A small CG but very nice. The owners were very nice & attentive. A large percentage of seasonals & permanents. Some of them looked a bit run down. The road is a one-way and very narrow. Would stay again.
Nice place. But sites are very small and close together. Bathrooms and showers get dirty quickly. Can't bring in wood from outside and they charge outrageous fees to purchase wood for a fire. Tenters played music much too loud and too late: way past quiet hour. Was quite obnoxious during the day as well.
Some sites need a bit of leveling and gravel. It had just rained and the grassy areas got extremely muddy quickly. Sad that there is little camper etiquette and manners. People (adults as well as children) constantly cutting through our sites even as we sat at our campfire. Requested that they not cut through, but that didn't stop them. Do NOT cut through occupied sites!
We have camped here a number of times and it seems like its gone down hill a bit. We made repeated requests to have bathrooms cleaned and they just did not seem to be getting it done. A number of sites had trouble with water pressure and the water hookups were making loud squealing noises each time the water inside the rig was used. A problem for the folks next to us in tents in the middle of the night.
This place was a bit pricey for being off season. Only a few sewer sites available: our site did not have sewer. Quite a lot of seasonals but they seemed to be 'true seasonals' without too many tacky lawn ornaments. Someone that lives down the road a bit seems to have an objection to this cg. Every time they drive down the road they blow an EXTREMELY LOUD, obnoxious air horn from their truck at any hour of the day. May return to this cg but there are others available nearby that are less expensive. Bath house has NO HEAT so remember this in the spring/fall chilly weather! Bathroom was not clean but not exceptionally dirty either. Maybe I visited just before cleaning time?
If you like 'run down seasonal campgrounds' then this is the place! T here were a couple of seasonals that were kept up very nice. Sites were SMALL to say the least. Sewer connection was higher than my rig and there is NO dump station at all. Bath house was 1/2 mile away: had to drive. Rate was out of season: outrageous prices during the season! Bath house was new and clean but will not return.
This cg was very nice. Would have given it a 10 if sites weren't so close together. Quiet hours are 10-8 and no one broke this rule. So very nice and quiet! Outside temperatures were high 90's so most folks stayed inside with cool air. The staff we encountered were VERY nice. Easy to get to off Rt 64.
Was surprised that the people near us ignored QUIET hour. Especially since they were a church group and were NEXT TO THE CAMPGROUND HOST!! Rangers came by often and didn't make the group follow rules that the rest of us needed to follow. Including parking on the grass and road so other cars could not pass. Also got tired of everyone cutting through our campsite. A reminder to campers that have forgotten - DON'T CUT THROUGH SITES - it's rude. One woman stopped herself only during our mealtime.
We were with a large group of friends near the outdoor theater. We camped for 2 consecutive weekends. The nearest bathhouse had one of the two toilets out for BOTH weekends. Also, the property that is next to the campground is a DUMP. It has debris and junk spread through the area next to the cg. Also, it seems that QUIET hour does not exist. Our neighbor ignored the late hour and blasted his TV, then some teens in golf carts (rented?) and ATV's were tearing up the open field at a very late hour. No security?
Mostly this was a decent campground, but expensive! The bathrooms were cleaned but should be cleaned twice a day: they really needed it. We were in a "large" site: not sure why they considered this "large". It was not large: was actually on the small side. The site next to us had their fire pit (not moveable) within 5 feet of our rig. Not a comfortable feeling. It would have been nice to have an adult pool but it was a ridiculously heated 92 degrees! Check-in time is not until 4pm and check-out time is by 10am so you really miss a whole day. This is a lousy policy.
Overpriced and very poor design in this campground. It's like the electric & water hook ups were an afterthought. In loop C the electric & water are shared with other sites. Shouldn't be a big deal but the hook ups are at the road - not in back! You MUST bring extra lengths of hose & electric cord (or make the trip to WalMart). Tough sites to back into with many, many trees left in odd places. Water in the shower was SCALDING HOT! Watch out!! Quiet hour was enforced but blaring loud music for 4 hours before quiet hour was allowed. Never know what jerk will end up next to your site! Note - we brought a dump tank and were told to dump the night before leaving. It's a good thing because with only 1 dump station it can take 2 or 3 hours waiting to dump.
This cg gets only a 5 due to the bathrooms. They were very dirty and had no soap! The Chester loop was beautiful although we had quite a difficult time getting backed in to our site because of two tree stumps blocking our angle (our rv closed is 22 feet long). We were lucky that our rv holds 45 gallons of fresh water. We filled up in the Chester loop before getting to our site and as we were packing up we ran our of water! We will likely camp here again.
Would have ranked this campground higher but there are a number of issues that need to be addressed. 1) they let WAY TOO many people into the pool/waterpark. The staff seem to allow people (including adults) to rough house in the very crowded pool. Occasionally the life guard will blow the whistle at the people rough housing but no one ever was asked to leave the pool area. 2) Some families (not campers) are using the pool as a very cheap babysitting service. There were at least 5 pool rescues of children by lifeguards in a 45 minute span. Then there were no adults around to receive the children when the lifeguard brought the kids to the side of the pool. These lifeguards have a really tough job and they are only teenagers! The situation for not having parents supervise kids is extremely risky for this state park. A number of times an announcement was made on the loud speaker that a child needed to meet their mother/father/uncle at the gate to be picked up. 3) People at campsites use other sites as cut throughs to other areas like bathhouse, dock and trails. 4) People are taking dead wood from the forest area and burning it at their site. 5) Quiet hours were not enforced on Sunday night at all. 6) The water at the sites had a funny smell. Many in our group noticed it. Reason?? This campground is very nice overall and we will likely camp here again.
The two reasons this campground rates as a 5 are: it's too close to Rte 30 and is VERY noisy because of the constant traffic, and there is a problem in the bathhouse near the office - the sewer gases are not vented properly and the bath house stinks! Otherwise the entire campground was very, very clean (including the bath houses). They make you sign a paper that you will clean up after your pet or they will bill you. Not much for kids to do at the campground.
