Stayed at this campground 2 times in one week. First time on the 15th of August where we were given a spacious site: gravel but fairly level. No problems. Came back again on the 21st and was given a site with concrete, which was nice however, the sites are extremely small. You can barely fit a picnic table between the sites or open up your awning if you wish to use them for fear that you'd hit your neighbor's rig. Also, the sewers aren't exactly in the best position. In one case, I saw where the hookup for the sewer was between 2 of the sites. Another problem on the 2nd trip, low voltage coming to the site. When we arrived, it was approx 105, in the red. However, the employees that work here said it was safe to use our A/C. We were not very comfortable running our A/C on such low voltage for fear of losing our A/C. We also requested a fire ring for our site, twice. It never arrived. The only way we'd probably go back is if we had a decent/spacious site. Otherwise, we will not be going back. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This place is a paradox. On paper (and in their physical presence), they are fine. However, there is a weird vibe here that seems to say, quite clearly: "Welcome to Candy Hill. Much of what you might need is subject to an additional fee. And we are happy to have you as a potential addition to our revenue stream." Yep, it's fairly clean and has decent sites (if inconveniently positioned hookups, requiring pulling out lots of hose and electric cable to reach). Showers are okay, etc. Want internet? You must sign up for an account with their affiliate that provides a "free hour." But they don't tell you that once the hour starts, the clock doesn't stop ticking. So if you go to the showers after a quick email check, like I did, you'll find your time has expired and you will be asked to pay a fee when you try to get back on later. I'm betting the campground gets a fee for every new account it signs up through their IP address. Questioning this, I was told that, "Marriott charges $10 for internet..." (Really? No Marriott I ever stayed at!) Need air for your tires? That'll be $1, please, so long as the timer doesn't run out, in which case you'll need another $1. Need a jump start? They are available for a substantial fee: electricity is pricey, I guess! And a diesel rig will cost you more for your jump start, so the welcoming warning sign tells me. Want cable TV? Not available, though on the way, as indicated by all the ditches I stumbled over. Given that I was told by the manager that I would pay $78 in nearby Hagerstown for a night at a campground, they are likely planning to increase rates when the cable is installed. Upon arrival I was offered a great bargain on a "steel fire ring." Marked down from $69, I could have this little beauty for a mere $49. ! For a fire ring, a hunk of steel? (Is that PT Barnum I hear??) In my frequent cross-country-educated RVing opinion, this place is worth $20 - $30 per night. No more. The bottom line. In the future, I will reroute to avoid staying at this place and feeling like a "mark" and a potential source of upselling revenue. Candy Hill left a sour taste in my mouth. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

The devil's in the details. This campground has all the right aspects to make it a top notch cg (decent staff, nice playgrounds, nice sites, etc.) but lost out due to some laziness. The staff was friendly, cg store was great, but that was it. To keep it simple, here's a list of rants that you can use to decide if these are important to you. Dirty bathrooms and showers, unskimmed pool, pool hours (closes at 8pm even though the sun is still up and it's 90+ degrees, and they do ask you to leave), no cable TV, no free WiFi, water hookups were on opposite side, and lastly and most annoyingly, it is right on the side of a highway. At $40 a night, these should not be issues. I know they can't do anything about the highway noise, but it was really loud and should be noted. The dirty bathrooms, dirty pools and stupid rules are inexcusable though. The cg sited insurance reasons for the rules but that still doesn't fly. Change insurance companies to please the customers if you have to. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
