Verizon Cell phones working extremely well. We will not return here.. We camped here in a Motorhome.

I'm sure this park is great during the season but about everything is closed down in September. Our site was horrible. Huge tree roots made it almost impossible to get into and when it rained the site was actually ankle deep in mud. We weren't sure we were going to be able to get out and left huge ruts behind. The premium sites are gorgeous, but of course you pay through the nose for them. I think the non-premium sites are too expensive for what you get off season. It still seems to be the best park in the area, but once again, I feel it's overpriced. The jet noise was pretty bad, too. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

This place is a city, really with 800+ sites when it fills up there could be a couple thousand people staying here. It is very well run, very organized and deserves high ratings. The staff is professional, garbage is picked up at your site each morning, no need to search for a dumpster. There are multiple bath houses, the one closest to us was just great! Latest plumbing hardware you could find. The shower was something out of a movie: a square flush mounted shower head in the ceiling, it was like standing under a warm waterfall. It's amazing they can keep up with the hot water demand. I never wanted to leave. The camp has a big store with all the things you might need on the road. I was able to find a new water filter and reducer. All in all it's a nice place to stay and I'd visit again. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Rate reflects weekly. We had a back in/50A full hookup with cable. There was a wood patio on a gravel site. Sewer connection was under the RV. Cable and electric box were worn... condition of sites varies a lot, many are small some not level. Recent heavy tropical rains had the ground saturated, most sites were dry, but still a lot of water in the lower spots. Nice pool, laundry and office and store. Premium sites are nice, but full. Quiet during the week; not so much on weekends, but the Navy flies everyday, all hours; expect jet noise... Tengo WIFI is $5/day or $15/week. Most campgrounds of this size and cost make it free these days, AirCard signal is weak. We have stayed here before over the last 6 years... not many improvements; but of the RV parks close to the beach area - this is still the best one. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This is an A+ park. The sites are extremely large. They are probably about 36 deep by 40 wide. The office staff was extremely helpful. They roads are blacktop and the sites are gravel with plenty of grass. Every site has a picnic table and a fire ring. There are some trees. They also have a parking lot one block from the ocean for their customers to park in free of charge. This was a real plus if you are going to the beach. We will definitely stay here again. Extremely overpriced!! We stayed in a super site, which was $80 and not any nicer than many sites we've had at other campgrounds for around $50. We had two extra adults at $6 each. Then they also charged us for our vehicle! You would think that high price would include everything. Wi-fi is also an extra charge. Nice campground but crowded. Most campers were from Quebec and speak mostly French. The Super Sites are a must but are too expensive. The rest of the park is wooded and muddy. Streets are paved and they have four pools. Wi-Fi cost extra. You would think at this nightly rate, everything would be included. Even maid service. The campground staff wasn't very friendly, long lines for check-in. The beach was 2.5 miles away. The reserved parking lot for 160 vehicles was really handy. The bike path was very nice, but just a little too long for children to ride to the beach every day. The fighter jets flew often, but we loved them, just knowing that is the sound of our freedom. The water pressure is extremely low during peak times. The super site area is very well groomed. We have never paid $80.00 a night before and never will again. We will not return. We camped here in a motor home and the reservation was made two months earlier. Heeding advice by other reviewers here I asked for a so-called "Super Site." I was told they were sold out. Furthermore a specific site could not be guaranteed until arrival despite taking a hefty deposit. On arrival the place was chaotic with three people attempting to handle check-ins. A line of RV's stretched out six-deep. The staff is apparently French Canadian and English deserts their vocabulary if you ask any questions. They are un-smiling and not helpful. The with the exception of the Super Sites, the grounds are not well maintained. A walk to the Super Sites showed them to be definitely better. They are wide, lengthy and paved. A 45' Newell or Prevost would be quite comfortable with plenty of room for a towed vehicle. There is a huge premium for these sites which include cable TV, not available in most other parts of the park. Reception of Norfolk TV stations in the older sections via roof-top antenna is difficult due to the densely wooded surroundings. On the plus side, there are three swimming pools and volleyball courts. There is a bus to the beach (about two miles away) As others have mentioned, the nearby Oceania Naval Air Station is busy and fighter jet overflights can be noisy. As a military brat it wasn't particularly bothersome to me... it is, as they say, "The sound of freedom." With over 800 sites, this park is over-priced, unfriendly and not worth the high price. We won't be back. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Nice park but crowded. Electric, water and cable TV were good. Plenty of Quebec’s who pretend they don’t understand English. We stayed in the upgraded section which was worth the extra money. Plenty to do in the area but very expensive along the boardwalk. Jet noise was constant the 4 days we were here, one night till 1:30AM. The flight path appears to be over the CG. Nice to see and hear in the beginning but gets old quick. This is not a knock on the cg, it’s not their fault. We probably would not come back. We camped here in a Motorhome.

We stay ONLY in the Super Sites. We were on site #823 which is on the first row; end site. It was a very large site with enough space between sites to fit in another RV. The super sites are all paved with a lovely circular patio that included the largest picnic table with backs I have ever seen. There was also a fire "bowl" on the patio. The super sites all have cable TV which was strong and offered numerous channels. I'll reiterate what another reviewer stated. Jet noise can be loud but we just saluted each one and said It was the "sound of freedom". The reason for the 9 rating is because parts of the campground (sites) seem uncared for and there is a $4.95 daily charge if you want Wi-Fi access. It's through Tengo Internet and I feel for $54.00 a night, Wi-Fi should be included if the campground offers Wi-Fi. I will not pay for Wi-Fi at ANY campground. I just used the 3G on my iPhone. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

We were here for the Holiday Lights in the Park weekend. It was nice! The kids loved the inflatables for the Santa carnival. The only way we would stay at this campground is if the super sites are available, they are much nicer than the standard sites. I called in April 2010 to reserve two sites. Was told that they wouldn't give a site number but they would be adjoining sites in the "Super Sites" section. We arrived to find we were assigned in that section but 5 streets apart. We explained that this was not acceptable as we share food, etc. The clerk at the desk was very rude and referred us to the manager. He was no better. Kept telling me I should have called to change the reservation? WHAT? Change it why? I was never given a site number. He kept us waiting for 45 minutes, told us he had to change 9 reservations which made no sense. If you don't give out site numbers, how difficult can it be to switch them? He never apologized or said anything that admitted the error on their part. The campground is way more than 50% French Canadian, as a prior post mentioned. It's more like 75-90% and the management definitely caters to that clientele. The free beach parking lot is jam-packed. You can get a spot if you are there before 10am, but good luck getting out of the lot in the afternoon; people park everywhere they possibly can. Camp store is well stocked, laundry is large but expensive. Pools are nice and understandably crowded. I think many prefer to stay there rather than fight the traffic/parking to go to the beach. The jets start flying by 8am at the latest (one morning it was 6:45) and generally don't quit until around 10pm. You cannot carry on a conversation while they fly over. The super sites are awesome and the bathhouses (at least in that section) are in the process of being remodeled and will be very luxurious, for a campground. It's a shame, but because of the attitude of the management & employees, we will never return to this campground. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

We really liked this campground except they put our 40' 5th wheel in the back lot. The roads are very narrow with lots of trees. Just returned from this park and we had a great time. We stayed 7 nights and were never bored. The kids loved the pools and stayed busy with the activities offered each day. Nice place to ride bikes around the park and a safe ride to the beach boardwalk. Even though we were nervous about staying in a W&E site, they offer the honeywagon service at a decent price. I'd say without a doubt that this was one of the neatest campgrounds we've ever stayed at! They have nightly entertainment at the main pool (including dancing) which my kids LOVED! They have 4 or five pools. At the main pavilion, they offered occasional karake as well as BINGO nightly. The beach area parking lot that the campground owns, is nice because it's free to park there, but you have to get there at a reasonable time or the lot is full. We managed to find a spot each time but on the weekends, the lot(s) are PACKED! The bathhouses are not really all that clean but it's a large campground so I'm sure it's hard to keep them clean all the time. I've been in some pretty horrible bathhouses and campared to them, I'd give the cleanliness of the ones there at 7 out of 10. They pick up your trash for you so you don't need to constantly be running to the dumpsters. Our site was site 519 and it was 39 x 60 feet. I'd recommend asking for that site. It was somewhat more private than many of them. However, if you want to spend the money, the supersites looked fabulous! The jets flying overhead were at times a bit loud, but we LOVED to see them flying. The sound is just something you deal with to see something that neat! Grocery stores are fairly close as well as many great restaurants if you choose to eat out. I'd highly recommend this campground as well as Virginia Beach! We camped here in a Tent Trailer.

Huge campground, so big I never saw the entire property. Playgrounds were just okay. Our site was nice and paved. Half the campground was French. Great pools. The most well stocked camp store I have ever seen. WiFi was iffy at times. Bands and music until 11 pm every night. Jet noise was constant but not too annoying. Staff was very friendly and buying discounted tourist tickets at the office was a plus. Bathrooms were good but laundry facility needed a cleaning. The crowd was very diverse and ethnic. The supersites are awesome, get one if you can, well worth it. We would camp here again. We camp all summer and this is the first time I've ever locked our trailer when we were gone, just way too many people in the campground, especially when a city bus comes in. They need cable TV also. Absolutely LOVED this campground!!!! This was my first time here but definitely won't be my last. I agree with other posters about the super sites being FANTASTIC! Since it was my FIRST time, I just had a regular site but I will definitely be getting one of the SUPER sites next year. It is worth the extra $20 a night!!! Campground was HUGE. We enjoyed playing the nightly Bingo and then dancing the night away to a band. We didn't even attempt parking at their free lot on the beach since it was 4th of July weekend. We paid for the $2 all day trolley rides and it worked out perfectly. (Although stopping at the KOA campground, the water park, and the aquarium did take a while at times.) There a ton of French speaking people at this campground. It didn't bother us. We were just surprised at how most all the signs were both in English and French. I would definitely recommend this campground and I will be back. Although it was a busy holiday weekend, it never seemed too crowded.... Had a blast! We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

This review is based on the super sites: very large, concrete and paved sites. It's clean, has a dog park and nice swimming pools. Has a camp store with souvenirs and camping supplies. Also has Miniature Golf. We stayed in a regular site last summer and were not impressed. We have since stayed twice in 2010 in 'super' sites. There is no comparison. We made a 2 day stop over due to Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel restrictions. We were surprised how many rigs were camping here for January. We picked one of the super sites, an excellent choice. This park lays just to the east of Oceania Naval Air Station and is right in the flight path of all the Navy fighter jets taking off. It can get so loud that you can't hear the TV or carry on a conversation with someone. While I realize that this jet noise is the sound of "Freedom", it can become very annoying. This is a large, very busy campground close to all of the Virginia Beach attractions. There is also a tremendous number of things to do at the campground, ranging from miniature golf, to golf cart rentals to multiple swimming pools. We stayed on the "super sites" in the newer part of the park and while pricey, they were paved, immaculately landscaped and maintained, with garbage pickup at your site several times a day. The other part of the park is a significant step down. They have two great fenced-in dog runs as well. The one drawback -- and they should warn prospective campers about this on their website and in the brochures -- is that they are a stone throw away from Oceania Naval Air Station. The noise from jet aircraft is almost constant, depending upon wind direction, to the point of making it impossible to talk when they are practicing take-offs,landings, and formation flying. Love this campground: if only they had cable TV. They have cable TV only in the expensive luxury sites and plan to expand it to the rest of the park. Staff is fabulous: clerk spent a lot of time making sure we got a site we liked. The chief gardener is very creative and obviously loves his work. When they started taking down a tree next to our site, we called the office and in two minutes it was stopped. There is a lot of noise from Navy planes. Nearby are the Norfolk Navy base and the Oceana Naval Air Station. Big aircraft carriers dock at Norfolk Navy base for maintenance, the jets go to Oceana Naval Air Station and the pilots fly them almost every day to keep in practice. We were annoyed by the constant FedEx jets when we stayed just south of Memphis, but this is different. These are the guys protecting us and our country. But we still used earplugs at night. In 33 months of fulltiming we have found lots of friendly CG staff members, but here everybody was cooperative and friendly. We will be back. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Fairly close to Virginia Beach, but even closer to Oceania Naval Air Station where hoards of very loud F-18's fly by very regularly. We were there in off-season, so some sections of the campground and many of the amenities were closed such as the snack bars and 3 of the 4 pools. Some of the restrooms/showers were also closed, and it would have been nice if we were informed of this when we checked in. The camp store also had very limited hours, again being due to the off-season. When we called in August and inquired about staying there in September, we were told that there was a free shuttle that went from the campground to the beach, however, it turns out that this shuttle only runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day. However, the campground does have a fairly large parking area that can accommodate RVs that is a short walk to the beach, so we ended up doing this. There was Wi-Fi available, but it cost an extra $5 per day. We camped here in a Motorhome.

