I really enjoyed this campground. The store and the pool were very nice. The management I came in contact with were wonderful and helpful. I think the best sites are the "rustic" tent sites behind the bathhouse near the rear of the park. During the week, it was quiet, shady and just lovely! The weekend got busier, but the security guard was around every 15 minutes to make sure the quiet hours were not violated. With Starved Rock and the new Grand Bear Resort so close by, I will camp here again and again.
This park is quiet and relaxing, but parts of it are run down. The mini golf is overtaken by weeds and not used anymore. There is an old water slide that looks like it was once fun, but is broken down and not it use. The pools were older, but clean and perfectly usable. The indoor bathrooms behind the office were lovely, and the outdoor ones were usable, but not always working properly. I thought $40 was a bit much to stake my tent, but there was nothing glaringly wrong at this place.
This campground is very well run and our kids just loved their very first real camping experience here. There were many activities for the kids, the pool was very clean and all the facilities were well maintained. Only complaint would be road noise that bothered my husband, but it didn't make that much difference. Owners were so friendly and out to make sure we were happy and comfortable, even though we were only there with our little tent for the weekend. Would definitely stay here again.
