Associated with the Gold Panner Gift Shop and Fuel Station, they offer free dry camping with an RV fuel fill up. Wifi is free. There is an old gold dredge within walking distance and free gold panning in Chicken Creek which runs alongside the campground. Lot is gravel with plenty of room for big rigs to maneuver. A very friendly group of people running the business.

This is a very nice state park. The pull through sites are not extremely wide, but can be reserved. The other sites are typical Illinois sites with adequate width. The dump station is not very convenient as it requires you to leave the campsite area to get to the dump site, and when you are done you have to pull through the campsite areas even if you are leaving. The campsite area roads can be a little tight for larger rigs. If you plan on checking in on a Sunday afternoon, be aware that there is usually no host on duty until Monday. The lake is a quiet little lake but was fairly green with algae. There are paddle boats available for rental when the concession stand is open.

Although the sites were not level, we were able to level our 5er. There was plenty of shade and the free access to the swimming pool was a big plus. The staff there was new and not well trained but got through the check in process with some help from a ranger. The location close to Jamestown, Yorktown and colonial Williamsburg was very important to us, and we enjoyed the ferry crossing. The plantation and the museum had a special event (gas and steam engine show show) that we were not interested so we did not get to see them. The staff at the park and the museum were extremely friendly and capable. We enjoyed our stay and plan on returning some day.

This is not a sophisticated campground because the bulk of the sites are on rough gravel roads and there are not a lot of amenities. There are some pull through sites are on a paved lot. The sites are of various sizes but roomy site were plentiful during the winter. Proximity to the beach is excellent. Campground has a secure restroom and shower for sites with electric hookups. There is an open restroom on the beach for dry campers that was usually pretty nasty and another restroom and showerhouse on the beach that is clean but only open during the day. A local free trolley comes to the pier that is within walking distance and goes through Port Aransas every hour. There is public bus transportation to Corpus Christi for $1 round trip. This is a great campground for those who don't need all the TV, pools, activities, etc. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
