This is an expensive park, at least by our standards. Then in addition to the high rates, they have Wi-Fi available for $5 per 24 hours, and charge to use the showers. For the first time ever, we almost got refused the Good Sam rate because we had a membership card and not a recreation card. They are obviously in a choice place because they are nearly full nearly all during the tourist season. The only spot that we could reserve for our travel trailer was one where if you backed in, your utilities were on the wrong side. They have a number of these sites made for pull in frontwards small motor homes. This park is very close to the aquarium and the Hatfield Science Center.
This is one of the best campgrounds that we’ve camped in, especially at this price. The management was very cordial and accommodating, including roasting a turkey for a park potluck. We were in a back section where we were sheltered from the wind and fog that was present just a few hundred yards away. The bathrooms in this section were very modern with the best handicapped shower that I’ve found. The grounds are very well kept and the layout of the sites is very well done, with sewer drains at ground level rather than inches or feet above the ground. Excellent park that we hated to leave.
We really like this park in spite of the fact that a major train route is within a stone's throw from the camp. We have no problem with the noise of the many trains, but others might. There are a number of pretty run down permanents in the park, but this isn't a problem for us. Convenient access to town without being in town.
Great bargain. Wonderful location at the foot of Mt. Shasta. WiFi is a little weak, but this is a small complaint. Only major complaint is that rigs are kind of stacked where we were put. There are, however, open sites that would be much more comfortable. Very, very, nice managers.
Rustic, but we like it there. Having the hot springs makes up for a lot of semi-negatives such as no shade, no tables other than cable reels, and a few other things lacking. Campground is not kept up well, and we felt better about having our own facilites with us. However, we used the hot springs with enthusiasm, so maybe my comments on the lack of upkeep on bathrooms and such should be taken with a grain of salt.
Grounds are nice in new section. Lots of great shade trees. Sites are easy to get into in new section. Irrigation is screwed up with some sprinklers going all the time. In our case there was a sprinkler located under out trailer steps even though we were parked on the black top space. Managers messed with our fees and misled my wife into thinking she was getting a Good Sam discount when she wasn't. They straightened that out days later. Our dog had an emergency ear infection and we had to stay more days. Even though we were staying an additional 4 days, they wouldn't give us any credit for the 4 days we'd already stayed in order to get the weekly rate.
