OK I normally would not rate a completely gravel campground an eight but this one has nice features. The campground really is nothing but a large gravel lot. If you have a small trailer ask for a tent site! We stayed on a tent site. The tent sites are the only ones with grass. They have water/electric/privacy fence and a picnic table. They are also less expensive. The pool is very modern and clean. The showers and bathrooms are modern and clean as well. The staff is pleasant and helpful. The campground has a small store but nicely stocked. Our boys liked taking a swim in the pool as well as the free putt-putt golf. We definitely would stay here again!
We stayed here for one night on our way to Yellowstone. We had a nice back-in site on the river. The indoor pool and game room were nice, our boys loved it. The bathrooms were exceptional, very modern and very clean. Has a nice staff and a nice campground store. Within walking distance to town. We took a walk through town after dinner. I would definitely stay here again!
We stayed here for one night on our way out west. The staff was nice. The office is an old gas station. You then enter the campground by driving down a gravel road and over a one lane bridge. The campground has a pool (dirty), playground and nature trail. The bathrooms are average. Some shady lots. The campground has highway and train noise. OK for an overnight spot but not great.
We camped here for one night on our way out west. Our site was a back-in with a bean field/farm field behind us. The bean field was provided a nice view in the evening and the morning. The bathrooms were above average. This campground could use better maintenance, upkeep, updating and better grounds keeping. It has a pool but my boys took a look at it and decided not to swim, very unusual for my boys. The campground location is a few miles from the highway so it is quiet. With better upkeep and some improvements this campground could easily rate higher. The owners need to consider it!
Our favorite "one night spot" on the trip to Florida. We have camped here 3 different times. We use this campground as our stop over spot on our way to Florida. The owners are very nice! On two different visits they have invited us to a free potluck dinner in the office. The campground is a few miles from the highway which makes it quiet. The sites are gravel. We typically stay up front near the office, in a small grove of trees. My biggest complaint is the cold shower in the men's bathroom. On our last visit I actually took the shower valve apart to try and adjust the water temp. If we return again I will speak to the owners regarding the cold shower, hopefully they will fix it permanently.
If you camp here you must stay on a canal lot! We stayed on the canal near the beach. At the opening of the canal are 2 small beach areas. The canal lot had a tiki hut/dock. We could jump off the dock and swim in the canal right at our site. The water was very clean. The view of the mangroves was nice. The lot also had a paved/tiled patio area. If we were not on the canal I don't think we would have enjoyed this campground nearly as much. Pay the extra money and get a site with a view! Our family enjoyed the pool as well. The campground is gated and locked at night. A nice security feature. If we would ever return to Key Largo we would stay here again, but only on a canal lot near the beach.
Our campground rating system: 1-2: Campgrounds not acceptable, turn around and leave, do not stay!! 3-4: Facilities adequate but we would never stay again. 5-7: Facilities are nice, we would return again. 8-10: Resort style, vacation destination campgrounds. Campgrounds we love to visit. Location is the most redeeming feature of this campground. It is right on the beach. You are packed in tight!!!! We had the smallest unit in the campground and still felt packed in on our site. The spare tire of the motorhome behind us was literally touching our awning. The bathrooms are adequate but small. Nothing special. For the price you pay I think the bathroom facilities should be improved. We stayed 3 nights and I don't think the bathrooms were ever cleaned while we were at this campground. I give it a rating of 7 solely based on the waterfront location. Even with the waterfront view it is barely worth the high price.