We loved this place. It is in a resort town, so expectations of the great outdoors would be foolish. Jets did pass overhead, but nothing ever loud enough to disrupt speaking or TV. This is a very good family campground. Staff were friendly and helpful. We took the trolley from the campground to the beach. Its a short ride and would definitely recommend it instead of driving. Close to the beaches, area activities, shopping and restaurants. Lots to do with four pools, minigolf, gameroom, bike rentals. The main pool stayed open until 11pm which we enjoyed. There are jets that fly overhead but the noise is really not bad. Agree with other post about the blackbirds. Not sure if a previous reviewer was staying at the same place, but this campground was great. There are 4 swimming pools and several bath houses located throughout the campground making it great. Our site was water and electric only, but we were close to a bath house so not having sewer was not a big deal. Our site was huge: it was the largest site we have ever had since we have been camping. Trash was promptly picked up numerous times during the day: rarely saw trash sitting out waiting to be picked up. Jets from the navel air station were constant throughout the day, but a small price to pay knowing we have a great military. Entertainment nightly for everyone to enjoy. We were far enough away that we didn't hear it at our campsite. Main pool stayed open until well past 11pm and was well maintained. All the pools were well maintained. The dog park was wonderful. Staff was very helpful. The parking lot at the beach was great, but need to make sure you get there early for a spot. Overall, looking forward to our next visit. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

The place was packed when we were there and we actually had to move to the KOA for the last week we were there because they didn't have any more spaces. How do I begin? There is plenty of activities, pools, and nightly entertainment. It's very loud at times with lots of unruly kids. Our campsite was level and very spacious: the most spacious we have ever had. The only problem was we were right across the street from the bath houses. People were constantly cutting through our campsite, and I do not mean on the edge either! It was so bad we felt the need to lock everything up whenever we went anywhere and could not eat outside without people looking at our plates because they were that close! When my kids decided to cut through an unoccupied site, they were severely screamed at though. (I told them it was rude to cut through even unoccupied sites but how do you explain that when your campsite is a super highway). A very convenient park to Virginia Beach. There was a bike trail from the campground to the boardwalk, only two miles away. Sites were very level and most were shaded. Roads were paved, and the entire campground was very clean. Staff was very friendly and work hard to accommodate requests. We made our reservations late, and thought we would have to move after the first night, but they worked it out for us to have what we wanted. Bath houses, pools and stores were conveniently placed around the park, giving this large park a smaller feel. I had high expectations of this campground based on the reviews. Unfortunately, our initial impression was very disappointing. (Our exact words were, "If this place is better than the KOA, then it must be REALLY bad over there.") It was dumpy in our opinion and not well-maintained like previous posts stated. They'd benefit by having trash bins distributed thoughout the campground. It was not uncommon to see beer cans or water bottles littered in the bushes. And the squirrels and black birds rummaged thru the campsites and trash awaiting pick-up. This is a busy, loud campground. In addition to the jet noise (which promptly started at 0756 each morning and ended after 10 pm: some days were louder than others), there was a band playing at the main pool each night until 11 pm and Children's karoake at the pavilion (the echo from that thru the trees was awful sounding). But we enjoyed the swimming pools, and the camp stores had everything we needed. The super sites looked like another world from the site we were on: it was clean and modern over there! The trolley to the boardwalk was convenient as was the parking lot on 9th St. This campground is very popular with Quebec residents, and quite often we found ourselves to be the only English speaking people at the pool. We paid for the Wi-Fi for a week ($15) and it was not very reliable and we actually lost service after the 3rd day. It's doubtful we'll return. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

We booked our site for 7 nights but we didn't want to leave so we asked to stay for another night. It is a big busy park but there are enough restrooms, stores and pools to keep it from feeling crowded. A lot of reviews mention the jet noise. For the 8 days we were here only 2 of them were very active with planes. To be honest it was kind of cool to watch and hear them go over. They also stayed in the time frame of 8am until 10pm. Virginia beach is close but I found it to be a bit too much of a bike ride so I used the free parking lot on 9th street. We are a family of 4 and the kids are 8 and 11. Nice, clean park. Our site, #67 was very small (they won't guarantee a specific site). Site noisy due to nightly live entertainment nearby which ended at 11PM, then everything quiet. But it also was a short walk to bus stop. Used bus service, $2 per person/unlimited use, carried chairs, coolers, umbrellas with no problem. Can transfer to another bus and go anywhere on boardwalk for no extra fee. Jet noise is there but not overwhelming(its on the beach too), no problem at night. Pools (4) clean and not overcrowded. We were in the "Eden" section (used to be extended stay sites) and had a huge site with cement pad and a 12'x 12' wooden deck, flowers and a fire pit. The site backed onto a forest with plenty of room for a screen tent. (site #318). The resort provides a shuttle to the beach as well as a free parking lot at the beach....however, good luck getting a parking place! The "Blue Angels" practice fly-overs was a bonus! We camped here in a travel trailer and had a great time. Yes, jets do fly overhead here, some days they were worse than others but overall I think it was tolerable. My kids enjoyed watching them. There was a fire in the cafe during our stay and unfortunately it shut down the front pool and the laundry room for the remainder of our stay. I could live with one less pool but staying for a week with kids and no laundry room got to be a little rough towards the end of our stay. If I could change one thing, it would be to add another laundry room somewhere else in the resort. The pools were fantastic, and yes, we tried out all 4. They had nightly entertainment which was nice. The park was kept very clean. There is a shuttle that will take you to the beach, I wouldn't recommend if you have kids and a lot of stuff to take to the beach with you. We did use it in the evening to go down to enjoy dinner and the boardwalk and it was fine. Loved having the reserved parking lot for campground patrons to park at the beach. The beach was about a block away from the parking lot. Parking is definitely at a premium down there. We loved our stay and are definitely going to go back. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

This is not for those who enjoy peace and quiet.Jets roared overhead from 7:15 am till 10 pm. If you want wi-fi it will cost you $3-4.95 a day,$15 a week. We stayed 3 nights. I will not recommend this park. We were promised a full hook up and only got water and electric. We had to pay the additional fee to have the tanks pumped. The security was nonexistent. During our stay, there were at least 4 bikes stolen. Two of which were ours. We were told that they know they have a problem with theft because the people can get on the beach shuttle and come into the park. Seem like they would have some type of security measure to keep the people that were not staying here out. The noise was terrible. They have quiet hours but this weekend they were not enforced but were ignored totally. We were walking to the camp store and another guest almost hit us with their car and they even yelled curse words at us for walking. Although the park was completely full and the park managment should have made better arrangments for security. When we expressed our concerned they said: "You should have locked your bikes" and "You should not have been walking in the way of cars". The attitude was flippant at best. Although we had a pull through site it was very difficult to get into. In order to get close enough to power and water to have room on the front side of our RV I had to pull up and back several times. Not a pleasant task. This is a very large park with plenty of well shaded sites. The week we arrived it had been pouring rain. Most of the sites are on grass/dirt/mud so we up-graded to the deluxe sites with concrete pads for MH and picnic table. As others have noted, jet noise is very loud during the day but it ends a night. All hook-ups were fine. Stores were very large and well stocked. Pools were everywhere, tennis courts, and plenty of play grounds were scattered thru-out the facile. Trolley service to beach is available every 20 mins until 2:00 am. Will definitely be back. We booked one of the Super Sites for 4 nights and it was one of the best camp sites that we have seen. This campground is close to the Navy base but those airplanes flying over is music to our ears, knowing these great men and women are allowing us to keep our freedom. The airplanes were no problem at night. We were in town visiting relatives and will definitely stay at this campground whenever the opportunity arises. We camped here in a Truck Camper.

Please be advised they do have a dangerous dog policy. We had to leave our Rottweiler at home, even though he is well trained. Lumping all dogs into the same category, based on breed, is the same as lumping all people into the same category based on race. Ridiculous. Will never visit this campground again. This is a very large well run park. It has nice shade on most sites. Some nights they do have a band by the pool but the park is so large I don't think this is a problem. We were probably 300 feet from the pool complex, which is closer than 90 percent of the sites, and it didn't bother us. If the navy is flying you are in the landing pattern for Oceana Naval Base. Jets landing and taking off are loud. There is a nice paved bike trail that connects with sidewalks closer to Virginia Beach which allows you to bike to the Virginia Beach Boardwalk without getting in the street. There is a separate paved bike trail that runs parallel to the pedestrian boardwalk, so you can ride alongside the 2 mile long boardwalk unlike many other boardwalks which don't allow bikes. The park is at least a mile from the boardwalk, so it is a pretty long ride, but my 7 year old made it. The Virginia Aquarium is along the bike trail on the way to the boardwalk. The park also has a parking lot 2 blocks from the boardwalk if you want to drive to the beach and park. The easiest way to get to the beach and boardwalk is the shuttle that serves the park. This place is quite large and seems to be reasonably well run although there is a lot of room for improvement. There is a mix of different types of sites. We stayed in a full hook-up and had to move once during our stay. The standard full hookup sites are on mostly grass with some gravel so it got pretty muddy in some areas while we were there. The super sites looked better but none were available. You will like this place if you like organized activities and lots of people everywhere. The four pools are also outstanding. If you want to visit the beach they have transit available and parking on a first come first serve basis. You will not like this place if you don't like lots of very small crowded campsites, absolutely no sign of security or policing of the campground, kids driving around recklessly in golf carts, frequent jet fly-overs, low water pressure, inadequate laundry facilities, pay-for-use Wi-Fi, loud bands playing every night until 11pm - don't even try to sleep before they finish. The most unique thing about this place is that they do not have trash bins that are accessible - instead you put your trash at your sign post, and they pick it up. The only problem is they don't do it very often so it stinks, and birds and squirrels pick it apart. I have stayed in much better for $58/night. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Loved it! What can I say. This was our first time staying here and we plan on going back next year! When we first came into the park we were in the grass/stone area. It had rained that night and it was a muddy mess. The next morning I went to the office and they were able to fit us into a supper site for the whole week! WOW! It was great, we wre close to the pool and the best part was no mud! There was a lot of stuff for the kids to see and do and the stores stayed open late for that late night ice cream trip. Park entrance was clean and well marked. Roads well maintained. Fires allowed but no fires rings provided. Site was level and wooded, not much grass, mainly gravel although other more open sites had more grass. Water quality was good with plenty of pressure. No road noise, but wow, the jet traffic in and out of Oceana!!! This campground is directly under the flight path to the base. Hope you don't want to sleep past eight am. Never saw any sign of security after dark, although we had no problems. Office staff was friendly, although they were not very knowledgeable about nearby attractions. Trash pickup was spotty at best. The birds and squirrels have learned that trash bags mean food. Combined with the winds, that made for quite a mess in the park. Pets allowed, but I never saw anyone cleaning up after them. So step carefully. Free parking provided for guests at the beach, but even so, I doubt we will stay here again. Equivalent accommodations are available nearby, namely the KOA across the street we stayed at last year. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

