We stayed during the off season, so the campground was not full. By the end of the week, most of the waterfront sites were full however, which did show that these sites are tight and with no privacy. The sounds of the creek was a definite plus and helped with possible noise issues. The owners and staff were very friendly and helpful. The bathrooms were older, but clean. We would definitely stay here again. During peak season, we'd be tempted to go for the mountain view sites, in order to get more space.
We've always been big fans of the NC State Parks system, and we will continue to use them. It's unfortunate that budget cuts are really noticeable. The cleanliness of the bathhouses is the lowest I've ever seen at this park. I would have had to have been very desperate to use the showers. Some of the sites no longer have gravel covering them as weeds have taken over. That said, the sites are very generous in size and private. We had a great time, and we will camp here again.
There are quite a few pluses for this campground: the staff is extremely nice and helpful, family friendly and the kids love the amenities, and it's in a beautiful area of the blue ridge mountains. That said, there are some minuses: the power quality is low (my meter had swings from 120 - 96v), leveling at the sites can be hard, if not impossible, and the restrooms could/should have been cleaned more often. I don't know if we would stay here again. Perhaps if other options weren't available.
I'll get the negatives out the way. First, my reservation was screwed up. I had booked a patio site online, but found out that it was already in use by another party. I wasn't given an explanation as to why this happened. Second, the earlier reviews that complain about the bugs are not an exaggeration. Terribly annoying gnats that can make it difficult to eat outside or sit by the fire. One of the pools was out of service - problem with the water quality - which made the one remaining pool very crowded. All that said, this is a very nice KOA. The pull-through site that we were given was very spacious, level, and had well placed hookups. The pool that was open was clean and the kids had a blast. One last thing to note is that they won't be affiliated with KOA much longer (according to one of the workers). They are in the midst of a name change to Fayetteville RV Resort and Campground.
We were very pleased with Zooland. We stayed in the lower sites (back-in sites) which were more spacious than the pull-through section in the upper level. The restrooms and showers were clean. Pool was clean as well and the playgrounds for the kids were thoroughly enjoyed. We would definitely stay here again.
This was an overnight stop. We arrived late and if we hadn't, we probably would've tried to find something else. This campground looks as though it's been neglected for years. There are some seasonals and it looked as though they gave up on keeping their site and rig looking half-way respectable. We wouldn't stay here again.
This is a campground/state park operated by the New York DEC. There are no RV hookups, but there is a dump station near the exit of the park. It is a large park and actually surrounds Fourth Lake. There are two beaches (one has a life guard). While there are no water hookups, there are water spigots placed throughout the park. Restrooms and showers were kept clean. I would not recommend this place for big rigs. There are some tight squeezes and backing into some sites would be a challenge for the most experienced of RV'ers. But the sites are spacious and fairly private. We would stay here again.
We did an overnight there and will probably come back for an extended visit in the future. At a minimum, we have found our overnight stop for our trips along I-95. I would've given a 10, but didn't because of no water hookups at the electric sites. That said, this was a very nice park. The sites are large and shade is just about right (some sun/some shade). The restrooms and showers are cleaned daily (according to signage) and it showed.
Nightly rate include Good Sam discount. It was an overall good experience here. We stayed mid-week, so it wasn't a full campground, but definitely not empty. There are a lot of seasonal campers here and always golf cart traffic, but people seemed friendly. The office folks were nice and helpful. We didn't use the small pool since it was heated and it was already mid-90's, so we opted for the larger unheated pool, which was clean. The laundry was fully functional and clean as well. Don't know about bathrooms and showers (we didn't use them). The lower sites are grassy and since it's been so wet up there, the ground was soft in spots. We would camp here again.
It's not a bad park to stay at, but there are better options (in our opinion) in the area. The sites are close to each other and privacy isn't abundant. Some of the pull-throughs have trees that could cause some issues when pulling out of the spot. The road to the campground is certainly manageable if you take your time. Firewood is available for sale, but if you can find it elsewhere, go with that option. We bought three bundles and found each bundle was made up with rotted wood that had since dried, but didn't burn well. Considering the smoke around the grounds, I think most firewood bundles had this problem. Quiet hours state they start at 10pm, but don't expect that to be adhered to. Plus, enforcement of quiet hours isn't a priority of the staff. That said, they do focus on family friendly activities, and the pool was very clean. We would stay here again, if other options were not available, and during off-peak times.
We arrived somewhat late (within an hour of the office closing) and the staff was very friendly and they even encouraged us to look around to see if we liked something better than what we had reserved. We did actually find a different site and they were very accommodating in changing our reservation. There is a good mixture of sites - some right next to each other and some with good privacy and distinct borders. The bathrooms did show they got a lot of use, they were cleaned daily. We are already planning a return trip.
