Very small bath and showers. We had to pay key deposit and then use key to get in bathroom. You return key for refund when you leave. Each campsite had a wire "gate" with padlock. The sites seem to slant downhill. It was OK and convenient to the tourist attractions and was reasonable priced. It was nothing fancy We camped here in a Motorhome.

This campground is a decent choice if you want to stay in Beckley. We should have followed the sign to the campground directly onto Ewart Street and ignored the sign saying No Trucks. There are no impediments to big rig access on this road; although, the entry and campground road is tight. We enjoyed the coal mine museum and tour. It was OK for an overnight, but next time I would probably choose a campground in a state park or national forest. We camped here in a Motorhome.

The other descriptions made us tentative on this campground. We came in from I-64 going west and the gps took us through town to reach the campground. We unhooked when we reached the coal mine exhibition and checked it out before committing. We also wanted to see if the sites were long enough. No problem. The approach into the campground is a little steep and the left turn is sharp but we had no problem with a 45’ motorhome. The campground itself is very clean. The sites are asphalt pads. The hookups for some sites are in the rear of the site so unless you want to use multiple cords, look at that before going in. There is a locked wire on each site so if you need to change sites, you have to go back down to the office and get another key. No Wi-Fi. Good phone reception. Quiet. The sites are a little snug, but it wasn't crowded so it wasn't an issue. The coal mine exhibition is well worth seeing. Very interesting and well done. It's about a half hour drive to the New River Gorge Bridge. Would stay here again. There are a lot of fun outdoor activities in the area. We camped here in a Motorhome.

I have no idea how they expect you to find or get to your camping site. As others have stated, it is on top of the Exhibition Coal Mine. It is basically a cul de sac on top of the hill with a bath house in the middle. The spaces were level but very close together. You can not see the entrance until you pass it. The road leading to it is narrow, steep with some tight turns. I can't see how anybody could highly rate this park. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Great little RV campground. Flat, long blacktop pads. At some sites (ours) the campfire pit was too close to adjoining rigs to use. Great campground for local travel. Very friendly and welcoming host. Bath house, while clean, could use more hooks, shelving, and bigger sinks. I would camp here again and recommend this location to others. We did not have time to visit the coal mine. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

The campground is directly over the Beckly Exhibition Coal Mine. Checked in at the Exhibition Mine Camp store. The people were very friendly and helpful. We walked our dogs through the surrounding neighborhood, and got to meet and talk to Beckley residents. If you stay at the campground, you get a discount on the Exhibition Mine tour. The only reason I didn't give it a ten was lack of 50 amp, but our Cheater Box worked just fine. We camped here in a Motorhome.

We only stayed one night and never looked around town. This city owned park is small but OK. Most spaces have trees, a few are satellite friendly. Sites are level and clean. We never felt unsafe. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Best thing about it is the location if Beckley is your destination. However, it is very hard to find from the freeway. We camped here in a Motorhome.

I stopped here for a layover with a 38'. The campground is very small; a cul de sac at the top of a paved hill...very steep hill with a left turn in the middle of it...if I made it, you can too! Just walk the hill though before you commit. The sites were fairly level, back-ins, clean, paved, shaded, with hookups to the rear. The campground is on the edge of town so don't expect country quiet, however, things were tolerable. Issues were the hill coming in and lack of clear directions to the campground from the coal mine exhibition for after hours check in. The administration was very nice and helpful. Check out the exhibition. It is well worth the time and money. You can better appreciate what the men, women, and children from WV (and elsewhere) have done to power this country over the ages...and what they have given (beckleymine.com). We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a city park campground adjacent to a city park with pool, and next to the Demonstration Coal Mine. Back in a neighborhood off the highway, down some hills. Heard quite a few sirens, maybe cops or ambulances, during our one night stay. The sites have cable TV across each backin and they unlock it when you get here. Not a real comforting experience. Didn't have time to visit the coal mine, but it looked interesting. We camped here in a Motorhome.

The showers and restroom were clean. The hookups were terrible. Our first two assigned spots had broken handles on the water. The sewer was at the far back end of the sites. The water ended up under the trailer so we had to hook up before we backed all the way in. The power was also at the far back on the opposite side of most hookups. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

The person that did the last review is correct in that there is a steep hill and hard corner to the left. The road coming in to the Exhibition Coal Mine is narrow and some crooked. I was told to come to the Rahall Company Store first. I checked in, paid the deposit for the key, unhooked my tow vehicle and was able to make it up to the campground without any problems in my 38 ft m/h. Big rigs come in and out pretty often. One thing was odd: I could not find the water and sewer hookups. It turned out they were under the rear of my m/h. It is very nice here. The only thing I didn't like was several barking dogs that lived somewhere down the hill. It is conveniently located for the tour as well as anything else in Beckley. We camped here in a Motorhome.