We were camped here from mid January until mid April in our Class C. This RV park & the KOA across the street were the only parks available to us within driving distance of our jobs in Norfolk. We are life time campers and full timers. This campground was a pure disaster. First we were over charged. When we left the campground in April nothing was open, no swimming pools, or stores and only a 2 restrooms. The campground was 90% empty yet our fees increased from 500 a month to 879 for April. March is considered the start of tourist season. Though the weather was cold & raining. The campground web site warns you about jets flying over head. Let me reiterate that warning. The jets are so noisy you will have to stop your conversation, put your TV on subtitles, and forget about taking a nap. Look on Google maps, the Oceana Naval Air Station runway is less than a mile from the campground. There is no pattern or reason for the flights. Many days jets fly over at the tree tops every 2 minutes. Some days they start at sunset and do not stop until after 2 am. The Naval Air Station was developed before Virginia Beach but this area cannot promote itself as a vacation destination when you feel like you are vacationing in Baghdad. A huge junk yard forms the boundary of the campground. You occasionally hear small arms fire, I assume this noise comes from training at one of the area military bases. The other primary problem is security. There is none. There are plenty of signs but no night time security at all. Our neighbor was mugged & another neighbor had her dog attacked by a bigger dog. We witnessed campers coming in at dusk after the office was closed and leaving at dawn. We also witnessed plenty of people using the showers and bathrooms without camping in the campground. We saw these things almost daily. All this was reported to the office but nothing changed. Initially we took walks every night but as we grew familiar with the campground and area we stopped because of the number of people who came up to us asking for money. Yes, the premier sites are nice and level and expensive but they still have the same jet noise and they are closer to the main road. The regular sites are muddy & tight. There is a parking lot closer to the beach for use by the people at the campground. The parking lot is not very big & it is about 2 blocks from the beach. Virginia Beach is not that great either but that is another story. We loved our jobs is Norfolk but left when our contract expired because we could not stand the campground another day. We stayed in the super sites and they were all nicely leveled. It was early in the season and they were just starting to fix everything up for summer. They have a total of 4 pools 3 which are old. 8 bathrooms and 1 of them is new. Its a nice friendly place and when we needed suggestions on what to do around Virginia beach, the office lady was able to give us great ideas. The roads not in the super sites area need to be up-dated and they need new bathrooms but otherwise everything else is nice. You cant sleep-in here because at 8am the air-force base begins flying its jets right over the area. Its not the campgrounds fault for the planes but every place in Virginia beach will hear the planes. We would camp here again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

This is a HUGE campground but feels homey. Everything was very clean and neat and the staff couldn't have been friendlier. There are a lot of things for kids to do. Our site was a reasonable size - we saw larger ones but we had plenty of room. We were there for the Halloween celebration weekend and they had many activities but some were a little pricey. We did enjoy decorating our site and taking the grandkids trick-or-treating. The jets flying into Oceana went right over head and were extremely LOUD but only on Friday - nothing over the weekend. We were expecting this so were not really bothered. We were bothered by the teenagers driving the golf carts in the campground. There were a lot of them and they drove recklessly - sometimes racing - with their radios blasting. The campground security people chased some of them down and took their keys but then we'd see them again later. We could not let our grandkids go anywhere without us for fear they'd be run over. We really liked this campground but will not return if they continue to allow kids to operate golf carts. We would have given this campground an 8 or 9 but the golf cart situation was a big minus. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Very nice campground when visiting Virginia Beach area. We were in a large pull-though site that was easy to get in and out of the campground to see Virginia Beach. The main pool (they have 4) was close and it was nice to see they now have a little cafe that serves breakfast, lunch, and light dinners along with ice cream. We were very pleased with this campground. They have 4 pools but we only saw 3 of them and actually used 2 of them. They did not have lifeguards on duty, but an employee was always at the pools. This is the largest campground that we have ever stayed in and it was one of the quietest campgrounds. We stayed on site 560 and it was huge. My brother stayed on 562 and it was just as large. We could have all stayed on one site and had plenty of room. The free parking they offer was wonderful, but plan to get there early. The parking lot filled up quickly and they really pack people in. They also have 2 stores stocked with most everything you would need. They did charge $4.00 a day for internet. Another con was that they did not have fire rings. The bath house near our site is the only one we used and it was clean. The water pressure was not very good in the showers. It made it difficult to get all the sand from your hair. They had movies each night and on Friday night they had a DJ at the front pool. We would stay here again it was a terrific experience. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Holiday Trav-L-Park is extremely clean and maintained. This campground does have lifeguards at two of its four pools. The incident with the young man at the front pool was handled beautifully by all staff members, employees, managers, other campers who assisted and local EMS services. Ok, there is no getting around it. This park has jet noise from the nearby naval air station, but it was not that bad when we were there. Fortunately they did not take off at night. That said, it was still a great park--very clean and pretty. The staff was nice and helpful. We stayed in a super site—plenty long and ample width. The pads were cement and level. These sites had a patio, a table, and a portable fire pit. Much of the park is shaded but these sites were not. The 2 pools we saw (there are 4 total) looked clean, and there was a cute mini-golf course. The showers were clean. They had free WiFi throughout the park, but they were changing carriers when we were there, and it was not available. There were lots of cable channels with good reception. The park is not right on the beach, but it is a short drive (3 mi.)to their free parking lot that is just 2 blocks from the beach. There was not much parking in the beach area so this lot came in handy. We hope we can stay there again and definitely recommend it. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This was an excellent campground. We truly enjoyed our stay. The staff was friendly. The facilities were clean and well kept. The location is great. The free parking lot at the beach was a huge bonus. Our site backed to woods and was a great size. There were several activities each evening. The only reasons for the 8 rating and not a 10 are the lack of fire rings on the site, the over priced firewood at the camp store, and the fact that only 3 of the 4 pools where open when the campground was fully, if not over booked. We stayed here on the recommendation of our neighbors and loved it! Three of the four pools were open and had great entertainment by the front pool at night. The staff was super friendly. The jet noise was not bothersome at all, as maybe five jets went overhead all weekend. Our site was nice and level. We walked through the supersites and they were really nice, but much too pricey for me. The trolley is a great way to get around too. The only downside was the children and lack of supervision. Kids are riding bikes all hours of the day & night with no apparent care for pedestrians or motor vehicles. There are also no lifeguards at any of the pools and one child almost drowned during our visit. Signs are posted to swim at your own risk, but again no parental supervision is enforced. This is not the place to go if you're looking for a quite getaway either. Our whole family had a blast, so we will definitely return! We camped here in a Motorhome.

Stayed with 2 other families and had a great time. We only live about 10 miles away but use this campground as our yearly shake-down first trip of the season campground. With it being early in the season not all the amenities were open but the park staff was friendly and and was working hard to spruce the place up after the winter season. Yes you do get low level fly bys here but not late at night and it was enjoyable seeing the planes and knowing they are practicing to protect our freedoms to go camp. Would recommend staying at this campground if you want a place that is close to everything the beach has to offer. We camped here in a Tent Trailer.

Yes, it is right next to the Air station, but it really was not that bad - or you can say that we are just used to jet noise. The only complaint that we have is that they seemed to clean the bathrooms at odd times. 8:00 in the morning we walk up and the bathroom is closed for cleaning. We plan to go back. Watch your trash. We stayed here off season in their "Super Sites". These run $70 normally (yikes!). Nice site. Really wide and long. There would be no need to unhook even the longest rigs. We moved from our first site, as we had asked for a satellite friendly site and they put us right next to a dense stand of trees to the south (the park was empty, so it seemed strange that they did this). Facilities are a bit worn, but they have lots of everything. Four pools (all closed this time of year), mini golf, huge store (also closed). Trash pickup is a plus. We stayed here two nights in October to ride out a nor'easter that closed the Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel. We found this to be a very nice, well-managed park, very clean with a positive attitude from staff. Did not use the restrooms/showers as we use our own in the trailer. I thought the rate was reasonable; we had a regular site. The "Super sites" have cable tv. I appreciated the garbage pickup at the site; a convenience not often found in RV parks. The worst part of rv park camping in Virginia Beach is Naval Air Station Oceana. Both this park and the KOA across the road are right underneath the flight path of the fighter jets and helicopters. We did not stay on one of the supersites but rather out with the other common folk. Our site at the end of a roadway was fine and large enough for our fifth wheel and truck. However some of the sites were larger than others. The bathrooms were clean. The downside to the place is the constant jet take off's and landings from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Approximately every 3 to 5 minutes. It does get to be a little much. Also no cable TV and the reception with the RV antenna is not that great either. We did bike through the KOA which is just down the road and that place really looks run down compared to the Holiday L Travelpark. We also visited the First Landing State Park which is right on the water. Campsites there are just over the dune from the ocean. Beautiful but only limited water/sewer hookups and the bathrooms were a little primitive (what one would expect from a state campground). So Holiday L Travelpark is the best of the three. Wow - the Super Sites are the bomb at this place!! We stayed down by the horse farm and it was sooo peaceful. The Super Sites are paved and huge. Worth the money. We were within walking distance of the pool. The trolley comes right to the campground and takes you to the beach. You can either pay $1 a trip or $5 for unlimited trips for 3 days. Well worth it. They had a band playing at the main pool - that was nice. But, we didn't realize this park was a French-Canadian owned campground. Not a bad thing - but be warned, alot of people don't speak English. That made it alittle difficult - but, for the main part - it was fine. The staff was very nice in the check-in office, but, the staff in the store left a little to be desired. You can rent golf carts there. We took our bikes and enjoyed morning rides. VERY nice park. The sites were completely level and the hook-ups were great. The other area of the park seemed nice too, we rode around. The sites seemed a little tight though and were all dirt. The concrete sites of the Super Sites made it very nice. There were Fifth Wheels in the regular section and they looked very crammed - pay the extra money and stay in the Super Site section. Bathrooms and showers were very clean. They had mini-golf on site - $5 a person. We didn't play but it appeared clean. They also have an outside movie place for the kids. Lots going on. Main pool very crowded- other pools were not. Recommend. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

