I wish I could give this park more than a seven but I can't. Crosswinds is a great state park campground and we'd recommend it. But I guess the state's budget woes are starting to show. That was our only complaint for the entire July 4th weekend. The beach at the lake has eroded badly and in many sites, the trees need a big haircut. To back our 40' toy hauler in, several limbs had to scrape down the sides and roof more than what makes me comfortable. It just needs to be tidied up some to get back to at least a nine. The park rangers were great and the crowd stayed pretty well-mannered.
For a state park, it's certainly fine. Nice, quiet, heavily wooded sites and the park rangers are quite friendly. We've stayed here multiple times since it's so close to home. For Raleigh area residents, it's a nice, quiet getaway. The bathhouses are getting better but again, it's just a state park. Don't over expect. Unfortunately, Falls Lake has problems with water quality for swimming; especially during the early summer months.
Nice park for the scenery and quietness. It was a bit overpriced for what you get but you're still camping on Carowinds property. Staff was quite friendly. Bathhouse left you feeling dirty after you finished your shower. For a campground that advertises all the money they spent getting it up-to-date, they sure forgot to do something with the bathhouse. We'd camp here again but only to attend Carowinds.
This park is well deserving of it's high praises. Extremely clean and lots of space between sites. Their bathhouse is as nice as I've ever seen with private bathrooms. The pool is wonderful and the lake swimming was even better. They offer plenty of activities for the kids but if you'd rather just relax, there's plenty of room.
