Horse Thief Lake is a pleasant but modest state campground near the edge of the Columbia River. Campsites are gravel and the spaces are adequate. Water and electric are available at the premium sites. As it sits in the Columbia River gorge in an area popular with wind surfers you're likely to have windy days and breezy nights. We think $26.00 per night rate is high for what you get. We likely would not stay here again, primarily because the cost is not competitive with other campgrounds in the area. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Horse Thief Lake is the only campground within Columbia Hills State Park. Gravel sites are all back in, mostly level, but with no visual separation from your neighbor. Sites are separated by concrete posts. Each site has fire rings and picnic tables. Showers, as with all Washington State Parks, are pay for three minutes -- in this case 25 cents for three minutes. Of note is the short walk to the Petroglyph trail which is quite interesting. Also swimming and fishing in Horse Thief Lake. And for a special treat, visit in the Spring and catch the profusion of wild flowers throughout the Columbia hills -- can be awesome! We camped here in a Motorhome.