We Love this campground. Large campground with nice pools, nice game room, and lots of activities for the kids, and entertainment nightly for the Mrs. The staff is friendly and helpful. If you can't understand some of the French Canadian help, ask for a manager, they are very helpful. Close to the beach, and great for bicycle riding. We've been going here for 4 years now, and love it every time. Jet noise from nearby air-base is cool. It is fun to watch the Navy fighter jets fly around the outskirts of the campground, and sometimes directly overhead. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Our second time at this park and again, a terrific experience! The staff, though French speaking, are very friendly. Management was very helpful when we decided to extend our trip, and we didn't want to move sites. They worked on juggling other short stay sites and phoned our cell phone hours later when they were successful. Jet noise? I bought a bumper sticker that says, "I love jet noise" and we do. That is amazing to see and hear all day! My boys (ages 9 & 3) were more than thrilled as they saluted each aircraft, each and every time. Bathrooms and showers were clean. Laundry rooms are being added, thankfully as I have had to wait a very long time each time to wash. Store is well packed. The convenience of the trolley is priceless and also a main reason to camp in VA Beach rather than Myrtle Beach. Pools are clean, safe and can be busy: so chose another one! There are several. Loved the Bingo nights, karaoke nights and the pool side music. Mini golf is a family hit as are the nightly kiddie movies at the outdoor theater. Rates are great and the weekly discount is a bonus. Take advantage of the parking down at the beach, it's close to the beach and price is right. Sites are level, clean and mostly good size. We loved walking through the Super Site section, though we didn't stay in there, as $70 is a little much we think. Our only complaint is that they allow bike riding after dark. This is so dangerous and quite frankly is ultimately the parent's responsibility, but it would be nice if it were an enforced rule. We will return time and time again I am sure. I wished I could give this CG a higher rating as I really felt their supersites were great. They were some of the best I have seen anywhere, but their rates and the noise pulls their rating down. I just felt 70 bucks was way to much for this type of resort. The F-18 Hornets made it miserable at times and their runway is lined up with the CG. At 3,000 ft over your head your going to get your teeth rattled when they take off. Just off the beach (and close to the CG) is Whiskey Alley which is where military aircraft break the sound barrier (read sonic boom) a few times a day. I am a pilot and love aircraft, but 20 - 50 departures a day of F-18's (depending on their flight schedule) is ridiculous. You should hear it when they launch two at a time. We came, we seen, we heard and we won't be back at these prices. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This park is really big compared to most places I have stayed. There are hundreds of sites including the tent areas. It is close enough to VA Beach to ride your bicycle on the paved bike path to the boardwalk. There is also a trolley service to the beach. This is definitely a family CG with lots of weekenders. During the week they close some of the bathrooms when occupancy is low. The new section of the park has paved pull throughs for a premium price. There is no cable TV and many trees which makes sat reception a challenge. There are several pools which were in good shape during our visit. On the big holiday weekends, such as Memorial Day the place is packed and very active with drunken party types all around. The security staff was very minimal. They do not have dumpsters for garbage, instead they want you to leave the trash bags at the end of your site and their staff comes by in golf carts to collect about once a day. The problem is there are squirrels all over the place that tear up the garbage bags and make a mess. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Overall it was a fun place and I would stay there again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Just a brief update for May 2006. Agree with all positive comments previously given and have no negatives at all. Be warned: May 5 weekend is biker weekend there, and if you don't like snorting, unmuffled American iron from 7 am to 11 pm, don't go. Nice distance from the beach and all attractions in Norfolk, Hampton Roads and Newport News. Probably won't go again because of the jet noise, but that's not the owners' fault. We camped here in a Motorhome.

VERY nice CG, but noise level from planes a little annoying. I know the prices for super sites will be going up for high season, so that may keep us from going back. The super sites have lots of room, level concrete and great picnic table. This CG rates high on our list for places to go. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Labor Day Weekend 2005 we spent at Holiday travel park and the park was loaded. We went with another family and the sites we had were large, level and grassy. All facilities were kept clean which seemed like a hard task with the amount of people that were using the facility. The Security seemed to have their priority's wrong by hassling kids for playing in the playground after 10:00PM and ignoring the inconsiderate campers that decided all wanted to hear they're music after quiet time and decided to turn it back on at 7:00 AM. 2 Bikes and a Bike trailer were stolen off of a site late one evening and security instead of trying to assist just said it was probably locals coming in to the park and taking stuff. Sounds like a cop out to me and besides if security was working correctly then no one would be coming in at night that did not belong in the campground. With that said most of the staff was very friendly and I would recommend going there if you have kids. With 4 Swimming Pools, Game Room and plenty of activities for the kids they will have a blast. We camped here in a Tent Trailer.

This is a very nice park, large, with lots of variety in the types of sites. Ours was a pull through, easy in and out, shaded as well. The campground was very full, with plenty to do, both in the campground (4 pools!), and in and around VA Beach as well. Facilities were very clean, one bathroom was even air-conditioned!. Garbage pick up twice a day, and prompt maintenace if a problem was reported. Lots of French-Canadians were there when we were, very friendly. The Navy jets also made their presence known, however, we did not feel it was a problem. The only negative was expensive mini-golf prices ($10 for 2 kids), charges for air for bicycle tires, and no fire rings in our section. We would go back. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

We camped here with our daughter's Girl Scout Troop. My husband and I were in a pop-up and the girls were in tents. We found the bathrooms to be wonderful. They were new and very clean with many showers and toilets. The grounds were very nice. One swimming pool was open and it was large and clean. The girls played putt-putt on a very nice course. Some things weren't open yet for the season, like the other pool and one of the stores. I am from Virginia Beach and there is plenty of things to do in this area. Close by is the Virginia Aquarium and the ocean. We drove through the campground the weekend before to see where we would be taking the girls and it was packed. That was Memorial Day weekend. We stayed the following weekend and it was a lot less crowded. I give a rating of an 8 because the campsites were close together. As for the jets, thats life in Viginia Beach no matter where you camp or live here. Its the sound of freedom and locals have learned to live with it. We camped here in a Tent Trailer.

Very nice resort type campground with a fairly busy atmosphere. There are 4 large and very nice swimming pools located throughout the resort. They have a free parking lot at the beach about 2 miles away, but it does fill up by late morning. As previously mentioned, there is quite a bit of noise from low flying military jets. If you like a quiet atmosphere then you will likely find it bothersome, but I found it to be interesting. We had a very positive experience with security after my son's bicycle was stolen one evening from one of the pools. They were very responsive, and much to my surprise, found the bicycle abandoned elsewhere in the campground and returned it to our site. Our family had a great time here. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

A big park with lots of pools and people. Jets from the Navy Base next door scream through and they are loud. The have a DJ and band night at the main pool on the weekends which is also very loud. If you like a busy, active, loud campground then you'll like this place. It was clean, the pools were nice, and the staff was very friendly. We would go back. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Campground is nice, super sites area is really nice. There is noise from the aircraft but it's tollerable. Pools are kept up. The putt putt golf is nice but a little expensive ($5/hr). They have a nice parking area at the beach however this is a decieving as they rent it out to anyone else as well not just campers. When we were there they rented it out to soccer players and I saw 2 campers turned away so the soccer players (they were paying $10 a car) could come in. We weren't happy with that. All in all a nice campground. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

The best campground we have ever been in. We had a "supersite" so it was $60 a night but
less with our Good Sam's club card. The site was huge with a cement pad and patio, beautiful grassy area, each with a tree, lighted utilities hookup, huge awesome picnic table, and an decorative fire ring. The campground itself is awesome. No matter where your site is, you are near a great playground, a huge refreshing pool and a fully stocked store. Personally, I don't think the trolley ride was anything but the kids enjoyed it. The parking lot at the beach was two short blocks but worth it since parking anywhere else was $15-$20. If looking for a good restaurant while there, we reccomend "Rudee's Inlet". The food was awesome. We will definitely be returning. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

If you like busy, go-go-go, this is for you. Lots to do with several pools, many playgrounds, two stores, large arcade, mini golf, nightly live entertainment, nightly cartoon movie theatre, and many roads to walk or bike. They offer a 150 car parking lot at Virginia Beach free for campers, very friendly and helpful staff. We will definitely go back as we are a family that likes the action.

We have stayed here a couple of times. Our first visit got off to a rough start at the reservation desk. We had made reservations many weeks before our arrival. We called a couple days prior to leaving our home to confirm our reservation. When we arrived (after making a two-day, 18 hour trip from the midwest) we were told they didn't have a spot for us. We were told that other campers had decided to "extend" their stays, so we were left with nothing. Needless to say, my husband went ballistic. After arguing with the manager for about an hour, we got our campsite. Others who came in behind us were told the same thing. It was not a nice place to be that day. Anyway, once we got settled in we really did enjoy our stay. We loved the campground with its many pools and activites. We enjoyed taking the trolley to the beach. We visited the Marine Science Museum and other attractions around Va. beach. We have been back since that first trip and haven't had any problems with reservations. We learned to arrive early, right at "check-in" time. Many people may not agree with me here, but I feel that campers should not be allowed to "extend" their visits if the campsite has been promised to another family. We camped here in a Tent Trailer.

We've stayed here twice when visiting the VA beach area. I'm not sure why we went back
here. I guess we were just too lazy to find someplace nicer. The park isn't too bad. But, it is huge and the sites are nothing more than some dirt ruts in a big field. There are a few trees. Stayed in this park in the off season so all their amentites (pools, stores, etc) were closed. Park is well kept. Roads in the campground are narrow. Most sites are pull through. Staff was friendly and helpful. Full time campers are located in a seperate section of the campground. This campground is close to a military airfield but noise (sound of freedom) usually ends in the evening. Some road noise is audible too. Campground has a parking lot at the oceanfront for campers' use. Will stay at this park again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

I've stayed here numerous times during off season as I store my RV here year round. I find it worth the trip down from NH during those times to take the break. It's not crowed then, the beach is lovely and, uncrowded. The staff are friendly and always go out of their way to make each visit worth while. Since I store my RV here, I usually call ahead that I'm coming down. They ask me where I'd like to be and, upon my arrival. It's all plugged in and waiting for me. Kewl~! I don't know how they treat their RV customers but we stayed in one of their cabins, here's our experience. David's Sister & Hubby were staying in the park (he just got a job up there and haven't moved into their house). We said we'd stay with them for Turkey Day. Our bus has the skin removed and we couldn't use it. So we reserved one of their camping cabins @$40 per night. They said they would put us next to the bathhouse as it would probably be cold. We thought great! They mailed me a map of the campground (no confirmation or anything else). They didn't tell me that my
DEBIT card would be charged for the full stay up front. SURPRISE #1! $162 was charged and checks bounced (I'm currently running 2 checking accounts at 2 different banks) so I beat it to the bank to deposit more money. Well, we get there a little after 7PM and the office is closed with a note on the door saying to find our spot and SURPRISE #2 the office would be closed for Thanksgiving Day. The heat was on in the cabin so at least we were warm with no key to lock the door when we left and SURPRISE #3 no water at the outside faucet...Then SURPRISE #4 we found out the bathhouse was closed for the season. There was 1 other cabin occupied while we were there. So we trekked halfway accross the campground for the bathhouse...Thanksgiving morning we went to K-Mart and bought a porta-potti. Friday morning we went to the office to check in and we were told the bathhouse would not be opened. We also had to pay a $20 deposit for the cabin key (by the way did we want the key too!). They had also left a note on the door of the office that said the water would be off and on during Thanksgiving Week as they were upgrading the electrical hook-ups to 50 amp. "Please make sure your freshwater tanks are filled in case the water is off for a long period." I don't know about anyone else but we will never stay at that park EVER! Any complaints were answered with "I don't know about that, I just started working here". What a way for your help to deal with angry customers! We camped here in a Campground Cabins.

We stayed here 2 nights in late September 2002. This is a paradise campground for kids. The many pools and playgrounds were great. The jet noise was noticeable but not a big bother. The sites were quite tight. It rained while we were there which made the campsite muddy. We got a corner lot, which was noisy, as people came in at all hours of the night. I really should rate this higher... we were there in the summer of 2002- I was not sure what to expect since some have mentioned the noise from the jets... Yes the jets were there, but not ALL the time and we found it more fun than not! I love the parking lot near the beach it was wonderful and the park itself was very nice. A lot of canadian people here. Our site was tight, but most sites were fine. Just be sure to mention the size of your trailer... We can not wait to go back to this resort and Virginia Beach... This is a pretty nice place to stay. Location is excellent and free beach parking or a trolley to the beach. Large, busy park with a lot going on. They have plenty of activities but the real attraction is the beach of course. 4 swimming pools, gameroom, putt-putt, music every night etc. Yes there is constant jet noise from NAS Oceana...that was the best part even if it was Navy jet noise....GOOOOOO Air Force!!!!!!!!!

Visited during off season (February) when everything but restrooms are closed. Overall the park was very nice but it appears to be in need of long deferred maintenance to some of their recreational facilities. The noise of military jet aircraft on final approach over CG and some longterm residents who where motorcycle enthusiasts providing their version of "rolling thunder" did make it quite noisy at times, but not late at night. We camped here in a camper.

