We enjoyed our stay at Oxbow. Our site was clean and ready for our arrival. While skinny, we made the site work and enjoyed it. Since we were camping in October, it wasn't that busy except for a few seasonal.. My boys enjoyed the ponds and the paddle boats; although, we didn't fish. For the price, the Oxbow campground is a real bargain. Even the wood was decently priced; $15 for about 35 - 40 pieces of wood. We look forward to our next camping trip at the Oxbow.
This campground really didn't meet our expectations. While the campground was clean and friendly, we were hoping for a site that was peaceful and wooded with some sort of privacy. What we ended up with is a full hook up site that had neighbors very close on each side and a constant, frustrating road noise. Honestly, you would have no idea you were in the White Mountains by staying at this KOA. What this KOA has going for it is the fact that there are many things to visit and do within 30 minutes of the campground.
First time visitors and we were pleasantly surprised. The site we had was spacious, clean and wooded. Yeah, the road coming in is not the greatest, but it's not to bad if you go slow. The beach is nice and as the campground is so big, we had plenty of places to ride around. They also have a significantly stocked store with decent pricing. They make a decent effort with the kids activities. The fire engine ride and magician were the kids favorites. We plan to camp here again.
What this campground has going for it is that's it's about 10 minutes from Old Orchard Beach. And that's really the only reason to stay here. The sites are un-level, packed close together, and a bit run down. We didn't swim at the pool, but it looked well kept. Everyone was friendly and it was fairly quiet.
Like other reviewers have stated, this campground is a bit rustic. However, we found the owners friendly and accommodating. If you have kids, they have a small beach next to a creek that is perfect cooling off. We found our site clean, recently raked, and ready for our arrival. We will stay there again.