The person who designed this entrance should be shot. You travel down narrow, one lane, Ewart Ave in this city. The sign for the campground is COMPLETELY obscured by a tree. You don't see the sign until you've passed the entrance. Even if you did see the entrance, it requires a sharp, acute right turn that is difficult or impossible. Next is a climb up a very steep hill with a nasty left turn at the top and steepest point. No one is working at the office in the campground and each site is locked with a wire barrier. You must travel or walk a block away to register and pay a $5 deposit for the key to unlock your site. NEVER AGAIN. We camped here in a Motorhome.

The directions to get to the site are not easy. Make sure you know where you are going first. There is a steep hill to get up to the site with no turn around if you meet someone coming down hill. There are only 17 sites to park, they are all back in. Lots of trees. The host was nice, waited for us to arrive even after they were officially closed. We stayed here one night so we could go to Bridge Day in Fayetteville. We camped here in a Motorhome.

A very cute circular campground with 17 sites and the bathrooms in the center. Quiet and wooded but only a few miles from highway. Sites 13 through 17 even offered a great satellite view for TV and Motosat internet needs. I could have stayed here a few weeks. Very adorable. We camped here in a Motorhome.

A good overnight place to stay. Inexpensive, but no frills, however, there is a large shopping area about 4 miles north. Bath/shower house was older but clean. Located on the hill above the coal mine exibition and museum (being renovated when I was there). Would stay there again if visting the Beckley area. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

While functional, this is NOT a destination campground. Street access is narrow and twisty. The campground itself, sits high on a hill; toads need to be disconnected at the bottom before going up. There is no cable or WiFi and the mine exhibition is closed until April 2008 for renovation. Electrical service is maxed out at 30 amps and all connections are at the rear of the back-in site, so make sure you have a long sewer hose; I needed to add 20 feet to my existing 20 foot hose as the sewer was about 30+ feet from my motorhome. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This is a 'campground' connected with the coal exhibits. Check-in at the exhibits office then pull out of the park, go east then up a big grade. Be sure to unhook at the office and do the reverse when leaving. I was on site 5 - no satellite TV - big trees. But it looked like sites 12 and 13 should be able to get satellite TV. When checking in you get a key which unlocks a cable across your pad. $5 deposit which is refunded when you turn it in. It is also used to unlock the bathrooms - which I did not use. There is a steep path from the park to the exhibits - look at the top of the hill for the path. I did not find it until I left - not marked. I was planning to stay at the WalMart until I spotted signs to the park. It was OK for one night. Price was right. We camped here in a Motorhome.

We spent three nights here and it was a nice quiet park. It's located in the city limits at the city park, the park contains a pool and water slide in season. There is a coal mine here that offers tours which includes an old mining town and pioneer town along with a youth museum, all for one price. The site are a little small but there were 6 or 7 big class A's in there while we were there and they had no problems getting in or out. It's about 3 miles off of I-77. We will stay here again next time we are in the area. Five years full timing. We camped here in a Motorhome.

8 miles from town on narrow winding road, with a few steep spots. Roads are paved with narrow gravel sites, which need help to level. Most sites have rigs there for the season with a few overnight sites left. Power and water were good, cell (AT&T) was weak. We would probably look else where. We camped here in a Motorhome.

If you can find your way, the campground was clean but the sites are very narrow. With an antenna, we were able to receive three channels. The vast majority of trailers (we saw one other motor home) appeared to be long term residents with lots of young children. The narrow road coming in is 9 miles of twists and turns including a 5% downgrade. (Hot brakes and bad nerves) DO NOT follow your GPS because you may never be seen again. If you go here, you are on your own. Never again. We camped here in a Motorhome.

First of all, this site is very far away from everything on a very narrow road. The sites are very close together. There is 1 shower in the ladies restroom and there are 100 sites. The restroom was not very clean at 5PM. Would not stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.

A very nice park but is too expensive for what you get. We requested a 70 ft pull through and got a 40. We stayed hooked up as the lady said lots of campers do for over night. Worked for us. Sprint wireless card was useless and there's no WiFi. Sites were so close together our slide almost touched the neighbor's canopy, will try to find a different place next time. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

We do love this lake and the camp sites are nice. However, they do need to enforce a sound ordinance. There were a lot of loud motorcycles and vehicles with loud exhaust systems driving in and out of the campground during what should have been the quiet hours. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

We were going to spend only one night so were happy to see all sites are pull-thru. BUT we hardly had room for our 38’ motorhome, much less the toad. As others have noted, sites are extremely tight and there is no shade. The young man who checked us in didn’t have a clue; had to hunt for a map of the park, then gave us one that had been marked up for at least 4 other campers. The only thing going for this park is that it is better than the coal mine campground. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This is a nice little campground with a multitude of water activities on a beautiful lake. The clientele were very nice and well mannered considering there were several hundred adults and children there over the Labor Day weekend. If you a local this is a great place. However for visitors, the 10-mile trip over a narrow, winding road is not worth the aggravation. There are few choices along I-64: many of which are state parks with no reservations and in some cases no utilities. I will not go back because I thought the trip to the park as unacceptable. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This campground even had a sign on the interstate so thought we would overnight here. It was 9 miles off the interstate down a very narrow hilly road. Sites are very close together, there are several people that appear to be permanently sit up. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice out of the way location BUT VERY TIGHT SITES at lest you can hope the camper next to you does not have slide outs, and DO NOT bring anything over 40ft even if they tell you they can handle it! We camped here in a Motorhome.