Very helpful staff. I had lots of questions and they had all the answers. The park is close to shopping and the beach. I found the sites to very level and some have shade. Overall the park is very clean, quiet and well maintained. The only reason I did not rate it a 10 was lacked cable. I highly recommend this park and will stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Agree with others as to this being a great campground, but I found the bathhouse facilities to be good rather than dated. The staff are the friendliest and most helpful I have found. Quaint little park exactly 2.5 miles from Atlantic Ocean. Located right next to Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge. Great for kayaking, jet skiing, fishing, and just cruising the water. Just another few miles and the stores available are numerous. Super Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Outback Steakhouse, ABC Store, 3 major pharmacies, PETCO, Kohl's, Veterinary offices, Golden Coral (cleanest I have ever seen), etc. In other words anything you need is right there, yet the campground is remote. The locally owned seafood restaurant Margie and Rays is a must for seafood lovers. The park itself is a little aged but undergoing lots of work. Lots of friendly people to help and hang out with. Oh, and Williams Mobile RV Repair comes here regularly and they do excellent work if you need them. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed 1 week at this resort with Coast to Coast. The location of the park was ideal. Roads are paved with most sites grass and/or gravel. Staff was very helpful. The site assigned to our motorhome was too narrow with many low hanging trees. They provided us with a list of available sites, and we chose one more suitable. The back-in site was on a stream running through the park but it was not level. We did have some flooding problems when it rained for 3 days. Since this was not peak season, they were not crowded and we had plenty of room on either side of us. We would stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This is a Coast to Coast campground, so we paid $10 a night with a $2.00 electric user fee, so $12.00 total a night, stayed 7 nights. All roads in campground are paved, bath houses are nicely spaced all through the grounds, clean and usable, but a little dated. All sites are back ins, with lots of sites backing up to the river/streams that run through the grounds. WI-FI is free and worked well, no cable, but antenna reception was very good. This campground is 25 minutes from Virginia beach resort area, with lots of shopping on you way to the resort area. Going the other way out from the campground, the ocean is 5 minutes away in Sandbridge. We would definitely stay here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Large Coast to Coast campground near Virginia Beach. All in all very nice, and we would return. Free wifi, 3 large pools, playgrounds, fenced dog run. A few things to keep in mind though. Even though the address is Virginia Beach, you are 20-30 minutes from the actual resort area. I would look for an alternate route to get here next time. Indian River Rd. is VERY narrow with no shoulders. I would drive a few extra miles and avoid that road. The grass at most of the sites was rather high due to the recent rains. Everything else was top notch. Very friendly folks, good electric voltage, paved roads and site pads. We camped here in a Motorhome.

I stayed here for a week. I was right on the canal to the Back Bay park area. It was great for kayaking. I could wash my RV here. The sites are large and the people in the office were very helpful and friendly. I would stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Spent four nights here with the wife and three boys. The rental boats are over priced but the campsites were huge compared to KOA and kids had a blast the whole time. The entire park lost water and power the first night...not sure why but only for three hours. Mosquito's...lots!!! Private beach was nice but crowded. Great bathrooms and showers. The sites are not paved, or perfectly level and the water supply is in the ground not on a post. Great pool but also crowded. Would definitely go again but not on a holiday weekend. This is a campground with potential, but real issues with the clientele. On the positive side, the location is nice and the facilities were cared for at acceptable levels. Having said that, you need to be a certain kind of camper to tolerate the craziness at the campground. If you are into confederate flags everywhere (including tattooed to the chests of the men and women who wander the campground), this campground is for you. If you are into loud music blaring from golf carts until 11:00pm each night, this campground is for you. If you enjoy watching stone cold drunken campers stumble around the campground while screaming and yelling, this campground is for you. If you like going to the beach and praying that the drunken boaters don't run into the kids who are swimming, this campground is for you. I have been to dozens of campgrounds and in my experience, this has the most "party like" atmosphere in VA. If are you looking for that type of experience, North Landing Beach Riverfront Campground should be your destination. If you are looking for something suitable for families, you might want to consider an alternative. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

My husband and I stayed 4 nights and absolutely loved this place. The staff we met were very friendly at all times. We usually stay at the Holiday Trav-L-Park but were tired of the jet sounds. Here we only heard a couple but not the loud jet sound. We love the peace and quiet of the country and this place had that. We were first time campers in a Cruise America rental motorhome. Due to some very bad traffic we arrived very late at 22:00. We had phoned ahead and the staff explained how to check in late. The information was here and we found our site without any problems. We only stayed for an hour the next morning but the comfort station was clean and functional. The park was quite empty and peaceful and the staff were very helpful in pointing out the best and quickest route to our next stay. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Camped with a group. They did not put the group together despite have the spots reserved in group's name. Men's bathroom soap dispenser's were not refilled all weekend even though staff were seen servicing restroom multiple times. Charged for rental of pavilion. Spliced electric lines were prevalent throughout the campground to sewer pumps. Some sites had sewer odor from pump location. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Camped here with a Good Sam Club. The pool was so cloudy and dirty that you could not see your feet. The pool test employee did not check the water on Saturday morning. The pool was full of unsuspecting people who thought the water was safe. In mid afternoon a person did test the water: the pH was way high and all other readings were out of tolerance. The pool technician did nothing to correct the pool water: said that chemicals would be added in the evening after the pool was closed. Not safe. We camped here in a Motorhome.

I have stayed at many better campgrounds. The tent sites were not clearly marked and had to walk through some to get to yours or people walked through ours to get to there's. We put up clothes lines to mark off ours to keep people from walking through. Ground cover for tents was horrible. Mulch is not good for under tents. The campsite was littered with trash old cans and just trash. Parking was far away from tents sites so everything had to be carried a far distance. There was one water supply to get water to wash dishes for many tent sites. The bathrooms only had three showers with one hook and no benches. The walls were green with mildew and shower curtains had brown stains on them and just looked gross. There was a pile of sand on one of the toilets that stayed there for a day and a half and I never seen anyone in there to clean the bathrooms. The pool was gross, I'm not sure what was going on with it. It had many stains on the bottom and much stuff floating on the top. Again never saw anyone clean the pool while I was here. The beach was littered with trash and cigarette butts with a sharp drop off into the water. The sand was almost black and the water was very dirty. While we were here the forensics team and the fire department showed up. Nothing was ever said to us. So I have no clue what was going on. We had three encounters with a CRAZY night security man. He likes to sneak up on you and scare you by looking into windows. VERY creepy. He also made comments regarding my 2 year old girl to my mother. Staff took forever to get with you while standing at the check out line at the store. There seems to be no curfew or lights out time with plenty of noise well into the night with no enforcement. Because of staying near the water, there was a ton of bugs here. People staying here were not friendly. I had one person carry on a conversation with me. I have camped at this park many times. It is always available, and the staff is the best that I have encountered. The price is a little high, but I enjoy the park, and it is close to home. The pool was clean, and the camp store is well supplied. The black flies can be bothersome. The beach is not really a beach, and you really do not want to swim in it, but the view is wonderful. I will return to this park. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

My only complaints with this park is the road leading to it. Princess Anne Blvd is a narrow two lane road with no shoulders. And if that isn't bad enough on most of the road there are deep ditches that could easily wreck a large class A RV.You have to keep a eye on your tow dolly also It could also veer into a ditch and wreck. It is about 17 miles to the campground down a narrow two lane road.This section of Princess Anne is the kind of road that if you turn down it in a large RV you're stuck as there are not many places, if any, to turn around if you decide to go back. Once there I couldn't find a satellite signal, and there is no cable. Most of the RVs here seem to be residents, and it is a pretty park with beachfront access to the inter coastal waterway, but who swims in THAT! Unlike the other parks in the area there is minimal jet noise that seems to plague most the parks in this area. Staff is friendly. We camped here in a Motorhome.

A great family campground with plenty for kids to do, a superbly maintained river beach as well. RV sites are level and roomy. We toured other campgrounds closer to Virginia Beach but found this one to be the best overall. We’ve stayed here 2x. Good clean beach, pool, playground, showers, and camp sites. One ‘needs improvement’ is the staff. On peak days (Thursday – Monday) you’ll have a line of customers out the door waiting on the one cash register while three other employees and a 2nd cash register sit idle. They don’t seem concerned with customer satisfaction or timely service. Train employees and this place is a 10. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

We loved this resort. It is about a 20 minute drive to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront and a 7 minute drive to Knott’s Island. If you haven't been to Knott’s Island or the outer banks it's worth a trip. We enjoyed a local winery suggested by the campground and it was wonderful. The campground is small and beautiful it offers a private beach and we enjoyed the pool - evidentially newly renovated. We checked in late - there was a 24 hour security and the employees we ran into seemed to be nice enough. We enjoyed their Deli -it's a full service Deli. This is a little out of the way, but that's what we love about camping the most. We talked to some other campers that camp there all the time and they just raved about it. It has a boat launch (we didn't use) and it sits right on the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway so you can fish - the sunsets were beautiful. Our children enjoyed the water balloon launching station. We will definitely be back. We peeked at one of the cottages and might try one next time. The bathrooms were clean and the security guard escorted us to our site late at night. We camped here in a Motorhome.

My score may not accurately reflect our like of this campground. Was hard to score. We had a great site on a canal and no direct neighbors. No grills but had fire ring and picnic table. Partial shade and level gravel sites. Not a whole lot to do for the kids. The bathrooms are very nice but are only cleaned once a day. They really need it twice. Only one paper towel dispenser and soap dispenser. Several toilets missing handles to flush and thus were quite disgusting. Manager was very nice but other staff in the store were not. Fire wood was $5 for small and $10 for large. We purchased the large and had plenty left after two days. Neighbors had large party and broadcast some NASCAR race late into the evening for all to hear. At other end of the campground someone was playing loud thumping music at 9:00 am Sunday morning. Campground has security but I guess he doesnt control noise. Nice fishing docks and decent beach. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Excellent campground tucked away in southern Virginia Beach. The sites are large and pulling in a breeze. The staff has always been friendly (we've camped there a few times) and very helpful. The beach is good size for the campground and the water is shallow allowing kids to play freely. Pets are always welcome, and the list of activities go on forever. They have a big pool, volleyball court, canoes and plenty of space to drop a line in the water to test your luck. In the summer they have movies and other activities in their new and spacious pavilion. We highly recommend this out of the way place with plenty of charm. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

People did not seem to be the friendly type. The water valve had to be dug out of the dirt to connect hose. There was a constant drumming sound we could here inside our trailer coming from the Security trailer most of the time we were there, even into the late night. If you stay there get some distance from security trailer. Sites are large in comparison to other RV parks we have been in. River beach is very shallow for a long way out, great for the kids to play in. Trash dumpster was a good distance from site and only one trash barrel located near the center of the camping area. Sited are sand and rock. We would return but only at a selected site. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Park was very nice and mostly well kept. The seasonal section lacked mowing and weeding. We were there a month and noticed the difference between that section and the frequent turnover section. The water is smelly but pressure is good. Nice shady sites but that does interfere with satellite. The laundry room needs a/c so the door can be closed to keep out bugs. Pool was great as was waterfront. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed here over Father's Day Weekend with 5 other family's and all I can say is WOW!!! I leave within 45 minutes of this campground and never even new it was here. The Owner is a real nice guy and extremely helpful. The sites are roomy compared to the other local campgrounds and we had 2 travel trailers, 2 pop ups, and 2 tents so we saw all of the different type of sites they had. The Pool area was very clean and they're was a life guard on duty. The river front tent sites were awesome and if I was tent camping that would be the most stay sites for me but I like my creature comforts so has to have a site with electricity and water. They also have a boat lunch so you can launch your boat and Jet Skis. The river beach is sandy and you can walk out a long distance and still not over your waist so the kids love it. The Rest Rooms are the cleanest I have seen in a long time. The only reason that I did not give the campground a 10 was the showers could have a bench so you can put your clothes on while you are showering and give you a private area to change, Really would like to have high speed wireless so I can stay connected so I can enjoy the campground and still get my college work done and the Office staff not all put a couple were very rude. Will I go again??!!! Sure you will this is now on our favorites list for places to get away for the weekend at. We camped here in a Tent Trailer.

