Big park, lots of seasonal campers. Wi-Fi didn't work well. This is an older park. We stayed for a week because we were visiting friends who keep their camper here. People were friendly. The services are good. We had a problem with our water pump and it need to be replaced. They did this on site. There was a restaurant on site and the food is noted to be very good, we only had the ice cream, which was very good! Our friends love this place (they keep their camper here year round), but the campground is only open from May to Oct.
What a surprise! We were right on the Mississippi river and had a bench facing the river where we could sit and watch the river traffic. Sunset and sunrise were beautiful! Relaxing and serene. This was a one night lay over, but wouldn't mind spending a little more time, just relaxing. We could never get the Wi-Fi to work...don't know if it was the park's problem or ours.
This is not a good place for a big RV. Our 37'fifth wheel was difficult to squeeze into. wouldn't want to do this again in our rig. Not easy access for any big rig. We were here for a family reunion. Would stay in a cabin next time! The biggest frustration was the lack of signs telling you where to register. Drove through the entire state park and had to find a place to turn around (not an easy feat in a F350 pulling a 37' 5th wheel). Bathrooms were clean, staff very friendly. We had Wi-Fi (were beside the grocery store, so were on theirs), rarely had cell service. The "moonbow" was a sight to behold.
Nice park. $37 rate was with our KOA card. There was a very steep hill to get into the park. We had a bicycle rack on the back of our 5th wheel: it dragged getting into the park and going out of the park.
At first glance, this park looks small and older, but we discovered that it is well maintained. The bathrooms were immaculate! Friendly owners, were awesome: gave us good information for great touring sites, a great dinning sites, and even let our dogs out to use the bathroom. We stayed for two weeks. The rate we got was for two weeks with a senior discount.
Very easy access to Savannah, and to your site from entrance. The main campsite area consists of a large field with campsites on 2 sides. There is a cute, clean little restroom close to those sites (made to look like an outhouse, but is a real bathroom). Other facilities are very far away. You have to walk down a dirt road to the Pool (which was closed), shower house, bathroom and laundry, all of which were clean (we did not use, as we have all that). We just went looking for this, as no one tells you anything! This is a pretty setting...walk down another back road leads to gorgeous home on Lake, with another pretty home site before you reach the main one. It could be very nice RV park, but very confusing when you arrive, as there is no office and no information given out as to where everything is located. Someone just came out of the little store located just inside the gate, called via cell phone, then a few minutes later a young man arrived and led us to our site. There were 2 dumpsters at the opposite end of the field where we were parked. We noted that there were a few shaded sites in a remote area beyond the field where several motorhomes were parked. This was a very expensive park, and not well run. It has potential for being a very nice park, but needs someone with vision to make that happen.
Not impressed, especially for the money. Very crowded! Dirt road needs to be leveled, road to our pull through site very narrow with bushes scraping the side of our truck and camper. I usually go check out the facilities, but didn't do that this time. Don't think we'll stay here again, unless nothing else is available.
Beautiful park with great paved roads (don't care for the speed bumps) and long, gravel pull through sites (spacious enough for our 37' 5th wheel and F350 truck, then another car on backside when our friends visited us). There was grass next to site so we could play bacci ball. Trees and well manicured park make this a pretty park. We got good satellite reception and there were no problems with the Wi-Fi. The bathrooms and showers were clean. Pet friendly. We would camp here again.
Friendly and helpful owner. Spacious, gravel sites. Clean restrooms. Large pond where you can fish, if you want. Nice shady area in back where you can walk your dogs. Most sites do not have shade trees. This was not a destination park, but we stayed there on our way to and from trip to Savannah and Charleston last spring. It's convenient to I-10. Close to restaurants, grocery, gas, etc. We would stay there again.
We paid by the month, so was cheaper. This is a small, very clean campground. Though campsites are close, you have plenty of room between rigs. Gravel sites and driveway with picnic tables and grass area (Floyd keeps grass mowed. Friendly neighbors, nice, clean shower/bathroom area with hand-washing soap and lotion provided. Laundry room looks clean (did not use). Owners are very helpful and friendly. Campfire at night and free coffee every morning. Convenient to Alpine Loop, Slumgullion Pass, Deer Lakes, Lake San Cristobal, many hiking trails, day trips to Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park (beautiful), Slumgullion and Deer Lakes area, Telluride & Ouray, Crested Butte, etc. ATV or Jeep (rentals available in town)access to amazing views on the Alpine Loop! 2 blocks from Post Office & Visitor's Center (lots of good information and handouts. A few blocks to town where there are many stores/gift shops, restaurants, churches, museums, etc. So much to do and see! We will return someday and will stay at Elkhorn again when we do.
Beautiful campground! Cleanest showers/bathrooms I've ever seen, with plenty of room for your things in the shower area. Nice pool area (was closed for the season), but the hot tub was open and very nice. Large laundry room available. The people were friendly. This campground was just outside the entrance to Mesa Verde National Park (absolutely beautiful scenery). We were 30 minutes away from Durango and drove there one day for the Durango to Silverton train trip which was a great time and the scenery was beautiful on that trip, as well!
