We love Army Corps of Engineer campgrounds. They are always near water, always scenic, and always quiet. We can live comfortably for a week with no hookups so we are very content in this type of setting. Acorn COE is very picturesque and just about any site will have a nice view. The area is abundant with wildlife. We had deer come through our campsite and saw turkeys numerous times. The nightly rate is $16 but with the Golden Age National Park Passport it is 50% off, so cost us $8 a night. We camped here with another couple and we had adjoining sites. We enjoyed many a campfire in our 5 day stay here.
We always stay here when we come to Vegas. Yes, it is basically a big parking lot but it meets our needs very well. Walking distance to many casinos, FHU, and extremely reasonable rate. The city noise is prevalent but we stay about 6 weeks when we come and eventually it becomes "white noise". Security is very prevalent and we will see them 6-7 times a day on drive-through. Our only recommendation is that there would be a security gate to the campground...sometimes we do see vehicles drive in the campground who are promoting their RV repair work or other vehicles that do not belong in the campground.