Pro: A very nice ongoing remake by new owners of an older campground. RV sites have full 50A E/W/S hookups. Most RV sites are wooded, but several larger sites are more open and satellite friendly. Our rooftop Datastorm dish connected from site 55 on the first try. Nice sandy beach on the intracoastal waterway at North Landing River. Lots of wooded tent sites as well as beach front sites. Playground amenities include water-battleground with forts and launchers. Friendly and helpful staff, full-service camp store with adjacent swimming pool. About 20 miles along a scenic drive to Virginia Beach ocean front; about 27 miles to the big shopping complexes (Wal-Mart, etc., et al.) just off I-64 at Chesapeake VA. Con: Poor cell-phone connection. New Verizon tower under construction to the south, but probably not available for 2006 summer season. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

This campground is for military or DoD-Civ only. The park was a mobile home park at one time. The site have two cement paths for the wheels on your RV. They are all backin and level. All have 30 and 50 AMP hook-ups as well as water. Most sites have shade. The only set back with is park is, you are right in the landing path for the jet fighters. There are 300 jets there. I will return there again. It is a nice place with good people there. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

This is a military campground. This used to be a mobile home park and has been converted to a RV park. Sewer hook ups are in wierd places because of this. Beware of sites that flood. We always had a big puddle to step into when getting in/out of our rig and there was lots of rain. This campground has no cable TV or WiFi service and the rates are higher than some of the other local military campgrounds. Camp host was helpful. If you like the screaming sound of FA-18s, this is the place for you. I realize that this is a military facility, however, the military jets fly over (low) all day until about 10:00 pm and they are very loud. For this reason, we would only stay here again if we could not get into another military campoground when in the area. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

We liked this park for the low key and off the mainstream VA Beach tourism. The beach is across the street and was practically empty. Kids had a great time and the DW enjoyed the waterfront site. This was our fourth trip to this resort and our longest stay. We have never been disappointed in the cleanliness of the Park and the friendliness of the folks who full time and the other campers. Its location is ideal for short trips to the beach (crowded for Memorial Weekend) and fishing in the Back Bay. Not much to choose from in the way of restaurants and shops, but Sandbridge is a fairly small community. We did eat at The Baja, which is right next door. Good food, but you might wait a while for food and a table. For general shopping, we went to Red Mill, about 20 minutes away. Concrete pads make set up quick and neat while the waterfront sites make for an appealing back drop. We spent a lot of time at the #2 pool which was just 2 sites away. All in all, another great stay. Hard park to rate. It seemed 75% of the sites were park model Fleetwood trailers or travel trailers with skirting giving it a very trailer park like feel. There are beautiful views of the bay and the park is clean, but it is not up to the level of other Outdoor Resort parks we have visited in Hilton Head and Vegas. The park is also a long drive to VA Beach but just down and across the street from a very nice beach park. We camped here in a Motorhome.

I loved this place!! What a great way to experience the beach and stay where there is some sort of privacy. I always find that most places do not have trees because they are coastal. This place has trees and is grassy! The park itself is clean and over all, it was a great choice! I recommend it. No fires though: that kind of bummed-out my husband. But the beach made up for it! This is a RV resort where most of the spaces are full time residents. Some of the residents make their spaces available for rent. The roads are fully paved as well as the sites. There is grass around all the sites. Surprisingly there is a water drainage problem although the whole area sits on a finger of land with the Atlantic ocean on one side and a bay on the other. We had 3" of standing water behind our site for most of our stay. There is Wi-Fi, but getting a signal from our site was impossible. When we first arrived a large storm was brewing and for a unknown reason the entire bay was empty of water. It did return in a few days, but the bugs remained all the time. Dusk is thick with gnats, and spiders abound. A great view of the ocean is available from most spots. We camped here in a Motorhome.

In reading a review from June 2007, a reviewer wrote they had visited this resort, fell in love with the Sandbridge area and purchased site #47 while there. Well, the majority of these sites are occupied by park models which are extremely well maintained and the sites are beautifully landscaped (with NO JUNK) visible around any sites. I digress, back to my first sentence. We chose site #47 to camp on and let me say, "it was pure heaven". Ok, more to the point, I'm green with envy. This is a gorgeous resort where you purchase your lot and either stay on it permanently with a park model/your own RV or rent your lot when you're not here. We backed right up to Back Bay with a very large lawn (yes I said lawn), double concrete pad which accommodated 2 vehicles side by side and of course, your RV. Views were awesome with a constant breeze but not so much you couldn't keep your awning out. Wi-Fi is mainly at the office lounge, although maybe if you were closer to the office you could get it at your site, we could not but this was absolutely not a problem. They do have excellent cable TV service, 50amp service and paved roads although they are somewhat narrow. The turn around at the very end of the resort was an extremely tight turn around and I didn't think we could pull it off with a 36' travel trailer and 4 door pick up truck but with help from a permanent camper we just got it turned around. It was rough going. If the owner of site #47 reads this review and ever entertains the thought of selling, please write it here in a review so I will know. We would certainly give it serious consideration. Highly recommend this resort and that's saying a mouthful because we normally don't care at all for a campground with mostly permanent sites. THIS IS THE EXCEPTION!! We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

This place is beautiful! We camped on an interior site and while we didn’t have a direct water view, we had no trouble getting a glimpse of the water and the beautiful sunsets. The sites were all flat, concrete pads and the grass was well manicured. The pool area was very clean and relaxing after a day at the beach (which was only a short walk away). It definitely did not have a “campground feel” to it but more of resort/condo complex (but in a good way!). Restaurants were only a short drive and the boardwalk area of Virginia Beach was about 20 -25 minutes. Great place to ride your bike. Back Bay Wildlife Refuge is a mile or so down the road and it also had some great bike paths. We loved staying here! What a great vacation. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

This is one of the nicest campgrounds that I have ever seen. The majority of the campground is occupied by seasonal campers who own their sites. There must be really strict guidelines about the upkeep of the sites, because they were all in great shape. Our site overlooked the “back bay”, which was breathtaking. Our neighbors, each of which were owners in this community, were very welcoming and helpful. Our site was large and had cable TV, sewer and both 30 and 50 amps hookups. It even had a boat dock. The pools were small, but well maintained. Frankly, why use the pools when you have an amazing public beach (on the Atlantic, not the bay) no more than 2 blocks away. We will be back many more times. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

We enjoyed our stay and we will plan a return visit in '08. The concrete pads were reasonably level and well maintained. The staff was very helpful and courteous. I'll take a half point away for the slight deterioration of the 2nd pool bathhouse. The FMCA discount is the only one they recognize, and it is a bit on the pricey side. But, we were just tickled to be at the beach and have a quality RV site. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This park is very well maintained and manicured. It is compromised mostly of seasonal and rental trailers. Fellow campers and the staff were very friendly. However, being a family with children, we found there to be a lack of on-site activities. Basically, there are the 2 small swimming pools, and that is it unless you have boats, sea kayaks, or Sea Doos. What we assumed was a once lovely view and walk to the beach is now obstructed by the construction of a giant resort complex across the street that does not fit in at all with the quaint environment of the Sandbridge area. Campfires, one of the things we enjoy most when camping, are not allowed. For those who like the rustic, natural feel of camping, this park is not for you. We will probably not return. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

We really enjoyed this peaceful and relaxing campground. It is one of the nicest campgrounds we have ever visited. I loved the concrete driveway and pads. It did rain and thunderstorm while we were there, so is was nice not having to deal with the grass and mud. The 2 pools and hot tub were very clean. The restrooms were extremely clean and had air conditioning. How nice! My mother and father-in-law stayed in one of the rented campers. They really loved it. Very clean inside. Furnished very well. They didn't want to come home! There was a really nice breeze from the water! We will hopefully visit again some day and will recommend this campground to others! We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

This is the most beautiful and well cared for resort that we have been to. The staff was very friendly, and even though we saw lots of golf carts roaming around, everyone was respectful and it was VERY quiet. We had two very large sites right on the bay - the sunsets were amazing. Each site had a large deck overlooking the water; perfect for relaxing and enjoying the scenery. The beach was very close, and wasn't crowded at all. The pools at the resort were very clean as well as the bath houses. Our only complaint was that there was only one shower in the bath house. Overall, this place is very clean and very pretty. We would definitely stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This is a very quiet and well maintained establishment. The sites are level, concrete pads and are well marked. Restroom cleanliness was of "surgical quality" and set a new standard of excellence. The grounds are well manicured and are surrounded by Back Bay. The ocean is within walking distance and a municipal park with ample parking ($3 fee from 9AM-5PM), two bath houses and picnic pavilions are approximately .2 mile south of the Resort gate. A welcome change from other resort area spots that feature hordes of teens, unsupervising adults and hundreds of speeding golf carts! Only one small problem during our stay. Red ants. They stirred about the rear of our site and got in the RV. The management expressed amazement in my discovery and obviously had no means to eliminate the pests. Had they done so, my rating would have been a 10. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This is a beautifully maintained RV resort. We had no difficulties with a 40' motorhome
backing into #105. The site was on the canal with a view looking out onto the bay with absolutly georgeous sunsets! The lots, trailers and motorhomes are all well maintained. Trash is picked up every morning. Special stands contained doggie dropping bags and a disposal container. Everybody we saw was meticulous about cleaning up after their pets. Some permanent residents have golf carts but there were no children zooming around - everything was very quiet. There were very few children - mostly this is an adult community. The entrance is gated and the staff was friendly and helpful in pointing out restaurants, etc. The pools were not yet open - but the hot tub was in full use and was very clean. The ocean is about a block walk from the entrance to the resort. Because our site was on the backside of the resort this made for a longer walk to the ocean. The only negative was the roads getting from I64 to the resort - tight, small and sharp curves!! Go slow and watch for mailboxes hanging out and deep ditches along the sides with no shoulders on much of the road. But the resort was well worth the time it took to get there. We will certainly come back again. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This was our second visit to this park and we will return. Though we arrived after the
office closed, an employee who lived nearby was watching for us and was at the office in less than 5 minutes with a cheerful welcome. We were allowed to select a site and were given good directions. The interior roads are just a little challenge, but no problem if you take your time - even in the dark. The sites are well marked and beautifully cared for. The cable service was the best we've seen in a campground. Our site was easy to get into - we pulled straight in onto the concrete pad and had a waterfront view, a private dock, and 15 steps to the bath-house which was extremely clean. There is a boat ramp with access to a wildlife refuge for paddlers and fishermen. The refuge has hiking trails and biking is easy around the area (very level). There are a couple of restaurants close by and the Virginia Beach Resort area is just a half hour away. The number of transient sites varies since this is primarily a residential park, but the permanent site owners are very friendly and welcoming. No open campfires are allowed due to local regulations. The park is gated and secure. We didn't use the hot tub, sauna or indoor pool, but they looked great. Open all year. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Loved it! Pure peace and quiet. No square dances, or theme night entertainment. No Ice cream socials. It just a place to go relax. You can walk to the ocean in about three minutes. There are 2-3 restaurants within 5 miles ( one next door). There is a big state park/ wildlife refuge a mile away. Site were large and level. We will be back! We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Having been to the best - Ft. Wilderness Campground in Disney - I can't rate any resort a 10. I did, however, really enjoy my visit at this resort and will be returning every chance I get to go to the beach. The resort was quiet and clean. Our 35 foot motorhome fit quite nicely on the concrete pad. Our site (#186) backed up to a water canal, had a well maintained picnic table with a nice grill (one that I would actually consider using). The sites have enough privacy for my liking. I particularly like this resort because I can walk to the the beach (1 block away from the entrance of the resort). The beachfront is not very large but I prefer it to the atmosphere at the boardwalk beachfront in Virginia Beach. Please note that my husband and I are past the point of needing a campground that entertains children. This resort doesn't have all the hype that might attract families with children. Beyond the pleasure of being at the beach or one of the pools at
the resort, there is not much going on (i.e., campfire, outdoor movies, etc.). It is peaceful, quiet, clean, extremely well maintained and very remote. It is a great place to unwind! I love it. We camped here in a camper.