Not a bad place, but a typical county park...most of the lots were filled with locals using the park as vacation property; most of park was seaonals, but there was room for a few transiants. Facilities were clean and in good repair. We stayed only one night, after a long day of driving...didn't even unhook toad. After dark, it was quite and peaceful. The road to the park is uphill and winding, but not too bad...if were are in the area again, we might stop again for a "one-nighter" We camped here in a Motorhome.

The campground has a very nice setting, but the sites have no trees. There is a staff problem, and no one was there when we arrived on a Thursday. It seems to be staffed only during the day on weekends. The skunks were gone. The restrooms were quite clean, contrary to earlier reviews. The showers are timed, but you can keep pushing to keep the water going. Park away from the front of the park to avoid the whine of the sewer treatment plant. This place is quite nice for the price. Be sure to visit the Exhibition Coal Mine if you are in the area. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

The park itself is very large and very nice, though separated out into sections several miles apart. The RV section is crowded and wide open (no shade), with RVs right on top of each other. We reserved a 50-amp site and that was the site we parked on when arriving. Problem was, no 50-amp service there -- only 30. Notified management and they said their was nothing they could do -- they were full. There was also a problem with skunks while we were there. Lots of them. We saw as many as 5 at one time, in the RV area. We even had one under our RV. They sprayed different animals each night. Notified management of that and they again said their was nothing they could do. The playground at the park is nice, and the lake is very nice. Not much close by -- have to drive about 20 minutes to get anywhere, but it's a pretty place. The road up is a very winding mountain road, but we managed without any difficulty in our 37' fifth wheel. We will be going back to this park in the future, and hope they have some of the problems fixed. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

We absolutely love this campground. The layout and scenery are both excellent. We are new to RVing. Just started last year and have been here a couple times. Campground is approximately 9 miles from Beckley. The Lake Stephens Campground offers 100 RV Campsites and 27 Tent sites. The Camp store, located at the camp area entrance, offers ice, wood, propane ,and camping basics. The RV Camp area has shower house, play area, basketball, and full hook-ups. The Tent Camp area is located next to the Camp store with shower and restroom facilities. Each site offers parking for two vehicles, tent site, and picnic table. Campground is opened year round with electricity the only utility available in RV campground October 15 to April 15. Campground stays are also limited to 14 days during this time period. Campground fees are also reduced during this off-season period.

This "RV park" is really a trailer park with a few RV hookups. The redeeming thing about it is the fact that it is easy access on/off of I-77/I-64 in Beckley, WV. It sits at the top of a big hill with a winding road getting up to it, but my 37' 5th wheel made the short trip without any problem. The park is very small, and is mainly filled with permanent campers, but they found space for us. The sites are full-hookup with 50-amp power, water and electric. Don't look for anything fancy, because it's not here, but it is a convenient location and the owners are extremely friendly. We will use this campground again when we find ourselves in this area (we travel full time). Much more accessible than Lake Stephens (though Lake Stephens is much nicer) and much nicer than the Raleigh County Armory (though the Armory may be a little more accessible). We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

This park is now closed. We have stayed here in the past so we took our chances and showed up with no reservation. We found the electrical boxes and water faucets have been removed, and the sewer outlets filled in and covered. We called the armory office and they said management decided to close it because the electric needed upgrading and the park wasn't bringing in enough to justify the repairs. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

OK place to spend a couple of days in the Buckley area. This is a black top parking lot with 20 and 30 amp electric, sewer and water hook up. Be sure to check the electric as I found miswired plugs and some of the 20 amp outlets were dead. We stayed 3 nights and had no problems. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Don't let their website fool you. Almost nothing works here. We had a "reservation" for a 30-amp site with water, electric, sewer. When we arrived we couldn't find anyone so we simply started hooking up. About 1/2 way through we realized the water wouldn't work. We tried a bunch of different sites and none worked. Then we discovered the electric didn't work. I finally found someone in the office and they said the water has been out for about 6 months and the electric on the lower level (they have 2 levels of RV parking) has been out for a while too. If you simply need a place to park, this is it. If you're looking for something else try the campground in Beaver, about 3-4 miles away. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