Unbelievable!! The Navy did a great job building this brand new RV park right on ocean! All concrete level sites and full utilities. No cable TV yet but it's coming soon. Owner and park host are exceptional. Virginia Beach area has lots to do and beaches are world class. If you are military don't pass up this one! Bx and commissary are awesome. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the lady that does a superb job on the reservations. She always calls back if she's tied up when you call. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Another great military campground! It is 100 yards / walking distance to the beach. The campground is upgrading all sites to 50 amp and opening 41 more sites in Dec. The location is not far from downtown Virginia Beach. This may be one of our all time favorites! Like the old campground with beach access. It has concrete sites and some shade trees on one side of the campground. We will be here again! We camped here in a Motorhome.

This is a Military campground. Only retired or disabled military can go. Wonderful place! We feel like we found a gem, and it is on the ocean!! Private beach! The kids had a blast! We will definitely return! We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

10 minute trip to the beach by car. I stayed in March so it was mostly work campers there. There was construction of some sort going on around the bath house so the showers weren't that clean. KOA Virginia Beach This was our second stay at a KOA campground with our family and it was again an excellent experience. The location was a 3.3 mile bike ride along a paved bike path starting right at the campground to the Virginia Beach Boardwalk. For those who prefer motorized transport, the VA Beach shuttle rounded right through the campground every 20 minutes until 1 AM for $2 for an all/day fare. The kids loved the swimming pool with water slides and the jumping pillow was the ultimate favorite of ours (Not to mention that Mom and Dad had some jumping fun as well). The staff was extremely courteous and helpful. The campground was large and full on Labor Day Weekend but still didn't feel crowded. I would give this location a 10 except the Wi-Fi, although functional and free, was useful for extremely low bandwidth applications limited to email and Facebook and AT&T only had 1 bar at this location. Otherwise this park was fantastic and we will definitely camp here again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed here from May to Sept 2011. We had such a good time. Summershiners had activities planned for everyday. Water wars was the best! Two pools: one with 2 slides, jumping pillow fun for all ages. Staff was friendly and the managers are good people. Can't complain about the Jet noise, that's not controlled by the park. (Small price for freedom to me.) We will definitely be returning. Oh, and during the season, for $2 you can hop on the bus (picks up IN the park) and take it to the beach and back all day. Great place to spend the summer. A lot of memories were made this summer at KOA Va Beach. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Had a great trip with the kids (three boys). They had a lot of fun riding bikes. The shuttle to the Oceanfront runs frequently. Great pool for kids with slides and huge trampoline thing to jump on. Downers were the cost and size of the campsites. We did the pull through thing and it's a roll of the dice between narrow lot and super narrow lot! The staff is super friendly and that counts for a lot in my book. Would go again with a guarantee of a larger site and a coupon or two :) We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Made my reservations from the road. Was not able to log on their internet site for reservations and lost my bonus 250 points for not using the internet. It would not load. Using my brand new KOA discount card I called and asked for a 30amp back in. Reservation person indicated that she looked but was not able to find one. But took the reservation. At check in was assigned a 50amp pull through. After unhooking and set up looked at the bill. It was for the higher 50amp pull through with 10-15 30amp back ins right there empty. Went to the front desk. Everyone was very cooperative and the bill was adjusted and credit was given to my CC. One very important thing I missed. Using the KOA discount card you get 10% off. Very nice. BUT if you are eligible, the MILITARY DISCOUNT is 25%. If eligible please keep that in mind. Now about the Military jets. Way way to nosy! At least 40 took off or landed each day of our stay. All day every day up to 10:00 at night. The noise is very very loud and distracting. This is unquestionably the nosiest campground we have ever experienced. This probably will keep us away in the future. A nice campground that is almost all gravel with low spots to catch the rain. It does drain right in, but while and right after rain it is a problem. Most likely will not stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Made reservations in February for 2 RVs. Requested side-by-side sites. Arrived at 4:30PM and was sent to a MUD HOLE representing itself as a camp site with hookups. Went back and the uncooperative lady at the desk did find me another site that was better, but would not allow my traveling partner the EMPTY site next to mine. Sent him to another "standing water" site. The empty site next to mine was EMPTY all night! Lady did offer to refund my money if I would leave. I have contacted KOA corporate who replied and contacted the VA Beach KOA: they would not and have not replied. I would stay in a parking lot before staying at this KOA. KOA has been my preference for years. Other than that, this VA Beach KOA did have nice amenities for families and all the hookups worked fine. We camped here in a Truck Camper.

This KOA park was descent compared to others in the area. It has tons for the kids to do. For example, two large pools, one with a large slide. It had a bouncing balloon pillow so the kids as well as adults can do some jumping. The store was well stocked and had a great selections on decorative signs. The sites we were in, were in OK condition. Most were even but you were on some gravel. I highly suggest that you bring a surge protector with you. There were numerous electrical spikes and surges. My surge protector saved me. It stopped the surge from damaging my RV and it took the damage for me. It melted the 30 amp receptacle in the pedestal. I called to report the problem and maintenance was here with five minutes. They replaced the damaged receptacle and had me running in no time. The water pressure was not the greatest, but that was because the park was jammed with people. Wi-Fi service was good. I didn't mind some of the F-16 military jet noise. You hear it through out the day and it was bearable. I rather loved hearing our fighter jets from our U.S Navy flying around. The staff were very friendly and always willing to help. As for some of the northerners (CANADIANS) visiting, I can honestly say they were very unfriendly people with there rude attitudes. I would stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This park is OK but not a great value for the in-season dollar; it doesn't seem to be up to usual KOA standards, although some maintenance on the gravel interior roads and pull-through sites seems to have been done recently. We noted some new power pedestals as well, so electrical systems might have been recently updated. Clearly, more needs to be done to bring this park up to standard. The jets fly from Oceano NAS 8AM-midnight, but locals shrug that off as "the sound of freedom" (they sell "I Love Jet Noise" bumper stickers). We were just here for an overnight, so we didn't really explore the park. The pull-through sites just west of the office were heavily treed and we had to ask for a different site to get satellite reception. The pull-through we had was barely large enough for our motorhome and toad parked cross-wise in front (these are pull-through sites in the sense that you can pull in and then pull out, not spaces where you can leave a toad or trailer hooked up). Staff was generally friendly although some seemed to be in training (difficulty setting up our site and more trouble changing it), and we noticed several other arrivals changing sites during our stay. Wi-Fi is available per their web site but we didn't have a chance to try it. We camped here in a Motorhome.

We were disappointed at how primitive this park was. We often stay at KOA's, typically they are much nicer than this one. The staff was quite friendly, but the site needs some work. The pull through area is quite muddy and does not appear to be taken care of. There is only one dumpster and it is quite a hike from the pull through area. The one side of the park appears to have some permanent trailers: and these are quite old. Looks a bit more like a trailer park than a KOA. I don't think we will be back here. Jet noise here is not mentioned in other reviews. I don't know why since it is across the street from the other parks in this area. I'm not gonna go into reviewing facilities and road conditions because the earlier post are accurate. My site is a little small for a pull through 50 amp full hook up but there is enough room to keep my dolly attached and staff doesn't complain about parking in the field next to the bath houses. Staff is friendly and well mannered. The real rub for this and every camp in Virginia Beach is the Military jets. Today is my 2nd day here and they started flying at 9 a.m. and as i write this seemed to stop at about midnight. To be fair the flyovers aren't constant but go on all day. The intervals for flyovers are as few as seconds to several minutes when they occur. Staff claims they only fly on Mon-wed in season and taper off during the weekend. This is yet to be seen and I am here out of season so they may alter schedules and fly more who knows. The low rating is for jet noise alone. Otherwise the park seems fine and big rig access is a breeze. It's a shame that the jet noise spoils this area cause just a few miles down General Booth BLVD is a ocean front area with a strip and shops that reminds me of Southeast Florida. We camped here in a Motorhome.

We spent 4 nights at this park. The showers and restrooms are clean. The laundry is clean and has lots of machines that work well. There are two large pools that look clean and inviting another time of the year. The RV parking allows plenty of room on both sides, and is on gravel with some grass around. The grounds could use a bit more cleaning up after people leave. We had a pile of cigarette butts and burned trash remains in the grass where we were parked. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

The wireless internet only works if you are seated on the front porch of the campground store. For this price, there is no trash pickup at your site. The camp sites are small and cramped. They do keep the pool very clean but they close it at 8 PM. This campground is next to a Naval Air Base. If you do not like jet noise, don't stay here as the planes were very loud. I liked seeing the planes and they did not bother me, just a word of warning. This campground does not have a downtown parking area. That means everytime you go downtown you have to pay at least $5 to park. Other area campgrounds have a parking lot downtown for their campers. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

This was our first visit to Virginia Beach and I did some research on this campground. The reviews were less than stellar, but since it was the only thing available, I booked it for 2 nights. The cost was extremely high, it was $80 per night for a tent site with water and electric. The roads were in bad shape, there were ruts everywhere. Our site was small and in the direct sun, there was one tree on our site, and we could see the highway. There were no fire rings and the bathrooms were filthy. Showers were on one side and bathrooms on the other, instead of being attached. The camp store was nice and stocked and pool was nice, but crowded. One perk was the bus that traveled you to the inlet. However, that same bus made a stop at another park, which made me envious. The other park was spacious, clean and full of trees. We definitely can not recommend this campground, even if you are in an RV. The RV sites were small and very close together. We camped here in a Tent.

This campground needs a lot of work. The roads really are as bad as other posters described, and the general appearance of the premises is shabby. The bathhouses need updated, and the showers are odd. Even my kids complained about the showers, and that's a first. My particular site was actually fairly spacious, but I kept tripping over tree roots. The staff was friendly, and the kids enjoyed jumping on the big air pillow. The pool looked nice, but we didn't use it. We were only here three nights, and we spent most of the time at the beach or visiting friends who live nearby. The site we had was very tight. Had a 30' travel trailer with double slide out noted this when reserving a site. In order to open the slide outs we had to park with a large tree right in front of the entry door. Roots of this tree were about 4" wide which caused a real trip hazard getting in and out of the the camper. Tried to reposition camper but the site was too small and would not allow us any forgiveness. Our pickup truck was parked across the front of the lot sticking out in the road as well as into the site next to us. No fire pit not even room for one. Asked if we could move to one of the several open sites the next day we were told they were reserved. Understanding this was a holiday weekend we asked if they could do something about the large roots before some one was injured. They said there was nothing they could do and they were booked solid. A reduction in the nightly rate would have been a nice gesture. The roads were very poor. Pot holes and ruts everywhere. The bath houses and rest rooms were the worse i'd ever seen at a KOA. Two hours before checkout they turned the water off to the entire campground and never made effort to go around and let camper know of a problem. We will stay at the campground across the street on our next visit. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

This was our fourth stay here and there will not be a fifth. Each time we stay, the experience becomes worse. Roads are terrible with large potholes and gullies. I was told the tractor had broken, it is time to get it fixed. Restrooms were marginal at best. Office staff friendly, but other workers would not acknowledge you if you were on fire. Luckily it had not rained for a while, our site was nothing but bare dirt, easily could have been mud. This park needs a lot of work to bring it up to where it is worth $40/night. We arrived at the campground after 7:30pm on a Saturday night having previously called the facility to let them know we would be there late. A registration form and a map to our site were both available at the entrance as was explained to us. We found our site easy enough, but it had been raining in the area for two days and the site was very muddy with very little gravel to keep the feet out of the mud. There were two sets of men's showers. While one set was okay (a little messy, but fairly clean), the other was virtually flooded all around. There was a sign on the building claiming that the showers were to be cleaned between 8:30am and 9:30am each morning, at 10am there was no evidence of this. Our water and electric hook-ups were fine, but the site sewer hook-up was just an open pipe without any type of interface for the hose connector. The Wi-Fi connection was great. We will probably stay here again in perhaps better weather, but this weekend was a stark introduction for us first-time RVers. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This campground is located about 2-3 miles form the beach. There was a trolley that ran to and from the beach. The area here is mostly level and the campground sports several trees. This is especially true of the tent area. The site we have does not have a tree within 30 feet of it. There is no cable here at this campground. The camp store seems to have a good selection. The pools look to be clean and well kept. They have this jumping thing for a kid that is so cool I want to go and jump on it. It is huge and looks to be in great shape. There seems to be ample playground equipment and other kid type stuff. The laundry room was clean and in good repair. The game room was fairly large and offered several games to choose from. The bathhouses were in good repair and seemed clean. I used one of the showers and there was plenty of hot water. In addition, the showers were very private. There was even soap in the bath rooms and paper towels. In addition, there was a hand blower (drier) in the bathroom. The overall grounds were in good shape. The lawns were mowed, and trash pick up was timely. The Wi-Fi here was a little spotty. I had a slow connection some of the time. Other times the Wi-Fi seemed to just be down. The roads here were a mixed bag. Some of the roads were paved and in good shape. Other interior roads were gravel and were in a mixed state of repair. There were some rough places. Overall, the price could have been just a little lower, and I would have rated it just a little higher. We would come back to this campground. Rating of 8 plus is the rate I would give this place. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Rate was with KOA Gold (15%). At first I was surprised they did not offer a weekly rate, but after staying there, not sure anyone would want to stay that long. Can you say N-O-I-S-E? Turns out the campground is right under the flight path of fighter jets training out of a Naval Air Station just a couple of miles away. This campground is now owned and run by the corporate office of KOA and is not a franchise. The staff was warm and friendly and very helpful. We stayed in a rather large "rustic" site along the main road which offered quite a bit of room to spread out. The roads leading to this section and other sections were quite narrow with sudden turns. Driving anything but a car could prove quite difficult and if you make a wrong turn you may end up on someone's site. The roads need to be widened and smoothed out. Grassy area campsites were on the smaller side but I found this normal in high tourist area campgrounds. The staff worked hard to keep the bathroom facilities clean, but it seemed the other campers worked twice as hard at undoing what the staff had just cleaned, which made me realize what slobs my fellow campers were. There is no excuse for the mess and filth they made in the restrooms. I felt sorry for the staff cleaning them !! They worked hard at trying to keep them clean. The store was pretty well stocked, the pool was open and clean, the 2nd pool had just underwent repair and opened as we left. Overhead aircraft noise has been mentioned before, and yes it was loud when they passed over during the day, early morning and evenings were quiet, so I have no complaints about the noise. Great proximity to area attractions. Very little "critter" activity other than blackbirds and squirrel. My only complaint was that I cleaned up the site after we set up as the previous campers there left their litter scattered about and the campground could of been a bit more "active" in cleaning the sites when campers departed. I am happy I decided to give it a try and would camp here again We camped here in a Tent Trailer.

We live only 7 miles from this campground and have been here before but not sure if I will go back again. They have 2 swimming pools and when we made reservations no one told us one was broken and had no water in it. When we got there, all of a sudden the other one broke so its 98 degrees out and no place for the kids to cool off. The site we had was fairly level with some shade, grass, and was of good size. The Security came around often, was very pleasant and helpful. When I checked into my site a few hours after check-in time the site was dirty with trash from the previous resident, and I had to clean the site up prior to setting up. We had then ask them to come and pick up the trash, which they did in a timely manner. The Rest rooms were nasty with the floors dirty and a few of the toilets overflowing. They have a total of 4 different bath houses and I recommend that during the day they have the staff check them on a regular basis and spot clean if they need to be cleaned, instead of holding off until the next morning to clean them. I did not even check out the showers after seeing the bathroom, instead I drove the 7 miles back home to check the mail and took a shower!! The KOA is close to the beach and I am in hopes after the new owners get everything under control that this will be a nice campground once again. But right now it is a work in progress, and unless I see a drastic change in the way they do they're maintenance and cleaning of the facilities I will be going down the road to the Holiday Trav-L Park which is less then a quarter mile away, with a lot more activities. We camped here in a Tent Trailer.

Although most of the sites were pretty level, they could use some work. The first site we were given had a huge mud puddle that would be right outside of the door. I went back to the office and was reluctantly given another site. Office staff was not overly helpful or friendly. Security person made rounds about every 15 minutes, a nice feeling. The aircraft noise from Oceana Naval Air Station was bothersome at times, but this is not the fault of the campground. Two miles from the beach, but access is easy. Campfires are allowed, but fire rings are not provided. Some of the long term campers are a little rundown, (the vehicles and sites, not the people). Roads could use some work also, potholes in the paving and large dips in the gravel roads. Picnic tables need rebuilding. Might stay here again, but it would not be our first choice. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

We took advantage of the free night of camping from KOA to visit this campground and were very pleased. Our campsite was level and spacious and also close to the bathrooms. The staff was very warm and friendly. They also had nightly planned activities. We will definitely return! We camped here in a Motorhome.

Park is pretty run-down and it doesn't appear that anything is being done for upgrade. There are numerous sites that were flooded, but were unoccupied--I assume because it was off-season. There's strong potential these sites would not be pleasant if it rained during the active seasons. The site we had was on high ground with adequate space between sites and was very pleasant. There's plenty of openness for walking pets but no means to access the beach by walking. I don't recommend this park and won't stay here when I come back to this area. We camped here in a Motorhome.

We stayed here with 2 other familys on 2 adjoining sites. Hurricane Ernest or what was left of it cleared the area about 2 hours before we got to the campground. We live only 7 miles away but this was the planned gathering place for friends on Labor Day weekend. The sites were level and large. The bathrooms were old and dated and not all that clean. I only used them when the portapottie would not surfice. I did not even look at the showers after seeing the bathrooms instead I drove home and checked the mail and took a shower there. They have wireless internet but it has questionable reliability. The staff was helpful and polite. I would probably stay here again since I have a shower close by and my own toilet facilities but I recommend the staff take note and do some work on the restrooms. We camped here in a Tent Trailer.

We were very unhappy with our stay here. We mad reservation a month in advance and a asked to be next to our fiends. They also did the same, we were across the campground from them. The next morning when our friends site next to them was empty. We asked to move the said no! What made it worse is that the site was empty the rest of the stay. Our site was very small. It was hard to maneuver around all the trees. A huge challenge to move the camper to have the awning out. The staff was very RUDE and not helpful, even when at the gift shop. We had to listen to loud music till about 3 in the morning. We also had problems with the water pressure at times it would just drip out. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed at this campground for three days and had nothing but rain the whole time. There is no gravel just dirt which turned into mud with the rain. My rig was a mess with all the mud in a short time. Sites are not very level and close together. Bathrooms were clean and well maintained. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

We had perfect weather to attend a rally. The campground was clean. The sites, however, were no where near level. We had a full hook-up site they said was pull thru and could handle a 30ft. trailer. There were so many trees around it was like going through a maze. I ended up scraping the side of my trailer on a tree. Also, the sewer line backed up. Very frustrating! We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Last night of two weeks on the road and very disappointed in the KOA. Excessive nearby road noise and KOA is in the flight path of the Oceana Naval Air Station. We were placed in a tiny site in a long term use area of very poorly maintained trailers. Nice people but dirty site, uneven pad and way too much noise. Would not use this KOA again. We camped in a truck camper. We camped here in a Truck Camper.

Our family stayed here for 4 nights. Three of us stayed in our camper, and 2 more rented one of the cabins. The 2 that stayed in the cabins said they were eaten up with ant bites. There were several ant traps under each bed. The manager needs to spray or try another approach for the ant problem! My father-in-law went to shower and smelled something terrible. He checked one of the stalls and someone had messed on the floor! Both swimming pools were very dirty. We could hardly swim for the roaches and beetles getting in our hair. One of the pools had really green nasty water. The baby pool was also very dirty. I would not let my child in it! We went to wash our clothes the day before we left. Not enough washers and dryers! Their were 3 washer and 4 dryers that were broken. Also, if you plan on staying at this campground, be sure you take your ear plugs. The navy planes and jets soar through the air about every 10-15 minutes non-stop. They are EXTREMELY NOISY. We couldn't talk outside or barely inside your camper. It starts around 8:00am and one night they were still going at 12:30am. We will not be back!!! We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

We were put in to a long term area. The parking area for the site was a mud hole. We asked for straw to be put down to keep from sinking in the mud when we got out of the truck. Never got any straw and after 4 days were told we had to park either in the designated area or at the bath house. Water quality is poor. Water filter clogged after 3 days. Long term campers said they changed theirs every 2 weeks and the the better filters clogged much faster. When leaving the site we followed the exit route and were unable to manuever around the trees. Had to back up about 100 yards and go out the wrong way. The staff was not helpful and at time were just rude. If this had been the first KOA we had stayed at, we would not ever stay at another one. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

We did NOT camp here, rather we drove thru and checked the place out while in the area. What we found was very disappointing to say the least. The roads rattled our teeth in the Suburban. You can guess what that would do to your RV. Even though it was out of season the general impression we got was the place was well past it's prime and not being maintained. We won't be staying here. We camped here in a Motorhome.

We stayed at this KOA because of its proximity to friends we were visiting. The rate of $20
was off-season with the KOA card. The sites are poorly maintained - muddy with little gravel. There are many permanent residents and, at least in the off-season, only a minor attempt to keep cleanliness up in general. A camper next to us had trash scattered around their site and nothing was done or said to them by the staff over the period of 3 days we were there. I can only recommend this KOA for its location, but it may be better in the summer when a full staff is on hand. We camped here in a Motorhome.

The campground is very full during the summer season; reservations will be needed. The
staff is not always helpful, the showers are to few and always dirty. Your reservation may not be honored. The camp ground mixes tents with RVs at some of the sites. About one third of the sites have shade for RV's. The remaining sites are in an open field with worn out picnic tables and unimproved fire pits. The full hookup sites (water,electric & sewer) are not shaded and the next RV is very close to your rig. There were problems with the water delivery system while I was there; hours would go by without water and no explanation of when the water would be turned back on. I found that several of the staff were rude, and uniformed about their job such as how to use the computer reservation system. I had a very bad experience there and several fellow campers felt the same way. I won't return there again. We camped here in a Motorhome.

We recently stayed there with our club and found the park to be clean and well managed.
We were not charged extra for our dog. There is a wide variety of sites, some shaded and some open. If you have a large rig, the open ones would be better. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Convenient with free shuttle to the beach. Staff was friendly and courtious. The park had security at the main gate and was quiet. Very easy to locate from directions in KOA directory. We camped here in a camper.
